Pennypops, LOL at rocking to build up momentum!

Anybody else here have a child starting school when they are due? Just found out that my daughter's start date for Reception is almost exactly the same day that I will be having a C-section, aarrrggh!! Childcare isn't an issue as my Mum will be with her when DH is with me - but I'm so worried about (a) not being there for her on her first day and (b) it being too unsettling for her. I don't want it to look like "we have a new baby now so you can bgger off to big school..." She had a visit to Receptionh today and it didn't go too wel, so I'm dreading* the upheaval for her.

kinki · 27/06/2007 19:13

Aw, that's unfortunate timing tink. At her school do they stagger the starting days for different children (at ds's school they had them starting over a month period). If so, could you ask if she could start on one of these different days iyswim, so it doesn't coincide with your cs. If not what about asking if she could do half days for a bit, so it won't be that dissimilar to pre-school for her (if she goes that is).

Hi All ,
Thanks for the welcome back ladies,

What a crappy day for weather,Had loads of washing to do as well so dryer has been going nearly non stop all day,Shampooed the downstairs carpets too so had to have the heating on cos couldnt have the doors open,i`ve sweat like a pig all day...killer!

Glad you had a good day out MrsFish, havent been to Alton Towers for years, well decades really!

Havent been sick yet with the heartburn or too much grub, but have nearly wet myself with coughing when the acid comes back into my mouth.... yuk...not nice.

Pram issue here is already solved,(apart from the colour)going for a Phil and Teds as I can use the add on seat bit for DS as I will still have to plonk him in something at times as I dont drive(only DP does)and IF we do decide to go for a third it will also have to be soonish after this one(I think someone else mentioned this but cant remember who...sorry.) as I am an old fart so will be useful then too.

DP still at work, god knows what time he will be back so having a takeaway tonight so that will get the heartburn raging away so may as well follow it all up with a cream cake and top it off with half a pint of milk to kill the heartburn before bed.GREAT.

Take care all

Hello all!

Can't sleep so have come downstairs Last day at work today - yay! I'll let you know how I get on!

I so empathise with those of us struggling to get around - my hips have been really playing up lately. I'm sure tiredness adds to the pain but the lack of sleep is due partly to the hips so I'm in a catch 22!! I've had a run of bad nights now (over a week!) and I'm running on low batteries and getting all emotional etc.

I too keep a bottle of 'peptac' on my bedside table! I think its the equivalent to gaviscon but a cheaper version - big bottle and can't cope without it!

We've picked out our travel system and its nothing flash. I showed my Mum and she has offered to buy it which is lovely. It's got pink on it though so she is refusing to buy it until baby is born in case they've got it wrong and its not a girl. I guess that's practical and I can't say it hasn't crossed my mind!

I'll catch up with you properly soon - gonna try and get a little sleep before the alarm goes off...

PLP xx

Tinkjon · 28/06/2007 09:19

Kinki, they stagger the intake over 2 days, so either way it's really close. She will start mornings only, so that's good. I could have the section done 2 weeks early, which would mean she'd have a week at school before the baby arrived, but I keep hearing that sections before 39 weeks aren't a good idea (in which case why did they say they'd do it at 38 or 39?!) I have a consultant appointment this morning so will find out what they think about 38 versus 39.

Chattyhan · 28/06/2007 09:24

Sorry to those of you with puking issues - i haven't had that thank god.

My heartburn tips are papaya, chewing gum and vinegar.

I had a graco quattro travel system last time but it's been living in the shed so i want a silver cross 3d. Let me know if you've heard anything about them good or bad!

TinaLC lying on your back is not recommended after 30 wks cos of weight of baby etc on your spine and nerves. but i'm a great believer that if you feel comfortable your not doing any harm!

Tink - My DS was due to start nursery 5 days before my due date so i've postponed him until after oct half term.

MrsFish · 28/06/2007 09:41

Chattyhan - now you mention it, I have noticed that chewing gum helps... will buy some when I go shopping later

FlossALump · 28/06/2007 09:51

since my early pregnancy MS I've gone right off chewing gum. Just the thought of it has the opposite effect on me!

Hopeitwontbebig · 28/06/2007 09:51

Morning lovelies,

Tink, that is bad timing isn't it. When you say her visit to school didn't go well, what happened? Was she tearful? I agree with what you're saying about seeing if you can move your cs date. Is your Mum ok to be on standby if she needs picking up from school after just an hour? I know you said it's mornings only, but was wondering if it might be an easier transition if she went for the odd hour here and there and gradually built it up over the first couple of weeks. I think it's important that she starts at the same time as her peers, although it wouldn't be horrendous if she started a week after them. Has she got any friends from pre-school going into the same class as her?

What I did when I was pregnant with DS2 was to buy lots of little presents, nothing expensive, but when DS2 arrived, every now and again DS1 would find a present sitting next to the baby for him, so he quickly associated the baby as being a positive thing is his life! Admittedly DS1 was a bit younger than your daughter, but it might make it all seem a bit more special for her?

[waves at everyone]

Hi everyone, I haven't been on for a couple of days as yesterday was my last day at work and it was CRAZY finishing everything before I left. Work were lovely gave me a huge bunch of flowers and a really generous collection for me to buy goodies . It was also DD last day at her nursery too before our move, she got a bit upset saying goodbye to all her friends and her teachers, that I found myself getting quite tearful as everyone was hugging her goodbye.

At the risk of sounding smug for those still working (sorry everyone!) it is bliss being on maternity leave. I find my job quite stressful and the relief of not having to worry about all the issues and keeping on top of the 100 odd emails I was getting a day is so nice!

Tink - nightmare timing about the school, but I'm sure it'll be ok

I'm off to read the rest of the thread now as it seems even in a couple of days I've missed so much!

Jollybaby · 28/06/2007 10:53

Hello,

Only just found you! I have been chuckling away and the puking incidents but am regretting it now as i am now feeling quite queasy! Hopefully this pregnancy induced hypochondriacism won't last too much longer!

Going right back to the chat about the dogs has anyone else found that since being pregnant their dog has been horrifically behaved - peeing, puking and pooing everywhere, sneaking into my bedroom and sleeping under the covers and going through the bins and recyling. Its all getting a bit to much!

MrsMar · 28/06/2007 11:29

Hello everyone... I'm sooooo jealous of everyone starting mat leave now. I'm absolutely shattered and now totally depressed as I've just counted out and i've got 7 weeks to before I finish (and that's just because I'm tacking on two weeks of annual leave before my mat leave) I'm still waiting to hear about the week in July I wanted off to go to France, which if I don't get will reduce me to tears of frustration. And to cap it all I've had all my shifts moved around because of some cock up and I'm doing a 60 hour week this week to make up for the fact they can't find enough shifts for me next week! Argh!!

Rant over - and there is one ray of sunshine, the bathroom is due to be finished today (hmm I'll believe that when I see it) and my bedroom painting has been finished. I nearly finished myself off yesterday putting everything back in there, but I was determined to have just one room in the house that wasn't horrendous! Although it smells a bit painty (I've been burning my stash of Jo Malone candles all night!) it's sooooo lovely. The painter has started on the living room now so we'll have that back for the weekend, yipee!!!

Sorry to hear about everyone with sickness/acid problems. That is one thing I can be smug about (although, pride comes before a fall eh?) so far, touch wood, I haven't had anything more than the occasional burst of acid, and it goes after an hour. I haven't been sick either, but then I'm not a very sicky person, I think I've been sick less than ten times in my whole life!

Filbrit - glad your last day at work went well, your colleages sound so sweet! When's the big move?

PLP - I hope the last day at work went well... see feelings above!! hehehehe! Seriously, how lovely for you, I hope you get lots of nice goodies too! My boss texted me last night (huh?) to find out what my last day is, so she can make sure she's around. I'm secretly hoping she'll order some cakes for us to have by way of farewell

Have a lovely day everyone, I'm willing the clock to move quickly so home time comes round sooner, I can't wait to see my finished bathroom and start putting stuff back in there! Ooooh sod that, I'm looking forward to having a bath and not sharing the tub with half a ton of rubble!!

xx

Pennypops · 28/06/2007 11:39

Hey there lovely ladies,

Well Chatty - I will being trying the chewing gum and papaya tips pronto. Not so sure I can bring myself to try the vinegar idea.

Filbrit it sounds like you had a lovely send off. I hope you enjoy your leave and I will try not to be too PLP I hope your last day goes well too.

I can't WAIT to stop - 4 and a half weeks to go. Nearly cried this morning on the way in today. Had another run in with a First Great Western ticket inspector (resorted to pleading and he relented) and then the Central line was so rammed I couldn't even get on the first 2 trains that arrived. Finally got to work feeling really beaten up and had to sort out a load of grief the minute I sat down. It's in the nature of my job that its quite argumentative at times but I've just had enough. My energy has to go towards the baby and there's just not enough left for the usual argy bargy.

Hope everyone has a good day xx

MrsFish · 28/06/2007 11:45

Oh dear, roll on mat leave then pennypops, how much longer do you have to commute for?

Pennypops · 28/06/2007 12:05

Hi Mrsfish - will need to commute for the full time I have left so 4 and a bit weeks. I work one day a week at home which is good but each day it just gets that little bit more difficult to do the journey.

Sorry to whinge - prob just hormonal day....

amyclaramum · 28/06/2007 12:09

Oh Pennypops what a nightmare ? Can't you ask your boss if you can travel after the early morning rush and go home early to avoid being squashed on the tube ? I remember commuting when preg with DD1 and it got really uncomfortable - I ended up going in later and staying late until 7or 8 so I could get a seat!

Plp - hope your last day goes well and you manage to catch up on some sleep !

Filbrit - you must be getting really excited about your move now ? What a lovely send off from work.

Hello to everyone else - hope you have a lovely day ! I am washing and ironing all day today to try and get the washing mountain down ! So boring !

Hopeitwontbebig · 28/06/2007 13:13

Welcome on board Jollybaby!!! When are you due? Don't get me started on dogs!!!!

Pennypops awful situation for you. Roll on your maternity leave I say. What a bunch of b*stards the general public are. I found it annoying enough when people wouldn't give me a big enough gap to squeeze through when I say excuse me.... That's nothing compared to your nightmare. Been meaning to ask you, has all the bleeding settled down now? Hope so.

MrsMar you enjoy your bath, I hope they've plumbed it in properly for you !!!!

Filbrit very exciting stuff re your move. Make sure you give us lots of updates on how it's going. I'm assuming you'll have internet access immediately????

OP posts:
Pennypops · 28/06/2007 13:53

Hi Hopey,

Thanks for asking and am almost too nervous to type this but yes, touch wood, bleeding seems to have stopped - I haven't had one since 25 and a bit weeks and am now 30 + 1! I'm so relieved - it really was a nightmare for a few weeks.

It's odd - have tried to explain this to others but everyone thinks I'm imagining it. I have this really tangible sense of my body sort of settling down to prepare for the final act! Its similar to what I had at the beginning when I could sort of feel my body going on to autopilot to make sure the baby survived and thrived. Did you ever have those feelings with dc's?

MrsMar · 28/06/2007 13:56

hahahahaha HIWBB!! can you imagine? I pull the plug and the whole thing empties into my neighbours flat! hehehehe

Pennypops · 28/06/2007 14:00

MrsMar you have a very wicked streak

MrsMar · 28/06/2007 14:37

Ooooh I know

Tinkjon · 28/06/2007 14:41

HIWBB, the visit to school went badly because she was terrified of the school bell. She's got a real phobia of things that make sudden, loud noises nd the bell really upset her and she said she doesn't ever ever want to go to that classrom again. I'm sure she'll get used to it over a few weeks but I wanted the transition to be as smooth as possible. A bit of a silver lining though, in that one of her friends is starting a week later so I'm going to talk to the school and se if she can do that too. And speaking if silver linings, I just passed my GTT and am eating a big pack of Jelly Babies Lots of luck to everyone else for their GTTs!

Pennypops, I sympathise with the Central Line misery! I'm a SAHM now but used the Central in my last pregnancy and I know how miserable it can be.

Fil, what a lovely thing from your colleagues - enjoy your last day!

Pennypops · 28/06/2007 15:58

Hey Tink, congrats on the GTT test. You have now made me think I fancy some jelly babies!!

Sorry to hear your dd didn't like her first school experience. Hopefully she'll settle down into it and learn to love it!
