TA- your body sounds as though it's doing a perfectly good job on it's own. These fecking blanket hospital policies, as someone rightly out it yesterday- are a load of shite for the most part, and designed with cost-effectiveness in mind.
Like you, I won't be accepting induction of it involves beinf hooked up to a drip and to ave this child forced from my body. It will come when it's ready, as will yours.

trendaverter · 16/06/2007 07:53

Daisy, yes I think you are quite right - something is obviously happening, albeit slowly, so whilst both myself and LO are coping ok I don't see the need for intervention.

I totally agree re the understanding of childbirth in the medical profession, every woman is different, I accept that in most cases they are trying to reduce risk or even litigation, I think I am ok for a few more days yet.

Hopefully things will kick off today for me.

You have been very supportive to all us first timers, our own virtual doula! Thank you

trendaverter · 16/06/2007 07:55

Yay Pingu!
We will shun the NHS together!

How many days over are you? I could look it up but I am lazy.

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 08:01

A week, and while I'm farking pissed off, I won't be harrassed into induction to satisfy their little baby factory ethos.

Lets unite TA!

trendaverter · 16/06/2007 08:05

Good for you Pingu
I agree completely - I really feel that once you go to that hospital, you can end up in a cascade of intervention... one thing leads to another.
The ARM leads to the drip, to the epidural, to the forceps, to the head monitoring, etc etc!
I figure while I feel ok, and while I am not worried (although pissed off yes), they needn't be either!

Obviously I generalise and have heard some very positive induction stories, I don't want to voluntarily put myself into a position where I might be one of the horror ones!

trendaverter · 16/06/2007 08:13

Pingu, interesting site Here

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 08:14

I agree- nothing in life is guaranteed, and I'm thanakful to be living in a era where there is help if necessary- I just don't want to be over-treated unnecessarily either. I'll be keeping a fairly open mind about pain relief etc...but what I don't want is for my baby to be birthed in a stressful environment- all for the sake of a day or 2.

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 08:16

Intersting site TA- thanks for the link

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 08:23

Morning, just thought I'd see if anyone had made any progress... but no. Here you are, all still here.

Might as well go back to bed then.

Tallulahbelle, hope you are OK and things are starting for you. Saw your last post and I know how hard it is to make your own judgements when you feel you are 'going against' the experts.

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 08:26

You know, when I hear things like 'we'll only let you go over by 12 days, or, ' you'll have to go in', it really maddens me. They make it sound like the pregnancy olice will drag you in by your hair, and that you'll be willingly risking the health of your child if you dont.
When I think of my hospital closing their doors to the public yesterday cos they had 2 midwives and 9 labouring women, or having a 'no inductions carried out at weekends' policy, it makes me realise how much they are chatting out their asses. How come going over term isn't a matter of life or death at weekends? How come they can close a hospital door on you, yet YOU are the one playing russian roulette with the health of your child?

grrrr,!

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 08:29

Foxy...what are you doing up? Languish in that bed till lunchtime......it might be the last chance you get for a very long time!!

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 08:32

LOL pingu....apparently the hospital I was delivered at had shut their doors the weekend before I went in as they had run out of cots......plenty of beds and MWs, but no cots!!

They had also cancelled all non-emergency sections as the toilets had been leaking...into the operating theatre! I didn't find this out until I was on the ward...and can only hope it had been cleaned up properly!!

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 08:36

my word daisy...if induction policies can seemingly fly out the window cos of a cot shortage, then theres hope for all of us 'overdue-ers'

lol

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 08:40

good god! more good reasons for a HB!

we all know how MWs are under enormous strain, but what on earth are you meant to do?

I'm up because I'm hungry and enjoying the peace! Got the papers, bowl of Rice Krispies, cup of tea, the sound of ...nothing! No drinks to fetch, no breakfast to make, no swimming lessons to go to!

I don't want to miss a minute of it!

Daisy, sounds like a really good night. My fingers are crossed that its the first of many more for you!

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 08:43

It was a great nights sleep for me, but sleeping on top of DH isn't really the solution......especially as he'll be back in Lincolnshire through the week very soon

Enjoy your peace and tranquility Foxy...it's lovely isn't it.

I've really been enjoying it through the day here, with Em sleeping in her pram, and the radio on low and just sitting enjoying the ambience.

Feel the neeed to get on with life though....my babymoon is officially over!

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 08:46

Ah, yes, the reality of life with 2!

How is Mystic Red Ranger coping with the changes? Is he embracing big brother status or kicking against it?

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 08:56

I have just put the tv on to watch Saturday Kitchen JUST BECAUSE I CAN.

How sad am I?

Still got "Here come the Power Rangers, here come the Power Rangers" theme in my head though!

bumperlicious · 16/06/2007 09:10

Morning all,

TA, was hoping that there'd be no sign of you around this morning as I expected you to be in full on labour , still, just think, your body is getting LOADS of practice so lets hope for a one hour jobby a la derlor (who we all bow down to!)

Pingu and Tallulah, sending some labour vibes your way too. Hope all goes well for all three of you, and that you get the births YOU WANT.

Morning Foxy, glad you enjoying your weekend! And glad you got some sleep daisy.

Ria, hope you DH came back last night. I know what it's like to be frustrated with DH's job. My DH get treated like shit from his job, they'll say things like "you've got 5 days annual leave and you have to take it in the next two weeks or lose it" and he can't take any time off between November and January. Really pissed me off coz I work for the civil service and while it's not brilliantly paid they are so flexible with leave workers rights in general.

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 09:27

LOL Foxy....I'm singing it too now.

He loves her to bits....a little bit too much and is always poking and prodding at her. But he just wants to give her lots of kisses and cuddles, which is sweet

annobal · 16/06/2007 09:51

Morning all,

I was certain that someone would have delivered in the night - perhaps tonight? Good luck to TA, Pingu and Tallulah - sending you lots of fast labour vibes.

We're walking down to Lewisham again today - after extolling the virtues of TK Maxx to DH, he wants to have a look (I'm hoping this TK Maxx phase is just pg hormones and I'll soon come to my senses ). It was either that or going to Bluewater and I don't think I really could cope with that today...

LOL DH and the kids are all upstairs singing to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (will you still love me forever sung in the style of some not so long forgotten punk band) - hope that gets Power Rangers out of your mind Foxy.

riabutterflew · 16/06/2007 10:00

Morning all. Have changed my mind. Can't be arsed with ANYTHING, won't be allowed out very far (my Mum has visions of me going into labour somewhere inconvenient by myself with the boys...) so will be here nearly ALL DAY.

DH came home eventually (still having a job for what it's worth!). We had takeaway and watched Dirty Dancing. How sad are we. Need to have this baby so he can take time off... He is thinking of giving it all up and doing something else, the only thing is I don't think he can do anything else, and he LOVES being a chef. (I have no vocation and no ambition so I think he should stick with it, just somewhere else, but sadly, with the east coast not being the gastro-epicentre of the north, he's running out of options.) Sorry, BORING. (It's always worse at weekends!)

riabutterflew · 16/06/2007 10:07

I am amazed! Our post has just come and in the manner of all small children DS2 went to get it. He said "it looks like it's for me" and it was! I suppose that's one of the advantages of having a name beginning with X, but I fear he won't bother learn to spell his full name and will just use "X" for everything!

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 10:15

oooooh ria, intruiging....now thinking what names begin with X?

can only think of Xavier so far

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 10:17

my baby's skin has gone all peely.....like old sunburn. don't remember this happening with DS.

Is this normal, or the start of something sinistr like exczema (sp?)

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 10:33

thanks for the labour vibes ladies!

I'm actually about to go on a jaunt to wales (we live in manchester) with DP. He needs to pick something up for work and is having a crisis that I might go into labour while he's away. (fat chance!). I can't really be arsed to go, but think I'll get mysekf out the house for a while, even if it is to sit in a car for 3 hours. Might eat considerably less choccie when he's around as well. (I said maybe)

Have a lovely day girls , good luck to TA and Tallulah as well!
