Calling all up-duffed Yammers! Come and continue the swearing and the love on our pregnancy thread, and let us never forget how lucky we are! Smile

Well, the boy is 12 days old. I probably started with about 165 nappies - size 1 (smallest) which I think go up to 10lbs (he's currently 7lbs 7oz). I reckon we've used around 70. The first couple of days he didn't go through so many but now he gets through easily 7 or 8 a day.

But we're totally winging it! Got some size 2s ready so it's just a case of waiting until we realise the size 1s are too small!

Brill - thanks Sooz, RL advice is so much better than google ☺️

LimpLettice · 06/01/2019 04:38

Tesco nappies size 1 go to 11lb, but we switched before that at about 10, which was 6 weeks ish. Averaging 10 nappies a day. I'd suggest not going too mad though, if baby is big you might end up with loads left over. We started with about 200.

Both times I've found an awful lot of the 'stuff' utterly pointless! I got bought a bottle drying rack with DD, which was literally the biggest waste of plastic ever thought of, happy to help with list too.

Teachermummy83 · 06/01/2019 10:56

Great advice about the nappies @Sooz and @Limp, will remember that. I’ve been wondering about real nappies once bub is a bit older, as my cousin swore by these for her 3 - has anyone got any experience of these?

Just noticed Aldi have their baby event coming up and seems to have lots of bargains. Is it good stuff or cheap crap though? Has anyone stocked up on any of this stuff? I love Aldi but as it’s 3 hours away I’d need to order online and returning would be a faff. Any recommendations on which things are good and what needs to be avoided at all costs?

@SoozC Were you Christmas Eve? It seems funny that our babies are the same age but they aren't! Teddy is in preemie nappies bless him. My DD's have baby dolls that are big compared to him!

MynameisJune · 06/01/2019 11:47

I’d be wary of buying too many of any type of nappy. You might find they don’t fit your baby very well and leak all the time. DD was super skinny and pampers where the only ones that didn’t leak. We tried so many different ones.

We are using cloth nappies this time.

LimpLettice · 06/01/2019 12:29

I find Aldi excellent. Their nappies, clothes and bits are all brilliant and I'll probably buy their high chair next time it's on offer. I also have a changing unit from them which was excellent value.

Seconded on the brand of nappies. I bought Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and ASDA to try with both babies, and got given some Pampers. Tesco and Aldi win on Boy, where girl suited Lidl I think. Cloth is not for me, but you can try starter kits to see if it works for you.

WonkyDonk87 · 06/01/2019 13:15

Cot and dresser built
Baby stuff organised
Hospital bag started
Now to sort through and wash the mountain of clothes Confused

Definitely feeling a bit better now though, crossing things off on a list is THE best Grin

Teachermummy83 · 06/01/2019 14:13

Thanks @Limp, I’ll start my Aldi order now. I know the big things will be expensive so want to make the most of deals where I can for the basics. Good to know the quality is good 😊. Will leave nappies until nearer the time though!
Glad you’re getting through it and feeling better @Wonky, lists are definitely the way forward! Off to start my shopping list now! 😊

DoAsDreamersDo · 06/01/2019 17:45

We like the Aldi nappies. Lidl are our favourites though (and are nice and cheap 😉). I bought some Adda ones yesterday in size one and they’re too small (even though all the other brands fit In the same size). Really didn’t like Pampers though - they were a funny fit.

My little girl is 3 weeks old and during the day she is a dream (not so much on a night, but she’s not too bad) x

LimpLettice · 06/01/2019 18:37

We had a 5.5 hour stretch of sleep then 3.5!last night after a vile week which makes me feel like superwoman. I've been very productive today and am looking after a friends kids with mine tomorrow too. He'll probly be up all night now, just to put me in my place haha.

Ordered a good few bits from Aldi, thanks for the heads up Teacher.

This boy is so loooong! Packing away all the 0-3 already, which means I'm already pouting he's growing up too fast. Grin

Pinkemi · 06/01/2019 22:12

@maddiie3 and @teachermummy83 welcome!! So nice to see you guys. :-)

I started thinking about buying stuff for the baby but seeing as im only 13 weeks tomorrow.. might be a bit early. Grin plus we want to move house at some point so can't be filling the house yet with stuff.

Things going ok here.. just shattered all the time still!

Teachermummy83 · 06/01/2019 23:20

@Pinkemi, so nice to see another familiar name - Hope you’re well! I’m only 6 1/2 weeks so not buying, just trying to work out what’s best and writing lots of lists - just desperately trying not to jinx anything! 🤞🏼 I’m grabbing advice wherever I can get it as I don’t have a clue what I’m doing! Have spent so much time and energy getting here, I’ve now realised I’m clueless as to what I do now...... I’m more than a bit terrified!!

Pinkemi · 07/01/2019 09:25

@teachermummy83 i know how you feel about being terrified.. now im actually here im like wtf am i doing? Im such a wimp.. not looking forward to labour. (But then who does? 😂)

I can't believe i am now officially in the second trimester already!! Symptoms have declined a little but still not sleeping great. Im sure its my body prepping me for night feeds as it knows how grumpy i am on little sleep. 😂 my poor DH.

Pinkemi · 07/01/2019 09:26

Any of you guys who are further along.. did you sign up to any of those "freebie" sites? Like bounty etc. Ive signed up to bounty coz the hospital recommended it but dont seem to be getting many freebies from it.

Si1ver · 07/01/2019 09:31

No I didn't. Bounty specifically piss me off as they're a data harvesting company who have a reputation for preying on woman while they are vulnerable post partum. I would never voluntarily give them my details and it's actually in my birth plan to keep them away from me.

Not sure they're NHS recommended either. They pay the NHS for access to maternity wards.

WonkyDonk87 · 07/01/2019 12:40

Same here - if they come near me on a postnatal Ward they'll get a stern telling off and a lecture on ethical practices. Angry

I looked at a few of those sites but nothing seemed worth the junk emails tbh! The only freebie I did was the baby box Grin

Pinkemi · 07/01/2019 22:03

Oh no.. now i wish i hadnt signed up to them. :-(

Si1ver · 07/01/2019 22:11

You can exercise your right to be forgotten by them @Pinkemi, just request that they remove any data they hold on you and revoke your consent. It's quite easy under GDPR.

SoozC · 07/01/2019 23:36

I got two of the Emma's Diary packs but they're not worth it. The baby box was good though - a 25-pack of nappies and some wipes included and he uses the box every day!

I think I got lucky with the Bounty reps as it was Christmas Day when I was on the ward and I guess none of them want to work then Grin

Got a couple more weeks then I'm moving to reusable nappies - scary! I have reusable wipes too. So I'm going to be spending the next two weeks trying to figure out a system so I know how everything works and where it all goes. Plus I need to get in touch with the local nappy library and get a tester pack.

Also purchasing a breast pump to start expressing. DH is keen to help more so being able to feed will be good for both of us.

Speaking of breastfeeding, I was in a pub with my parents the other day and started to breastfeed. Both parents made comments about cover-ups you can buy. Then my mum actually went to cover me up with my cardigan but I told her not to! She said people might not want to see it. I said tough. She pushed the point so I told her I had a muslin in my bag and if she was offended I could use that. She said she wasn't offended. I replied that if people had a problem with my breastfeeding they could come and soak to me about it and I would explain the very natural thing I was doing to them.

I was surprised by my mum. She thinks breastfeeding is great, I never realised she'd be so prudish about me doing it in public! Before I started, I always thought I'd be the one too embarrassed to do it even in front of my parents, but now I've turned into some breastfeeding warrior woman who does it anytime, anywhere and doesn't attempt to cover up!

Pinkemi · 08/01/2019 11:09

so what Im hearing is.. dont bother signing up to anything because it is more hassle than it is worth! lol

@SoozC I would be really interested to see how you get on with the reusable nappies and wipes! This is something that I have been thinking about wanting to do when our Bubba is born.

MynameisJune · 08/01/2019 11:26

@sooz which nappies did you go with? I’ve got cheeky wipes already but used disposables. Keen to be more environmentally friendly this time round but struggling to make a decision on which nappies!

Teachermummy83 · 08/01/2019 14:37

Ladies, can i ask what is probably a really daft question?
Where do you all stand on Hair Dye? Just realised i'm booked in for my normal Highlights appointment (with a colour touch between, in case that makes any difference?) this weekend and will be 7+2 at that point.... I'd read that hair dye in the first trimester was a no-no. Hubby thinks thats crazy and I'm being over-cautious??? can;t see much online, except that highlights are better than all over dye? I'd ask my hairdresser, but as we're keeping this really quiet until the 12 week scan, i don't really want to talk about it in the salon - you know what hairdressers are like for gossip!
Would you go ahead or cancel?

Si1ver · 08/01/2019 14:42

I think I would go ahead. I'm quite risk adverse when it comes to my pregnancy, but I've dyed my hair throughout as I couldn't find any definitive medical proof on hair dye.
