Hope you all had a lovely Christmas ladies! 🎄

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 26/12/2018 19:28

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Has anyone bagged a bargain in the Boxing Day sales?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 27/12/2018 00:39

There are some lovely clothes out there but have resisted so far in the sales as we don't know what size she will be and after the fun we have buying for her brother it is probably not really a saving to do anything other than wait until she arrives!

Woken again with another breathing problem. Tried without all my extra pillows as I couldn't get comfy.... Well that didn't work. It's terrifying, especially as an asthmatic! I definitely didn't get this at all last time :(

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 27/12/2018 10:50

@SquirtlesMumAgain you're very restrained! The only reason I haven't bought a tonne of clothes is because we don't know what we're having and the unisex stuff just isn't as cute. We've literally saved hundreds by not knowing! 😂

Oh no, that's awful! Hopefully it's just baby laying high up and will get better soon!

Wineandchoccy · 27/12/2018 11:39

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I haven’t bought much either a) we haven’t found out the sex and b) like @SquirtlesMumAgain it’s so hard knowing what size they will be dd was about 3 months behind for the 1st 18 months so she would have been in the wrong seasons if we had bought ahead.

HidCat · 27/12/2018 16:49

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I got a sprung cotbed mattress for £22.50 from Dunelm! Really pleased. Other than that didn't need anything big so waiting for the Jan / Feb baby events for the consumables.

@SquirtlesMumAgain oh no I hope you figure out a way to manage it. This pregnancy has been harder for me with breathing too but I've not had trouble at night thus far.

WhatALearningCurve · 27/12/2018 18:22

I have a question that may go down like a sack of spuds but it's not really one I can ask to real life people in case I'm being massively unreasonable. Does anyone else get irritated when their partners touch their stomachs?

I know it's a good thing that he wants to bond with the baby before he's actually here and that it must be amazing to feel the kicks and movement etc.

But at the same time.....it's still my stomach. I think some of it may be from the fact I was overweight when I got pregnant so I would have hated him to lie there stocking my belly then and those hang ups don't really go away - especially as I'm getting bigger. I've not said anything to him as I think it would devastate him, but sometimes I just want to tell him to get off me!

There. Put it out into the world and rant over ha.

Angelmiracle · 27/12/2018 19:18

@WhatALearningCurve Oh I'm definitely like this! I slapped DH hand away today and he was just coming over for a feel at baby. I did feel bad but I was trying to rest on the sofa at the time. It was just annoying more than anything.

I too am very self conscious of my tummy due to being overweight and always hated him touching it so it's hard to feel relaxed about it.

If baby is very active I encourage him to feel the movement but don't particularly like it at any other time.

If he wasn't even trying to I'd prob be complaining about that too lol. DS kisses and touches bump loads but that doesn't bother me at all 😂

@SquirtlesMumAgain I've been very breathless this week I feel like a beached whale. I know the big Christmas dinners didn't help either. But bump is so hard at the top with the placenta and baby's head.

Either anaemic or just running out of room!! It must feel really scary with asthma.

WhatALearningCurve · 27/12/2018 19:27

@Angelmiracle oh thank god ha. I've got five nieces and they are constantly touching and kissing my belly, completely happy with that because they're like 8 years old ha. To be honest, I'm not much of a touchy feely person and I don't like feeling restrained in my sleep (I'd always choose to be big spoon rather than little spoon!) so I just end up irritated by him touching me sometimes.

It's just hard to remind people sometimes that just because I'm pregnant it doesn't mean that I've completely changed as a person!

Angelmiracle · 27/12/2018 19:29

To top all off DS had an itchy rash appear at back of his neck yesterday. No temperature or other symptoms but piriton and creams were not helping. The rash was an angry red this morning so I got appointment with GP.

Got sent home with a 10 day antibiotic for scarlet fever!! Poor child couldn't go to his classmates party this evening.

@WhatALearningCurve I'm not that bothered about DH touching me but I do get really self conscious when he looks at my belly. I think it's because I know he's thinking about how big I've gotten and I still equate my growing belly with being over weight.
MIL has tried to touch it a couple of times but I've given her the death stare and she seems to have got the message.
I'm definitely starting to feel more self conscious and finding it difficult that I can't hide the bump as easily as I used to!
I saw my dad today and the first thing he said was "bloody hell, you look like a snake swallowed a pig in that dress". He was only joking and luckily I saw the funny side but I don't think people understand that we can still be a bit insecure about our bodies even though they're doing wonderful things!

Elizabeth134 · 28/12/2018 07:37

@assumeitwassomethingclever I know what you mean about hiding it. Was able to quite easily with a big jumper until a couple of weeks ago but now feel like everyone can see how fat i’ve got. My MIL called me a ‘wide load’ the other day and I can’t seem to take it as a joke which hasn’t helped.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 28/12/2018 07:51

Thankfully DH only touches bump when offered and even then not for long. She doesn't really do much kicking to be felt outside at the moment, but then neither did her brother.
Thankfully no other family have tried touching or made any negative comments, only commenting that I have a proper bump now (rather than just looking a bit bigger) which I definitely do. Had worse comments from strangers!

We had the most amazing gift from my sister in law - she did us a care parcel of things Inc breast pads and the lansinoh cream (godsend!) but also things like tea bag squeezers for all those one handed cups of tea, a grabber (like you use for litter picking) for all those times the TV remote falls off the sofa when feeding/stuck under a sleeping baby, an extra long charging lead because you don't want to run out of phone battery and an envelope marked "Emergency Takeaway Money" for the night when you just can't face cooking!!!
It is the most thoughtful and useful gift - she has taken all her experience from having a little one last year and put it to good use!!!

Wineandchoccy · 28/12/2018 09:31

@SquirtlesMumAgain what a great present 👍

Sictransitgloria · 28/12/2018 11:01

Hello thank you for your kind advice re:anxiety. Since being off work, the anxiety level has exponentially reduced so think I will be counting the weeks until mat leave now. 9 weeks woohoo! When have people decided to go off on mat leave? I am going at 36 weeks.

Browsing the sales, can’t find any decent ones to buy nursery stuff/prams. We have nothing bar a groegg and some clothing for baby boy and I am hoping the Jan sales come up trumps!

@squirtlesmumagain that sounds like the ideal present. What a thoughtful gift. My friend has just ended her marriage and is on a spiral of self destruction - her contribution was she will come and stay with me (she lives 5 mins away) to help with baby. Translation: I will have two children to look after 😂

Wineandchoccy · 28/12/2018 11:41

@Sictransitgloria I’m currently due to finish at 38 + 5 and using a weeks holiday so officially mat leave starts on my due date, but does all depend on the next 2 scans as to how baby is and whether my placenta has moved so it may have to be moved forward.

Glad your anxiety is a bit better. Are any mothercare stores closing near you? They announced 50 are closing but since another 10 are also closing I went in ours on Xmas eve and there were some decent offers.

Priscilla83 · 28/12/2018 17:08

Question about pram/travel systems. Has anyone got the Quinny Moodd? I really love the design so we bought the travel system.

When we put it together we found that the carrycot & car seat wobble when on the frame. To attach them to the moodd frame you use adaptors (which themselves move around a lot). I've read a number reviews online where people say they love the pram, only a few mention the wobble. From the reviews people are suggesting the wobble is normal, even with other brands. Does anyone else have experience of this? I've asked the shop where I've bought it from about it and they have also said it's normal.

MistakenHoliday · 28/12/2018 18:15

@Wineandchoccy do you have placenta praevia (I'm so behind on these threads!)? I've do and have my 32 week scan in a couple of week's time to see if it's moved. I'm willing it daily to go up a bit so I don't have to have a c-section! I've got nothing against them but am nervous about potential recovery time and the whole not being able to drive thing Confused

Wineandchoccy · 28/12/2018 19:01

@MistakenHoliday my placenta was partially covering my cervix so they did say they thought it would move

MistakenHoliday · 28/12/2018 19:33

Ah! Same here - just touching it. Fingers crossed for the next scan!

Wineandchoccy · 28/12/2018 19:55

@MistakenHoliday apparently it’s only 1% that don’t move so hopefully they both shift out of the way for us 🤞

HidCat · 28/12/2018 20:34

@WhatALearningCurve I have times like that too. Usually I don't mind but sometimes I just don't want to be touched! Ironically when I suggest he feels it as baby is moving he usually declines. They can't win really can they 😆

@SquirtlesMumAgain that sounds like the best gift ever!

@Priscilla83 no experience with that one I'm afraid. Our Mamas and Papas one is pretty solid in the adapters.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 28/12/2018 21:03

@Sictransitgloria I'm planning on going on mat leave at 36 weeks too. Seems the right time to leave. Hopefully it'll give me time to get everything sorted but not too much time that I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs.

Has anyone got a crib/Moses basket yet? We got a bargain cot bed on Black Friday but need something for the first few months. I've been looking at bedside cots but they don't come up high enough to be at the same level as our bed. I've also had mixed reviews of Moses baskets. They seem to be like baby marmite!

Priscilla83 · 28/12/2018 21:13

@Sictransitgloria we getting the shnuggle dreami it's lovely quality Smile
