Ooh @LivingOnAPear I'm 18 weeks tomorrow too! Are you 7th June due date?

Yay a due date buddy I didn't think I had one Smile

Fabuluce · 03/01/2019 12:25

17+4 today and had my 16w midwife appt. all ok although my blood pressure is a little on the low side at 90/50. Got to hear the heartbeat too and she measured it at around 140. I'm back at the surgery now though as I have a mystery rash on my hands and knees! (No it's nothing to do with carpets!). I too am absolutely shattered. I woke up sooo many times last night and according to my Fitbit I got precisely zero deep sleep. No wonder my brain is fried!

I found the early day's very tough following a challenging birth and a baby who would feed for an hour and sleep for an hour. No such thing as sleeping for 13hrs here, in fact he's now 3 and still has never slept for that long a stretch! The important thing to note though is that every mum is different, every birth is different and every baby is different so it's impossible to give true advice for the specific mum/baby combo AND before you have a baby, no matter how prepared you may think you are, it's not enough as it's a truly life altering experience! The best thing I found was to know that I would never be prepared enough so I was under no illusions! I don't tell pregnant women by birth story on the whole as they don't need to hear negative stories although I will say that a friend of mine and a very similar experience to me and while I felt surprisingly calm throughout she felt absolutely petrified. I put this down to a number of things - an excellent hypnobirthing teacher, a real grasp of BRAINs and my husband and sister being there, who both have medical experience, both knew my wishes on everything as we had talked it over as nauseam and were able to talk to the professionals on my behalf so I could concentrate. They made me feel safe and looked after.

I'd also echo the love taking its time thing. I thought it would burst out of me when I met DS but I was so exhausted, anaemic and sick that all I could think of was sleep. He is my absolute world now and I'm utterly in love with him but it wasn't an instant thing and that is totally normal too.

Torsz · 03/01/2019 13:03

@stellarfox thanks for the recommendation! I've just downloaded the app and it works on my heartbeat but I can't find anything that could be baby - how far down should I be looking? I'm 19 weeks if that makes a difference ☺️

LivingOnAPear · 03/01/2019 13:08

@MadeInCornwallx3 I am due on the 7th. I have been on here since the beginning but been really slack at adding myself to the list showing due dates (and the fb group).

I’m off to try that heart beat app now Grin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 03/01/2019 13:37

people who have stopped inviting me to things as I’m pregnant

I feel for you @LivingOnAPear

I have had this too - and not from childfree friends, I’m talking my “mum friends”.

I felt very very lonely the whole of December and now I’m just kinda bloody-minded. I’m no longer organising things to try and jolly things along, it’s not worked and nobody wants to do anything with me. I have to act for me and make my own fun —might explain why I’m skiving work at 3.30 to go to the cinema—

I’m also someone who gets energised by being around others, by chatting to folk, and by having a bit of time alone to tidy/potter. All of the above have been sorely lacking for weeks now and it’s gone hand in hand with feeling totalled.

Chicken/egg etc

KoalasAteMyHomework · 03/01/2019 13:44

@stellarfox good luck telling your boss. Am sure it will all be fine and you'll wonder after why you worried!

stellarfox · 03/01/2019 13:51

@Torsz I was not sure where to do it either but I ended up finding it I think a bit below my belly button and I was sat up at the time. I tried a few times before I found anything as I thought it might only work if baby/uterus is in a good position possibly? It is just an app so I don’t know how reliable it is! If you do find it, make a recording of your own heartbeat and then baby’s so you can hear the difference!

Torsz · 03/01/2019 14:08

@stellarfox I found it!!! Thank you 😁 wow it's so much faster than mine! I tried it sitting up and found it really low down x

annihall · 03/01/2019 15:24

@Torsz @stellarfox I've tied the app as well but can only find my own.
there's clearly a lot of noise in my tummy but can't hear a heart beat... was it very clear to hear for you?

Torsz · 03/01/2019 15:28

@annihall it took me ages and it only worked when I was sitting up. I found it really low (just under my pants) and quite far to the right. It was pretty clear to me and I counted 24-25 beats in 10 seconds clip so that works out about right for baby. Are you on the Facebook group? If so I could upload the recording so you can hear! Although I need to know the name of the group as I have two and get them mixed up 😂

Reastie · 03/01/2019 15:46

I tried the app too! It kept stopping and resetting every time I tried to move it so it was a long a tedious process and didn’t find it but was kying down so maybe will try sitting up, although it was a big faff taking off my iPad case!

Torsz · 03/01/2019 15:59

I just tried again and couldn't find it, so I'm just going to be satisfied with having heard it ☺️
In other news, I just realised my innie is gradually developing into an outie 😂

annihall · 03/01/2019 16:07

@Torsz I'm not on the Facebook group yet... I think I'll just try again later tonight :) thank you though x

Torsz · 03/01/2019 16:08

@annihall no worries and good luck! But don't worry if you can't find it - it had to be such a specific position so I think I only found it out of luck!

CrazyCowLady · 03/01/2019 16:57

Hi All,

I am similar to those in hoping to start 'blooming' soon... Currently 17+ and sickness has stopped, although still alot of things making me heave, I just don't have to run to the loo as I know nothing will actually come up. Having weird food aversions and have a very limited diet at the moment, which is really boring! Still quite tired, but not as bad as some of you. Hoping that passes for everyone. Have started to look better though and now obviously preggers to strangers too.

Movements wise- I have felt things since about 15 weeks, on and off, but for a fist time mum, that is VERY early! Started as a few bubbles (which happened once) then muscle twitchy feelings from the inside, then butterfly like feeling/ anxiety type things below my belly button. Now getting a few kicks lower down and 'squirming' is the only way I can describe it?! Like my uterus is full of huge worms that keep flicking their tails out Hmm Weird!!

Have also had a few 'fingers in ears' moments! I'm sure that will carry on until babe is at least 21, right?!

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut Good work! Let us know the outcome. Fingers crossed for better care this time!!

Kescilly · 03/01/2019 16:57

I have a somewhat stupid question. What is nursery and do I need to worry about finding our child a place in one? We won’t need childcare as I will be staying home. But is nursery childcare or school?

CrazyCowLady · 03/01/2019 17:00

@Torz Any idea how the app works? Saw it around a few years ago and it confused me! The sonicaids listen with ultasound, is there ultrasound in phones? And what about the gel?! Arggh! My pregnant brain cant get my head around it!

Havent had a go (lost my phone 4 days ago, which is lush!) but might do once I find it xx

Torsz · 03/01/2019 17:15

@CrazyCowLady that's not actually my username, although it would be if it wasn't taken 😂
It's just using the iPhone microphone which is at the bottom of the phone - I guess it's really sensitive. It just plays it out of the speakers loudly so you can hear the beating sound. I tested it on my chest every so often and could hear my slow, loud heartbeat. When using it on different parts of my stomach it was just noise (except once I heard a slow beat which I think was the placenta as it was the same speed as my normal heartbeat, or could've just been a large artery), but in a certain spot I could suddenly hear a much faster beat that I assume is baby ☺️

stellarfox · 03/01/2019 17:29

@KoalasAteMyHomework Thank you I hope so! 🤞

Glad the app worked! @annihall try at different times of the day and when you’re in different positions. Took me ages too and I think it only works if baby’s in the right position in your stomach so might not work for everyone

@Kescilly nursery to most people is daycare for when you go back to work, so you won’t need it! Apparently some nursery wait lists are a year in advance so you have to get looking early! 😬

Torsz · 03/01/2019 17:32

@stellarfox the waiting list for the nursery at my work is 18 months 😭 and you can't even go on the list until baby is born!

Napssavelives · 03/01/2019 17:39

I can’t find it, deleted the app up avoid obsession ! I’d be no good with a Doppler

Torsz · 03/01/2019 17:47

I just felt baby move AND kick for the first time 😃 I felt my first movements, husband came over and put his hand on and we both felt 2 pretty strong kicks!
Really happy as I've been waiting for movement and wasn't expecting to have a kick at the same time 🥰

Torsz · 03/01/2019 17:48

Haha @Napssavelives probably a good idea - I'm going to try to avoid using it again as I don't want to get obsessed!

Kescilly · 03/01/2019 17:48

@stellarfox thank you! So where do children typically start school? Is it straight to primary school?

I was worried about any of this and then one of my friends told me we needed to start getting baby on lists!

Napssavelives · 03/01/2019 17:53

@Torsz lovely that you and hubby could share that moment! Mine hasn’t felt any kicks yet, it’s more movement flutters from the inside. Its the best feeling :)
