Good luck LittleRay, I hope it goes well and allays your fears.

Had my booking in appt this morning so am officially in the system, yay! As I'm having the Harmony Test with scans at 10 and 12 weeks my first NHS one will be at 20 weeks as there's no point in duplicating. Next midwife appt at the beginning of Jan and now waiting for my initial consultant appt at the hospital. All good!

Fabuluce · 08/11/2018 11:56

livingonapear yep I had this with my son. I come from a long line of 2 weeks overdue-ers but they refuse to take that into account. It's more than frustrating, especially when some recent info said the rise in csections in the UK is due to older, overweight mothers. I disagree. I think it's due to consultants bullying their patients into induction when their babies aren't ready because of their statistics (when pushed most of the consultants we spoke to had no evidence to back up their stats). I won't tell you the trials and tribulations of my birth (now is not the time for that kind of chat) but I'd done extensive reading on it and what I didn't want to do was to get on the induction escalation of intervention ladder but I was left with what I felt was no choice. So I was induced and everything I thought would probably happen did because my baby wasn't ready and I ended up a statistic with an EMCS. This time I'm going to aim for a ECS with the proviso that if I go into labour naturally then I'll go for a VBAC. Apparently 6 dates a day in the last few weeks of pregnancy can ripen the cervix. I can only hope!!!

Date info nutritionfacts.org/video/best-food-for-labor-and-delivery/

LivingOnAPear · 08/11/2018 12:31

@Fabuluce. It’s so annoying isn’t it. Especially when they are inducing because they are following a flow chart rather than taking health into account.

I had a bit of pressure to be induced last time but refused particularly as the due date they gave me was really early. Then labour started naturally at 14 days over using their dates and she took 2 days to come out. She was only 12 days late using ovulation and early scan dates. I’m hoping not to be as overdue this time and am going to do all the things. Spinning babies, reflexology, homeopathy and constantly tweaking my nipples and shagging whilst eating dates and pineapple.

toomanyflatwhites · 08/11/2018 13:09

My nutritional brilliance is reaching new heights this week. Just had my first job-motorway macdonalds of my adult life (and even the travel-related ones have been incredibly rare) and my god it was good!! I fear a new lunchtime favourite 😳 although who knows what I'll feel like afterwards as I seem to have a constant burning at the back of my throat since the start of this week.
Am commiserating though as DD was awake between 2 & 4am so am at work feeling wrecked, and DP says we need to do sleep training tonight - yeah right, as if it works like that with a 2.5 year old who wants to sleep in our bed...what he means is he wants me to magically fix her sleep by sitting up/dealing with dramas while he gets a good 8 hours - MEN!!!

Reastiepeace · 08/11/2018 13:17

Thank you sass, that’s so lovely. I’m in the SE. We have booked a trip to Harry potter studios as well for dds Christmas present. When’s yours booked for? Ours is New Year’s Eve but I’m pretty certain I won’t be able to go as last time when I was pg I literally didn’t leave the house until 20 weeks. I’m so miserable I might miss it (dh will still go with dd). I guess I’ll have to book and go again another time with dd. I also have a concert booked for next month I think I’ll have to cancel that. I hope I can sell the ticket as it cost over £200 Shock . I’m glad I’ve wrapped up most of my Christmas presents already so I don’t have to think about that at least. And people laugh at me for being so organised! It’s certainly worked in my favour this year!

Pear try to stay positive about birth. It must feel really disappointing but they’re doing it to try to keep you and the baby as healthy and safe as possible. Although I was a bit Shock as 40s not old! I thought they had got more laid back about mothers 40 and over now it’s very common. Can you refuse or is it non optional policy in your area? I was induced last time at 40 weeks because of suspected gd and i remember I don’t think there was an option not to be induced.

Fabuluce · 08/11/2018 13:30

Actually they can't MAKE you do anything. Your birth is your choice and everything that happens is up to you but it's very easy to feel pressured into doing things. We found the best thing was for us to be really clued up on all the possible options prior to any meetings and during birth to remember to follow the BRAIN acronym www.motherrisingbirth.com/2016/02/brain-acronym.html as that helped us feel in control of the birth. It's understandable from the HCP point of view that they've done everything a thousand times and know best but this birth will have an impact on the rest of your life so it's really good for your mental health to feel like you are control too!

Reastiepeace · 08/11/2018 13:50

That’s really interesting fab. I never felt at any point I had a choice in whether I would have an induction as it was put to me that I didn’t have any options. The one time I went against advice was in refusing the gtt as I felt so sick and I knew the test would make me feel terrible amdnprobably make me sick drinking the sugary solution which would invalidate the test anyway. I was told by a nurse that I was making a selfish decision as there were risks associated with gd and by not accepting the test I was risking myself and my baby. In the end I was happy being treated as if I had gd and this was preferable to me to taking the gtt but I was met by huge rudeness and scaremongering from the medical profession. They definitely like things done in a certain way and don’t appreciate anything that deviates.

Napssavelives · 08/11/2018 13:52

All looking good here! Heartbeat seen, so relieved!

sk17 · 08/11/2018 14:09

Just caught up with this thread and started crying for @Peanut1980 and @SpunBodgeSquarepants. I am so sorry for both your losses. Please stay strong and I hope things get better for you soon Sad

Been getting so scared lately. Every small thing is making me paranoid. Suffering from a cold right now and started crying cos I am worried about how this can affect the baby Sad

Fabuluce · 08/11/2018 14:25

Reastie I know exactly what you mean and I did feel like that with being induced - i was between a rock and hard place: induce and be pretty much guaranteed a horrible labour with all the interventions followed by CS and utter exhaustion so starting motherhood on minus levels of energy or run the risk of stillbirth because of the increased risks in woman over 40 going over 40 weeks. All the blurb says the risks double which is correct. From 1:1000 to 2:1000 births. It's pretty low but who wants to run the risk?? The alternative to induction is to go in to hospital every day to be monitored. Which when you're that pregnant feels pretty tough too, let alone this time when I'd have a toddler in tow. But it is possible. It's tough though and I believe you have to do what YOU feel is right along with guidance from the professionals.

Fabuluce · 08/11/2018 14:26

Naps - phew and hurrah!

Kescilly · 08/11/2018 14:39

@sk17 honestly I'm terrified too, because I got sick early on and it affected my asthma. But I don't have control over it and what's done is done. So I just have to hope for the best. I think if you don't have underlying conditions and if you weren't severely ill (needing hospitalization, that sort of thing), there is probably a low risk of damage.

jacquejacque · 08/11/2018 14:46

@Napssavelives Hoorah!!! Wonderful news ♥️

@sk17 you and me both my love. Paranoia city over here!

sk17 · 08/11/2018 15:05

@Kescilly Aw I remember reading you were ill a few days back. How are you feeling now? That's a relief to know but still can't shake the paranoia.
I have asthma too but surprisingly hasn't flared up since pregnancy.

@jacquejacque Funny thing is I was really positive minded and DH was the one that would worry and every symptom I felt. But now reading about others mc and hearing stories has really scared the crap out of me Sad. At least we aren't alone in feeling this way! Hope everything goes well for you and everyone [happy]

sk17 · 08/11/2018 15:06

LOL still new to this. I guess [happy] isn't a smiley Blush

toomanyflatwhites · 08/11/2018 15:45

@Napssavelives amazing! Hope you are feeling suitably relieved.
And @sk17 I'll admit me too, hearing such sad news over the last few days totally put the fear in me. I am SO afraid of a MMC and getting into the scan room and finding that there is nothing there. Still 18 more days to wait for me - and that's until a private scan/harmony test so will also be terrified about the results of it too if/when I get over the fear that there's actually nothing in there. Having different symptoms from my first pregnancy doesn't help at all.
Having said all of that it's so important that people can share here everything they are going though (good or bad) so that we can support each other, so I hope nobody takes what I'm saying the wrong way.

toasterstrudle · 08/11/2018 17:13

@Napssavelives that's fantastic!

@sk17 I'm with you on the paranoia. It's just shit!

I had my booking in app and cried throughout basically the whole thing as had to discuss birth which ended in EMCS (bit traumatic anyway), both miscarriages and the surgery following the miscarriage. So now I think I'm flagged for antenatal depression. Excellent!

Got an early (8weeks) scan tomorrow. Crossing everything so tight for good news.

Littleray84 · 08/11/2018 18:09

Fab news @napsavelives

I had my Epu scan measuring 7+4 so a few days behind, as I thought I was 8+1, but little blob was there and looked fine, the sonographer said there was a good strong heartbeat.

There was no obvious reason for my bleeding just said possibly old blood or bleeding from the placenta attaching and mixing with my vessels maybe.

curlypasta · 08/11/2018 18:44

I’ve had the longest day at work. That plus DH is away, both my DS’s are full of beans and the dog wants a walk. It’s not happening. They are having a sofa and iPad tea and the dog is in the garden. Will be bath and bed for all of us very soon!

MauisLeftNipple · 08/11/2018 19:15

Woe is me. The vomiting has started at 6+6. I've never had it this early. Have a cracking headache and visual disturbances, due to dehydration I guess. Am taking cyclizine but wonder if i need something else as really struggling to eat and drink.

fee1234 · 08/11/2018 19:24

Great to hear about the scans, hope everyone is keeping well x

The unthinkable has happened.. I've went off bread!! Managed to eat an apple today which is probably the most nutritional thing I've managed in weeks. Ready for the nausea to calm down a bit

jacquejacque · 08/11/2018 19:35

Weird one but does anybody else find pressure on their tummy causes mild cramps? If my waistband is even slightly tight around my tummy, or isn't pulled right up to my ribs, I get little period like cramps. I've bought some maternity trousers which are heavenly, but even the little seam on those is pressing slightly on my bikini line when I sit for too long and making my uterus (I think) twinge. Is it just me or is this an actual thing?

mindthechaos · 08/11/2018 20:02

Things seem to be settling down a bit for me now. My diet is pretty shocking at the moment but I’ve found a weird combo of safe food that I’m eating constantly. Plus I had one night where I managed to stay awake until 10 so feeling like a rockstar Grin

fee I’m the same! Had to chuck out a tiger loaf at the weekend because the smell was making me heave. I can have plain white in a sandwich though, just not toast.

Napsalive lovely scan pic! Glad everything is ok for you and littlerat

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/11/2018 20:03

I could smell every fart in Waterloo station tonight - it’s a miracle I didn’t hurl on the tracks.
