Thanks for the advice about the bicarbonate paste - haven't tried it yet but have looked it up!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 17/12/2018 08:54

I went to a family birthday party at the weekend and had my first bump grabbers. A lot of them! Weirdly with some people I didn't mind at all and others made me want to punch them. 😂 DH was like "oooh leave them be, they're just excited"
I get excited in a cake shop but that doesn't mean I go around groping the iced buns!!

Nightmanagerfan · 17/12/2018 10:43

@murphyrocks @amyem thanks for the recommendations - there’s an offer on one of those so i might order it. Saw the midwife this am for my 25 week check and she has referred me to physio. There’s a 6 week wait but she said it’s only likely to get worse, so best to put the referral in now. I do find a hot bath and massage helps with the hip pain, as does keeping moving during the day. Jury out for me re Pilates/yoga as I’ve act felt worse after the last two classes.

Hope everyone is having a good start to the week.

Wineandchoccy · 17/12/2018 11:47

I’m so tired today we went away last night, spent the day Christmas shopping and felt like I walked miles and althoughthe bed was comfy I could have done with my pregnancy pillow or more pillows

amyem · 17/12/2018 19:37

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I know that feeling!! Family I don't mind at all but a woman at work did it to me a few weeks ago, bearing in mind she'd only been there a few days and I've hardly spoken to her, just touched it as I walked past! I think some people think that when you're pregnant the rules of personal space don't apply! Grin

amyem · 17/12/2018 19:39

@Wineandchoccy oh bless you :( I think with shopping you don't always realise quite how far you've actually walked, and then it makes me feel so unfit for struggling with it! Hope you're feeling better now you have your own bed xx

amyem · 17/12/2018 19:41

@Nightmanagerfan have you tried one of those belt things that goes round your pelvis/under your bump? Sorry I'm not entirely sure what they are as I don't have one myself! But I've heard a few people mention them and I think they're meant to give you a bit more support?

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 17/12/2018 21:44

@amyem It's like you all of a sudden become public property! It's all very odd.

ballanj · 17/12/2018 21:52

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I've yet to encounter bump grabbers! Although seeing my sister over Christmas and she's been dying to feel hulk kick so she'll be all over the bump I reckon! Family I don't mind so much, fortunately no randoms have tried to cop a feel 😂

ballanj · 17/12/2018 21:54

New thing for me is when I sneeze I'm feeling proper ligament pain for the first time! At least I'm not wetting myself I suppose 😂

Oh and for those talking about pregnancy pillows, I paid £45 for my dream genie and it's the best money I've spent on this pregnancy alongside my seraphine thermal leggings. Some things are worth the money!

Angelmiracle · 17/12/2018 22:17

I got 2 "oh congratulations I didnt know you were pregnant" comments today at work. Bump is literally expanding by the day.

Lots of low bladder/pelvic kicks atm.

@Nightmanagerfan def feel sorer after the Pilates glad it's off for a few weeks now. Said I'll be back Jan but will see.

After my midwife referred me for physio I now have an appointment for am antenatal physiotherapy 'group session' of 20-30 women. And you'll get a 1:1 appointment if 'there's a clinical need' wtf?!

We had a wedding on Saturday in torrential rain- horrendous. Not good in dress and stilettos (also very bad for pelvic pain!!) Then nephew birthday party followed by a santa trail yesterday evening. Totally exhausted too @Wineandchoccy but finding it hard going over to sleep the last 3 nights 😣

Wineandchoccy · 17/12/2018 22:20

@Angelmiracle blimey that sounds exhausting just reading that 😭
I am at a works do in a few weeks dress code glamour flat shoes are not glamorous are they but a night in stilettos 😩

HidCat · 18/12/2018 07:31

I've had a couple of bump strokes with the work social stuff this last week but nothing too problematic so I've let it go. Lots of comments now though, I think people hadn't realised how big I've got due to the layers of clothing and have suddenly caught on.

Roll on Friday so I can have a week off work!

ballanj · 18/12/2018 09:17

@melissa112 have a good 28 week check today, hope the midwife can help alleviate some of your anxieties you've been feeling lately and provide some reassurance

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 18/12/2018 09:29

@HidCat I think that's the same with me. I've ballooned in the last couple of weeks and due to it being winter I've managed to hide it under jumpers. As soon as I wear something that isn't 10cm thick people are taken aback with how big I've got!
I think I have negative body dismorphia as everyone seems to think I'm a lot bigger than I do!

I've also had the MIL tell me that she thinks we're expecting a girl as I'm big all over.... I don't know how she does it but she never fails to rub me up the wrong way!!

BadBadBeans · 18/12/2018 11:00

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I was also at a family party this weekend and had my first bump grabs this pregnancy. I didn't mind most of them, but some of the family are VERY distant relatives and I found that a bit more weird! However, everyone was just being nice I suppose. Chuckled at your iced buns analogy! Also, your MIL is a total cow to say that. I would be hacked off too!

I'm 27 weeks tomorrow. Time is whizzing by. I could do with another six months to prepare! Mind you, I wouldn't want to spend another six months pregnant...!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 18/12/2018 11:32

@BadBadBeans I must admit, it did take all my strength not to sit on her and smother her to death.
I know what you mean! I'm no where near ready. I always think January and February fly by and it's guaranteed to go by at twice the rate this year! Waiting for nesting to kick in to give me motivation.

WhatALearningCurve · 18/12/2018 11:42

Has anyone started confirming with work when they're going to start maternity leave and things? (I think we may have all discussed this before but now it feels a lot more real and formal ha)

SquirtlesMumAgain · 18/12/2018 13:27

Definitely couldn't do a night in stilettos (but to be fair I couldn't even when not pregnant - tiny feet problems!), but managed some wedges for an Xmas do a couple of weeks ago which was OK.
Thankfully no bump grabbers here in either pregnancy so far. I grew massively early on, but not a lot recently. Saw the consultant this morning and they are happy my BMI hasn't gone up (though they weighed me with my shoes on which was mega weird!). Tomorrow is my GTT.... Looking forward to 2+ hours peace and quiet, I even bought a book. I generally don't get that time to sit and concentrate!

BadBadBeans · 18/12/2018 13:41

@AssumeItWasSometingClever - hahaha! She would have deserved it!!! I've been nesting since about month three - very different to my last pregnancy when it all hit me at about 39 weeks and I ended up crying over the cleaning. Despite early nesting this time, the house is still horrendous. But at least it is less horrendous than it was!

@SquirtlesMumAgain good luck with the GTT!

Oh I forgot to say - I also received my Christmas present from my dad this weekend. A bottle of gin and a bottle of wine. You've got to love dads and their inept gift-giving, haven't you?!

Angelmiracle · 18/12/2018 13:56

@Wineandchoccy working from home today then two days off and Friday is work Christmas lunch so a much quieter week compared to the weekend!!

@WhatALearningCurve I sent my maternity application to HR a few weeks ago and got mat B1 from midwife last week. So waiting on my confirmation of mat pay arrangements now!!

@BadBadBeans haha poor Dads do struggle shopping. We've done secret Santa with my family this year and dread to think what Dad will get any of us lol

@SquirtlesMumAgain good luck. I actually didn't mind GTT last week. I got no phone call yesterday so assuming all is normal!

@SquirtlesMumAgain good luck with the GTT today!

@ballanj thank you, all measuring ok. Measuring 27 weeks so just on the 50th percentile at 27+5. Midwife said she wasn't sure about the oven smell but probably wouldn't do any harm.. How did yours go? Did they tell you the position of baby? He's still head down with his bum in my middle. What I thought was his head sprising out of my belly must be his bum!

I haven't had many bump grabbers lately. It's been mostly close family if anyone has touched it and a couple of work colleagues but no strangers.

With regards to confirming when I'm finishing with work. It's finally been sorted so I'm finishing on 8th Feb at 35+1 and using my annual leave up to have maternity start on my due date. I'm then taking a year from then hopefully but I'll see how I feel once the money runs out!

I'm getting mightily fed up with this oven. We got it on Friday and still aren't able to use it as it's letting off a horrid smell when it's on. I've already washed it out and left it on a couple of hours 3 times today, as well as the other days previous to this and it's just not getting better. I rang their customer service who said it could take a week but I've already done a weeks worth of 'cooking' but with no food in it. She did say she didn't think it was harmful to baby but not sure if she's just saying that. It's really worrying me. I'm working from home as I have midwife today then bloods at the hospital tomorrow and even though I've shut myself away in the living room and have all the doors and windows open, the smell in the kitchen is horrible. If I don't so it while I'm at home then it'll only be able to be done once of an evening and getting slightly concerned I won't have an oven for Christmas! Has anyone else experienced this? Am I right to be worried about baby?

ballanj · 18/12/2018 14:39

@melissa112 28 week check all good. Was measuring exactly 28cm so slap bang in the middle growth wise so I'm obviously not as huge as I feel I am! Was told my haemoglobin levels were a bit lower than expected so I'm back on the pregnacare and been told to up my iron intake. I'm not surprised as my diet hasn't been great recently so need to work on having more leafy greens I think. Might explain the tiredness I've been feeling recently too.

I'm no medical expert but whilst the oven smells are probably really annoying, I doubt that they are doing the baby any harm. It sounds like a right royal pain though, especially so close to christmas. You say you've had the oven on several times, have you cooked any food in it at all? I was wondering if it starts getting used as it ought to, that the smell might naturally dissipate by itself in time? X

amyem · 18/12/2018 14:41

@WhatALearningCurve I have - I did it as soon as I got my MATB1 form as I was anxious about getting it all sorted and in place! xx

melissa112 · 18/12/2018 15:19

@ballanj that's good! Haha I'm the same, thought I was huge and measuring very slightly under by a few days. I forgot most people have their bloods at the appointment. Did you get the results straight away or had you already had the blood taken before that?

I really so hope the oven is nothing to worry about. I got a bit teary earlier at putting baby in harms way. We haven't cooked anything yet as I'm too scared to eat anything but OH isn't as bothered so he may cook something tomorrow after another day of burning it in. At this rate I'm thinking we may have to book a table somewhere for Christmas day! We have my step son over Christmas too so hoping it's ok for when he comes on Friday!
