Kezza, so sorry to hear of your friend's loss a similar thing happened (albeit to a friend of a friend iyswim) when I was pregnant with dd1 and my friend just didn't want to tell me at the time. I really hope your friend is as ok as she can be and that your friendship does grow stronger. Take care and enjoy your holiday!
Buffy, good luck with your scan, hope all goes well, I'm sure it will
I'm definitely going to ask about vbac sessions at my local hospital, it's something I'd definitely like to know more about.
Whoever recommended the breast feeding book (something like hiw to breastfeed and what to do if you can't!) thank you, ordered in from amazon and it arrived last night.Looks really good.
I', going to have to go and read to dd as she has just arrived at my side with her shopping trolley fullof books saying sahe wants as story. I could be here for some time ladies!!

HonorMatopoeia · 07/06/2007 14:40

X posts buffy!
Excellent news so pleased for you! House news is fabulous too, great to think you could be settled in a new place by the time Dd arrives. Btw, Love Lily Grace, it's a beautiful name. x

ejt1764 · 07/06/2007 15:04

Afternoon all ... I can't believe how much we're all nattering at the moment!

I've got a physio appointment in an hour - she's had a cancellation, so will be having another look at me!

I'm still throwing up all sorts of things - paracetemol amongst them, so I haven't ben able to have any pain relief - somebody suggested I ask for suppositories - so I did GP thought it was a wonderful idea - I 'took' 2 last night and had the best night's sleep I've had in absolutely ages! Apparently, I look shocking this morning - very heavy-eyed according to my mum who's come round to clean (I do pay her!)

As for the c section / vbac decision, I'm doing everything in my power to get a vbac this time around - I totted up how long my last birth experience was and it was 100 hours ... all the interventions under the sun ... I got to fully dilated, and was pushing for a loooong time, and ds got stuck. They tried a ventouse delivery, but couldn't get him out as he was well and truly wedged - couldn't use forceps as I had spd and it could have done all sorts of damage, and I had to have a cs. My feelings are that I've tried it the medical way - now I want to do what my body wants to do! I'm hoping to go to the mw led unit - will have discussions with mw about it at my next appointment.
Consultant has agreed that induction / epidural are not the way to go, so there's really no reason for me to be in the consultant-led unit!

If it gets to the stage that I'm really overdue (42+), then I'll think about an elective - but the acupuncturist seems to thik that she'll make sure I don't get that far!

Kezza - I'm really sorry to hear about your friend's loss.

Inzi - I really hope the physio is helpful - and I hope it's not a prolapsed disc!

buffy - fab news about your scan! Another pink one to add to the list!

Gemma - good luck for your scan today!

Right, going to try to get myself moving to go to the hospital for physio ... it could take a while .......

MrsFish · 07/06/2007 15:10

Congrats Buffy and I LOVE the name

nellieloula · 07/06/2007 15:52

beautiful name Buffy and well done! hope the physio apps go well.

FloriaTosca · 07/06/2007 16:15

Kezza .I'm so sorry for your friend . Like Inzi, I lost my dd but just at 17 wks last Sept.(fine scan on the Tues am., no heart beat on the Weds pm, delivered on the Fri am)and 4..yes 4!..friends and relations were due at the same time...2 handled it pefectly; they came round or phoned and cried with me, shared their fears, kept in touch, checked that I knew they would be at certain events over the following months(so seeing their tums didnt upset me) and when the babies arrived both went to great lengths to introduce me to their LOs in private when I was ready...the 3rd emigrated so didnt affect me but the last turned up at places I didnt expect her while hugely pregnant, then turned up at all sorts of events with the baby (born at 11pm the night before my dds edd), she even brought him to a hen do! without ever bothering to warn me ..and never once did she mention my loss or offer any empathy or sympathy, but carried on as if my dd had never existed..when my DH brooched the subject she said that she assumed that I had "got over it by now", that, for me, was the worst way to handle things. I dont think I will ever "get over" Robyn but I'm learning to live with her loss. I'm sure you will be there for you friend and will help each other through this difficult time.

Buffy I'm so glad for you, and I think the name is just lovely

Inzi I hope the prolapsed disc is a misdiagnosis and the physio manages to give you some relief today....and I hope you are right about my dream, it has been repeating itself in my head all day....

Well retail therapy the Trafford centre didnt lift my mood much...I think I need to get on ebay for another dose

Congrats buffy - I love the name too!

Nellie usually your recovery would be more straightforward after an elective section than an emergency one but obviously running round after a toddler would make it less straightforward....

Kezza really sorry to hear about your friend. My thoughts are with her and you....

HMP the vbac session was just a discussion of any questions we had. useful and rgeat to tsalk it through with other ladies in the same situation but didn't really tell me anything I didn't know. If your local hospital doesn't offer one it might be worth checking if another in your area does - one of the ladies who came was booked in elsewhere.

Completely brain dead today so hello and big hugs to everyone else - will try and read through all your news again later as having thought of loads of things I wanted to say to you all whilst reading your latest installment have promptly forgotton!!!! Baby brain is well and truely alive and well....

Kezza, sorry to hear about your friend, my thoughts and prayers are with her and you.

Buffy glad the scan went well and I love the name also, hope all the baby things you have bought so far are neutral or Pink

Inzi glad the physio app went ok, although I do hope that you won't have back the pain throughout the rest of your pregnancy, I have always thought that toothache and back pain are two of the worst types of pain you can have, no doubt I will be adding labour pain to those thoughts!!

Can't remember who it was who asked if anyone else is freaking out about the birth and I know this sounds awfuk to say but I am glad some other people are because it makes me feel more normal! I am just trying to tell myself that in the grand scheme of things (ie my whole life) it really only goes on for a short period of time!!!! Plus most of you already have a dc so it can't really be that bad can it???

Pheebe · 08/06/2007 07:54

Morning everybody
Mega busy day yesterday! DS had his little girlfriend from nursery round in the morning then DH came home early and took us swimming and out for dinner Can't believe how tired I am today though!

Inzi, glad to hear there's some progress for you, take it easy and let your body heal itself and let yer mum come and help

Kezza, so so sorry to hear about your friends loss, I can only imagine what ahe and you are going through

Buffy, absolutely love the name! If we have a girl we're thinking about Rebecca Grace or Rebecca Phoebe. We already have a Lily in the family else I thnk I'd have chosen Lily Mae. Only 6 days to go til (hopefully) we find out!

Glad I'm not the only one with 'birth nerves'. Polar, you're right, in the grand scheme of things it's not so bad and I have heard of some women who say they even enjoyed it!!! But it does hurt, its very undignified and given the choice I'd much rather just skip it and get on with breast feeding In some ways I think (and hope) the anticipation second time around is probably worse than the reality. We're off to see an alternative hospital tomorow as I just can't bear the thought of going back to the same one that I had DS in, hopefully, that'll settle me down again.

Right I'm starving now, toast and dairy lea beckon, yum. Have a good day everyone

buffythenappyslayer21 · 08/06/2007 09:19

morning everybody!

havent read all the posts again!but will make time to do so later!!

kids were so happy that were having another girl!(apart from ds2,he sulked for about an hour and then asked if we change it for a boy!)

new washer and dryer arrived yesterday but comet bodged up again!!when we ordered them, they over charged us,and when they arrived yesterday there was supposed to be 6 months free wash liquid, but there wasnt.dh rang comet customer services and they said it ahd not been added to the order.(despite dh double checking when we placed the order that it was)so were now waiting to hear from them as the department that deals with it werent there when dh rang last night.

am soooo excited about the house being finished early!just worried that we wont have saved up enough money to carpet everywhere!!!

never mind, hope everyone is ok,good luck gemma fr today!!

betsycoe · 08/06/2007 10:06

Congratulations Buffy, looks like there is going to be a glut of girls in October!

I love the name too. We've settled on Edith (Edie) Mary.

Just wondering if anyone else is getting bored of this pregnancy business? Don't get me wrong, I love feeling the baby move etc but it feels like an eternity until she arrives. I just want to fast forward to meeting her and get on with being a Mum.

Anyone got any tips on how to stop calendar watching?

FloriaTosca · 08/06/2007 10:13

Good Morning All!
Good luck today Gemmma
Glad the physio session went reasonably well yesterday Inzi..sorry about the car though...I'd forgotten about that or I'd have warned you , speed bumps especially are hell! I remember ranting last time they gave me pain that there were surely more people suffering pain from the d* things than there were boy racer/speed addicts in this world, even the hospital has 7 of them between the car park and the exit! just wonderful for all the post op people and the arthritis sufferers etc!! .right I'll get off my soap box now ...hope things are easing off for you a bit today.
Busy day today, just cleaned the spare room for my brother who is coming to babysit the dog while we go to a wedding tomorrow; got a lot ironing/packing to do (just for an overnight stay!); man coming to quote for the new patio window (old one is rubbish and lets a gale in)then off to pick up mum help me choose a fancy hat/facinator for the wedding and a visit to Tesco to stock up on nibbles for the babysitter....all before work at 2pm! Good job I didnt have any more sad dreams last night and actually feel like doing something!
Have a good day everyone

Morning all! Having a busy patch at work so can't post much, but just wanted to say good luck to Gemma for today!

Back when things are a bit quieter...

ejt1764 · 08/06/2007 10:43

Hi all - am supposed to be writing my reports - but the fact that I'm waaay before the deadline means that I'm 'ok, I can leave it for a bit!' I will finish 8KJ's reports today - that is my goal!

inzi - glad to know that physio was positive for you - it sounds like you and I have the same thing going on! I'd also suggest, in addition to what the physio said about hanging over a chair, that you get yourself a gym ball like this and hang over that. I found that very comfortable when pg with ds - allows you to relax your back and take the stress of your pelvis. Hope you feel better soon.

polarmummy - the birth of ds was very traumatic for me, but I'm still going back for more ... (mind you, it has taken counselling to get me that far!) It's bizarre, as you make all these plans for an ideal birth, but you have to remember that your plans could have to be changed at a moment's notice. If you think properly about all the permutations (including when and why you would agree to induction!!), then you should be fine. I thought very carefully about my ideal birth scenario with ds (as 'natural' as possible etc.), and I also thought about what I would do in case of a c section - the one thing I didn't think about was induction - and that meant that I hadn't explored the possibilities.

pheebe - hope your search for an alternative hospital goes well.

buffy - very excited about your house being finished early!

betsycoe - I do not enjoy being pregnant - I'm finding these few weeks interminable! I can't wait until Madam Bean is born! And, like you, I want to know how to stop calendar watching!

FloriaTosca - wow - that's busy! Enjoy the wedding!

I love everybody's choice of names by the way!

Well, physio was very positive for me, without actually changing anything. She confirmed that I'm doing all the right things, has given me some more exercises to do, and has referred my for hydrotherapy! Apparently there's a 'symphysis pubis class' at the main hospital in the hydrotherapy pool! She also confirmed that she thought I shouldn't be in work (her very words were: 'I'm surprised you managed 2 days!') and has told me to keep taking the tablets (well, not taking them, but you know what I mean - what terminology do you use for suppositories anyway) - whilst admitting that they won't do any more than take the edge off the pain.

Has anybody heard from Gemma?

Right, going to write my reports!

nellieloula · 08/06/2007 12:49

Hi everyone; so glad to hear that the physio is going well. I can certainly vouch for the gym balls - they were a life saver when I was pregnant last time.

And ejt, I did exactly the same as you seem to have done - considered everything apart from induction, and that's what I ended up having. I think though it's something which is generally glossed over and I don't think anyone told me about how that would effect my birth etc Would have been good to know in advance. Better prepared this time!

Pheebe, I have also switched hospitals for this one after two pretty grim experiences at the main hospital and I have to say, so far it's been an altogether better experience so good luck.

I share the calendar watching phenomenon too - scan next wed which should hopefully move things on in my head; then two (???) glucose tests - joy!

Love everyone's names by the way - we're still in boys name hell! Anyway, I'd better get on - hope you're all having a good afternoon and have a good wedding Floria

ejt1764 · 08/06/2007 13:16

nellie - it's just mad that induction is not really covered all that well in antenatal classes - we had lots on everything else - even a really good session on C Sections, but nothing at all on induction!

Out of our antenatal class of 8, 4 ended up being induced - and of those 4, 3 of us ended up with a C section! Nobody else had a C Section!

A woman I know who was a doula has started midwifery training, and told me that the proportion of women who are induced who go on to have a normal delivery is tiny! Personally I think it's scandalous, as most inductions are done before the woman is even properly overdue! WHO says that a term pregnancy is 37 - 42 weeks ... sorry, will get down off my soapbox now!

Have finished the reports I'd set myself to do ... will now go and enjoy the sunshine! (Now watch a freak snowstorm hit Penarth!)

Have a good afternoon all, I've got a lady from Avon coming to see me at 5pm about becoming an Avon lady! Decided to look into it a a way to earn a bit of extra cash when on Maternity leave....

alicet · 08/06/2007 15:05

Hi all!

ejt and inzi glad to hear that both your physio sessions went well!

Good luck gemma....

betsycoe YES I really hate being pregnant. I love feeling him move - thats fab but as for the rest of it it sucks. The blooming middle trimester if a bloody myth as far as I can see - we should all be ther now right? And clearly not! Maybe those who are are just keeping very quiet in case of lynching!

nellie we really really struggle with boys names too. I think we have just about settled on Adam Ben but its very much a compromise as far as I'm concerned. Just the best name that my dh and I can agree on. Sure it will grow on me though.... But going to keep looking.

Pheebe - love the names! I particularly like Phoebe - that would have been my choice for a girl apart from my husband absolutely hating it! He has no taste!!!

alicet · 08/06/2007 15:07

And polar I can agree with the others that its really important to consider all possibilities. C-section was about the only option I hadn't fully considered and guess what I ended up with!! My birth plan of gas and air and water birth went out af the window. At least when I made the plan I was realistic enough to know that that didn't mean it would happen - you're just planing for what you would like in an ideal situation. I think keeping an open mind as well as considering all alternatives is definately the way to go

buffythenappyslayer21 · 08/06/2007 15:09

just had a quick catch up!

i was induced last time, and i swear never again!!!i was in labour for 22 hours!and i always thought the more babies you had the quicker it would be!!the whole experience has terrified me and thats why i have asked for a cs this time.(number 4 baby was emergency cs,number 5 was the induction and the pain i had with my cs scar was unbearable.)my mw has told me its probably safer i have cs this time as the scar pain last time couldve been indication that my scar wasnt holding upto the strain.no-one explained to me that induction could lead to cs most of teh time,or how long it can take.if i ahd known how horrible it was going to be last time i wouldnt have gone for induction.i spoken to so many mums that were induced only to have ruptured cs scars,or ended up having emergency cs's anyway.

im still scared stiff about having a cs again, mainly because my last cs was emergency and that was so traumatic!!!i know this time will be alot less rushed and hopefully everyone will be calmer!!

on a different note,im so glad i started my baby shoping early, ive got so much to get for teh new house!!!

ejt,hope your enjoying teh sunshine!!!

Hello everyone! Thanks for wishing me well for today.

Everything is fine, and I am having.........a little boy!! He was moving around a lot, grabbing his feet with his hands, and drinking amniotic fluid - which meant he stuck his tongue out several times...hilarious to watch.
