Now that's all out of the way in the thread title we've all got to head down the "things can and will only get better now" ok?? All ailments stop and nothing but good things will befall us all.

Right.

mum2george · 09/07/2007 16:36

GillL, that explains it, we get 6 months full pay so thats not an issue, and I keep forgetting that not everyone enjoys their mat leave. Me, I couldn't wait to get out of the place and be at home.

Babylovesmuffins · 09/07/2007 16:38

Damn! Can't get that trailer to play on my work computer Annie. From the sounds of it I'm probably best avoiding that one as it may counteract the positive, calming effects of Hypnobirthing (Right, I'll shut-up about H'birthing from now on, promise...)

mum2george · 09/07/2007 16:43

BLM, please don't shut up about Hypnobirthing, I think its fascinating.

Annie75 · 09/07/2007 16:51

yep, I second that. Am trying the Maggie Howell/Natal hippotherapy cd several times a week. I think it's helpful just to have some visualisations up your sleeve. I always fall asleep before the cd is finished!

Met a woman on the weekend who'd had two kids before and had had a horrible experience then as she was induced and on her back. She's undergone hippotherapy and reckons it's completely taken away the fear of labour, which can only be A Good Thing.

kiteflying · 09/07/2007 17:01

Can I ask one thing of everyone on this thread seeing as we have been virtual friends for nearly eight months?

Please please please insist that you do NOT want to lie down on your back to give birth. Don't do it. Don't be intimidated by anyone. Just say no.

If you feel like lying down, lie on your side or preferably propped up on a beanbag.
Anything other than squishing your pelvis.

That's all. Just feeling a bit protective of everyone today.

Oh, and hypnotherapy is FAB.

Annie75 · 09/07/2007 17:14

I'll sign up to that one, Kite

My yoga teacher said that even for internal examinations in labour, you should lie on your left side. And don't let anyone interrupt you mid-contraction. They shouldn't be speaking to you then at all, as it disturbs your concentration and flow of oxytocin. And if you have to be continously monitored (though I'm kind of sceptical that's ever necessary as sonicaids do the job just as well) make sure they wire you up so you can be comfy (on all fours or your side). I'm of the opinion that we'll all remember our labours forever, whereas for the medical staff, we're just one of many, so we should say what we want and make sure we get it!

kiteflying · 09/07/2007 17:21

I think that thread on here that was highlighted by MN HQ as funny ha ha - the one about things said to you during labour, has many sad stories in it covered up by humour.

Annie, you have had the same advice we had from Janet B. I am so grateful to my 19 week pregnant self for signing up to yoga, Janet B and the rest. None of my early jitters have survived those classes.

JSer · 09/07/2007 17:24

Thanks for your advice everyone. and kite thanks for your words of wisdom!

i'm going 10 pin bowling in a bit for a friend's birthday - anyone tried it with a rather large bump before??? oh well i'll have an excuse for being crap! but how many jokes will there be about swallowing bowling balls i wonder

PS i've just discovered that mini twister ice creams that you get in 8-packs from the supermarket are REALLY MINI!!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 09/07/2007 17:28

Hi Ladies, been full of "flu" and to top it off ended up with an infections, still fighting it all off, still feeling like s%£t but feel like I'm getting there, Doctor has put me on some antibiotics so hopefully I'll be on full form again soon.

37 weeks on Friday cant wait as that means that my "Home Birth" window opens up. The scan! it went very well, placenta has moved out the way, I asked while there if they could check and put in my book weather or not baby is head down and a good weight so that I don't have to go back in (what would of been then) 10 days time just to check these things out, and she did bless, baby is head down, 6lb in weight as of last week, bloody "long legs" (been saying it for weeks now that LO has very long legs no one believed me) the femur is well above the top line were as everything else is either on or "just" above normal line, DS's loved seeing what they could of the baby, as baby's head was so far down that you could just see his/her mouth and tip of the nose, Bless.

MW came to see me this morning everything is fine baby head is well down, MW was pleased that all is looking great for the HB so I've now got the green light as of Friday, but she has told me when to and when not to go into labor due to her working on that day or not, as she really wants to be the one that delivers LO. Made a list this week of things I want to do before baby comes, IE dentist, hair and stuff, so hopefully fingers crossed, Friday comes, list done, feeling better and than go though this list "ways to start off labor" that the MW (I love my MW) has nicely given me! Been on my "birthing ball" very very comfortable and DH thinks it's funny,

I'm off to take some pain killers head is still banging, I'll tried and get back on later!

Oh bananabump, My DH has been haering them sounds too, nice to know I wasn't going mad, still think LO will end up poping his/her own waters at this rate!

kiteflying · 09/07/2007 17:31

Babymad - that is such good news and so so full of congratulations to you. Wow. Ready and firing!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 09/07/2007 17:37

kiteflying Thnaks

Annie75 · 09/07/2007 17:38

Babymad - that's a nice end to feeling poorly! V happy for you. Hope to be in same position as you soon (for home birth). Now remind me, were you told you were breech before?

And you've already done your nursery. You are all ready to be a mum now!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 09/07/2007 17:44

Been ready for a long time LOL, no it was the placenta that was in the way, abit low, but thats all fine now! I brought the last of the HB bits last week as MW gave us a list of things to get, IE, black bags, bucket, waterproof cover and so on, so yes ready but I cant help feeling now I've made a list of things to do BEFORE baby come that baby might just have other plans! LOL

tokentotty · 09/07/2007 17:52

Oh my God.....just hit me. Am going to be 36 weeks on Friday Is thinking about Babymad being 'good to go anytime now for homebirth' that's made me stop in my tracks!
Even for those of you due at the end of August - we're all bloody close now....

OP posts:
BabyMadandBIGbump · 09/07/2007 18:02

LOL tokentotty!

growingbagpuss · 09/07/2007 18:05

Such good news babymad!! Hurrah - my homebirth clock is ticking too..... 37 weeks next tuesday... have clearly told LO she can arrive anytime after that - my friend the M/W says she doesn't think I'll go to term..... I asked her if she was just being nice - and she replied she's never nice for the sake of t!!

Mind you, a couple mre walks down the hill and back should be enough to send me into labour!!

Bought big decorating plastic sheets today to protect front room floor. worked a treat last time, except they are a bit slippy!!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 09/07/2007 18:11

growingbagpuss Not one person I know (including my MW) thinks I will go to term neither, both my DS's were born in their 39th week, so hopeing for a 37/38 week for this LO!

Washersaurus · 09/07/2007 18:18

Aahh BabyMad am glad to hear your placenta has moved too - that is really good news

I am bit worried about all this talk of early labours - as I am due on the 1st; if LO arrives early will it mean I will be 'forced' to join the July thread ....

bananabump · 09/07/2007 18:26

Well, my dp has told the baby he isn't to arrive til at least next week as dp worked this weekend just gone and is really craving a lie in!

I hope he doesn't come early too to be honest, I'm so exhausted, I don't think I could take labour right now. I can't even muster up the energy to go make something for dinner. I'm wondering if it's cos I'm low on iron again, don't think the spatone I'm taking is doing much.

Great news by the way babymad, have you got some nice music/lighting set up for your homebirth? Gonna let the cat watch?

treacletart · 09/07/2007 18:27

My edd is 13th August, but because I'm not allowed a home-birth and if left to my own devices would be likely to give birth very very quickly, I'm going to be induced a little early. They're going to start checking me from 20th July (gulp!!!) but I'll fight against a very early induction. Blimey it's all very close isn't it?!

SweetyDarling · 09/07/2007 19:41

Wowzers Treacle - that's sooooo soon!!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 09/07/2007 19:51

bananabump got no fine details or requests keeping it very VERY simple, save disappointment that way too! Got no pets mind you sometimes it does seem like feeding time at the zoo!

Getting DH to sort out my lady garden tonight one less thing on my list, Dentist tomorrow and also having my hair done this week "cut and colour" so not only am I gong to be a new mum soon going to feel like a new woman by the end of the week .

Any one else got a "to do list" before baby comes!?

Washersaurus · 09/07/2007 20:03

OMG Treacle that is very soon

BabyMad; my 'to do list' has only got this far:

  1. Get hair cut
  2. Have sex with DH as much as possible before (a) baby arrives and we are too tired, (b) baby arrives and causes me damage, (c) baby arrives and my boobs swell up so much I can't bear for DH to even look at them never mind touch them
  3. Try to paint toe nails (This is just a personal challenge rather than an essential 'do')
  4. SLEEEEEEEEEEEEP Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Do you think I have missed something essential?? I'm not sure DH would be up for any serious 'lady gardening'

BabyMadandBIGbump · 09/07/2007 22:11

to do list!

  1. Dentist (tomorrow)
  2. lady garden (tonight)
  3. toe nails
  4. hair "cut and colour
  5. GET BETTER (dam flu)
  6. a few good nights sleep under my belt. and just a few bits of cleaning that I wont want to do when LO is here IE shampooing carpets! and so on
loler · 09/07/2007 23:22

I've got a question about the birth position - why does lying on your back squash your pelvis?

When I had dd I/she had shoulder dismorphia (sp?) - i.e. her shoulders were to big to get out. MW made me lie on side go on 4s, but it just felt right to lie on my back. Finally got her our with legs around arm pits in order to open pelvis (sorry if tmi!). All the classes I went to said to listen to your body and do what feels right.

I still feel like I've got ages to go - not at all prepared for a baby seeing the 20th july writen down makes it all seem really scarey!

Have just had pushchair delivered - walked past mothercare last week and saw it reduced. Am very happy with it - so clean and new - no raisons stuck to all parts yet!

Any of the breeches turned yet?
