oh, @rainbowsandfeathers that's a tricky one! Erm - shots over the shoulder?

I always thought I'd struggle way more to give up drinking than I have. I suppose I hadn't factored in the constant nausea, exhaustion and being 'off' basically everything but white carbs.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 10/08/2018 16:14

Benefits of not being a drinker really helps. You can often ask bartenders for a coke... To look like a vodka and coke, just check they don't put the shot in!

To the earlier due date question - booking in gave me a due date of 8th April, 12 week scan pushed it back to 30th April, then 20 week pushed to 24th April. DS arrived on the 11th - supposedly 2 weeks early but down to numbers (which made sense) 3 days late! All just a guessing game really, he was definitely fully cooked (but small and has stayed so)

puravida31 · 10/08/2018 16:47

On the alcohol front I’ve definitely realised just how much I was spending on booze during evenings out / wine at home / the odd after work pub trip. I’ve had a few evenings out since being upduffed and barely spent anything, which had been quite pleasing!

ladycarlotta · 10/08/2018 18:27

@puravida oh yes, I like being a cheap date!

In other news, the last few days I've been really feeling... things... in my lower abdomen. A few pains but mostly feels like a lot of stretching. Has anyone else felt that? I mentioned it last night to DP, saying how immense the baby is now (the size of a lego man! thanks Ovia!), and he pointed out that I'd just eaten many times that volume in cheesecake, so I had more pudding inside me than baby. That put things in perspective.

Murphyrocks · 10/08/2018 18:43

@ladycarlotta yes I've been getting intermittent stretchy discomfort stuff around my tummy too. In fairness although baby is still quite small remember that your uterus is around 3 times that size so still probably bigger than the cheesecake consumption!

Nightmanagerfan · 10/08/2018 18:46

@ladycarlotta yes I’ve been having quite a bit of pain/funny feelings in my abdomen - I’ve got a five cm diameter fibroid so I know some of the pain is related to that, but yes I’ve felt various twinges etc. Round ligament pain is common as the womb stretches

puravida31 · 10/08/2018 18:59

Yes to the stretchy pains here as well, lots of odd feelings in that general region!

ladycarlotta · 10/08/2018 19:44

I remember how frightened I was around 5 weeks with the sharp pains I was having then, I'm much more relaxed now. I mean it helps that this is only uncomfortable rather than painful, but most new symptoms nowadays are just 'huh. pregnancy, eh?'

orangekitkat13 · 10/08/2018 21:15

No pains here apart from trapped wind still!

Is anyone else feel like they are in a constant grump at the moment? My poor DH is getting the brunt of my moods.

BadBadBeans · 10/08/2018 21:16

I get brief sharp pains sometimes when I sit up from lying down. Definitely in the uterus area - it's v low down. Hoping that is all stretching.

Just to add to the alcohol free ideas, you could also ask for an alcohol-free beer to be poured into a glass. I really like Becks Blue and have actually continued to drink that post birth and post breastfeeding. Even my husband drinks it quite often because you can have one or two with dinner and still then have a productive evening!

wordsmithereens · 10/08/2018 23:06

Yup, stretchy pains here as well, notice it most when I laugh, it's downright painful!

Guys, can I have a whinge, I'm having a moment of being utterly fed up with the sickness right now. :( I'm 10 weeks 4 days now, and it's still not showing much signs of letting up. Thought I felt slightly better mid week, but that was only the medication, so resolved to take it more regularly but it tires me out so much I then feel sicker from tiredness after a couple of days. I'm keeping more food down but just feel so sick all the time, and can't bear the smell of anything. Had to hide in the bedroom earlier cause DH made pasta with olive tapenade. I love olives normally!

Right, whinge over.

ladycarlotta · 11/08/2018 05:04

Oh, @wordsmithereens, that sounds rotten. Whinge away. It's the relentlessness of it that really gets you I think - bloody horrible. You're a hero for trudging on through it!

MistakenHoliday · 11/08/2018 08:37

Oh @wordsmithereens I'm in exactly the same boat! I feel like I've been sick for ever! I was perceived antihistamines by the doc who also told me, 'They'll knock you out. You'll not feel as sick but you'll be exhausted,' I almost cried.

What makes it even worse is I'm on my summer holidays (teacher!) and all year I justify how hard I work in term time by telling myself I'll have six weeks in the summer to spend with DD. The last three weeks have been spent either being sick or feeling sick while she watches the iPad or entertains herself. So failing at parenting too 😰 I'm hoping it fades a little for the next three weeks, rather than the week I'm back in work!

So nothing to add but solidarity ✊🏼

HidCat · 11/08/2018 09:47

@Orville82 on zero hours you are entitled to annual leave and statutory sick pay so I would look into this. And yes you are an employee so there could be a discrimination element if they can't find suitable work for you. Definitely worth delving into further. www.gov.uk/government/publications/zero-hours-contracts-guidance-for-employers/zero-hours-contracts-guidance-for-employers and as @wordsmithereens said, call ACAS as they are the government HR advice people. Unfortunately a lot of small businesses where they've been doing things the old fashioned way are actually breaking the law.

@rainbowsandfeathers88 congratulations and wow - that must have been a shock! Don't stress out about the big weekends, it happens to a lot of people, I'm sure it's all ok.

I had a lovely day at the beach with my DS and brother yesterday. Absolutely knackered afterwards and a little sunburned but it was great. We're supposed to be having rain all weekend now so glad we got to spend a day in the sun yesterday!

TheOneWithTheBaby · 11/08/2018 10:34

@wordsmithereens

Sorry you're having a tough time at the moment. I think the smell thing is horrible. The other day there was a weird smell in our kitchen (no clue what) but I couldn't go back in at all. I hope your sickness will go soon!

We have our early scan today. I'm so nervous somehow! They said to come with a full bladder but I really struggle with needing to pee all the time at the moment, so not sure how to do that? Hopefully they will be on time. I'm kinda nervous they will turn around and ask why I ever thought I was pregnant haha.

Newbie2703 · 11/08/2018 10:42

The sinus pressure is awful ! Especially while trying to sleep and my mouth feels like a desert anybody else had this ? Sickness has also come back this morning, meant to be packing to move house but I can't get out of bed.

Newbie2703 · 11/08/2018 10:46

@TheOneWithTheBaby I feel for you I really struggle with holding a full bladder too ! Don't know what time you scan is but I read somewhere to drink as much as possible before then have a wee 1/2 hours before you go and drink 2 glasses before having another wee not sure how well that works though.

TheOneWithTheBaby · 11/08/2018 10:53

@Newbie2703, I don't have sinus problems but my yhroat is so dry a lot of the time! Even when I drink it doesn't feel it's making much of a difference?

It's about a half hour drive so I think I will aim to drink some water during th drive and the waiting time. I've never been good with holding in and this pregnancy makes me wee every five minutes it feels. They did say they could do an internal if necessary so worst case I guess we will have to do that? I will try obviously...

Newbie2703 · 11/08/2018 10:55

Ah at least the option is there ! Good luck with the scan. Water definitely does not help. Seems to get worse at night too :(

ladycarlotta · 11/08/2018 11:53

good luck, @theonewiththebaby - I found it really hard to drink enough water with the last scan, was really worried about not being able to hold it. Plus it was a really hot day so I think my body was using it all up. She ended up doing an internal and it was easy and fine although I'd been nervous about that.

The first scan I had, at the EPU, was the opposite direction entirely: I was sipping on loads of ice water to keep myself from puking, and then they made me wait for ages and ages so I was busting, and it was REALLY uncomfortable when she pressed on my stomach with the thingy. I thought I'd actually pee. She said my bladder was over-full really. So I think just try to be comfortable - as you say, the worst case scenario is that they'll do an internal, and actually the pictures from that are pretty cool and much clearer.

Gronk27 · 11/08/2018 12:17

Hello,

I'm new to Mumsnet but guessing this is a chat for ladies due in March? I am 9 weeks exactly today and it's my first baby. Had my bloods on Thursday (midwife was a pro so no fainty times). My scan is booked for the 30th. It seems like such a long wait!

toastfiend · 11/08/2018 12:39

Welcome Gronk27 and congratulations. Smile

So sorry for all those still feeling so poorly, I really feel for you all. Sad

With regards to scans, I have a tilted uterus apparently so it's hard for them to see anything with a usual scan so both scans I have had have been internal (also had previous internal scans due to suspected Pcos). They're fine, not uncomfortable, you don't end up busting for a wee and the images are really clear with them. Plus you have a towel or blanket over you so it's not too awkward. I'm assuming they'll try for a normal scan on Tuesday when I go for my 12 week scan, but we shall see. I'm getting paranoid that 12 week scan is going to be too early though as I'll only just be 11 weeks when they do it, by my calculations. Confused We'll see, I guess!

My nausea has eased quite a bit, although I'm still getting random occasional bouts of it. I'm absolutely exhausted though. We're meant to be going out for a very dear friend's birthday tonight. They know I'm pregnant so no pressure from that perspective, but Lord I'm so tired I don't know if I can make it. Very much want to see them but it's in another city and will mean we won't be home until midnight and I've had a lot of late nights at work this week too. I know if I go out tonight I'll be exhausted all week next week, but will also feel terrible for missing the party.

Gronk27 · 11/08/2018 12:45

@toastfiend Thank you!

I went to a very good friend's 30th last night and I'm exhausted today. It's tough isn't it, I was all very blase before I was pregnant about still doing things. Yeah, right! I was drinking Rose Lemonade which looked the same as a pink gin mwahahaha.

wordsmithereens · 11/08/2018 13:40

Thanks guys! Yes, @ladycarlotta it's the relentlessness, wears you down. I managed to get quite a lot of sleep last night, so fingers crossed that'll give me a bit of a break.

@mistakenholiday, solidarity means a lot! I hope we both turn the corner soon. Please don't think of yourself as failing at parenting though, you're doing the best you can with what you have right now. Flowers

Hope the scan went well @theonewiththebaby!

And welcome @gronk27. :) I hear you on being blasé about still doing things - I do a lot of social dancing, but since the sickness hit there's not been a chance in hell of that. Good start to phase it out of my life, I suppose, but I hope I can manage to fit just a little bit in before baby shows up.

Angelmiracle · 11/08/2018 13:54

@Newbie2703 yeah my mouth feels like a desert and no amount of liquids help. Eating fruit or fruitella sweets help a bit. My sinuses were bad before preg they're so dried up now.

Congratulations and welcome @gronk27!
