OMG @pigriver what a sad sad thing to happen at what should be such a happy time, I’m so sorry for your loss x

MadeInCornwallx3 · 17/12/2018 20:48

So sorry for your sad news @Pigriver , but so happy for you that the scan went well.

Deffo reckon sending to nubtechs if curious, they couldn't see anything from my scan but got my previous pregnancy correct!

It s bit of fun anyway during these long days/weeks!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 17/12/2018 21:36

I've been tempted to post my scan in the threads on nub theory on here but too scared in case they all think one sex and I get it in my head I'm having a boy/girl and it turns out to be wrong. Think I'll just wait til June!
Oh @pigriver how sad, I'm so sorry for your loss. Nice that the scan went well and you have baby to concentrate on but as a pp said, you have plenty of time to get excited later so just take time now to process and grieve. Thinking of you xx

Kescilly · 18/12/2018 00:38

Does anyone have names picked out yet?

LauralovesLuke · 18/12/2018 06:00

@kescilly yes we have names - we haven't told anyone though as I don't want someone saying "that's my dogs name" or "that was the name of the person who bullied me in school". So we're just waiting until s/he is born so we can be like "here's baby X!"

Have you got names? How do you feel about sharing??

annihall · 18/12/2018 07:02

Good morning ladies...

I just weighed myself and realised I've actually lost 3kg in the last 3 weeks :( now worried that's really bad? Anyone else losing rather than gaining?

Regarding names - dh and I have lots of ideas for girls names but really struggling finding even one boys name we like. Let's hope it's a girl haha. Early gender scan this afternoon so might actually find out today :)

Reastie · 18/12/2018 07:08

Anni I think they start getting a bit itchy if you lose more than 5 % body weight. Is it because of sickness? Are you taking any medication?

I asked the nub people on a Fb group with my scan pic and the mod said it wasn’t clear from the scan picture . Although I still haven’t decided whether to definitely find out of not.

We are thinking of getting a slightly bigger car as our boot is too small for going on holiday with 2 dc and buggy etc. Has anyone got a Toyota auris or Skoda Fabia? Would you recommend? Am wondering about the estate versions of both.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 18/12/2018 07:52

Reastie we have an auris hatchback. Not sure if the estate would be different but my husband complains the boot isn't as big as he'd like. I love the car itself though.
annihall when do you next see your midwife? Have you been sick a lot? It may be worth checking with a midwife or GP just in case.

No ideas on names at all really! Even gone off the other options we had for DS1.

annihall · 18/12/2018 08:04

@Reastie @KoalasAteMyHomework I have been feeling quite sick for a couple of weeks, didn't take any meds but just couldn't eat as much as I should I guess. I was 70kg and this morning only 67... I think I'll give the midwife a call as my next appointment with her is in January

Reastie · 18/12/2018 08:08

Koala the hatchback is the same as the estate only estate comes with a bigger boot so sounds positive.

Anni definitely give her a call although ime mws can be quite laid back/dismissive of pg sickness. Medication could help you feel less sick and so feel able to eat more. Do get gp apt if you’re not sure about advice from mw. Hopefully it’ll improve soon for you.

Kescilly · 18/12/2018 09:41

@LauralovesLuke I think it's a good idea not to share the name with people you know, you don't want anyone spoiling it.

We have a general list going but aren't really attached to anything. Finding boys names much harder! I'm from a different ethnic background so our name list probably looks very different from most people here. :)

toomanyflatwhites · 18/12/2018 10:24

Morning all - @Pigriver I'm so so sorry to hear about your loss, what a difficult time for you and your DP with such mixed emotions. Having had an incredibly sudden death in our family a while back while my DSis was pregnant it does often give you reason to keep going and stay positive when times are hard.

Having been feeling ok I'm suddenly really exhausted today, but from the hips down - it's very strange! My legs feel like lead weights and as if I can hardly lift them to walk. I got the first twinges of SPD yesterday 😩 but no pain today, only the heavy feeling.

Re names: should be easier for us this time as we have secretly found out the gender via the harmony test, DP and I haven't discussed yet as I think he is assuming we revert to our list from last pregnancy but I'm not sure anymore! We really struggled last time and DD almost left the hospital without a name, so hopefully that won't happen this time.

Napssavelives · 18/12/2018 10:30

We’ve not really thought about names (poor third child!) will start to think about it when we found out what we are having

MauisLeftNipple · 18/12/2018 10:32

Did you feel that little breeze pass you by just now? That was the Massive Sigh of Relief from me at having received the all clear on the Harmony. I had my NHS scan yesterday and the bloke said all looked good (incl nuchal) but I've still been v stressed about it.

Interestingly both the Harmony and NHS scans have revised my EDD to the 24th from the 28th. Now, I'm very sure when I ovulated, and my date is more accurate. I just realised that this has happened with all 4 pregnancies. My last pg I was tracking ovulation too. It's a bit annoying, as they will be twitchy about me going overdue due to geriatric status and previous emcs, but actually my last 2 were born a day either side of the official EDD so I should be ok.

pigriver so sorry for your sad news.

annihall if you have been nauseous you have probably taken in fewer calories without realising it, hence the weight loss. I lost 6kg off my 60kg frame at the height of my hyperemesis this time around; I lost 4kg in my previous pregnancy. I am still 1kg down even though I have been eating fairly well. If you are really worried, and if you can't afford to lose the weight (ie your BMI is on the lower end) then I'd see your GP sooner rather than later.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/12/2018 10:33

DH has the diktat this time as to be frank I’ve been the driver behind DD and DS’ name.

So if it’s a girl then it’s decision made.

However if it’s a boy....oooh. I have two in my mind, both very “strong” names like my DS has but I have to choose one and either could “raise eyebrows” outside the nurseries of SW London.

They’re not far out per se but they you won’t find many of them to the penny.

Blondcat · 18/12/2018 10:38

@mauisleftnipple phew glad you got your results and they are all clear what a relief.

We have a couple of boys names we both like but only one girls so far (have a European surname so trying to get a slightly different name which goes but is not too different and could be anglicised so they don't have issues as will have to spell surname at least!)

Kescilly · 18/12/2018 10:57

I've had an unusual name that I've had to spell out my whole life. It honestly doesn't bother me! I like having a name that is unique, as people tend to remember me more easily.

I have my 16 week appointment in an hour and I'm suddenly nervous. What all will the midwife do? Will she take blood again? I have a separate blood test scheduled ten minutes before and was wondering how much blood I'd have to part with today.

Reastie · 18/12/2018 11:01

Mauis that’s brilliant news, you must feel relieved.

I’m planning on having names all picked out before I go to hospital to avoid ‘baby no name’ for 2 weeks like last time where we couldn’t decide. I’m also planning on not telling anyone the name as last time when we were thinking of different names we got loads of unhelpful comments on possible names from people. Funny how everyone has such specific views on names and are happy to tell you when you’re choosing your name but when you’ve chosen and announce the name all you hear is ‘lovely name’.

Felt a bit less sick yesterday, it was wonderful, but feeling back to normal again today and feeling quite down as thought it might have been the end. It is so so waring and grating me down. I couldn’t even wrap Christmas presents this morning as I felt too bad.

toomanyflatwhites · 18/12/2018 11:07

@MauisLeftNipple great news on the results! I got my NHS results back a week before the harmony, and while it was officially low risk it still looked a bit scary to me (am also geriatric...) whereas harmony results were much better.
@Kescilly I think it's normal to be a bit nervous before appointments but from memory the 16 week is a pretty standard check - I can't remember it from last time but just googled it and found some info at the bottom of this page:
https://www.tommys.org/pregnancy-week-by-week/16-weeks-pregnant-whats-happening

SassehMonsta · 18/12/2018 12:29

16 week appointment, mw chatted to me, listened to babys heartbeat (not every mw will do this), and sent me on my way. Im seeing her at 25 weeks as well. Gave results from T11/13/18 - all came back 1:100,000 which is lowest it could be, so pleased.

Reastie, the good days get more often. I'm almost human again at 16+4. Human enough to get mad at DH for not pulling his weight at home anyway!!!

I am so looking forwards to Jan, as gender scan might help my excitement levels - I want to knooooowwwww. Just going to ask at 20 week scan as can't afford private one. I want to buy some baby bits, and a few friends have offered things, but can't say yes until we know gender as everything's very pink or blue - we like neutrals and rainbows, but not all our friends agree!

Anyone else worrying about money side of things yet? I used my Christmas and year end bonus to pay off £1k of overdraft, and still have some more to go before we are out of it. Payday for both of us on Friday but that makes Jan a very long month. I don't know how we will cope on maternity leave as I am main wage earner and DH works just 20 hrs a week. I guess he will have to work more!! We are hoping that he gets offered a full time position in Feb/March when his colleague doesn't return after maternity leave. They keep asking him to go full time, but he won't currently without a payrise - I don't blame him!

annihall · 18/12/2018 12:45

Thanks everyone.
Tried to get hold of my midwife but no luck so far... I've been feeling a lot better recently and definitely starting to eat a bit more again so I'm not too worried, I'm not underweight but definitely shouldn't lose any more. Dh is very concerned about my weight loss though so will keep trying to get through to the midwife to put his mind at ease

lstef · 18/12/2018 12:54

@Reastie - SIL has a Skoda Octavia estate and likes it, boot is huge - I want one too, but might have to wait as cant afford a car right now. hoping dad will be up for helping out.

@SassehMonsta yes have been stressing about money since we found out its twins - the ideal things we want that would make life easier we cant afford unless we have help from family or get credit cards/loans - bigger car, moving house, out n about double buggy, car seats etc etc. got myself in a right state over it yesterday. so i wrote a list of the cheapest and essential options for these things to calm myself down as I don't like to rely on people helping us out. Be amazing if they do but if not then I need to have a solution in place for my sanity!

Reastie · 18/12/2018 13:14

Sass yes I’m concerned about money, especially as if I’m still off next year I’ll be on ssp which as I work part time will only be about £30 a week Shock . We are looking at buying a new car next year as ours is too small for having an extra dc so that’s an added concern. I guess we’ll get through because we have to but it does worry me. We are fine with 1 dc but will be stretched with two. Luckily we’ve kept most baby bits in the loft from dd so hoping initial outlay will be minimal, it’ll be things like nappies etc when it’ll be a noticeable extra. Which reminds me, I’m thinking of doing a mixture of disposables and reusables (just did disposables with dd). I use fabric pads with my mooncup for my period (started a couple of years ago) and wouldn’t go back so wondering about cloth nappies too. Might bring this up here again nearer the time to see if anyone has any recommendations.

That’s positive so many of you are gradually having more better days. Hopefully I’ll slowly get more better days then. I can’t wait!

Reastie · 18/12/2018 13:15

Isef thanks for car comment. I think Octavia estate is the one bigger than the one we’re looking at (I want our car to be as small as we can get away with!)

Kescilly · 18/12/2018 13:18

@annihall I hope that you can get through to her soon. Hopefully you can gain some weight as the pregnancy progresses.

My midwife appointment felt rushed. She checked my blood pressure and asked for my urine sample, which no one had told me to bring in. She also filled out the form for the health visitor but didn’t tell me much about that. I think they will come to our house? No weight check or doppler.

I suppose it’s good that it was uneventful, though!
