Calling all up-duffed Yammers! Come and continue the swearing and the love on our pregnancy thread, and let us never forget how lucky we are! Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think that's inappropriate. Surely knocking is standard at the least? Sounds like an old boot. Some are I'm afraid. The head m/w on post natal was vile too. Patronising cow.

I'm afraid I ate rare steak and had the odd red wine, but my GD was much the same, and actually DS was a whole lb lighter than his sister, so no problem. Although I was pretty strict on the diet. Gotta get back to it in the new year, it's so good for my waist!

Si1ver · 21/11/2018 15:57

I'm paranoid about the steak and the idea of wine still makes me gag at the moment. If I could have a glass without vomming I totally would. 😆

The baby is currently 4lbs apparently, mainly down to his enormous head 97th percentile. The woman doing my scan wasn't great with the poker face either.

"Just need to remeasure the head, I've accidentally given him a massive head"

Remeasures....

"Oh.... Turns out that was right..... Oh"

I should have been more selective about head size when picking a husband.

BGDino · 22/11/2018 04:09

Sounds like I’d better cross everything and hope against hope my GTT is ok... find out at the obstetrician’s tomorrow. Otherwise you’ll all be needing to give me diet tips!

Have managed to LOSE 4kg since getting pregnant, think it’s mostly due to being too nauseous and tired to eat. 16 weeks of feeling crap is shitting on my mental health, not sure if I’m sliding towards a relapse of depression or if it’s a reaction to 4 months of nausea and fatigue with no end in sight. Have even questioned whether the baby is worth this... then immediately felt very guilty and evil for even thinking that and that if something happens to him it will be my fault for thinking that.

BGDino · 23/11/2018 21:54

Of course, I have GDM. I’m totally not spending this weekend trying to eat everything I won’t be allowed to have for the next 5 months... Hmm

WonkyDonk87 · 23/11/2018 22:00

Oh Dino that's shit, I'm so sorry.

WonkyDonk87 · 23/11/2018 22:02

Hopefully one of the YamGrads will be along to tell you it's all been tolerable. My MIL has DM and although it was a big adjustment (late diagnosis) she's found other ways to reward herself. Have some non-sugary 💐

Hopeislost · 23/11/2018 22:03

Sorry to hear that @BGDino. When do they do the GTT?

Si1ver · 23/11/2018 22:31

That's shit. I'm so sorry Dino. Have a wallow and a cry and rant about it.

When you're ready, this website is excellent www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk it's very practical. The dietary advice given isn't what the NHS advises (not that this would matter for you in Australia) but it really works. I've followed it and my first appointment with the endocrinologist has her saying my blood test results were perfect, everything was under control and that if nothing changed I could still have midwife led care. I don't need to go back for a month which is great.

In particular read what she says about food pairing. So combining fat and carbs or sugar to keep things steady and prevent your blood sugar spiking. It's big highs and lows that cause you issues.

Here's an example of what I ate today, to make you feel better.

Breakfast - slice of frittata topped with bacon and cheese
Lunch - multi grain wrap with chicken, small amount of sweetcorn, mayonnaise and lettuce
Dinner - chicken, chorizo, tomato and butter bean stew

The only real difference to my life is having to snack three times a day which I find infantalising. Today my snacks were

1- two hobnobs with Philadelphia cheese
2 - peanuts and grapes
3 - two oatcakes, slice of cheddar, square of dark chocolate.

My blood sugars were 5.6 after breakfast, 5 after lunch, 6.2 after dinner.

LimpLettice · 24/11/2018 15:23

What she says, Dino. I'm out the other side now but it's doable, and actually knowing it affects baby makes it relatively easy to stay on track. S1lvers recommendations are great. All fruit and carbs should be paired with fats and protein so stock up on cream, cheese, nuts and nut butters. Eggs not cereal, basically. It feels counterintuitive and unhealthy but does work.

Funny that's 3 of us now. Ask anything if you need, and do join the Gestational Diabetes UK fb page if you're on there. Annoying amount of 'you got this, hun', but excellent advice and ideas. It kept me diet controlled for the duration, kept weight stable and reminded me to stay focussed.

BGDino · 25/11/2018 10:58

Thanks everyone. I like snacks so at least that part will be ok!

Currently weighing up whether to stop work early at 20 weeks - I can use long service leave to get to 32 and then go on mat leave. Financially we’d be ok. Belong to a medical mums’ group on FB and most people have muscled through jobs way more strenuous than mine... feeling alone and a bit of a wuss Hmm

Si1ver · 25/11/2018 11:17

You should do whatever is best for you and the baby and not feel judged or wussy if you want to leave early.

However do have a think about what your day will look like for the next 20 weeks. I'm going at 35 weeks as that coincides with Christmas and I'm worried about January. I'm struggling with loss of identity, being on my own all day, having to create my own routine.

Pinkemi · 26/11/2018 10:51

Sorry to hear about the GDM @BGDino. I am dreading that appointment as I'm so overweight I bet Ill get it.

I signed up to slimming world last week but haven't followed it ONE BIT! Im feeling like a bit of a failure and I am sure my weigh in later will be awful.

Ive got a horrendous cough which just wont go away.. it doesnt matter how much honey and lemon I drink (because I can no longer had lemsips) or sugar free sweets I suck ( coz no more cough sweets).. its JUST not going away!

I have my 7 week scan tomorrow morning and i am bricking it! I just keep fearing the worst, because i just don't feel pregnant most days. Sad

Si1ver · 26/11/2018 11:50

Hope your scan goes well tomorrow @Pinkemi

Have you tried a humidifier for your cough?

Pinkemi · 26/11/2018 12:16

Thank you!

No i havent.. i keep meaning to but have been so busy! Might hang my head over a bowl of hot water tonight.

Pinkemi · 26/11/2018 14:30

ah @Si1ver Thanks for this.

I thought we weren't allowed like... essential oils etc when pregnant? Or is that just for like massages etc?

Si1ver · 26/11/2018 15:35

You can use them with just water. I use olbas oil when I've got a cold at the moment.

Si1ver · 27/11/2018 08:08

Good luck with your first scan today @Maddiie

Si1ver · 27/11/2018 10:36

That was meant to say @Pinkemi. I am fully baby brained today 🤪

Pinkemi · 27/11/2018 12:31

so the scan today went well. Grin

I full on bawled when they said "Everything's looking good." So much relief! They did say that the baby is a bit small.. but we shouldn't worry about it as it will catch up by the 12th week scan.

Just seeing that flutter of a heartbeat.. it was truly amazing!! Grin

Si1ver · 27/11/2018 12:47

That's awesome news @Pinkemi. At that age it's mm in the sizing so it's easy to for them to look small/big.

Pinkemi · 27/11/2018 13:02

honestly @Si1ver I was so worried about it.. was convinced that something was wrong as hadn't really been having any symptoms! I think the biggest symptom I have had is i that feel way more tired than normal.. but thats about it. This cough I have has probably hidden some of the symptoms to be fair!

but seeing our blob on the screen.. and the fluttering of a heartbeat.. I couldnt have been prouder! God knows what I will be like at my 12th week scan! haha

Si1ver · 27/11/2018 13:06

It's so lovely to see isn't it? I think I held my breath all the way through the seven week scan until they said it was ok. Now you've seen a heartbeat your odds of a successful pregnancy have shot up.

My only symptoms were exhaustion and sore boobs. I've actually only been sick three times during my pregnancy. Then I'd have days where I felt fine and I'd panic. Remember you can always have another scan if you're worried. I had another at 10 weeks as I had to travel with work and had to tell my boss before I went for my work travel insurance.

Pinkemi · 28/11/2018 11:00

@Si1ver did you pay for the 10 week scan? Im tempted.. because id love to make sure our little Bubba is doing ok.

The only issue i can see would be my boss. I thought telling her early (because I was worried things hadn't worked) would make her more sympathetic towards me.. but it seems to have backfired. Sad

Christmas is always a very busy time of year for us.. and shes probably worrying about having enough people to complete the work or something.. so seems to be projecting all this onto me. She is making me feel guilty for being pregnant at this time! Hmm

in my defence i think I've actually been pretty decent! I've only had 1 or 2 days off sick in the past 7 weeks... even though the nurse I went to see said I could technically get the doctors to sign me off for a week or so if work is too stressful. I didn't take her up for it because i felt bad that ive felt ill but not too ill to work.

urgh.. bloody woman. I cant do right even when i try!

Pinkemi · 28/11/2018 11:01

Sorry i pressed send before my rant had finished! Grin

Im wondering if i should just tell my HR department that Im pregnant now.. so that i am covered by all the "pregnant woman rights" that the company has. I didnt before because i was worried... still am!

urgh i dunno what to do!
