Yes MrsMar, if you do have any details on that nesting/cleaning service, I'd be most grateful. I tried googling it but just got lots of bird enthusiast websites lol!

Pennypops · 22/06/2007 14:04

Filbrit - this is my annoying question day, so sorry in advance. What do BH's feel like? I'm trying to figure out if I've had any.

MrsMar · 22/06/2007 14:27

hello everyone!

thanks for concern about my sick leave probs for ante natal appointments. I'm not too worried, as my employers are huuuge and pretty good at doing this sort of thing. I'm not going to lose money by taking sick leave, it was more a case of how do we define my absences on those days. We've agreed that it'll be marked as sick on the rota, but won't be submitted to HR as a sick day, so it won't be counted as a sick day properly. My contract is so wierd. Basically I'm contracted to work 160 hours in a four week period, I'm paid for that amount each month, if I come under hours they either deduct leave from me, or take money from my next payslip. However, we have a local agreement that if we are under hours due to sick leave, then nothing will be deducted and we will be paid for our 160 hours. It took a lot of arguing and calling in the unions last year to get that sorted!

I don't have leaky boobs yet, I'm quite glad actually, I think that's something I could do without, I have enough fluid leaving from every pore as it is. I'm sooo sweaty!

Floss - I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that heavy snoring and sleep apnoea (when you stop breathing momentarily during sleep) are pretty bad things. They can lead to heart attack. I don't want to worry you, but my BIL snores heavily and suffers from sleep apnoea (he's a heavy smoker) and he's had to get treatment from a GP about it. I would defintely do some research on it, and show it to your dp. It might make him realise he needs to do something about it.

HIWBB - I can't believe the crazy dogs just keep coming! I think you should definitely up the ante with your friends, and really lay it on thick about how you struggled with their dog. Maybe the guilt will make them realise how much stress they've put you through and buy you something lovely to compensate!

PLP and Rin - I've left the leaflet with the number of the cleaning company at home today (I'm at work - yuk!) but I will definitely post the details on here tomorrow. I haven't got round to giving them a call yet myself, but I'm very curious! The leaflet does say minimum spend was £50, but for a sparkling hosue I'll pay anything! Question is, how do you time the nesting clean? Do you book it in for when you are 38 weeks and hope it all lasts (and you don't go too overdue!)?

Toadstool - I'm loving the sound of that cd... I've been told by so many people about hypno birthing, but I just know it wouldn't work for me, I'd pee myself giggling all the time!

I finally had a bath this morning, it was fantastic not to have to contort myself in to the kitchen sink. Of course, the builders have got so behind they won't finish until Tuesday now, oh and because of the rain, the painters are a day late too!! HUH???? (some guff about the paint taking longer to dry) Anyway, enough of building woe, this is good practice for labour, every time I step over a pile of tools I try and focus on the happy day when there are no more builders in my house!! Have a good weekend everyone, I'm working so no doubt I'll be hanging around on here loads!

FilBrit · 22/06/2007 16:14

Does anyone know anything about diabetes in pregangy? the hospital just called and my blood test results from the lucozade test are in and they need to retest me as the figures were quite high. DH is now panicing as he is worried that the baby may not be ok and that we may not be able to fly. He's getting all sressed (that was a fun phone dcall at my desk in the middle of a large open plan office with everyone pretending not to listen , so I'm trying to appear v calm about it but am actually really freeked out! Are there certain changes etc I need to make to my diet to control the blood sugar and does anyone know if this can affect the baby? The lady I spoke to was realyl nice but couldn't advice me about any of this as she wasn't a mw

Pennypops - in regard to BH, it feels like a big elastic band around my tummy is contracting and it lasts about 2/3 seconds. At first I thought it was the baby stretching but now I think it's actually braxton hicks, as the baby sometimes kicks when they're happening. Is this how anyone else's feel?

Chattyhan · 22/06/2007 16:18

Filbrit - I don't know anything about diabetes in pregnancy but just wanted to say hope you get it sorted and sorry i posted your reply to flossalump instead of you! Pregnancy brain!

loobybump · 22/06/2007 16:30

Hey everyone im so confused i was trying for ages to type in the old thread! Doh!

I had midwife yesterday and i have high Bp again and my urine infection hasn't cleared . but i thought it had! Boo Hoo. Bonus is i managed to get some lovely jeans from bershka and my dp bought me a massive box maltesers to make me feel better.

Filbrit- i dont know much either on diabetes but i do hope it gets sorted and don't let it worry you.

kinki · 22/06/2007 16:55

Hi ladies. A nesting clean sounds fab! I wonder if anyone does that around my way, I might look into that.

Good and bad news about maternity leave. The twunt from payroll was like talking to the character from Little Britain - the computer says no you can't have any maternity pay. But both my GP and line manager have been fabulous, both offering to write me supporting letters. That month I never got paid was payrolls fault, so that pay should now qualify. And I found out I stupidly claimed one weeks work in the wrong month, so I should be able to get that transfered into the qualifying period too. And my GP has given me a backdated sicknote explaining why I couldn't earn while I was in hospital. So all in all I'm getting a strong case together. My manager has offered me extra work in the next few months, so if I don't get maternity pay, I can still take some time off without being out of pocket. So I'm feeling much better about it now.

Penny, with ds1 my boobs leaked from about 16 wks, with ds2 just a few weeks before birth and nothing so far this time. I think it just varies from pregnancy to pregnancy. BH for me feel like my tummy tightens across the bump, like there's a wide elastic band inside me. It lasts a few minutes then goes. Sometimes I feel a little nauseaus. There're quite subtle at the moment, I do remember them getting more stronger and frequent as d-day approaches. hth.

Right hopey, serious chat needed. Can't one of your dc or you develop an allergy to dogs or something. No more dogs allowed in the hopey household. And, if they are saving £20 a day on dog walking, perhaps they could get your rug professionally cleaned. You're not going to be left with the vets bill are you?

Mrs M, shame the works are delayed, but not long now. It'll be worth it in the end. No progress in my shower room this week, but that's no great surprise.

FilB, when you've moved, what time of day will you be logging in with us? Wouldn't want you stuck in the twilight hours on your own, you will still be able to chat won't you?

I'm off out tonight on a girly night. Nothing too exciting, just a bit of a get together with other mums from school. It's been a while since I've been up to going out (pathetic emoticon) so I'm quite looking forward to it. Not sure how I'll cope being sober. The last time I went out I could drink. This is a novel experince for me. Think I'd better drive, so I'm not tempted. Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

kinki · 22/06/2007 16:59

FilB, I had gestational diabetes 2 years ago with ds2. First thing don't panic. I'm going to post this bit now, so you know you're getting an answer, then I'll post some informaiton. DON'T WORRY!

Pennypops · 22/06/2007 17:15

Filbrit I don't know a great deal about gestational diabetes but I'm sure it can be controlled and managed. I have my fingers crossed for you that the test result was just a bit of an abberation and that you get reassurance soon xx

kinki · 22/06/2007 17:26

Tink had it too I recall, so she'll probably give you some information too. If they decide you do have it, they should refer you to the hospital's diabetic/dietary department. These guys are really helpful in my experience. The thing is with this diabetes is that at the moment your body is not breaking down sugar that is in your diet. It stays in your system, and being in your blood goes to your baby too. Can't remember all the ramifications of this, but one is that the baby gets big.

So they will discuss with you various ways of reducing the amount of sugar in your system. Firstly by adjusting your diet. Two years ago, I was recommended to follow a low GI diet, which basically allows 'slow releasing' sugars. But there's lots they can tell you. You may be shown how to monitor your blood sugar levels for a period. This is done with a little device that pricks your finger. They might ask you to monitor before and after you have eaten, and to keep a food diary. If your levels are within certain limits, you may carry on with just that. That didn't work for me. I had to have insulin. If you end up going down that road, I can give you information about that then. But it isn't that bad. Lots of monitoring and injections, but not too bad. Delivering the placenta cures most cases of gestational diabetes - so its all over when your baby's born. With your imenient move, I'd chase them for a quick retest, so balls can be set in motion asap.

Regarding the baby, as I said, if left unchecked, you could be in for a big baby, as the excess sugar goes his/her way. My ds was only 7 pound 4 though. Healthwise and diabetic wise, he was fine during the pregnancy. He did have a few problems after birth to do with low blood sugar, but this isn't the norm. Within a week he was fighting fit and has been well ever since. Any questions, I'll be happy to help if I can, and I'm sure Tink would too or anyone else that's been there. Chin up.

sophus · 22/06/2007 17:42

Filbrit - i haven't got it, but had two good friends with it and in majority of cases, it is just about controlling your diet and as Kinki says it dissappears with birth. So you can reassure your DH that it is a) temporary and b) totally controllable. They will probably ask you in for a more extensive glucose test and take it from there, but i can understand how the uncertainty can be worrying.

To cheer everyone up for the weekend, take a look at this charming photo. It kind of defies comment really....

Nope, this is the september thread, you want the october one

MrsMar · 22/06/2007 18:14

Filb - sorry to hear about the possible gd diagnosis, it sounds like it's manageable though. I hope you get things sorted soon.

Sophus - pmsl at that photo, talk about milking machine!!

Kinki - that's great news about the maternity pay, lets hope they see sense finally, great to have your gp and manager on your side! Have a lovely night out tonight. I'm v jealous as I'm working until 11pm tonight!

kinki · 22/06/2007 18:14

We're all porkies round here, but I don't think we're the 'piggies into porkies' though (are we? ). Welcome anyway.

That photo is just so funny. Like you'll be making phone calls and checking your diary at the same time.

MrsMar · 22/06/2007 18:19

oh, and on the subject of braxton hicks... I'm fairly sure I've been having them for a while, since at least week 20. At first they felt like a band of pressure across my bikini line, between my hip bones. Now they feel like my whole abdomen is being compressed, like someone is sitting on me. They're not painful, but if I'm walking it can double me up a bit, but I think that's because the muscle is contracting, making me double over slightly (a bit like a sit up!) The funny thing is I think they wake the baby up a bit, cos he often goes in to a frenzy of kicking afterwards.

The builder traumas go on... now he says the tiles I bought are too thick and he's got to go and buy a special tile cutter (they're only porcelain ffs, what does he need, a diamond cutter - oh yes, apparently!) Now it means that next week I've got the prospect of builders and painters falling over each other for four days not two. Ok, focus on the end result (I told you this was good practice for labour!)

FilBrit · 22/06/2007 18:21

Thanks everyone for being so nice and Kinki thanks for the great advice - feeling a lot calmer now!

That bra is quality! very mummy moo cow chic

XX

FilBrit · 22/06/2007 18:29

Kinki - forgot to say, It's about an 8 hour difference when we've moved so I'll still be able to chat (no escape - sorry everyone!)with you all in the mornings as that I'll be my evenings. Have a good time tonight, good luck with the whole being sober thing!

kinki · 22/06/2007 18:43

Thanks, and you're welcome. Glad you'll still be able to chat.

canadianmum · 22/06/2007 19:07

flossalump - totally sympathise about the snoring, although my DH is not overweight I have been nagging him to see the GP but he thinks I am being silly. Can you get him to try those nose strips? They don't stop the snoring but they do help lower the volume!

HIWBB - talk about canines from hell! I was thinking about getting a dog in a few years' time but maybe I will just get a goldfish instead . You really must think of a way of getting these boxer owners back, maybe you could rent a baby rhino and get them to look after it for you for a fortnight???

My braxton hicks are similar to everyone else's plus the added bonus of feeling slightly breathless like my lungs are also being given a gentle squeeze.

I had a growth scan yesterday and babe is fine, absolutely average everything except for longer than average femur - cool! Estimated weight 2lbs 11ozs at 27+5. So that accounts for SOME of my weight gain .

PurpleLostPrincess · 22/06/2007 19:47

Hi all,

Sorry to hear about the worry of diabetes FilBrit but sounds as though it can be managed. I don't have any advice to offer but am thinking of you...

As far as BH goes, I've been getting a stitch in my bump when I'm walking sometimes or even when I'm not. It lasts a few minutes but my bump doesn't actually go hard. I didn't have BH with either of my two - am I having them now perhaps?

Glad you're getting your maternity sorted MrsMar and kinki - I'll give you an update on my situation when I get the chance to speak with my Directors on Monday!

That pic is hilarious!! I wouldn't mind but I know somebody who it would be perfect for lol!

dal21 · 22/06/2007 20:09

Hello everyone!

Sympathise with those of you with snoring DP's / DH's. I used to date someone who was a terrible snorer - he was overweight and it was even worse, if poss, when he had had a few drinks. I resorted to ear plugs - but if you have kids, guess that isnt an option.

FilB - sorry, have no idea what lies ahead. My GTT is in a couple of weeks and diabetes runs on my dads side, so let us know how you get on.

Now I have a question - maybe TMI, so apologies in advance . I read everywhere that women suffer from constipation in pregnancy. I am quite the opposite - especially in the last week. Stomach gets quite upset and then have to go to the loo. Dont want to bother docs/ midwive with it. Anyone else in the same boat?

PurpleLostPrincess · 22/06/2007 20:30

Hiya Dal21, I'm afraid I suffer from constipation most of the time in pg so I can't help you. Hope somebody else comes along with some wisdom!
