I've only been off line 5 mins and there's a squillion posts - must be the weekend. Imagine what it will be like when we are on mat leave!

Ara - Your bosses sound like a right load of facists. Again I recommend the method | suggested to RG re her house move - a dark alley and a piece of 2 by 4. You could even club together and get someone to do it for you - you might get discount for bulk.

Choudru - seem to remember the art techer in my last school doing a unit on henna and body art. I'll check it out. If it's part of the art curriculum you'll be on to a winner.
Don't know if it is SPD - I'm trying not too worried and see how it goes for a couple of weeks before i go to docs. Have just been for a gentle swim and am still feeling ok. Who knows I might yet make it to yoga.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Choudru - I'm e-mailing my friend about your housing dilemmas to see if she has any pearls of wisdom to offer. Can you remind me- are you looking to rent or buy?

I know it mights seem a bit early but has anyone thought about what kind of birth they want to go for? I'm thinking HB although not sure if they'll let me as it's my first...

littleoldme · 24/06/2007 19:52

Ara - you'll find this thread helpful Childbirth :Homebirth for first baby - did you plan one, and did you have one? Being technolocially incapable I couldn't figure how to put in a direct link. Loopy is a veritable mine of info on this topic and will help you loads.

Loopy - I think you should go for midwife thing. Imagine doing a job involving something you are passionate about. That would be fulfilling.

i think i do want to...i'm not a fan of hosp after spending a while there when i was younger! for some reason i thought they might not be supportive of a fist birth at home?? I'm not scared of the birth (in fact I'm looking forward to it) but not at all good with needles/blood tests/general hospital paraphernalia. Of course i won't be able to avoid all that if i desperately need it but would rather be in an atmosphere where i feel relaxed etc. Did all of yours go really smoothly loopy?

ara · 24/06/2007 19:59

thanks for link!

I'm going for a HWB too. My MW said that i could have my baby wherever i liked after i told her that my consultant said "i would not be a suitable candidate for a HB". All because of my BMI. I know my body. It will be able to cope with a HWB. I did a natural birth 17 years ago so why not again now, hmm???

ara · 24/06/2007 20:38

Thanks for all that!! It's good to hear it all. At the moment I'm reliant on my 'ready steady baby' book and t'internet.

All being well, I'm not a fan of any drugs for anything so if i can avoid it then, the way i see it, so much the better for me and the baby.

Of course i do realise that might go out of the window when the time comes but i know i have a v high pain threshold and i do believe if i can be relaxed and 'welcoming' about it then that will make a huge difference to me.

I haven't even discussed it with MW yet (haven't even met her yet actually!) but will see her on the 16th and broach the idea then.

Don't read if feeling queasy or easily upset.

Have had some horrible news yesterday about an employees wife who has just had a baby and had to be taken back in with an infection- turns out it was caused by a swab being left in situ.

Anyway I am now petrified of a hospital birth but due to having ITP (blood doens't clot properly) i don't really get a choice

Ara - told you Loopy would be able to help!! I'd ideally like a homebirth too but I want to do it because it's best (whatever that means) and not just co's I don't fancy hosp. the thing is - if anything went wrong and I wasn't in hosp I don't think I could live with myself. Then again ...

Loopy - you're a start and we are lucky to have you.

littleoldme · 24/06/2007 21:16

Loopy - that should have been star

Pixiefish · 24/06/2007 21:16

No other hospital within travelling distance really. Where I'll be going si half an hour away.

We're very rural. According to her dh she tired out during labour (as you do) and she gave up so as a result she was cut and had a forceps delivery.

I had an epidural and then ventouse/episiotomy (I think due to the epidural) so I have thought this time that if I manage without the epidural then intervention might be less. Also have had a test for a certain antibody- if this is present then I can have steoids befoer the birth which willlessen the risk of blood loss

I had an episiotomy (sp??) with DS1. Will this make a difference to whether or not a HWB would be suitable? I'm hoping it doesn't!
