@TwittleBee that's a good call I think - reassuring to have the option there if you feel the need.

I have thinking to do about it tbh as I do have reservations about the care I received previously 😕

@StargazyDrifter worth having a look to see what clinics local to you offer. Some packages vary.

Laburna · 07/11/2018 16:32

I'm going to be controversial and say I never gave up underwire. I even had underwire nursing bras.

I have very big boobs, and I feel very uncomfortable with them not properly supported and it was affecting my MH feeling so uncomfortable all the time. They were £40 a pop, but so worth it to feel good about myself.

The advise now is that you don't have to providing they are well fitted and the breast tissue isn't squashed in any place.

I had mastitis before I'd left the hospital, it's not nice avoid at all costs! My main lesson from some seriously crap advice on the labour ward about Bfing was to use flat fingers while shaping your breast to go into babies mouth, always flat, never finger tips or pointy fingers!

GiGi18 · 07/11/2018 16:34

That is a rude receptionist! Sorry you had to deal with that.

What is a booking in appointment please? Feel like I don’t know what the next steps are! I checked my GPs website and it looks like I’m meant to be just phone the midwives myself and skip the GP. Is that normal or do you usually see GP first? It’s not very clear and don’t want to make a fool of myself! Hahah! I’m not going to phone until the end of next week anyway because I know they will basically tell me I’m way too early and to phone back.

Brainfried1986 · 07/11/2018 16:37

@StargazyDrifter I reckon as long as a bra actually fits and doesn’t dig in at all it’s probably fine, underwires could effect the development of the breast tissue if they are digging in. I went for non-wired quite early last time for comfort & bought an extender so I could get a bit more time with bras I liked in the later months. This time I’ll be sticking with all of my comfy nursing bras!

westsussex123 · 07/11/2018 16:41

Haha thanks everyone for the support. I mean a congratulations would have been nice!

@GiGi18 How you go about booking your first appointment varies but if you can self refer definitely just call the midwife as there's no need to see your GP.

GiGi18 · 07/11/2018 16:52

@westsussex123 thank you, looks like that is what I am to do then. X

Laburna · 07/11/2018 16:55

Welcome to the gang @westsussex123! How're you doing?

Frazzlerock · 07/11/2018 16:55

Hello more new recruits!!

Also, that website I bought those little bits off of. Look at this little hat Grin......

gigil.com/products/baby-bobble-hat?mc_cid=ba0b1518ca&mc_eid=29b2ab51f3

£20 though Hmm

babyl0ve · 07/11/2018 16:57

Oh shit sorry, I used another username but westsussex is me!

Frazzlerock · 07/11/2018 17:00

Haha, @babyl0ve I was SOOOOO confused. I was thinking "I know our group is huge but I swear I don't remember a westsussex" Grin

Welcome to the gang

Laburna · 07/11/2018 17:00

I thought it might have been someone with a different username 😂

babyl0ve · 07/11/2018 17:00

oh @frazzlerock that is just too cute!

I had planned on crocheting the baby this cardigan and hat set and actually bought the pattern but I've just realised it's actually a knitting pattern Envy

babyl0ve · 07/11/2018 17:01

At least you all know where I am now!

So much for mystery...

Frazzlerock · 07/11/2018 17:03

@babyl0ve that is adorable! I wish I could knit/crochet. I mean, can sort of knit but I rush it as I have no patience and I make tonnes of holes.

SnailorSwift · 07/11/2018 17:03

@Frazzlerock that hat 😍

And omg @babyl0ve that wee set is beautiful! I knit but my crocheting is faster!

babyl0ve · 07/11/2018 17:09

@Frazzlerock You should give it a go! I only started fairly recently as I needed something to focus on other than TTC which was really getting to me. I learnt by watching Bella Coco's tutorials on YouTube.

@SnailorSwift Let me know if you want me to email you the pattern!

StargazyDrifter · 07/11/2018 17:09

They're both absolutely adorable! Hats and carries for a July newborn though?

I will stick with my underwireds for a little bit longer and will switch as soon as the scan is a good one! I don't fit into any of my nice bras any more and only have two awful flesh coloured GAP ones to go with for now. Very comfy though.

babyl0ve · 07/11/2018 17:11

@StargazyDrifter haha that's a very good point! Fortunately the pattern is for 3-6 months

Frazzlerock · 07/11/2018 17:11

@StargazyDrifter I was thinking more of a winter hat so when they're 3 months +

@babyl0ve I will have a look, I'd love to learn to crochet

StargazyDrifter · 07/11/2018 17:15

Ok you guys, there's no stopping you! @Frazze and @babyl0ve.

I used to be ok at crochet one, back at school. I still have a couple of things knitted and made for me when I was a baby and was thinking it'd be nice to carry that on. babyl0ve do you have any idiot-proof successions for things I can crochet? Might be a very good distraction!

StargazyDrifter · 07/11/2018 17:16

*suggestions, gah, sorry.

babyl0ve · 07/11/2018 17:25

@StargazyDrifter Maybe start out by doing some granny squares as it's a good way to learn some different stitches. A headband would also be a good project to begin with Smile

SnailorSwift · 07/11/2018 17:34

@babyl0ve I would love that thanks, so kind of you to offer 💐

TwittleBee · 07/11/2018 17:39

Dating scan app came through, 27th Dec! Damn it looks like I'll have to tell everyone on my birthday (nyd) instead

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 07/11/2018 18:00

@StargazyDrifter not sure if it's been answered. Just catching up on posts. I know that most standard private hospitals don't often have facilities for babies.

I used to work for a private medical insurance company. We were always told if the baby was needing special care then they'd have to been born in an nhs hospital because there's no neo-natal in private hospitals. Unless you're thinking ludo wing
