j20baby · 09/06/2007 09:50

wow, this has moved quickly, have skimmed it, but yet again can't remember who said what!

gemma~congrats on the little boy

haven't been on much for a couple of days as all the kittens have finally gone, so been sanding and glossing the baby's room, was meant to be putting lining paper up last night but was so tired, i fell asleep on the couch for an hour after the school run, and then went to my friends for tea, dd went to my step dads for the night, so i hsve to go pick her up to take her to her dads soon.

on the subject of dc wanting to know how the baby gets out~well my dd is a bit of a freak, and her all time favourite activity is reading brochures and catalogues(she gets very upset when i throw the Argos one away) so she reads all my pg books, and err she told me how it'll be coming out and also that i shouldn't lay on my back, shouldn't lift anything heavy, not to climb ladders, not to touch cat poo...etc...who needs a man to look after me?!!

well, i suppose i better go do something, have a lovely weekend everyone

Pheebe · 09/06/2007 20:49

Evening all

Just a quickie, so apologies for not catching up with everyones news, should have more time tomorow. W

e went to see the 'other' hospital today and definitely going to switch. It seemed much calmer, cleaner and more homely and a much nicer place to give birth. Also ordered a book on hypnobirthing so starting to feel a bit better about the whole thing. I've also been told to ask to see my notes and go through them with my new consultant to try and figure out where things went wrong and get a rough plan in place. MW there also confirmed that there was no way I should have been left pushing for 2 hours on my own and that wouldn't happen there ever. Yay, maybe I can do this after all

Hope everyones having a good weekend, did you watch Dr Who??? Nightmares tonight I fear

Take care all

MrsFish · 09/06/2007 21:00

Hi All

Well I am well and truly knackered. Had a fabulous day though, the weather was perfect if a little too hot, for me anyway, ds seemed to have a great time and has really got the hang of opening presents now, he has had loads! He had a couple of tumbles and whilst climbing on his chair fell into one of the metal planters in the patio and split his lip, but it didn't keep him down for long Don't know where I am going to put everything

Will post a pic of him in my profile soon as I have chance

Anyone else suffering from hayfever, I have had it awful today for some reason, don't usually suffer from it too badly. Is there anything we can safely take or is it a put up and shut up job?

Hope you had a good day on the beach Buffy.

J20 hope you got your decorating finished. That is our plan tomorrow, getting ds's new bedroom all sorted out so he can go in it, that is if we can find anywhere that keeps single mattresses in stock that we can bring home with us

Hope everyone else has a good weekend of what is left of it

nellieloula · 09/06/2007 21:37

Hi everyone; so pleased the party was a success Mrs Fish - I am struggling with hayfever too....not taking anything for it though, just suffering in not too much silence!

Pheeb- that's great news about the hospital. sounds much better; my MW advised that if there is anything specific I want to happen at the birth to get the consultant to write it in my notes, as midwives always read those but often don't really consider a birth plan. good tip I think!

Is anyone else getting tightening pains that go on for ages? is it too early for braxton hicks at 20 weeks? feels like I've eaten WAY too much, the bump is really tight - not sure what that is.

anyway, hope everyone else is well and that back pain is subsiding.

alicet · 09/06/2007 21:43

Nellie I had what turned out to be braxton hicks at 18 weeks - initially they were uynsure that was what it was though as it was so early so I was signed off work for a week in case it was a threatened miscarriage. Basically you can get them that early but if I was you I would take it easy and reast as much as you can in the meantime and call your midwife on Monday (or call your hospital that you're booked in at if it gets worse or anything else happens like bleeding).

MrsFish really happy that your party went well and good luck finding room for all his pressies!

Pheebe great news you've found a hospital you're happy with - it does sound good from your description. I would second nellie's advice you should get the consultant to write anythig you feel strongly about in your notes.

Hi Everyone, I thought I was busy yesterday by going and getting a lot of shopping and presents in town, but compared to you lot I feel like I had a quiet day!!

Gemma congrats on your scan and lovely to know that you are having a boy.

Well as everyone seems to be having so much trouble choosing names I thought I would share our lists so far. I would be interested to hear your comment and don't worry about offending as we haven't decided yet!

Girls names, Caitlin, Zoe, Alison, Abigail, Alex

Boys names, Zack, Noah, Oliver, Dylan, Christopher, Rowan, Ethan, Joshua

Not really sure about the names though! Will keep looking.

betsycoe · 10/06/2007 12:22

Hi everyone,
congratulations on your little boy Gemma.

I've had a really tiring day yesterday. We went to the Knaresborough bed race and I spent 7 hours walking around in the heat (my feet were like meat pies by the end of the day). We went straight to an engagement party afterwards and ended up staying way longer than I wanted.

I'm currently not speaking with DH as I told him that I wanted to leave at 8 and he insisted on making me wait until he finished his drink (which he made last for an hour!). This isn't the first time. A few weeks ago I ended up leaving him at a friends BBQ at midnight as I was shattered and he wanted to stay up. Typical, before I got pregnant he was always the one clock watching and now he has turned into a night owl!

I can't work out if it just the hormones or if he deserves to suffer the wrath. At least when I wasn't pregnant I always 'knew' that I was right but these days I'm not so sure... Roll on October!

buffythenappyslayer21 · 10/06/2007 16:02

hi everyone!

the beach was ok,but too many people driving their sodding cars waya bove the 10mph speed limit, people taking their dogs into the "no dogs" area, and dd wanting to sit in the sea-fully clothed!think it might be teh hormones again, but have decided to complain to gwynedd council about the beach patrol.they obviously arent doing their jobs, they were sat in the hut with their feet up!dh wasnt allowed to use his doodah on the beach until after 8pm,so he wasnt happy.i wasnt happy about the speed people were driving near small children, and when a staffie came near dd i went nuts!!it was probably a really friendly dog,but it had been let off the lead,dd was building sandcastles and it came bounding upto her!weve got a dog,but if i was on the ebach with him no way would i let him off teh lead, especially near small children.

so tomorrow im complaining!(definately a mixture of hormones and heat!!)

cant remember who asked about tightenings.ive been getting bh for the past few weeks.mw said the more children you have the earlier you get them.

went to glynllifon parc today.was really nice but again too hot.there was a steam rally on with loads of old cars so dh and bil were in there element!walked for what felt like miles and was nearly on my knees by the time we got back to the car!my pelvis didnt appreciate all that walking and im now in sodding agony!!

god im a moanalot today!!sorry!!hate this heat!anyone know when were due for some rain and cooler weather!?!

anyway,dh and bil have taken the kids for a walk to the shops because im in need of some jammie dodgers!!!

hope everyones ok!sorry to moan again!!

FloriaTosca · 10/06/2007 17:52

Hi All
The wedding yesterday was absolutely beautiful, the couple were utterly gorgeous and the weather was glorious, not a single glitch to spoil a perfect day at a fabulous venue (well apart from eating too much and giving myself the worst dose of indigestion and having half a glass of champers which gave me a headache!).This is the first time all Dhs family have seen my bump and it was wonderful how excited and happy everyone is for us....even the cousin who had her little boy the day before Robyn should have been due and who was so terribly insensitive before was very tactful this time. When it came to the end of the night the DJ had us all dancing in a circle round the happy couple and coming in a few at a time to give them a final kiss and congratulations, and as we all finished the bride looked round to see if anyone had been missed, spotted me (I had been in amongst the first to go up) and suddenly rushed to me and kissed my bump saying "cant miss this one out!" I nearly cried!
Must admit though the hotel was great I was glad to get home, partly because there must have been a field of oil seed rape nearby and my hayfever really kicked in but also because LO decided that it was quiet time for the whole 36 hrs we were away and I couldnt feel any movement at all...thank goodness for the doppler once we got home..and as usual LO decided to do the tango once I had stopped worrying!...though like Alicets lo s/he wont cooperate for Daddy yet!
Inzi I'm glad the pain insn't so acute now...but please do try to take it easy!

OP posts:
MrsFish · 10/06/2007 19:26

Buffy - that's a pity about the beach

Floria - Glad you had a good day at the wedding.

We have been out today and got ds a new mattress for his new bed, it is one of those foam ones, so impressed we have bought ourselves a new one too (I have wanted one for ages)

I have just put ds to bed in his new room in his new big boys bed, so far so good, I hope he is ok all night. We have put a safety rail on it so he shouldn't fall out. I guess only time will tell now

Will be having an early night tonight I think, the past two days have really caught up with me and I am knackered.

MrsFish · 10/06/2007 19:29

Polarmummy - I like Caitlin and Abigail out of the girls choices,

and Zack, Oliver and Joshua out of the boys. Noah seems to be really popular atm I know of at least 3 in the past couple of months.

j20baby · 10/06/2007 21:40

Hi all, got replies for all your posts but so tired, just have to post a quickie tonight!

was wallpapering lo's room yesterday and today, didn't stop till midnight last night, and only then cos i had a dizzy spell, so i thought i'd better have something to eat and go to bed, also my feet and legs where bright purple, so i think i'd been on my feet too long! then got up early to finish putting lining paper on, painted it and then laid the carpet, finally finished at 8pm and had a lovely bath and now going to bed soon, i don't really know how i've managed to keep going, but it needed doing by tommorrow and i'm at work in morning so i had to do it by tonight, as i'm having the kitchen put in on tue, so needed to get the carpet out the way, and obviously i couldn't do that till i had done the walls! sorry if i'm not making sense, just so tired!

i keep getting bh and my stomach is really quite achy at the moment as well, but at least i get to have a rest at work

off to bed now, glad everyone seems to have had a nice weekend

Pheebe · 11/06/2007 07:58

Morning all

Seems like we all had a busy and fun filled weekend

My mum n dad cam over for the day yesterday, they've been on holiday for 2 weeks so we got to look through over 200 photos and half an hour of video...feel like I was there with em now

I've been getting BH too, don't remember getting them at all with DS1. Yesterday bump was rock hard all afternoon and evening, eased off when I had a bath but still very achy. Bub was wriggling fine so I wasn't worried.

2 days to my scan YIPPEE. DH and DS are both definitely coming with me which will be weird as neither of em have been to anything so far

Names wise we're sorted if its a girl but can't decide about a boy, our surname is 3 syllables starting with an L and ending with ON (sounds like chardes ) which makes it a bit tough. I like Freddie Jon of Daniel Jon at the mo. Today I'm conveinced we're having a girl though...roll on wednesdday

Right DS wants his brekkie, have a good day everyone

FloriaTosca · 11/06/2007 08:02

J20 I understand the need for getting the carpet out of the way and wanting to finish the room in order to do so but really that was overdoing things! No wonder your legs turned purple and you got dizzy! and no wonder you got aches and pains! I do hope you are ok today and that you got a decent nights rest. I hope the new kitchen goes in smoothly for you an dis everything you hoped for...but dont over do it cleaning up!

FloriaTosca · 11/06/2007 08:40

Good Morning Pheebe. Glad your parents had a good time. I wish we were going on holiday this year but we only moved into this house in Dec and need a new patio door (3.6m wide!)and besides all the general decoration the boiler is 25yrs old so that needs replacing too, so with LO on the way, not much chance of sun, sea and sand this year for us . Like the names esp. Daniel...I know a couple of really nice Daniels . I have a feeling that mine is a boy (I'm carrying very differently from the little girl I lost)and so far like Ross, Marcus and Alexander...Dh vetoed Marius . My favourite girls name at the moment is Alicia/Alyssia (cant decide on spelling), we also like Elizabeth, Eleanor, Isobel,Zoe and Ninel. I also love the names Caitlin, Jessica, Emily and Felicity but my cousins bagged those.
Mum just phoned; apparently she got my brother to buy me a brand new Amby Natures Nest off ebay last night.. so now I have my cot/crib! So much for not buying anything until we know we have a baby for certain!!!! . I only mentioned the other day that I liked to idea of the Amby because (I'm told)I was a dreadful sleeper as a baby and both my brother and I suffered terrible colic and reflux..the hammock style crib apparently can help relieve those things having a more womb like feel and slightly raised upper body position than a flat bed...Mum obviously thought it was a good idea too hence the pressie
Have a good Monday eveyone

OP posts:
Pheebe · 11/06/2007 10:19

Hmm just realised, DS1 is called Jack so if this one is another boy we'll be introducing em as Jack and Daniel (Jack Daniels - the whisky...)

FloriaTosca · 11/06/2007 11:12

Haaa! my Dh would go for that!!!!
When we got married I only accepted on condition that if we had a dd she would NOT be named Stella! The love of Stella Artois that he and his mates have would confuse/scar the poor kid for life!

Morning all (well, just about) ... before I get down to writing some more reports, I thought I'd better catch up - it's taken me 20 minutes to read through and make notes!

J20 - very impressed at your dd telling you what's happening - I daren't let ds get anywhere near any of my baby books (not that I've got them out this time - I didn't dare until after 12 weeks, and since then I haven't been able to get up into the loft to get them down - and now I can't be bothered!)
Well done on the decorating, but take it easy!

Pheebe - glad the other hospital was good. I'll be thinking of you for your scan tomorrow.

MrsFish - happy birthday to ds - I hope he slept well last night in his new bed.

Nellie - I've been getting bh for a while - as long as they're associated with bleeding, then they should be fine - I'm also getting stomach pain if I eat too much ... that's no fun!

inzi - glad your back is feeling a little better. at you cooking enough to feed an army - do you fancy coming around to my house to do the same?

polarmummy - I love Caitlin, Alyson (Alys is one of our possibilities), Dylan and Rowan.
I'm always put off some names by having taught horrible examples of them - it's not so much of a problem in the school where I am now, as the kids either seem to be Ahmed / Mohammed - or Chelsie / Whitney / Kortney ... (spellings are genuine ...
One of the boys in my year 9 class asked me if I would call my child Mohammed if he was a boy - he didn't seem to see that it wouldn't necessarily be appropriate for a practising Christian!

betsycoe - at your dh on your behalf! I probably would have left him there ... (but then I'm a mean harridan of a woman!)

buffy - at people speeding and letting dogs off leads on the beach - how dull is that? You go girl with your complaining letter...

floria - the wedding sounds wonderful - got all teary at the bride kissing your bump ...
It's all your fault - I have to look at this crib now!

Well, this weekend has been lovely, but I'm glad for a rest now ... we spent most of the time out in the garden - except for yesterday afternoon when ds had a party to go to at one of these play barn things ... it was soooooo hot!
I like to take ds as it's the only chance I get to meet the other mums from his class, but this playbarn place is truly awful ... ds decided yesterday that he'd like his birthday there - all because the birthday girl / boy gets to sit on a throne! Mind you, he also wants an airplane party (God only knows what one of those entails) ... mind you, given that his birthday is 2 days after the edd of Madam Bean, I don't think I'll be organising much for his actual birthday!

Just a little story about names. When I was pg with ds, dh & I used to joke that we'd call the child Charles Rhys ... it would be shortened to Chips Rice ..and give you half 'n' half ... a commonly requested delicacy in the chipshops in central Cardiff (where we lived) - writing it down doesn't do it justice really - you have to do it with a Cardiff accent - think Charlotte Church talking (mind you, she's posh Cardiff) - wonder if she posts on MN - she's expecting around the same time as us ...

Ok, now I'm rambling - I shall stop procrastinating, and get on with these reports ...

alicet · 11/06/2007 13:14

Hi all,

Been a bit manic of late - dh is away (back tomorrow - yippee!) so have been a bit busy looking after ds. He has been an absolute star though and I've really enjoyed his company.

After a couple of weeks of FINALLY sleeping through the night he chose last night to wake at 4.30. He was chuntering on for a hour until he started shouting and I got up wishing I'd just done it at 4.30!!! Usually when he chatters on to himself like that he settles back down... Oh well never mind! H ewent back to sleep and didn't wake till 8.30 but I couldn't really sleep so am shattered now. He's been a bit grizzly this am so I wonder how much sleeping he did....

Need to go and do some work now while he sleeps - I am at a course in London on Thursday for work and have quite a lot of preparation to do.

Good luck to those of you who have scans this week!

Like most of the names that have been mentioned (although can't remember now what they were can remember liking them when I read through the thread!) Dylan particularly stuck in my mind although I can't remember who mentioned it. I love it - wanted that as one of the options for our ds but dh doesn't like it - thinks it will get shortened to Dill and that that isn't great.

Glad the wedding went well floria - I also got a bit emotional at the thought of the bride kissing your bump!

Not long now until the lo's would have a fighting chance if born early - I remember feeling much more relaxed after 24 weeks last time and even more so after 30 weeks....

ANyway better go and do some work! The incentive is that if I manage to get it all done then one of my mates is coming over for a takeaway tonight - her ds is the same age as mine and she is also expecting due 3 days after me! If I don't get it done won't see her for a couple of weeks as she is off on holiday on friday.... SO off to work now! Will catch up later....

nellieloula · 11/06/2007 14:23

Hi everyone - glad you all seem well and that weddings and beaches were good! Had a good weekend, although I can't remember what we did, except I had yet another pregnancy hormonal meltdown last night - just feel so overwhelmed sometimes. But I went to a new class with DS this morning, where everyone was lovely and I know I need to get past the exhaustion and just do more of that really. Also DH has found out that from July he'll be able to come home from work during the week (currently only here at weekends) which will be a lot easier. Does anyone else struggle with getting their DH/DP's to understand just what this is like? Mine listens and says he understands that I feel isolated, lonely, tired etc but then, lovely as he is, does nothing about it!!!! Any tips greatly appreciated!

Also Alice, thank you so much for the birth plan. Picked it up at the weekend and is really useful. thanks.

have a good day everyone (even if there are reports, decorating and conference prep to do - although I sincerely hope j20 has put a stop to the decorating and is recuperating now!!) Good luck for the scans tomorrow.

MrsFish · 11/06/2007 14:31

Well apart from one incident ds slept brilliantly in his new room and bed. We were woken at 2.30am by a loud bang followed by crying, when we went in he was on the floor, god knows what he did as it had a safety thing on it, he must have tried to climb over it, who knows. Anyway he went back to sleep quite readily and even stayed in it once awake until I went in to him at 7.30. I hope he carries on being so good

ejt1764 · 11/06/2007 14:51

I finished the set of reports I had set myself to do today! Hurray!

Only 3 more sets to do!

Mumpbump · 11/06/2007 15:31

Afternoon all! I am knackered today - had two people over for dinner on Saturday night and then 6 people (4 adults, 2 children) over for Sunday lunch. Spent the whole weekend either shopping, cooking or tidying/cleaning up! And have work to do - trying to psych myself up to reading through a whole load of documents, but struggling so thinking about leaving it until tomorrow - again!!! Glad everyone has had enjoyable weekends.

Good luck to Karlou and Iniz for their scans tomorrow... Will hopefully post a bit more once I have had a good night's sleep tonight!
