Morning! Looks like a lovely sunny day!
Think we've missed TA as she said she was going in at 07:00 to be induced - I'm her text buddy so will keep you all posted......

Well Ive just been woken up at 07:20 by the phone - a bloke who Dp is working for today - could he bring in some milk - WTF!! he left at 07:00 and if that man hadnt rung, i'd still be asleep [angry!!] - what if i'd just had the LO - don't people THINK????

mumof4aceboys · 21/06/2007 07:53

Is TA still around this morning? Im guessing not?

daisyboo · 21/06/2007 09:18

Congrats again Ria.....pity about the water birth and the post-natal experience.....my post nata was great....move to Leeds for the next one, LOL. Glad all is well with DS, but shitty shit about your DHs time off...employers are such wankers about these things.

Too late obviously, but GOOD LUCK, TA.Off out so hopefully she'll have had it by the time I get back!

hollyandalice · 21/06/2007 09:39

WOW!! A whopper from nikie1 ! He is gorgeous, I want one !

hollyandalice · 21/06/2007 11:50

Where is everyone today? I guess I'm one of the only ones left without a baby !

SmilingKiwi · 21/06/2007 12:39

Its OK H&A!!! I actually still here waiting too!! 6 days over due! Folks have arrived from NZ so have been hanging out with them and its been a great distraction. Still dreaming of a homebirth so reading up on natural inducing methods....DH loving it! Hope everyone is well and congratulations to all the new Mummies and babes... I have been trying to follow!
Off to check Stats thread now

Hi all. Saw the consultant today - he examined which was AGONY - he said it is because my cervix is tipped and very far back. He couldn't (thank God) give me a sweep and I am not dilated despite five days of show (show? More like museum exhibit). The baby is big, he says (oh joy) and because of my age (apparently there is a link between past due date and still birth in the over 40s), he wants to induce next week, at 40 weeks.

Does all this sound reasonable to you? I am going to rush out and buy a hypnobirth CD as suddenly it is becoming rather real....

mumof4aceboys · 21/06/2007 13:19

Hi Doggus - I would say to follow the consultants advice. They dont do/say these things for nothing. They know the stats and risks. For me its not worth the risk. With DS3 I was told by the MW that he was big at 39w and she sent me to see the consultant. He said the baby was average but did a sweep. I had a 8lb boy the next day. 1 year later with DS4 the same MW said the baby was average. The same consultant examined me that day and said that the baby was big and induced me the same day. I was 38w and had a 10.11lb baby - god help me if i'd done full term! (im only 5ft) Also, my mate was 41 at the time and went to 41+2 weeks against the consultants advice. The babys movements stopped suddenly and he was stillborn. He was her 1st child and she has never forgiven herself and hasnt had another child. Hope this helps you xx

Klaw · 21/06/2007 13:21

Doggus, Cons wants to induce but what do YOU want?

Am off to research this nonsense a bit more as it sounds like B@££@cks to me! At only 40wks! Most babies naturally arrive by 41wks afaik....

Seansgirl · 21/06/2007 13:22

BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO BUMPER & RIA!!!! Have I missed anyone??

daisyboo · 21/06/2007 13:22

Hi smilingkiwi...we haven't heard from you for ages. Any twinges etc?

Doggus.......I hadn't heard that one, but I'm sure if you start a thread in childbirth someone will be along with advice. The placents starts to function less efficiently when it is post mature and that was one of the reasons cited at me for not postponing my c-section beyound my dates, but surely as the average term pg is 37-42 weeks, I would've thought you were OK until week 42. Are you set against being induced? If so, you can request exectant management like TA did. The size thing is a bit arbitrary I think. My sis had a growth scan and they told her that bub would be around the 10lb mark...he was actually 7lb 10oz. They can get the size wrong by about 25% IIRC

Took DD shopping today...and she slept through the whole experience, only waking up when we put her back in the car and then she screamed all the way home as she had slept from 7:00 till 12:00 and was obviously starving....

Got measured for nursing bras in Bravissimo....a whopping great 34 H. DH says that past a D cup, the letters don't actually mean anything

annobal · 21/06/2007 13:58

Hi SmilingKiwi, good to hear from you. It's great having your parents visit isn't it (well for the first few days anyway ).

Daisy - sounds like a great outing - that's exactly what you want, a baby that sleeps while you shop (not necessarily one that screams all the way home though).

We've been for a huge walk today - all the way to Greenwich market. I bought a t-shirt and top for me and 3 t-shirts for DH - feeling v virtuous after my walk.

Anyone heard from TA?

Klaw · 21/06/2007 13:59

Ok, so I came across this which I thought was very sensible.

3 stillbirths per 1000 = 0.3% You have greater risks of many others things happening which we do not worry about so much!

Ask to be monitored closely, as per that article if you would prefer not to be induced. Bear in mind the risks of induction also.

justbeme · 21/06/2007 14:29

Afternoon!
My its been quite quiet on here today.
Cant remember if I congratulated you Seansgirl? Have been reading the Post natal thread - makes me wonder why we are all so desperate to get our LO's out!!

No news yet from TA
Foxys gone to Ascot hasnt she?

Mum of 4 - keep meaning to say what lovely children you have!!

Im getting quite sharp twinges down below - but thats all. Am trying to get motivated to do something, but quite like sitting on my arse listening to the birds in the garden!

daisyboo · 21/06/2007 14:31

Had a text from Bumper to say that Baby Bumper (as yet un-named) slept well last night (unlike Bumper) and that she is feeding "like a monster". She hopes that eveyone is well!

daisyboo · 21/06/2007 14:31

LOL JBM.....it's just a different set of aches and pains on the "other side"

lulumama · 21/06/2007 15:50

any news from TA??

hollyandalice · 21/06/2007 16:27

Afternoon all! It is ever so quiet today, I guess TA is busy, foxy is watching the ponies and everyone else has small people to look after!

Hey smilingkiwi! Good to hear from you! Glad you are well and having a great time with your parents. Hope you are not too bored being overdue and hope LO arrives soon!

mumof4aceboys · 21/06/2007 16:28

Justbeme - thanks for the comment about my boys! Ur DD is gorgeous! A real stunner!

Holly - have you looked at the website homebirth.org.uk I thought they had Some useful tips if you are very keen on homebirth when overdue.

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 21/06/2007 17:03

Hi

Oh I'm so bored today - I've mostly been sleeping!
Still no baby!
He's hardly moved today so I'm going to call the midwife and see what she says

Hope everyone is ok?

Really can't wait to hear how TA is getting on today?

doggus · 21/06/2007 17:09

Hi all - many thanks for your help, especially Klaw for coming on. I think I am going to go and start a thread on Childbirth to see if anyone else has been told this.

I do feel reassured by the fact that they can get the size wrong by up to 25% as I really really don't want to try and deliver a whopper. Mumof4, thank you for your experiences too.

By the way, can the cons having a feel leave you with weird crampy pains? He didn't do a sweep, but I am getting very odd pains and some bleeding.

Sorry to be needy today, I have been a bit thrown as I didn't think I was going to be induced and last time they measured I was having a distinctly average sized baby!

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 21/06/2007 17:14

Hi Doggus

I bet if you posted a thread up you'd get loads of good advice. Sorry tho that I am so useless and have no clue what to say on the subject?!

I've rang the labour ward - and I'm going to pop along for a monitor to see that the little fella's ok - I am hoping he's stopped moving so much cos he's running out of room!?

Should I take my bag in case they don't let me out again?

mumof4aceboys · 21/06/2007 17:16

Hi doggus - they can make ur cervix a bit tender etc. Mite be this or that start of something else? Check the website address I left for holly as there was some useful placenta info on there?

doggus · 21/06/2007 17:17

DKMA - I dkmafmye either, but wanted to wish you good luck for your monitoring. If you are driving, put the bag in the back, that's what I do, I've heard too many stories about people being kept in! I've only had sporadic movement recently, I do think they run out of space.

mumof4aceboys · 21/06/2007 17:18

Hi DKMA - would keep the bag in the car from now on just in case. Hope ur ok - let us know xx
