Now that's all out of the way in the thread title we've all got to head down the "things can and will only get better now" ok?? All ailments stop and nothing but good things will befall us all.

Right.

Kite,

glad everything was Ok in the end.

Annie75 · 09/07/2007 11:13

Yay, Kite Glad all's well. And that there's a nice birthing place for you to go to. I came to the conclusion that the one near me looked like a Travel Lodge, though the staff seemed really lovely.

And yes, Muffins - pets are sooo expensive, aren't they? Reckon our dog and cat have cost more in recent vets bills than the baby stuff Am beginning to think am in the wrong job!

Have strong low back ache today - not great for sitting at a desk. Ooh, wonder if it's first signs...

SweetyDarling · 09/07/2007 11:16

Mrs Badger - that was me!! In the Courtyard enclosure near the start of end of the course! How funny!! I wasn't in the best of moods I have to say - did I look grumpy?
Kite - glad you are all OK. At least you got some info out of your visit.

conkertree · 09/07/2007 11:22

good to see everythings ok kite.

had really bad hip pain last night so dozed rather than slept - only 7 1/2 more days at work - yippee.

got a great bargain yesterday though - popped into john lewis to see if they could order the loola buggy we wanted in red cause had seen they only had black before. turned out they had one that had been sent in error when somebody ordered a black one, and it was reduced from 229 to 149 so we jumped at it. always nice to save yourself some money.

people keep telling me the baby had dropped but then somebody told me that a few weeks ago, and then said it had gone back up a few days later - i certianly havent noticed any difference - but it is funny how every twinge now makes you think - ooh could this be something?

packed our hospital bag last night to be on the safe side, and secodn parentcraft class tonight - its all getting exciting.

tokentotty · 09/07/2007 11:23

Hahahahah sweety and MrsB had the first August antenatal mn meet up and didn't even know it !
Kite, so relieved that all's well for you and moreover has seemingly caused a very beneficial outcome.
Right....back to attacking the west face of Mount Ironing. Will lurk later

Babylovesmuffins · 09/07/2007 11:34

Glad to hear you're ok Kite! I did check the birth announcements thread just in case

Conker that's a great bargain! It must have been meant especially for you. I've been told my bump's dropped as well - it's certainly got much bigger over the weekend!!

Uki and Annie I'm not sure what the vet did for £250... It was emergency out-of-hours treatment, so the initial consultation costs £140 then there were antibiotics and anti-inflammatories on top of that (oh, and his luxury overnight stay of course!!). The last 2 times he's been in scrapes the bills have run up into the £thousands - we thank our lucky stars that he's insured and we only have to pay £65 excess each time. Our own vet also called today to see if we wanted to bring him in for a check-up.... ££££££££££££££££££££££!!

WilhelminaLouiseBadger · 09/07/2007 11:37

ah, no, Sweety, we were in Remenham itself, not Rem Farm - must have been someone else in the green dress
Small world though, eh?

tokentotty · 09/07/2007 11:46

MrsB what thread have you got yourself involved in now.....??

OP posts:
SweetyDarling · 09/07/2007 11:50

Goodness MrsB, two pregnant, green clad ladies within a couple of hundred metres! Ah well, if she was gorgeous I'm happy for you to picture me as her! Was a lovely day, but I was simply not in the mood. Was wishing I was in the Stewards Enclosure - was hankering for a little more decorum. Drunken fools, my friends!

Anyone doing anything interesting today - I'm bored!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 09/07/2007 12:20

Hello Ladies

Im back from my Holiday and i would like to say that i rested and relaxed but no! we went to butlins and it was Soooooo busy, so much to do, my ds loved it, it was good fun but the first time all pg i had swollen feet but it was nice to get away with just the 3 of us before the Big day!!

i havent been able to read all the way back but glad that eveything is o.k with you Kyte!

Uki - sorry you have been feeling poorley, little better now i hope?

I have had enough yet and i am one of the end ones - still 6 weeks to go, i feel like i have been pg forever, does it sound selfish to say that i want to sit down with a nice bottle of red and be able to lay in bed for more than 30 mins without getting up having to pee all the time! oh well hopefully this time will fly by and one of us will drop soon!!!!!!!!

Babylovesmuffins · 09/07/2007 12:21

Had a funny moment in Hypnobirthing yesterday!! We were doing visualisation and had to imagine a kitchen with our favourite meal cooking etc etc. We were then asked to imagine a fat juicy lemon on a chopping board and we had to cut it in half, then raise it to our nose and smell it, then take a bite (when you're in a deep relaxed state it's amazing how real it seems and your mouth actually does seem to dry up!!). Anyway, when she did the feedback with us afterwards, she asked us all how we found it and DH said he was annoyed as he'd already cut his lemon into thin slices to go with the peppered steaks he was cooking - let's hope he obeys orders when I'm in labour, hahaha!!!

(Oh and we did the gripping the pencil thing TT - but I couldn't drop mine when she said to drop it).

Washersaurus · 09/07/2007 12:48

Phew, glad all is well Kite - you had us all guessing

Well I am feeling a bit more prepared today after DH finally got the baby stuff down from the loft. At least the poor mite will have somewhere to sleep now, even if we haven't yet sorted out a suitable buggy/pram.

It also seems that DS has settled himself into his new bed already, so the cotbed will be free for the new baby when we eventually need it. It is amazing, we only put the bed up so DS could get used to it gradually and so we didn't have to pressure him into moving beds at the last minute

GillL · 09/07/2007 13:21

Hello all. Glad you're ok kite.

Had an ok weekend. Went back to bed twice on Saturday. I didn't get much extra sleep but it was a nice rest. Dd fell down the stairs and now has bumps, bruises and scrapes all over her. Yesterday she opened a drawer in the kitchen, got distracted by something and proceeded to run into the corner of the drawer head first. And last night she fell out of bed while she was asleep. I checked on her in the early hours and somehow she had managed to crawl under the bed.

We went to see the bikes go past for the Tour de France yesterday. I guess it's something we'll never see again but they went past so fast that it really wasn't worth the effort.

I'm leaving work on Thursday lunchtime and can't wait. I'll then start all my tidying and cleaning. I can't say I have any kind of nesting instinct and never did with dd but I'm going to try my best to get the place sorted out.

I might get out of coming to work tomorrow. My car's in the garage and I've got a scan in the afternoon. It really won't be worth me coming into work for 2 hours and then leaving to get 2 buses, which will take over an hour.

JSer · 09/07/2007 13:44

Ooh Gill - you're poor DD - hope she's ok.

I'm sorry but I need to have a bit of a whinge. I still have 5 weeks of work left. Which is fine although I do find it hard to concentrate sometimes. I'm feeling really possessive about one of the projects I'm working on and have enjoyed researching and putting it together. It has to be finished by december and my mat cover has just been decided. I was talking to the person who would be doing as she jokingly said to me "Of course I'll not have time to do it". It doesn't really matter to her if the project is successful or not but to me it's my main project and it's going to be the main thing on my CV etc. I'm just worried she's going to f* up all the hard work i've done leaving a mediocre end product with my name attached to it . i know it's not a big deal really and i'm sure as soon as my LO arrives i'll not give work a second thought. it's just frustrating as I raised my doubts about this person doing it previously but my manager thinks she's the best choice. I just know she's going to palm it off onto her inexperienced staff.
Does anyone feel possessive over their work? I know my priorities will change but my work is important to me as i enjoy it and get a lot out of it...
Sorry to moan - I know there's lots of people out there with worse problems than me - i think i'm a born worrier coz of course then i start worrying about stress affecting the baby - aaargh!!

katybird · 09/07/2007 14:15

Hi everyone, just caught up with all the posts from the weekend. Kite, I hadn't realised you'd had a visit to the mw on Friday, if you were wondering why I hadn't mentioned it at yoga! Glad you're ok.

My feet also swelled for the first time this weekend, I thought I'd escaped it. I didn't help the situation by dancing at my friend's wedding reception on Saturday night then walking the length of Oxford Street looking for a cab, but we live and learn! Got very irate when MacDonalds wouldn't let me use their loo (apparently they're not licensed after 11 and if a policeman had seen they'd have got in trouble...).

I don't think you're silly for worrying about work JSer, it makes sense to ensure the person who takes over your project is just as committed. I'm in a similar situation here, my mat cover will be taking over a project that no one else in the office knows about so I've got to make sure she knows what she's doing because there's no one who can help her if she doesn't! But I do think that once you've had the LO you'll have plenty of other stuff to worry about, and work won't seem so important! It's hard to let go but you will.

GillL, hope your dd is ok, she's been in the wars this weekend hasn't she?

bananabump · 09/07/2007 14:30

Hi guys, kite- glad to hear everything's ok, I did wonder if you only had access to the web at work!

I have a bit of a TMI problem going on at the moment... I thought I'd had a lucky escape after all the talk of porno flaps, as mine hadn't changed in size or any other respect but now in a final act of defiance it has started stinging/throbbing and I'm beginning to suspect (oh no)it may be a vulval varicose vein.

As if I'm not enough of an enormous lumbering creaky hippo right now, I'm also going to have a veiny ladygarden. Fan-bloody-tastic.

What's next, a touch of leprosy perhaps? a bit of dysentry? ooh, how about a nice big boil right in the middle of my nose, that'd be lovely...

GillL · 09/07/2007 14:32

Dd's fine, thanks.

Jser - I totally know where you're coming from with mat cover. It's understandable that you'd be worried when you've put everything into your project and you have to hand over to someone who couldn't care less. I've worked really hard to get my team running well and it's difficult to transfer all of that knowledge over in 4 weeks. I'm so worried about what I'll come back to in November.

JSer · 09/07/2007 14:48

Wow Gill are you going back to work in November?..2007?

kiteflying · 09/07/2007 15:11

Jser, you should establish whether your cover really was joking and if you are still worried talk to your manager again. It will be seen as a sign that you are still the dedicated individual you obviously are, and will at least let you feel you have done everything you could. After that, stop worrying and remember that other project you have taken on that is going to be so much more enthralling...

growingbagpuss · 09/07/2007 15:28

Bananabump- I have a few of those and they throb, and ache, and sometimes it feels like everything is about to fall out.

My best remedy is a thin panytiner and tight fitting pants - seems to hold things in a bit.. aaah that and support tights.. which, as i have boringly mentioned before ARE a bit of a pashion killer - but hey who's up for pashion at 8 months pg?!!

If they sting, try some arnica cream, it just helps enough that you can recover a bit. mine go hrough phases where I can hardly sit down.

Do you find if you've been sitting a while and then stand up that they sting v badly then?
You have my sympathies.

Annie75 · 09/07/2007 16:03

I'm gonna have a moan too. Got terrible lower back ache - just like when you're coming down with the flu Better not be. Can't sit still at work without fidgeting either cos I can't get comfy. And loads to do .

Banana - saw some gel-filled thingys you can use after the baby is born in your knickers on the NCT website. Might come in handy right now if they're sore. I remember my sis-in-law getting them when she was pregnant. She ran into the room crying, telling me she thought she had genital warts and how awful to find out now, just as she was close to giving birth! Needless to say, doc said they were varicose veins. You'd think we'd have a better design, wouldn't you?!

Annie75 · 09/07/2007 16:13

Ooh, just noticed promo for something at 9pm - a new prog all about how the body reacts to illness etc. First one is about birth - not sure whether it's wise to watch or not...

www.bbc.co.uk/health/tv_and_radio/fightforlife_index.shtml

Actually, just watched the trailer. Has annoying narrator saying stuff like, 'if she gets stuck, they both die'. Gee, thanks, Mr Voiceover. Also, 'Lily's birth is as natural as it can be'. Er, so why was the mum on her back pushing?? Argh, why are they still leaving mums to labour on their back? Makes me want to grit my teeth just watching.

The mum has got an amazing pattern of stretchmarks across her stomach. Sort of pretty in a way.

Babylovesmuffins · 09/07/2007 16:15

Banana and Bagpuss I think I have the same problem - just in the last couple of weeks I've had a bit of pain round the fanjo and I think it could be veins... Bloody sore. As if we don't have enough to contend with!

mum2george · 09/07/2007 16:21

Kite, so glad to hear that you are ok. How you are supposed to "just know" that you should have appts has always been a mystery to me too

GillL, how come you are going back to work in Nov? I'm already on Mat Leave and not due back until Easter.

DS has had an hour in bed this afternoon so I'm feeling a bit more refreshed. Honestly, I could go to bed and get up on Weds!

Oh, Bananabump, your Mat Hospital was obviously designed by a MAN!

GillL · 09/07/2007 16:26

Hi Jser - yes I'm going back in the last week of November. We can't afford for me to take too much time off. Also, I remember the cabin fever I got when at home with dd. After 4 months I couldn't wait to get back to work. Although I'll have a toddler to keep me company so I may feel differently this time.
