Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

That's great news on the meds.

There's no reason to wait to book in with the midwife. They probably won't see you before 8 weeks but might be able to give you the go ahead for SW on the phone if you ask.

Also don't beat yourself up too much about your diet. Hopefully you'll have an easy first trimester, but there are times you just need to eat what you're able to.

Pinkemi · 12/11/2018 13:20

yeah maybe.. I might call them... Going to think about it. Part of me doesn't want to jinx it until i've seen that everything is okay at my scan. You know? I'm already taking tests left right and centre to check that I'm still actually pregnant! Grin I haven't had many symptoms so far.. just feel bloated and really tired.

I say this.. but i bet I call the doctors tomorrow. haha

Hope everyone else is doing okay?

Si1ver · 12/11/2018 14:21

I know what you mean about jinxing things. I didn't book in until I'd seen a heartbeat, but it's all personal choice. And logically it won't make any difference.

WonkyDonk87 · 12/11/2018 18:52

Glad you got things sorted @Pinkemi, don't stress too much about weight loss, so much is out of your control. Watch the sugar, download some poscasts and go for a good stomp every day (although I must admit my own has slacked off with the weather). I found a local babyfit class too - worth a search online as they're indoors!

@BGDino I looked and felt fat and bloaty until about 23 weeks - then suddenly pinged out into a bump. It'll sneak up on you!

@Hopeislost Deffo just genetics and luck I reckon.... but smearing myself in bio-oil every night just in case 😉

LimpLettice · 13/11/2018 10:22

I had a bump quite early this time but everyone's different. You know it's baby, sod everyone else. If you are worried about weight Pink talk to your midwife, mine was happy with my BMI of 29 but also offered help if I needed.

I oiled up religiously with DD Hope and still ended up with tiger stripes. This time I was much lazier and slapped on some body butter when I remembered and not a single line. I will say though that the old ones are basically invisible now, and not a concern really.

LimpLettice · 13/11/2018 10:24

As for us, boy is doing beautifully. Milk came in with a vengeance Sunday morning and I'm fairly sure he's chubbing up a bit already. Sleep hit and miss but we're going up together at 8 and I reckon I managed 7 hours in chunks last night which was lovely. I'd forgotten the sheer adoration and the loss of hours staring into their faces haha.

Pinkemi · 13/11/2018 11:44

I know I shouldn't stress.. but its difficult when im so worried about how I will be later on in the pregnancy.. when I'm already big enough! You know?

I said I wouldn't... but I called my doctors today.. and my first midwife appointment is 19th December! (So far away!) I am having a call with the doctors tomorrow so they can help reassure me on a couple of things.

Called the Spa i'm going to in a couple of weeks time for a hen do.. and they said that the thermal water is safe for any time in pregnancy as the water is cooler than a bath (33.5 degrees.) But.. seeing as I am sure i'm not even allowed baths at the moment.. I just want to make sure! Have also emailed the clinic asking the same question.. so i guess we will see what they say! But wanted to get advice from GP on it (not sure they can help mind you.)

@LimpLettice glad to hear things are good for you!

Pinkemi · 14/11/2018 11:37

Phew! First scan date has come in.. got it in a couple of weeks time!

Doctor has said it is perfectly safe (and also encouraged) to gently lose weight due to my size.. so I am contacting slimming world over the next couple of days to get myself booked in!

She also said that the spa should be absolutely fine.. My Clinic said that I should do what I feel like I want to do.. which isnt really very helpful. But they didnt say a down right " you cant do it."

I'm just struggling I think.. if something goes wrong I know that I will blame myself for going in the thermal waters... even though everyone is saying they are safe.

I could just go and hang my legs and feet into them.. but i just think thats SO obvious then that I'm pregnant and worried about over heating.

I dunno.. gonna have to think about it i think.

Si1ver · 14/11/2018 15:01

I'm pleased that you've got your scan booked in and you've spoken to your doctor. Hopefully you should feel a bit better about things now.

I've just had my first appointment with the gestational diabetes team. They booked me in with the mw who made me cry last week. I asked to see someone else and they told me that I couldn't for the next two weeks and that it would be my choice to put the baby at risk if I chose to wait.

The appointment did not go terribly well TBF.

BGDino · 15/11/2018 10:51

I’ve got my glucose tolerance test 9am tomorrow morning... just how I wanted to start my weekend...! (Don’t work Fridays.)

NimbleKnitter · 19/11/2018 09:15

Congrats limp! Where do I see photos?!

Pinkemi · 19/11/2018 11:32

@BGDino how did the glucose test go??

Not a lot to report here.. except i have a horrendous cough again. :Sad Currently working from home feeling very sorry for myself, waiting for a doctors appointment. Hoping they can help get rid of it seeing as I cant take the normal meds that i would!

Other then that.. still worrying because i havent had many symptoms. Keep waiting for them to kick in. Confused unless they have just been masked this damn cough. lol

LimpLettice · 19/11/2018 12:38

Try not to panic, Pink. Symptoms come and go. it's hard I know.

Hey Nimble. Are you on the grads fb group? A couple on there. I'm doing pretty good. The boy is a little dot, feeding well and putting weight on from the first day. Sleep isn't too bad, 3 night wakings usually so I'm going to bed early and trying to catch what I can. DD and DH both smitten too. How are you getting on?

S1lver I'm not amused on your behalf. I cried for days after my gd diagnosis and found it all really overwhelming at first. Now it's all over I'm so relieved but they shouldn't be making it harder on you. The nutritional advice I got was awful, really carb heavy so I just binned it all and experimented. Lots of spike testing to ascertain what worked. Gd nurse didn't like that as strips etc are v expensive but it kept me diet controlled so boo to that.

NimbleKnitter · 19/11/2018 15:27

There’s a grads group? Nope. Sooz in charge? Will FB message her

Si1ver · 19/11/2018 18:54

@LimpLettice the nutrition advice they gave me was shocking too. Turns out that high protein, complex carbs, high fat, low sugar eating three meals and three snacks a day keeps me on a completely even keel though. The highest reading I've had has been 6.8. It's the sort of diet we eat normally (when I'm not pregnant), but with added snacks that I wouldn't usually have and honestly more carbs than usual.

The real problem is the things that I've been craving - apples and white pasta are now off the table, along with cake. And that's pissing me off.

And the horrible mw gave me a monitor with a nearly dead battery, so I had to spend £10 on new watch batteries for the hideous thing yesterday.

They can whinge all the like about me wasting strips. I took four goes to get my after lunch reading today as it kept erroring.

LimpLettice · 19/11/2018 19:05

S1lver I managed a Granny Smith if paired with a few bits and a lump of cheese. Sweet apples not so much but GS ok. Bread was my downfall, even whole meal spiked me, but Burgen soya and linseed worked and I'm still eating it. Very similar, lots of cream, cheese and avocados. Although I have not been good the last ten days, oops.

Pinkemi · 19/11/2018 19:10

Urgh.. guys im really struggling with these pesseries ive been given. My old ones had an applicator so you could shove it right up there.. bobs your uncle.. done and dusted.

These ones you have to shove up with yoy finger.. which normally is fine.. its not that which im struggling with.

What im struggling with is i have a horrendous cough at the moment. I keep losing the pill. [confused.] Basically i cough so hard the bloody things popping back out into my knickers. God knows how much im actually getting absorbed into me. Confused

Si1ver · 19/11/2018 19:40

@LimpLettice I don't want Granny Smith's, I want Pink Ladies. And yes, yes I am being a child about this.

@Pinkemi you can buy applicators on Amazon. You can also insert them rectally if that's easier. They need to be in for about an hour I think.

LimpLettice · 19/11/2018 19:56

I get it S1lver. Sympathies, I was totally childish about a variety of things, and stropped for days about sweetener in my one daily coffee. Hope it flies by.

Pink that's shitey, although possibly a good sign of lovely strong pelvic muscles. Trying to look on the bright side for you.

Did anyone message Milk?

Pinkemi · 20/11/2018 15:45

@Si1ver.. So i dunno why i hadn't thought to use them.. but I had a load of applicators left over from the old type.. and the new pills FIT! Much much better this morning! Thank you for suggesting this! I'm a much happier person today. haha

Whats this about not being able to have pink ladies? Is it because of the sugar content? Im probably being naive but surely all fruit is okay?

So.. because its coming up to a pretty busy time at work.. i decided to tell my boss earlier than normal that i have a bun in the oven... you know.. just in case. I had been worrying about telling her for days (as we don't get on a lot of the time) and actually she was really supportive. My DH said its probably because shes delighted to find out that ill be gone for a year! Grin Which is probably the truth! haha

She told me that she actually lost her first.. and couldnt tell anyone at the time as she was a contractor. It goes to show that you never really know what hidden battles people are fighting!

On a side note.. I'm feeling pretty sick today.. but not sure if thats just a knock on effect of this damn cough!

Hope everyone else is okay?

Si1ver · 20/11/2018 15:53

Oh I'm glad that's worked out for you @Pinkemi, the pessaries are bad enough without faffing about getting them to stay in. Try a humidifier for your cough and remember you can have vick vapour rub too.

Yes, too much sugar in Pink Ladies. Likewise most fruit including tomatoes. Green bananas and a few grapes are ok as are horrible Granny Smith's if you pair them with a fat so cheese or peanut butter usually.

Pinkemi · 20/11/2018 16:53

@Si1ver.. oh god they are awful! I thought I only had to do them until my seven week scan.. but seeing as that is next Tuesday.. and I seem to have much more left.. I am guessing its until twelve weeks like you said. Sad i can not wait to be done with them!

Oh wow.. didnt think about fruit as being bad.. mainly because have always been told fruit is good (and better than eating a chocolate bar!)

Although apple and peanut butter.. yum!! Wish i had some peanut butter now. haha

Hopeislost · 20/11/2018 18:31

@Pinkemi Glad to hear that your boss was supportive.

I told my work this week (19 weeks). We've just had a really busy time and I was putting it off as I've only been there 4 months. But everyone's been really lovely!

LimpLettice · 21/11/2018 11:56

It's a real eye opener seeing just how sugary some fruit is. I did ok with tomatoes but carrots were a no go, and any white carb. Even half a chappatti sent my sugars haywire. I'm pleased to say I've eaten my own body weight in potatoes, jam and Victoria sponge in the last 2 weeks though ha.

Sounds like everyone's work have been good, apart from Sooz's shitty head that is. Mine text about ten times a week but have otherwise not been too annoying. I'm going in for a visit next week, hopefully just on a social basis 😊

Si1ver · 21/11/2018 13:33

I am pleased to hear that you've been fully embracing the cake @Limp. I've started compiling a list of things to eat after I've had the baby, it was just a large rare steak, glass of red wine, some pate and very ripe brie but now it includes fantasies of homemade Bakewell tart, apples, tomato soup, white pasta and peas.

I had my first meeting with the endocrinologist today. She basically said my blood tests were perfect, the baby size was on track (other than a 97 percentile head size 😲) and that I clearly had everything under control so she'd classify the GD as v mild and nothing to really worry about.

However the horrendous MW, the one who made me cry interrogating me about my miscarriage, walked in to the office in the middle of my consultation, without knocking to retrieve some paperwork. Am I being over touchy or is that inappropriate?
