Now that's all out of the way in the thread title we've all got to head down the "things can and will only get better now" ok?? All ailments stop and nothing but good things will befall us all.

Right.

I don't think i could put it into words - it is like really bad p pains - but it takes over your whole body, and breathing, and thinking.

This is why the breathing excercises work so well - you have to really concentrate and it diverts you away from the pain!

But... let me assure you - IT STOPS! IT goes - for me - just like that.. as soon as DS popped () out it stopped. I had to catch my breath, and after pains were bad (but that was my crappy back muscles) - but it goes.

bananabump · 28/06/2007 14:36

My midife didn't really go into breathing excercises much, she pretty much just said "imagine you're blowing out the candles on a cake at the top of a hill" or some crap.

Maybe I can read more online about breathing excercises.

lizziemun · 28/06/2007 14:48

bananabump

When i went anti-natal classes last time, she said that she wasn't going to bother with teaching us to breath as we had all managed up to now she was sure we wouldn't forget when in labour.

growingbagpuss · 28/06/2007 14:49

i guess its not really excercise - just regulate your breathing - its very easy to hyper ventilate, or simply panic. If you really focus on breathing in and out actively, it does give you something to concentrate on.... doesnt' really stop it hurting mind.......

Hi everyone, happy birthday TT!

Jealous of everyone who's leaving work soon, I've got another 5 weeks to go. And I just found out there's no crossover period with the woman who's taking over, so I'm going to have to try and hand over everything in two half-day sessions. Great.

The breathing we do at yoga is basically breathe in through your nose, deep into your abdomen (so your belly inflates when you breathe in), then out slowly through your mouth, the slower the better.

Annie - I read somewhere that there may be less movement from now on because the baby has less room to wriggle about, but as long as you're still feeling movement don't worry.

GillL · 28/06/2007 17:44

Thanks for the info about the GTT and home birth. I saw a doctor at the hospital today (having waited for almost an hour and a half on a very uncomfortable chair which killed my back) and she said that even though the belly is bigger than normal, the overall size wouldn't cause any risk for a home birth.

banana - I think I was about 6 or 7lb. Dd was only 6lb 9oz.

growingbagpuss - yes I'm in Kent. All the midwives and doctors I've seen have been very pro home births. The hospital is about 10 mins away in good traffic. My mum and nan both have underactive thyroids so I guess it probably is genetic.

Happy birthday TT. I hope you have a good day. V jealous of you being on mat leave now. I've still got just under 2 weeks left.

growingbagpuss · 28/06/2007 19:27

GillL - that's great news about the homebirth! we'll all keep fingers crossed for you!

treacletart · 28/06/2007 19:39

Hi all - haven't posted for ages, nothing strange or startling to report... getting a little aprehensive about the birth. DS was very very fast unplanned home birth and although I'd love another home birth, I'm not allowed for boring medical reasons (had lung clots a few weeks after DS's birth). So upshot is, to gurantee I'm in the right place at the right time, I'm going to be induced, probably pre-term, with a couple of days warning so I can come off blood thinning drugs, but epidurals are contraindicated too - so basically they're going to muck about with the process and then leave me to my own devices - cheers! . Id be feeling pretty confident were it not for the induction bit. My overwhelming memory of the pain last time around was how much it hurt, felt like being cut in 2, BUT how very dealable with it was - hope that makes sense - almost like there's a rational part of you commenting on how the subconscious part is getting on with it. Sorry, very difficult to explain but it's quite positive honestly!

Also, IMO, breathing really does help with the pain. I don't think things hurt so much when you breathe out, that's why a long controlled out breath (most of mine took the form of weird primeval power screams incidentally!) can be very helpful.

Ceolas · 28/06/2007 22:07

Had my 32 week appt today then spent the rest of the afternoon at the CMU having my BP monitored. It wasn't startlingly high, but higher than it had been. Also had a trace of protein in urine.

Anyway all fine in the end. Had bloods done and possibly nursing an infection. BP was fine on average of five readings taken.

The other revelation of the afternoon is that baby is possibly breech. Nobody overly concerned at this stage but I have to go back for a scan at 36 weeks. Need to read up on positioning and really go for it!

tokentotty · 29/06/2007 08:03

Good morning all. Thank you soooo much for all your lovely birthday wishes for yesterday. Had the most insane day so couldn't get on here. Hectic doesn't even begin to cover it. Up at 6.30 for pressies with DH (Whole day at a spa in Essex somewhere on a special 'expectant mother' pampering day, and THE most fabulous picnic rucksack with all the glasses and plates in etc and matching wheelie cool bag for those forthcoming family days out!) then got to work and my replacement started. Poor, poor woman. I collected her just after 9.30 and then had to run off for two hours at 10am to the baby first aid course work were running. Came back and hopefully taught her some things before dashing off at 2pm to get my hair done! Then a mad scramble to get everything else explained before my incredibly embarrassing gift presentation... My cheek must have gone up about a zillion degrees in temperature at all the people standing round my desk. Got lovely gifts though. John Lewis, Boots, Baby Gap, Space NK vouchers plus some stuff from baby Gap (sale on there apparently and lovely bits in it so get down there!!). Then finally got out of the office gone six to go to my leaving drinks. Managed to stay out 'til 9pm but was nearly in tears by the time I got home due to my feet hurting so much, my ankles having swollen up and my bump killing me. Then ended up sitting up 'til about 11.30pm with DH and the groom, best man and ushers for today's wedding who all stayed over.
Have now got rid of them all and going to get ready to go to see the consultant at 9am. Will be asking all about the excess fluid thing and what it can mean so I'll let you know when I come back.
Sorry, really gone on here - hope your day was lovely too BLM !!! And yup, there's deffo a few of us lovely cancerians on this thread !!

Hello all, TT how do you do a day like that, I'd be a crumbled wreck. Happy birthday. I've got a week left at work, hurray. Looking forward to some extra sleep soon. Yesterday 4 separate people said stuff like "not long left for you" or "there's a baby ready to come out". GGGGGGRRRRRR. Wanted to say no, actually I've still got 7 and a bit weeks left, but felt a bit embarrassed. Did tell a woman at a service station the other week that no, actually, I'm only 15 weeks.

tokentotty · 29/06/2007 08:39

Believe me Boobooma, I couldn't face that ever again ! Although having said that, no idea how I'm going to get these poor hurting feet of mine shoe-horned into some decent shoes for today's wedding.... Have already told DH that I can see myself disappearing home for a few hours snooze after the meal and coming back to pick up the drunken remnants later on.
Know what you mean about the comments. Have had them throughout. To the point where I wanted to make up flashcard signs saying "Yes, I KNOW I'm big", "No it isn't twins" etc etc...

Babylovesmuffins · 29/06/2007 09:28

TT I feel like going and having a nice long sleep after reading about your exploits yesterday! Sounds exhausting! Glad you had a good day.

I had a nice day too thanks. Opened all my cards and pressies in the morning then had a busy day at work. DH made me a nice dinner last night and I even had a birthday cake complete with candles. DH had very kindly just put 2 candles on - any more and I think I would have struggled to blow them out given the current squashed state of my lungs.

itchyncsratchy · 29/06/2007 10:55

Hi everyone and happy Birthday babyloves, jeez TT take it easy luv!
Seriously I have been a bit manic lately, the hotel/restaurant business means early mornings and late nights and I just can't get the hang of afternoon naps but yesterday I just flaked out..
Does anyone else have incredibly heavy feeling legs? I really notice it when I tryto bend down.
I called the Dr yesterday to get more info on the excess fluid, it doesn't look like a problem for babe as they could see on scan her stomach and bladder were functioning properly and she doesn't seem oversized. I'm booked in for another GTT next Thurs but Dr hopes it's just fluctuating sugar levels, I do admit I switched to Ribena over plain water and I've gotten complacent about snacking on biscuits. So hopefully it'll sort itself out. I'll get another scan too. I'm sure I read yesterday that someone's babe turned from breech to 'right way up' in 5 mins. Was that on this thread? I can't beieve it really seems like LO has been lying across for weeks.
Aghhh - I'm soo over people acting shocked that the baby's not due for another 8 weeks. I think because I'm only 5'2" and WAS quite slim it's a surprise to see my enormous bump. But I feel like such a circus freak sometimes. I thought it would be nothing out of the ordinary to be pregnant in Africa but to be honst I'm totally bloody sick of strangers pointing and laughing and saying stupid things to me. I can't even go to the market without dp now or else I'm reduced to angry tears. One more week till I get on the plane for sunny Edinburgh!!

Annie75 · 29/06/2007 11:11

Happy bday for yesterday too, Muffins! I hadn't twigged it was your bday as well. Blimey. Mine next week - it's good to be a summer bday, as our nippers will find out!

TT - you sound as though you had an excellent day and a v good pressie haul! Good luck with the consultant. I've got my last (hopefully) scan on Monday.

Annie75 · 29/06/2007 11:12

PS anyone heard from the Badger recently? I can't see any postings from her...

Babylovesmuffins · 29/06/2007 11:16

Hi Itchy. Bet you can't wait to finish up at work and get over here! I've started to get slightly swollen feet and my rings are really tight on my finger now, so I'm guessing that my hands must be swelling up too. Like you I'm trying to stay off the sugary stuff at the moment after my urine and blood tests this week showed a higher level of glucose than normal... I've got to go back to the m/w for a 34-wk appointment in 2 weeks time, so I should get the latest blood results then, unless there's a problem in which case I'll probably get a letter. (Didn't stop me from a nice big slice of chocolate b'day cake last night through !!)

Also like you, my LO was lying diagonally across me at this week's appointment but the m/w seemed very relaxed about him/her turning, so fingers crossed.

Babylovesmuffins · 29/06/2007 11:21

Thanks Annie. Wow, lots of Cancerians! I wonder if there's a link there... Are you a 1975 baby too?? (just guessing from your nickname)

I think MrsB was off to Central Parks on hol but not sure how long for. Didn't she say that her parents were treating them to a getaway?? Sorry... can't remember very well. Not seen her on here for a while though.

littleyawner · 29/06/2007 11:23

Hi,

I have just discovered this thread. I am due on 6/8.

It's nice to read everyone is experiencing similar problems. I don't feel like so much of a freak !!!!!!!!!!

It's my last day at work today, 3 weeks leave and then start ML.

I spotted the bit about contractions what contractions feel like from yesterday. That a bit scary I thought it was just wind !!!

itchyncsratchy · 29/06/2007 11:34

Hi Babyloves, make sure you put your feet up at any opportunity. I'm terrified of the swelling, can't even consider being told I can't fly. The DR's advice was to lie down instead of sitting whenever practical as sitting and standing are not good, to try to walk about a bit and sleep as much as possible. Drink lots of water and pee a lot.
Do you think LO's will really turn completely? I just can't imagine it. I can see her turning left and right but can't believe she'll manage to turn all the way around. Do you have a really tight, hard, stretched bump?

Annie75 · 29/06/2007 11:45

I am indeedy. Are you a 75 baby too?! Not a very imaginative username, I admit - I was just testing out the boards to see if I liked 'em and have stayed ever since!

Ah yes, I'd forgotten MrsB was off on a hol. Pregnancy brain... Just starting to panic on behalf of other people now we're all getting closer to August.

Welcome Littleyawner and congrats on being another August mum-to-be!

itchyncsratchy · 29/06/2007 11:45

welcome littleyawner!
with my ds1 contractions started strong 3 mins apart and he was born within 5 hours. My dp wanted me to try an sleep! I think when the time comes you know it's time to go!

Babylovesmuffins · 29/06/2007 11:46

Welcome Littleyawner. Enjoy your last day at work! I still have 3 weeks to go...

littleyawner · 29/06/2007 11:54

I must say I use the term work loosely !!!!

for the last few weeks I seem to have spent most time on Mumsnet or staring blankly into space. Honestly, I considered myself to be a reasonably intelligent human being before I got pg but now my brain is just cotton wool.

Generally my pg has been fine. I had some erosion about 3 weeks ago which gave me a bit of a scare but i'm fine now. Now my main problem is my pelvis, don't think its spd it just lets me know when I am over doing things.

bananabump · 29/06/2007 11:59

Welcome littleyawner

Happy birthday for yesterday BLM, somehow I didn't realise it was your birthday too! Hope you had a lovely day.

TT god your day sounded a bit manic, made me tired just reading it!

I now officially have two pairs of trousers that actually fit. I think I'm going to have to cave and buy at least one more pair of something comfy before I have him, I can't survive with just two pairs! Seems daft buying something that's only going to be used for 5 weeks though.
