Now that's all out of the way in the thread title we've all got to head down the "things can and will only get better now" ok?? All ailments stop and nothing but good things will befall us all.

Right.

OP posts:

kiteflying · 27/06/2007 18:48

I on the other hand am freezing all the time. Waking up cold, dressing as though it is March (well it is, isn't it?) and cold in my office where everyone else seems happy in short sleeves.

Odd.

Great news TT on the placenta moving up, but crossed fingers on the amniotic fluid issue. Surely it can't be anything serious at this stage?

Even better news that you finish up at work tomorrow. Yay you. Does this mean you will settle happily into RL and we won't hear from you until the big announcement?

My health food shop sells all manner of arnica. I am checking the Helios kit supply's strength and topping up on that in a larger bottle. It is a little local health food store but I know H&B stock as well. Mine tends to favour the less generic brands.

Was worried last night as after one of LO's massive "let's see how far this belly can twist" moves (SO delightful), I seemed to get all the scrabbling kicking sensations down in the area closest to her exit route. God help me if after all this time of happily being head down she has gone into breech for the last two months. I also had period type pains all night in the same region and put it down to my on/off SPD pain but could this be Braxton Hicks? She hasn't moved much today. Hopefully she finds this new position too boring and goes back to her previous favourite LOL.
Desperately trying not to slouch at my desk today...

lizziemun · 27/06/2007 18:59

kiteflying

With Braxton Hicks your whole bump(well mine) goes rock hard and is realy uncomfortable.

kiteflying · 27/06/2007 19:00

Thanks lizzie - how are you feeling now? Still bruised?

lizziemun · 27/06/2007 20:03

kiteflying

Yes very, i have one black swollen ankle, which i can't stand or walk on for long and on the other leg a bruised knee.

I am constanly telling dd (3 1/2 yrs) that i can not crawl around the floor playing with her.

GillL · 27/06/2007 21:11

Hello. Sorry to hear about the sleepless nights. I wake up normally twice a night to go to the toilet. Last night dd woke me up at 1:30 shouting mummy but weirdly she wasn't awake when I went to her room. She woke me up again at 3:30 wanting a bottle of milk. Then I was up 6 to go to the toilet. Roll of 12th July which is my last day. At least I might have some chance of a lay in some days.

I had my second growth scan today (due to underactive thyroid). The sonographer started by saying the baby should be around 4lbs at the moment. Once she had done the measurements she calculated that it is actually around 4lb 15oz!! Apparently the tummy is on the 90th percentile even though all other measurements are about average. I'm a bit worried this will mean that I don't get to have my home birth. It definitely means I won't be signed back over to the midwife when I see the consultant tomorrow - rubbish! I've got to have yet another scan on 10th July to check the growth again. If the tummy is over the 90th percentile then I'll have to have a glucose tolerance test. I know some of you have had one of these. What does it mean is wrong? What does it involve?

bananabump · 27/06/2007 21:43

Gill, about the GTT: If your baby is showing as bigger than anticipated, the first medical reason they will suspect is gestational diabetes.

That's what the GTT tests for, and it basically involves you going into hsopital, having a blood test to see what your normal blood glucose level is, then they will ask you to drink 100ml of original lucozade (in some hospitals they seem to give glucose in water) leave you for two hours, then take some more blood and test it to see how you've processed the glucose.

But I wouldn't worry too much, some people simply have bigger babies than others, without there being a problem. They do say that your own birth weight can influence the baby's weight, were you a particularly large baby?

Ceolas · 27/06/2007 23:51

I had a GTT at 28 weeks. Just because last baby was big. As bananabump says, often gestational diabetes is suspected if baby is big for dates.

Have a look at homebirth.org on diabetes if you're hoping for a homebirth. It's a fab site for any questions about homebirth. As is the Yahoo HomebirthUK group.

growingbagpuss · 28/06/2007 08:52

Gilll - you're in Kent aren't you? where in Kent? I know my local midwives are keen to support homebirths as long as you only have 1 risk factor.... if yours is an underactive thyroid, and the babe is measuring average -I would have thought that you'll be fine.

Get the consultants to be v clear about what exactly they think is the risk - and badger your midwife. Are you fairly close to a hospital?

Can underactive thyroids run in the family? I suppose that might worry them? But I wold have thought they'd have covered that base by now...?!!

itchyncsratchy · 28/06/2007 09:15

Hi all,

I'm sure I'm sleeping at night but I'm waking up feeling more tired than when I went to sleep so...yawn yawn.

TokenTotty- I was also told I had too much fluid, but not really explained well what this means and how much I should worry. LO is breech, well transverse. Lying horizontally/ diagonally across with head on right side. I suspected as much as when she turns i have a huge hard bulge and the kicks are all in the groin/ bladder. Lovely.

Did you get any more information on causes/ probs of excess fluid? My Dr mentioned gestational diabetes and kidney probs but didn't see any indication of either. I was told to go back for another scan at next week at 33 wks and for check up before I fly to UK.

Babylovesmuffins · 28/06/2007 09:43

Morning all. Happy Birthday TT!! Hope you got some nice pressies. I got a lurverly glider chair from DH and it's soooooo comfortable, I nearly fell asleep in it last night. Great to hear your placenta has moved and very jealous that you finish work today Still another 3 weeks to go here...

Hope everyone else doing well. I'm much chirpier today having had some proper sleep for a change (I've discovered that if I don't go to bed too early, I can actually sleep right through without getting up through the night...).

Had to give more blood again at 32-wk appointment as my glucose levels in my urine and also my last blood tests were quite high... hope it's nothing to worry about. I tried to convince the m/w it was because I'd eaten so much fruit that morning...... but I have refrained from eating any chocolate so far...

kiteflying · 28/06/2007 09:48

I must have known it was peoples' birthdays today - I dreamt I was eating chocolate cake all night! Happy Birthday!

itchyncsratchy · 28/06/2007 10:12

OOh Happy Birthday TT!! and hello kite and babyloves
Are you feeling good today?

growingbagpuss · 28/06/2007 10:31

Happy Birthday TT

the sun is shining here in celebration!

Enjoy yourself.
xxx

It's taking me a long time to wake up today - everytime I walk up or down the stairs, I have to sit down for 10 minutes to recover. my maternity t shirts don't fit, my troussers are too tight, and even DH's jumpers are straining a bit over my tummy.

Roll on August... or even late July if I'm lucky........

Hersetta · 28/06/2007 10:37

Happy birthday TT !!

Hope you have a good one.

Annie75 · 28/06/2007 11:36

Morning all Am desperately trying to do all my handover stuff in the next three weeks so am having to get a wriggle on with work .

TT - good news about the placenta and happy birthday! A fellow Cancerian. Whatcha doing to celebrate?

Gill - I'd read up a bit about the weight thing on the homebirth site Creole recommended - it seems it's hard to accurately predict birth weight and that having a baby which might be a bit larger shouldn't preclude a home birth.

My baby's been dead quiet the last day or so - has gone from wriggling loads to just two bouts of hiccups. Still, i guess if i'm still feeling the hiccups then it's all okay...

lizziemun · 28/06/2007 12:38

Annie75

mine bump been the same, very quite until i have a hot bath or go to bed. During the day i just have the occassional kick.

Happy birthday tt, i hope you have a nice day.

conkertree · 28/06/2007 13:09

happy birthday tt

hope you all slept well last night.

had the midwife today - head's not engaged yet cause she could wiggle it about, but its in the right place so will try and keep leaning forward on the birth ball etc.

am very jealous of all of you who are finishing work very soon - still have three weeks to go, and people are off on holiday so its going to be a crazy three weeks. think i will shut my office door and take the phone off the hook some days.

bananabump · 28/06/2007 13:25

Happy Birthday TT, hope you have a lovely day.

No-one's mentioned engagement yet to me, how do they check that? And is it important yet?

growingbagpuss · 28/06/2007 13:40

Nah - i wouldn't worry B-Bump - when are u due? It's one of those useless bits of info that gets you all excited - DS was2/5 engaged about a month b4 he was born - i thought it meant he would come early - it means nothing. for 2nd babes apparently, the head may not fully engage until birtth!

conkertree · 28/06/2007 13:41

she just checked by feeling round the bump, then getting me to breathe in deeply and slowly breathe out and she sort of held the bit of my tummy towards the bottom and wiggled it - she said if you can wiggle the head it means its not engaged yet.

she said it could have been partially engaged by now (i'm a first timer), but it doesnt matter yet (i'm 35 weeks) - she would be looking for it to be engaged by my next appointment which isnt till 38 weeks - so much for an appointment every week after 35 weeks.

was slightly hoping it might have started engaging cause would be so nice if it was early rather than late - but think its probably inevitable that it will be 2 weeks late given that dh goes on his trip to zambia at the end of august (although i dont know if an early engager necessarily comes early anyway)

bananabump · 28/06/2007 13:47

I'm due august the 4th, so 34+5 today. I have a midwife appointment in two weeks and a growth/position scan and consultant appointment at 38 weeks so I'll see if they mention anything then.

The baby headbutted my cervix the other night (I think he was attempting to straighten his legs underneath him) and it really hurt. Is that what labour is like? lol

growingbagpuss · 28/06/2007 14:25

oh no - labour is much worse!

but.... better in a way coz you know your LO is finally on the way -you know the pain has a purpose, and yo know it will end.

bananabump · 28/06/2007 14:29

Someone was describing contractions on here the other day, it made me get a bit apprehensive I must admit. She said something to the effect of:

They're like really horrible painful period pains, or that moment just before you have diarrhea. At the peak of a contraction it's like biting down on an abscessed tooth.

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. In fact I think I've changed my mind...
