Evening ladies

Only two days of term left. Wooohoooo then getting organised for Christmas and DD 1st birthday. I'm nausea free at the minute and embracing it. It doesn't reduce my anxiety but I don't want the sickness again.

How is everyone?

stylix1981 · 20/12/2018 02:39

@EverythingNow @queenoffox
When i saw my midwife about a week ago she also mentioned the harmony test. She said its just blood tests that replaces the need for the amnio and is being phased in as part of routine appointments.

There was no mention of it just being for older ladies, tho i am 37, and also no mention of me having to pay for it just that it is something that they are doing more often now as it is less risk than the previous tests.

Ninunina · 20/12/2018 05:28

I'm going to do the harmony test instead of the Nuchal fold test since the latter is not standard here (not in the Uk). I'm 37 so I feel I'd like to do something. It's around €370 here (plus the fee for the consultant). It gives a more decisive yes or no answer.

avacadooo · 20/12/2018 06:51

@canonlyhopexo I'm sure your work would rather you were ok but I get it, I feel bad cause it's an awful time to call in sick.
I'm good managed to eat and sleep but just woke up cause I could feel the tablets wear off 😂
Hope it kicks in for you today and makes you feel better💕

QueenofFox · 20/12/2018 07:46

@stylix1981 can I ask where you're based (nosey)? Does that mean you won't have a scan at 12wks? I do remember a BBC program saying it was coming in for older women isn't of the scan in some areas. I'm being looked after by two hospitals -my local and Great Ormond Street and finding the information is different between the two and GOSH is saying I don't need harmony but I'd rather have it! Useful to know if I can say it's standard in some places.

The harmony or NIPD is a diagnostic test rather than confirmation test, although they give a strong indicator. If something shows up you would still need amnio for diagnosis for most conditions (exception of downs/chromosomal disorders (rather than genetic - you can't pull out the mothers gene as the blood will contain it so only have half the story of that makes sense) and you should only have amnio if there is a problem. I'll be booked in for it at 11-14wks. hopefully no one else will need to think about it

Morning all ... I am SO TIRED today!! Had some of the girls over last night for a Christmas get together - totally got away with not drinking as not everyone did anyway! I wasn't even that late to bed - 10.30ish!? ... but my god I am tired today!! Roll on 5pm so I am come back home to sleep!

canonlyhopexo · 20/12/2018 08:05

@avacadooo one of those things that can't be helped I guess. Today I don't feel quite so bad for not making it into work as I've taken the tablets last night before I went to bed (had such a good sleep with no waking up etc!) then 20 mins after waking up was throwing up again so I've just brushed my teeth and had a fruity chewy sweet and going to have more tablets and hopefully just go to sleep. My tummy is really gurgling today and making some funny noises and it's a bit crampy 😬😥

Moncwf · 20/12/2018 08:05

Good to see you @bluesdetoi! I am glad your tests got darker. I'm still doing a few, really need to stop, it's an expensive habit! What's your due date?
Booked in with the midwife for 8 weeks, apparently it's an hour long appointment? I don't remember it being that long with my first.
Has anyone asked to be consultant led/ considered elective section? Any tips or things I should be reading?

bluesdetoi · 20/12/2018 08:24

@mooncwf Happy to be here! Depending on when I ovulated, based on my last period my due date is Aug 20-22nd. I'll have to confirm at an ultrasound at 7 weeks in January, haven't booked yet.

Just like you, I keep testing to be sure. It's a disease lol. I have a 16 months old girl, but all of this early pregnancy stuff seems so scary and novel to me, testing is the only "control" we have at this point.

Lazysundays18 · 20/12/2018 08:33

Sorry ladies but I'm out. I had a miscarriage yesterday at just over 6 weeks. Wishing you all a healthy pregnancy x

@Lazysundays18 Sorry to hear of your loss. I know only too well what it feels like. God bless you, try and enjoy Christmas as much as you can as hard as it will be. :-)

marajade12 · 20/12/2018 10:08

Hi all, just checking in on the new thread.
I’m almost 7 weeks now and getting full on nausea 🤢
Got all the family over for Xmas and really don’t know weather to tell them or not. We told family early in my last pregnancy but ended up tfmr due to serious heart defects. The problem was picked up in the 12 week scan so I really wanted to hold out until that this time round to tell them either way.

luceeee · 20/12/2018 10:24

Hi all! Just found out that I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I find that I get bloated very quickly now after I eat so I'm going for light meals more frequently. Also I want to keep moving, what exercises can we do at this stage?

clairelee17 · 20/12/2018 10:28

Hi @marajade12 I'm contemplating the same thing. I'm just over 7 weeks and told my family around the same time last time (unfortunately last time resulted in a MC at 9 weeks) so really don't want to get their hopes up in case something similar happens. However, not sure how I'm going to hide the quite obvious bloat over Christmas. Hopefully wearing big jumpers is the way to go, thank god it's winter!

KMic · 20/12/2018 10:31

@luceeee congrats!! And welcome!! I think if your body is used to exercise you can continue with what you are doing. Just be careful with weights etc. Walking is meant to be the best thing - I fortunately walk to and from work every day so get a bit of that in. Haven't had the energy to use the gym in the evenings (and would probably just go for a swim now) ... just remember no jacuzzis!!

KMic · 20/12/2018 10:33

@marajade12 @clairelee17 ... I've told just my parents and hoping they will cover my back in front of anyone else. They would mainly notice me not drinking!!

marajade12 · 20/12/2018 11:02

@KMic Good plan!
My family are irish so will defiantly notice I’m not drinking, especially my brothers. Was planning on telling my mum so hopefully she can help with the cover story! Tonic with no gin should be easy enough to pull off 😀

marajade12 · 20/12/2018 11:06

@luceeee sorry to hear about your mc, I am just so nervous this time round even though doc has said risk of the same heart issue reoccurring is very small. The risk is 1:10,000 so I was just really unlucky last time.

marajade12 · 20/12/2018 11:07

Sorry meant to say @clairelee17 there, baby brain already kicking in
