Kes, we asked at the 20 week scan and they were happy to have a look for us - ask when you are back for the heart check! Also, diabetes isn't too much of an issue, I promise. Its my 2nd GD pregnancy and though I managed first one on diet alone, this time I am medicated too. If it comes back ok, I promise you will be fine - I can do it as a HG suffering vegan, so you can too ;)

Had 20 week scan, its a BOY! Pleased, and DD is OK with that too. Phew! I am really excited though it has confirmed my thoughts that I was deep down hoping for another girl, but oh well ;-) DH not really bothered either way, so just arguing over middle names now.

Moved onto slow release metaformin, as regular metaformin was causing me issues as above (blergh). No issues so far, but only one dose into the extended release version.

I am not doing cloth nappies. I can't keep on top of regular clothes washing so I have NO HOPE of doing nappies/wipes. I am hoping to get some reusable cloth breast pads though.

I'm 20 weeks today, HALFWAY (Though, I know now Im on metaformin I will be induced around 38 weeks, so over halfway!)

toomanyflatwhites · 11/01/2019 10:08

Exciting that everyone is starting to find out what they're having! Our 20 week scan is in just under 2 weeks but we already found out via the harmony test at 12 weeks, just keeping it under wraps (for now at least!).

I can't believe it though, having had a cold that dragged on for 3 weeks+, I had about 3 days feeling better and then started with a sore throat yesterday and now feeling rubbish! Had my flu jab booked for this morning and a last minute plan for this afternoon to go on the train with DD to meet DP in my hometown (as he had to drive down this morning for something) so have decided to call in sick today. Am exhausted and just need a bit of a rest to be honest!

Am also thinking about switching to reusable wipes (not nappies though...I just can't....) so will check out the cheeky wipes offer, thanks for the tip!

Heebyjeeby99 · 11/01/2019 10:36

Hi all, I actually started to get a bit of a bump the last couple of days. Only tiny, but something. Then this morning I woke up and it's completely flat again. Really upset and ended up googling '18 week bumps' and it made me cry! Still no movement either and just feeling very paranoid that something isn't right. I actually had a huge argument with DH last night too....he's not well (man flu...) so I looked after my 2 step-daughters along with working 8 hours yesterday - school runs, dinners, homework, bathtime, bedtime etc etc. He criticised me for something with the girls towards the end of the night and I just lost it. Felt my heart beating so fast and had to do breathing exercises to calm down. So worried I've hurt the baby....

rollerskaterdata · 11/01/2019 11:22

I'm another one who will be cloth wiping and diapering this time round, I'm a complete newbie and soooo excited by it! I've already decided on cheeky wipes but will be trying a few different brands of nappies before buying a bunch. Will be trying the Miosolo Aldi ones, GroVia, Little Lamb and the cheapies on Amazon called Littles & Bloomz. Anyone used any of these brands and know if they're any good or not?

Glad the 20 week scans went well and @Kescilly don't worry too much, I get faint / dizzy whenever I'm hot or dehydrated or stood up for too long, totally normal. Plus my 20 week scan took 45 mins as baby was in an awkward position and I nearly had to go back for further measurements. We got confirmation baby is a girl which we are thrilled about, my DS who is 4 less so as he initially said he wants a little brother! He's coming round to the idea now though 😊

Blondcat · 11/01/2019 12:52

Just popped out to Aldi and managed to get some of the miosolo nappies in their baby event for £8.99 each they had 4 designs and quite a few in my store.

Kescilly · 11/01/2019 13:16

Thanks for the reassurances everyone. I didn’t have another episode today when I showered, just the normal amount of lightheadedness. I’m going to be careful and take colder showers just in case though.

@SassehMonsta thanks for the post about GD. It’s hard not to feel like a failure because of the way some people I know talk about it. I knew that I had several risk factors going in and would have to do the test. And that there was a good chance I’d get it. I’ve been trying to watch my weight and have done a fairly good job, but I guess I can’t control this.

Still, not diagnosed yet. Kind of annoyed about the timing of the test as my mom is visiting from abroad for a few days and I might end up sitting in the hospital instead of being able to see her off.

How’s everyone feeling today? Naps, I hope you are hanging in there. Wish we could give you some company while you’re going through this.

lstef · 11/01/2019 13:24

Went to Aldi last night and felt weird buying stuff! Just bought some vests and bibs, my mum was very clear that I shouldn't buy too much leaving nothing left for gifts!

I'm going to try reusable wipes for at home (twins gonna need 20 nappies a day or so between them yikes) and disposable nappies, at least at first. Right now I can't face all the different reusable nappy options as we have so many other decisions to make re: car seats, buggies, and how the hell to transport two babies at once out of our flat up the awkward steps. Disposable wipes while out. It might save a few pennies. Since I read that terry towelling is best for cleaning up poo I have made my own wipes by cutting up an old towel into squares and running them thru my sewing machine - will do something different for face/hands etc like crochet cotton facecloths - stripy or something so we can tell the difference. I got 18 wipes out of one towel, so bought another from charity shop for 50p to get another 18. I am going to make my own nappy rash cream as I have most of the ingredients already.

Basically researching any which way to save money by making stuff!

Had my consultant appt this morning, she was lovely, and then scan on Weds followed by more scans every 4 weeks.

Waves to everyone else.. exciting to be getting to next scans and halfway points!

coastergirl · 11/01/2019 16:32

I really do not know where this baby is hiding! According to the apps, he is the size of an orange now, and my uterus is the size of a melon. I look no different! Just my usual fat haha. If I push I can feel that it's hard underneath the wodge of fat, but that's it. I was in maternity clothes way earlier last time.

I've got my GTT on Monday. Dreading it because although I had GD last time, I was diagnosed really late in the pregnancy, so didn't have to deal with it for long. I don't want to give up my mini eggs!

Heyha · 11/01/2019 16:36

Well I've just had my 16 week appointment (at 17 weeks but hey ho) and I was totally NOT expecting to hear the heartbeat but she offered to have a go and got it really clearly. And lots of swooshing noises as baby tried to move away from the pressure 😂 celebrated by popping to Aldi and was surprised how much stock they had left and what a good range as well!

CrazyCowLady · 11/01/2019 18:20

Serious question: For those of you who shave bikini lines (and surrounding areas!) how are you doing it?! I cant quite see anything and have had to do it with lots of huffing and puffing and breathing in and lifting my tummy and mostly by feel! Was doing it standing, but there must be an easier way?! It wasn't very dignified!!

@Heebyjeeby99 everyone is different with bumps and showing. I heard a convo in the vets last year between receptionists who were commenting on one of the vets who had just 'popped' at 27 weeks. Everyone has different body shapes and types. The last few days, the baby could have been laying in a particularly pokey-out way, and has now shifted again? Or maybe pregnancy bloating, if you have that (I def do!!) Have you called your midwife for a chat and maybe some reassurance? I'm sure everything will be fine, but you can always ask for a check-up if you are really worried. Your heart beat wont affect the baby unless its really prolonged and for some reason like infection. If its for a few minutes, it will be fine. Later on, the baby might move more responding to the increased sound (if you exercise, or orgasm for example) but thats it xx

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 11/01/2019 18:32

@crazycowlady

I basically just do the “immac reacharound” Confused and try and feel for stragglers before running the razor IN THE DIRECTION THE HAIRS ARE GROWING

I don’t do the full monty BTW but my chuff spreads out massively when I’m pg so I’m sorting the M25 and Home Counties whilst leaving London tidy IYSWIM

rollerskaterdata · 11/01/2019 18:54

@CrazyCowLady my DH does it for me now I can't reach anymore 🙈

hexagon01 · 11/01/2019 18:57

Ha ha PaulHollywood I relate re the spread a bit too much 😭 I give up caring mostly tbh, I can’t be bothered!

If anyone’s interested one of my favourite comedians Josie Long has a new podcast coming out called ‘Josie & Jonny are having a baby (with you)’ and it was recorded while she was pregnant and is generally about having a baby and stuff, but funny? Probably? I’m looking forward to listening to it anyway.

Pigriver · 11/01/2019 20:38

@crazycowlady, much to my husbands distaste I just run his beard trimmer in the general vicinity 😂

Can’t remember who asked about nappies, we used tots bots peenut and easyfit star from about a year until potty training at 2.5 along with miosolo. Little lamb/tots bots bamboo and wrap are also good but bulky and we only had them in size 1. I experimented with lots, mainly pockets or wraps with boosters, I’ve also got prefolds and wraps for th3 newborn stage. When I get added to the fb group I’ll do a post with pics if anyone is interested.

Who is sorting out the fb group? Please could I be added?

MadeInCornwallx3 · 11/01/2019 21:30

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut That description made me howl 😂

Problem is this issue is only going to get worse. I fear for us haha.

CrazyCowLady · 11/01/2019 21:53

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut Ahahahahaah!! I hadnt realised but mine has started going WILD recently. I actually stopped shaving everything for about 6 months (like total cavelady style) but have realised recently its all got a bit longer than I was happy with. Like 6cm long, rather than 3!!

@MadeInCornwallx3 I think it is... I am going to take advice from @Pigriver and @rollerskaterdata. What do you recon DH's reaction would be if I asked him to do it with his own trimmers?!

Pigriver · 11/01/2019 23:10

@crazycowlady
For a long time I just didn't tell him....
My SIL got her best mate round to shave her bush before she went into hospital 😳 apparently she offered as she was mortified she'd had to give birth with a mega bush the year before 😂

TakingtheLeap · 12/01/2019 03:53

Hello! The M25 analogy made me laugh. Grin I haven't shaved anything south of, er, the Trent for weeks but I'm hoping to go swimming more soon so really should get on that whilst bump is still small enough to reach round.

17 weeks and definitely showing, though I did have an odd stage last week where it all suddenly went "down". I'm very short though and lost about 10kg before getting pregnant (halfway back on now Blush) so there's nowhere for it to hide. I'm sure you'll get your bump soon coastergirl!

I also have a feeling that being obviously pregnant will get old very soon. Not only have I had a few unsolicited bump pats but I've also noticed that people are more inclined to enter my personal space in other ways - e.g. shop assistants rubbing my arms etc!

That said, I have been silently enjoying the "eye flicker" that my colleagues have been doing, as this past week is the first time they've seen me since before Christmas. It's so funny because I know myself how hard it is to avoid looking at a pregnant lady's bump and it feels very surreal to be the person being 'bump checked'! Even my very discreet colleagues who would never say "cripes you're huge" end up saying it with their eyes. Grin

By the way I'd quite like to join the Facebook group for this thread - how do I do that?

Torsz · 12/01/2019 07:52

I've been ok shaving so far although my view is somewhat blocked 😂 I think when I can't see anymore I'll just go down to using my trimmer as it has a guard - may have to stand in front of a mirror!
I might be the only person who actually likes bump pats!! I think it's partly because it's taken us so long to get here and I always stared enviously at peoples' bumps so I love that it's finally me - but it's obviously not just that as I'm sure there are plenty of others in this position who still don't like it!

Fabuluce · 12/01/2019 07:56

I wax or rather I leave it to someone else to do the job for me! That said, I haven't had it done for ages and really need to sort out the hairy beast. I can still trim thankfully but when the time comes DH will trim the remaining fluff to keep me neat and tidy!

I went to an event yesterday and hardly anyone noticed I was pregnant! I felt a bit disappointed but apparently it's a neat bump which is definitely an improvement on last time when I just looked huge the whole time.

@Napssavelives how are you doing lovely? I can't begin to imagine what you are going through and can't quite believe that your partner could think it was ok to TTC while feeling so unhappy and wanting to leave - it's such a callous, mean thing to do. IMHO I think he should be out of the house while he goes through his thinking process so he can actually realise what he'll be missing and that life isn't actually that much better being on the other side after all. Sending hugs. Xx

Changingagain · 12/01/2019 08:43

I tackled the bush for the first time in months last week as Ds was desperate to go swimming. It was a very slow process lol, I definitely spent longer in the shower before leaving than we spent actually at the pool. I decided to do the lot thinking it means I get longer before having to bother with it again. I've regretted it all week with the itching.

Has anyone got a very tender bump? I don't remember the actual bump hurting at all last time. It feels generally a bit bruised a lot of the time and when I get up in the night or first thing in the morning I get cramps on it. They feel like period cramps but on the front of the bump and quite high rather than low down and 'inside' if that makes sense.

rollerskaterdata · 12/01/2019 08:44

@Pigriver it was me who asked scout cloth nappies, thank you for the advice! Also that's hilarious, I love my BFF but she will never get near my bush!

@CrazyCowLady 😂 my DH looked horrified when I asked to use his trimmers so I had to go out and get my own! He also hesitated initially when I asked him to trim my front and back but I shamelessly used lines from my pregnant lady excuse book and he conceded 🤣

@TakingtheLeap I had the EXACT same thing when I went back to work after Christmas! I work in a team of all men and am the only woman so they're actually very cautious and don't speak about my bump/pregnancy at all unless I bring it up, but I noticed the attempted sly looks at my bump when I first went in the office! It really is a weird thing being measured up for size, I don't remember being so self conscious with my first!

rollerskaterdata · 12/01/2019 08:45

@Pigriver that should read asked ABOUT cloth nappies 🤦‍♀️

TakingtheLeap · 12/01/2019 08:56

Your pregnant lady excuse book!! Grin I should really use that book more. I merrily wave it around when telling DH the litter tray needs to be cleaned AGAIN.

Would appreciate people's thoughts on adjustments at work. I work in an office environment, on the third floor (stairs only, old building). Offices scattered throughout building though.

The health and safety team are doing an assessment soon and I'm wondering what would be reasonable to request / raise. I'm having pain in my sacroiliac joint which is helped by varying standing and sitting so I'm wondering about asking if it would be possible to make my desk a sometimes-standing desk.

My boss has also asked if I'd like to move from the top floor and I'm really conflicted. I really like my current room and I'm also conscious that moving would mean making a colleague move too. I'm in the kind of profession where your office is your castle (once you're in your usually in for good!) so it's not like we're all used to hot desking. I also feel okaaay climbing the stairs at the moment and stupidly feel wimpy about asking not to have to climb them. But on the other hand I can see them becoming a pain in the third trimester....

Reastie · 12/01/2019 10:24

Taking can you say you will keep current office but if stairs become an issue later on you may need to swap desks. Hopefully it might not be an issue but you’ll know the oppertubity is there if needed. I’m glad your work are taking the risk assessment for pg seriously.

Had a good old sob most of yesterday evening after feeling pants all day. Feel like I’ll never manage to do anything whilst pg. I so just want to be able to do a gentle workout/take dd to school/actually get out into the big wide world if only for a short time but every time I try I feel so so nauseous as the exertion sets it straight back to the beginning.why can most women cope and I can’t.

Nap how are you?
