Boredom @unicornchaser?!! I'm relatively free but savouring every moment even though there's lots to complain about.
Very soon we'll be walking zombies and don't want to look back and regret not resting enough.

Belles86 · 20/08/2018 10:20

I'm on with the hot flushes, new fun symptom!!

unicornchaser · 20/08/2018 10:25

Yeah @Filzma I'm not very good at relaxing and taking it easy so struggling with having all this free time but not really being able to do anything. Also don't want to start finalising baby stuff yet as it will make time go slower.

Sorry though, don't mean this to sound like a gloaty thing or sticking it in to anyone but for me I'm not coping well with not having anything to occupy my time. I am a few weeks behind most of the rest of you though so I may well change my tune in a week or 2!

OP posts:
Filzma · 20/08/2018 10:37

@unicornchaser no, no you didn't come across as gloating at all.💕😉 my mums like you btw lol. Totally understand.

Sorry to those with hot flushes. Hormonal surges and dips maybe? Hope they subside.🙏

justtowarm · 20/08/2018 10:48

@unicornchaser when I was pregnant with my son I was in a similar situation to you as was signed off work as SPD was bad, but because I couldn't do much I was bored, I had been teaching myself how to crochet so started to make things for the baby.

Maybe it would help to do something like that? (Totally understand if that wouldn't be for you)

The hot flushes I get every time I have a braxton hicks contraction 😓

unicornchaser · 20/08/2018 11:05

My plan was to get into swimming and aquanatal classes but ending up with stitches in my hand has put a kiabosh on that one!
I might look into something like crochet, I will be naff at it but only so much netflix I can handle before I go demented 😂

OP posts:
justtowarm · 20/08/2018 11:24

Yeah I can imagine 😞. Crochet is a good distraction. I just got a basic book with the stitches in and watched YouTube videos if I got stuck. A basic stitch rectangle baby blanket (small one for the car seat or something is probably one of the most simple things to do and a good first project to learn with x

Yerp · 20/08/2018 19:06

I’ve been back to midwife today. No glucose in urine today, so must have been the maltesers last time Blush
I’m not sleeping well though. I’m having terrible hot flushes too. I’m tired this evening, hopefully I’ll get an early night

twobambinos · 20/08/2018 19:38

Yes yes to the hotflushes.
Also feel like my period is going to arrive any minute. Confused knicker watch is back on.
My dh is driving me mad too.

@justtowarm Crochet sounds like fun. What nice things have you been making?

@yerp that's good news about the urine test. Now you have given me a mind for malteasers. It doesn't take much at the moment I just want all nice things.

@unicornchaser hope your hand is OK.

How did the magnesium spray work out?sorry can't see who was going to use it as the posts don't go back that far.

Anyone else on iron and finding it hard to take? It makes me vomit much of the time and wonder if it's worth it as its making me feel worse. Have a check up on Thursday so will run it by the midwife again then

Yerp · 20/08/2018 19:48

twobambinos Yes I’m loving the maltesers at the moment, but just having to ration myself Grin
I’m on iron tablets, been on them for ages now. They made me really constipated at first but I’m all good now. They did make me nauseous, but I take them right after food now and I’ve been fine. But my midwife recommended I use floradix (spelling?) if I kept having problems as it’s milder on the stomach. You have to buy it over the counter though she said.

Flamingo19 · 20/08/2018 20:12

I can’t seem to drink a cup of tea without having atleast 3 biscuits each time to dunk 😳 Going to try my very best to eat healthily now as I’m so worried that Im making a rod for my own back and my child will be destined for childhood obesity?! Does anyone know if that can happen through the mother gorging throughout pregnancy?

nervousFTM · 20/08/2018 20:42

@Flamingo19 no idea but if it makes you feel better I've had a few puddings today. One choc/avo mousse from Crussh, one biscuit, some frozen yoghurt and now some chocolate cake from our NDN. And this isn't far off an average day!!! Apparently don't have GD but needing the loo so much more often that I wonder if I've given myself it in the last few weeks 😫 baby is a big one too which could also be a symptom!!

unicornchaser · 20/08/2018 20:55

I was going to try magnesium spray but mentioned to midwife and consultant today but they said they couldn't tell me
It's ok or not as they have never heard of it as a treatment. So now I don't know what to do!

I'm with you @nervousFTM, I have such a sweet tooth just now, always reaching for some sweets or a biscuit and really getting concerned! Baby is measuring 2cm bigger (so 2 weeks bigger really) and I'm in the loo every half hour or so........ but then the baby measurements are rough estimates but I need to reign it back in a tad!!

OP posts:
twobambinos · 20/08/2018 21:00

My baby is measuring two weeks ahead on scans too and I have a sweet tooth. But he's been measuring big since 20 weeks and before that I could barely eat a thing so Confused

TinyTerror1 · 20/08/2018 21:02

I've been getting restless legs a bit too, not every night thankfully but they keep me awake for ages when they happen 😔

Not sure gd is really caused by what you eat as I was relatively restrained and I still have it. Wish I'd gorged myself on puddings while I had the chance!!

However, gd does make your child more prone to type 2 diabetes so I will need to keep a close eye on her diet and exercise 😏

I also read that eating a lot of sweet stuff may give baby a sweet tooth but I'm not sure it lasts any more than they continue to like a variety of food if you eat a varied diet while pregnant/breastfeeding.

Filzma · 20/08/2018 21:23

I'm huge as well and measuring ahead. Struggling with diet.

What I ate today:
muesli and milk
Handful grapes
A peach
3 bars chocolate
Packet of crisps
Peanuts and some almonds
Subway foot long sandwich
Ginger beer
Lime and lemon fizzy water
Tea and cake

That's me trying, yet everything but the nuts had sugar.

TinyTerror1 · 20/08/2018 22:23

M&S have brought out an unsweetened fizzy water range. It's pretty tasty if you can find it :)

Filzma · 20/08/2018 22:36

Thanks @TinyTerror1, I'm willing to try anything that reduces my sugar intake atm

justtowarm · 20/08/2018 23:07

@twobambinos I have made half a baby shawl, and have started a soft toy (although that is sewing). I feel a bit bad I made loads for my little boy, but he is taking all my crafting time for this little one 🙈 I just hope I finish the shawl, so I have something to keep for her.

ATP1000 · 20/08/2018 23:16

@unicornchaser, maybe worth trying a pharmacist, you could show them the spray online if you haven’t bought it. Or perhaps an osteopath specialised in pregnancy.

TinyTerror1 · 21/08/2018 08:16

As someone with gestational diabetes, my diet yesterday (and readings, which I only need to do after my three main meals):

Two slices of wholemeal toast with (no added sugar) peanut butter and a cup of tea - got a high reading

Cup of tea with two Nairns choc chip oatcakes (these are tasty, 40% less sugar than normal biscuits)

One slice of bread cheese sandwich, veg sticks and houmous, pack of Quavers from multi-pack, mini Dairy Milk - ok reading but higher than I'd like

Glass of milk and some peanuts

Jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad - reading at the top of the ok range

So be glad you don't have GD as trying to work out what is a healthy meal is basically impossible Sad

unicornchaser · 21/08/2018 08:27

Aww @TinyTerror1 you have my sympathy having to put so much thought into what you're eating. I'm bad for just grabbing anything without even thinking so I really feel for you (and the others that I know have this)

At least you're on the home stretch now and not long to go!xx

OP posts:
Havetothink · 21/08/2018 08:58

tinyterror would a sweet potato be better than a regular one?

My mum's a bit of a health nut, she'd probably say milk and bread are also high in sugar (natural yogurt might be better than milk?) You can make a kind of mash potato out of cauliflower which is low sugar.

Tell me to shut up if that's no help though, my grans borderline diabetic but otherwise I only know what my mum preaches at me.

TinyTerror1 · 21/08/2018 09:11

Sweet potato sounds counter intuitive although I have heard they are better but tbh I don't like them! (per 100g they apparently have more carbs and sugar than potato so I don't really know why they are considered better).

Yesterday's readings were particularly high and I hope I was just having a bad day and it's not a sign that my GD is getting worse. I think milk is ok, it's less than 5% sugar (and less than 5% carbs) and the dietitian said 5% was the magic number. And I know bread is bad, white bread is awful for my readings, but when it comes to breakfast I don't have the energy to cook most days, so it's either nothing, or toast, or cereal (which tends to be as bad if not worse). And I was specifically told to avoid large portions of fruit, so fruit and yoghurt which is my normal go-to diet breakfast is out as well.

The other problem is that if I started cutting out carbs (e.g. by replacing potato with cauliflower) I'd start losing weight, which isn't what we're supposed to do in the third trimester either. I'm just about maintaining as it is...

I wasn't really looking for advice, although thanks for your suggestions :) The sugar readings do seem fairly random though, I had the same breakfast three days in a row with three totally different readings last week.

Havetothink · 21/08/2018 09:24

It does sound difficult tinyterror
