@Bigonesmallone3 antenatal depression is a thing and it can be just as severe as postnatal (or indeed any other depression). I had it severely with my son. I was convinced it wouldn't happen again because I know how amazing it is once baby is born, but it has come back. Luckily I have an awesome GP and was really honest with her about how bad last time was and she referred me to great people. We've been really on top of meds etc and it's definitely better for it. I honestly thought last time that I didn't want my little boy, but it was just the depression talking. I couldn't adore him more.

I'm another one with a gender preference. I don't think there's anything wrong with having a preference, it's not as if anyone is saying they'd trade health for the "right" sex. I was desperate for a boy last time, and got one. This time I still wanted another boy but wasn't quite as bothered, but I'm still so pleased to be having another boy.

No bump here! I'm overweight to start with, but was more so last time and I'm sure I was showing earlier than this. Not sure where this baby is hiding. 15+5 and my symptoms are sore boobs and awful exhaustion. It's driving me crazy!

excitedmama · 07/01/2019 20:06

@Bigonesmallone3 I'm totally feeling the same, just miserable and easily irritated.. I'm very low in iron and taking iron tablets/sachets to try and stay awake but finding it really hard to become motivated on my days off... I feel you! Xx

Bigonesmallone3 · 07/01/2019 20:07

I see my midwife next week, i will raise it with her.. I can't bare the way I feel at the moment and I can't justify it 😭
I have a lovely life

toomanyflatwhites · 07/01/2019 20:20

Thanks @PaulHollywoodsSexGut - I might ask to switch to one of the alternative clinics to avoid this lady (though maybe she was just having a bad day???). But literally not one question about how I was doing, or asking me if I had any queries or concerns - it was just al business. Maybe I'm being a baby and it hardly matters as I get so few appointments (and won't see these midwives in labour I don't think). Also am SO glad the king of the Midwives has made you smile, this is awesome!

And to those feeling Meh - yep me too, I wouldn't go as far to say mine is depression (though think I had that in 1at trimester with DD) but life is just super stressful and totally joyless at the moment. DP and I are both mega stressed about stuff relating to the flat we live in (his flat), the flat I own and rent out, work stuff, how the HELL we are ever going to manage to rearrange our postponed wedding (which we were doing at short notice this month, but now need to do in his home country instead), where we are going to live, DD and her continuing inability to go to sleep at a reasonable hour/sleep without me/sleep through - and more. I suppose, rationally, I can see why I'm feeling overwhelmed when I write it down like this! Having been awake since 1.30am I have made DP but DD to bed (once in a blue moon event) and I'm already in bed keeping everything crossed for a decent sleep tonight.

I’m 19 weeks tomorrow and have been feeling some stabbing pain every so often today in my sides in my ovary area. Do you think this is round ligament stretching pains or something else? Has anyone else had this? I’ve had pains in my sides sometimes when I sneeze or move quickly previously, but this pain is coming when I’m just sat still. I also had a bit of pain behind my tummy button earlier which was strange!

socktastic · 07/01/2019 21:04

I'm another one with a preference although it's already determined. I'd prefer another boy, purely and simply because I've got all boys stuff already. All those cute little outfits need to be worn again.
However Ds is convinced he's getting a baby sister and will not shift his position. Also, this is a very different pregnancy to last one - last was was easy by comparison so beginning to think it may be a girl this time round.

OP posts:
Torsz · 07/01/2019 21:04

@stellarfox I've had some really strong stabbing pains when I get up/move quickly, cough or sneeze - pretty sure it's round ligaments ☺️ I'm actually relieved if I sneeze without pain!!

CrazyCowLady · 07/01/2019 21:23

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut woooooooooo! I actually cried reading this...(bloody hormones). Well done and so happy you actually got listened to. Thats one of the best things about SOM's- they know who the 'good' consultants are and can sort shit out almost straight away!

@Bigonesmallone3 - Yep, antenatal depression is a real thing. Check with your midwife if there are any referrals to talking therapies for pregnant ladies, or you could also see your GP. Cant remember the deal with antidepressants in preg, or if there are any suitable ones, but hopefully you can get the ball rolling with some sort of treatment. Hope you start to feel better soon.

@stellarfox sounds like ligament pains. Mine have pretty much gone now, but quite scary still when they happen. And sneezing is HORRIBLE!! Remember that everything is shifting and stretching and moving to a new place to accommodate a growing baby and uterus, so things are bound to feel a little odd at times. As long as the pain doesn't last long, isn't really painful (like takes your breath away/ crying/cant move/think kind of pain) and no vaginal bleeding, usually its pretty normal. I'd probably say the same about the belly button pain, unless it was a big kick?!

@Heyha I'd say they are sized wrong!! If you are usually a 10, and theres loads of room in the tummy, why don't they fit your legs? Are they pregnancy ones? They sound like some one has made them wrong!

rollerskaterdata · 07/01/2019 21:33

@Bigonesmallone3 I'm literally talking to my GP about this exact same thing tomorrow morning. I think I might have either antenatal depression or extreme anxiety, either way it sucks. I'm really struggling atm and you are definitely not alone. My fears are overwhelming sometimes and I hope I get the help I need. I had PND with DS although I was in denial about it and suffered in silence. This time round I'm determined to speak out whenever I feel down, I regret not doing so last time.

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut oh I see, I didn't have mine checked at 34w last time with DS, probably trust/hospital specific. I may ask the sonographer to check anyway, worst they can say is no

LauralovesLuke · 07/01/2019 21:35

Re: heartbeat - my friend (who gave birth in Suffolk so may not be the same in all NHS trusts) said that you specifically have to ask to hear the heartbeat at your midwife appointment - apparently this is the policy for Suffolk (I have a feeling that Suffolk and Norfolk are one NHS trust if that helps anyone?!)

Antenatal depression is very real. Please, please keep talking about how you feel to people you trust and not let it build up. The NCT website has some useful information, as does the charity Mind. It's an incredibly difficult time, compounded by the fact that other people (and society) make out like pregnancy is meant to be the best thing ever. For some people it is, but that is not the case for everyone and there are a lot of things to potentially worry about. FlowersFlowersFlowers

Kimbishop86 · 07/01/2019 23:25

@rollerskaterdata I’m not sure if it’s a routine thing to look at cervical length. I had mine measured at the 12 week scan due to abnormal cells on a smear a few years back and having to have them burnt off and the people doing the scan acted like it was an additional thing they were measuring because of that so I don’t know if they will do it at your 20 week unless there is a reason. But I could be wrong!

Fiona1619 · 07/01/2019 23:38

Hi I don’t know how to add to this but I’m due baby number 2 June 4th 2019 :)

Fiona1619 · 07/01/2019 23:41

Baby number 2 due June 4th 2019

KoalasAteMyHomework · 08/01/2019 08:25

@stellarfox so glad you mentioned pains as I have been getting that too and was starting to worry. As this is my second I thought it would be easier but seem to be stretching more! Sneezing is awful!!

annihall · 08/01/2019 08:45

I've got some very sharp pains as well when moving to quickly or sneezing. Also some pressure pain just sitting down, but keep telling myself that's normal and it's just the baby growing and everything stretching

stellarfox · 08/01/2019 09:53

Thanks all for the reassurance! I don’t seem to be getting the painful twinges today except when moving too fast or sneezing so that’s better than yesterday!

Spargle · 08/01/2019 13:07

Thanks for everyone who replied about my GD fears! I saw my midwife this morning and she thinks I picked up a virus that was making me feel dehydrated as well as other symptoms as my wee was clear and I think she’s right as the water situation has calmed down a lot. The good old underwhelming 16 week appointment (no listening to the heartbeat here either), only 3 weeks til my scan then another 8 weeks before my next appointment! Luckily as it’s not my first I’m (mostly) pretty laid back about the lack of appointments as I know I can contact them if I have any issues. She said she’d happily see me at 25 weeks if I felt I need to so that’s also reassuring :)

toomanyflatwhites · 08/01/2019 14:08

@hexagon01 phew! That sounds pretty reassuring!
I didn't remember the 16 week appointment being QUITE so underwhelming (had mine yesterday) but it really was!!! I'm just looking at it as I'm glad I've done this before as first time round I (by luck) saw the same midwife every appointment who was very nice, whereas this time I have seen a different woman each time and it doesn't seem like they have been sent in the customer service course yet Wink

MadeInCornwallx3 · 08/01/2019 14:21

I'm in my third pregnancy and have been given a 25 week appointment. I don't know if I should be worried about this?

I def did I with my second pregnancy. Very strange! Maybe my midwife is just keen? Hmm

stellarfox · 08/01/2019 16:35

@MadeInCornwallx3 Could be different for me as this is my first pregnancy but I’ve got a 25 week midwife appointment. Maybe double check with them if you need it? I think it there was anything they were concerned about they would give you a call so it’s more likely an error appointment

MadeInCornwallx3 · 08/01/2019 16:39

@stellarfox You definitely have one in your first pregnancy but aren't meant to subsequently I believe.

I need to collect my MatB1 form that week so I'm going to keep it and just double check with her then. Nothing odd has come up so far so I'm sure it's just an error. Not complaining though!

How is everyone else on the movement front? Mine appear to have started bang on 18 weeks - keep letting little twitches now that I know aren't gas!

Torsz · 08/01/2019 17:06

@MadeInCornwallx3 I've mostly been working from home so today was my first day back in the office since starting to feel baby last Thursday...and she was going crazy every time I was in a meeting 😂 I was trying not to react but she was so distracting!!

stellarfox · 08/01/2019 17:14

@MadeInCornwallx3 I’ve been getting the odd small movement over the last week but only yesterday I’ve determined it isn’t gas as it’s too frequent! 😄 I’m 19 weeks today exactly

lstef · 08/01/2019 17:18

MadeinCornwall - I am definitely feeling movements now, at 17+2, have been since Saturday, at first it was like is that babies and now I'm certain, it feels different to gas and one set of twitches was in the exact same place for a few seconds. Eeee. Holding out for scan next Wednesday as want to know theyre both ok in there.

Body wise, I don't have body confidence issues shape wise, used to have terrible hormonal acne which has improved massively which is a nice pg bonus! However I am hiding in big baggy jumpers still - I generally prefer looser fitting clothes anyway and don't like drawing attention to myself, so I doubt I will be wearing skin tight anything until spring when I won't be able to avoid bump being obvious.
