NCT is largely down to the teacher. So maybe give them a call @FrowningFlamingo and see what they reccomend.

I used to work with the NCT and see alot of classes. Same basic principles. But each teacher aproached it so differantly. Some focused more on emotionsl well being and feeding. Others on labour and caring for baby.

Used to get couples there in male same sex relationships. Or using surogates. So neither was carrying or going through labour. They would go just for the other bits.

So wouldnt let an ecs put you off.

craftymum01 · 29/07/2018 22:16

My NCT friends and I always laugh saying we are the most expensive friends we have ever made. We are still quite close. I didn't get much from the classes but picked up a few good tips. It was definitely the social side that helped me as we had just moved to a new area and I am not great at putting myself out there and making new friends.

Baby160P · 29/07/2018 22:40

Thanks I'll look into it.

Since2016 · 29/07/2018 22:43

@craftymum01 us too 😂 worth every penny!

lanalawr · 29/07/2018 22:44

I'm still in contact with all seven other couples (mostly the Mums) from NCT with dd. One of our group was having a planned section. It was actually really interesting as the lady who was taking our session talked us all through it and acted out bits like how many people were likely to be in theatre. It was really eye opening and I think would have helped me if I'd needed a section. The social side is brilliant too. The best friends I've ever bought!

FrowningFlamingo · 29/07/2018 23:11

Thanks all - I'll email the teacher as I've already had a look on the website and found my closest ones. There doesn't seem to be a class for the right due date for me that nearby but I guess I'll ask her what the best fit would be for me :)

pushit · 29/07/2018 23:56

Hi all. I'm popping over from the March group, have a question. Did any of you start to feel a little better in week 10? I still feel nauseas but less awful. And sort of more human? Less pathetic and constantly tired. Is this a fluke day? TIA x

jeanzbeanz · 30/07/2018 00:13

@pushit that's exactly how I felt from week 11. Hope it lasts for you, too!

I'm 13 weeks today!! Still feeling really sick in the evenings and having to spend lots of time asleep. But I guess overall much better than I was 3 weeks ago!

Lulabell1 · 30/07/2018 03:51

I am not even going to attempt to catch up as i have missed the whole thread. Been in Dominican Republic since 18th and have had the worst sickness ever TMI to the point im straining so much iv peed a few times ontop of the heat i just cant deal and cant wait to come home!!!

AliceRR · 30/07/2018 06:10

@maxiflump1 @DragonFlew @NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking I was given an appointment at a local community hospital and seen after about 5 mins. The doctor was really lovely. He checked me out (temp, BP, abdominal exam) and said he thinks there’s nothing to worry about.

So I think I’m ok.

BUT have been up stressed for the last hour about one bite or a rare burger I took accident the weekend (was given DH’s burger by mistake as mine was supposed to be well done) and been googling risk of toxoplasmosis during pregnancy 🤦‍♀️

Lookingforadvice123 · 30/07/2018 06:59

I'm actually quite against the NCT, for the reason that they treated a friend very poorly, borderline cruelly, after she had lost a baby in neonatal. I won't go into details as it's potentially outing. I wouldn't have done it with DS anyway as it's not my cup of tea and neither DH nor I like the "forced friendship" aspect.

I made my best "mum" friend at pregnancy yoga, we just clicked and our boys ended up being born close together. I'm going to be joining a antenatal Personal training group this time round, may do pregnancy yoga as well depending on how much time I have!

FrowningFlamingo · 30/07/2018 07:11

lookingforadvice that sounds much more like how I'd want to meet people but I live quite rurally and there isn't really anything like that near me :( well that's not really true but it's all at least 20 minutes away which means I can't get there for an evening class as I work late hours anyway. I don't work wednesdays but haven't managed to find anything on that day so far. I'll keep looking!

Glad to hear everything is ok AliceRR assuming you're in the UK the risk is very low I think and you've only had a tiny bite so try not to worry (easier said than done I know!)

Lookingforadvice123 · 30/07/2018 07:24

That's annoying FrowningFlamingo. I'm lucky there's loads on near me, means you can meet people via a specific interest rather than being put into groups purely based on due date like the NCT 😆

welshweasel · 30/07/2018 07:33

I was really lucky with my NCT group - all 8 of us ended up really close and spend pretty much every day of mat leave together! The kids are now 2.5 and we still chat daily on WhatsApp. Unfortunately I’ve recently moved away so I’m going to have to start over with Mum friends. There’s a good pregnancy yoga group so I may try that, otherwise it’s going to have to wait until after baby is here!

12 week scan today, so nervous!

Baby160P · 30/07/2018 07:54

@pushit I felt better from 8 weeks and had a private scan in worry, I have nausea the odd day and am very tired most of the time though.

MrsY87 · 30/07/2018 08:08

I've got a stomach bug which on top of my morning sickness has left me feeling terrible. I'm struggling to keep down anything even sips of water come straight back up 😩 does anyone know when you should get concerned about dehydration when your pregnant?

On the meeting mum friends I moved area between my 1st and 2nd so did a local 2nd time mums course & met a really lovely group through that. And then also met a few people at various groups etc you just need to pluck up the courage to ask people if they fancy a coffee one day & exchange numbers! A lot of my friends will be back at work this time so going to do another refresher course to meet some new people hopefully!

DragonFlew · 30/07/2018 08:09

Hope your scan goes well @welshweasel

MrsY87 · 30/07/2018 08:12

@AliceRR don't worry about toxoplasmosis too much, chances are that you've already had it, most people have you just don't know as it's symptomless. it's only the primary infection really which is considered to be harmful to a baby and the chance of getting that whilst your pregnant is very low. I had to be tested for it in my last pregnancy as my 20w scan showed an anomaly so they then routinely rule out infections like toxo & cmv so as you can imagine I did a lot of reading up on it! I'd already had it & DS was fine!

AliceRR · 30/07/2018 08:29

Thanks for the reassurance @FrowningFlamingo and @MrsY87. It’s just another thing to worry about til my scan! I have had a cold this weekend too which I understand is what the symptoms can exhibit so making me more paranoid as but know I am being a bit overly anxious!

I did similar after having a few mouthfuls I’d DH’s Mr Whippy (at his encouragement) and then stressed for a couple of days...

As it goes I feel a bit crappy today as I have that weak feeling you get when you have a cold and haven’t slept well so exhausted.

On the plus I am 12 weeks today 🙂

Since2016 · 30/07/2018 08:38

Each to their own I say. I did buggy fit classes last time which were good and some other baby classes but tbh there were only a few mums I clicked with. This time I won't bother as have a few friends who are either also pregnant or have little ones already so we'll be off at the same time.

I'll be honest. I'm sort of dreading baby classes - I can't bear toddler groups

Since2016 · 30/07/2018 08:40

Whoops posted too soon! What I was going to say was I think it just depends on the groups - i didn't bond with our NCT group as a whole, but 3 of us are close. We'd have been friends if we met in other circumstances - the others not so much.

But yes - toddler groups. Shudder. I'd rather go into central london!

Alicejj8x · 30/07/2018 08:42

Got a private scan today as OH wanted to check in on Bean before our 12 weeks so he thought this would break it up nicely

Just super paranoid as I am before any of my scans. Thinking what if Bean stopped growing. Our last scan Bean was measuring 9 weeks and everything was perfect and developing properly now I'm just a worried mess as symptoms have slowed down most days I.e boobs aren't sore really don't need to wee often ( not that I did anyway) and nausea has settled down.
I should be 10w5d today and am Just a worried mess lol.

emalady · 30/07/2018 08:44

@AliceRR sounds like a rubbish couple of weeks, wouldn't be surprised if the worry had weakened your immune system. Hope you start to feel better soon.

@welshweasel good luck with your scan today.

@mrsy87 if you are struggling to keep down sips of water it will might be worth speaking to or seeing gp for a urine test for ketones. Keep sipping. Rehydration solutions or watered down juice can be better but depends if you can cope with the flavour.

I might try and join pregnancy yoga too if a few of you have enjoyed it. Locally they say after 14 weeks but closed for 2 weeks in August so first class would be September, should be feeling pretty good by then!

emalady · 30/07/2018 08:46

@alicejj8x good luck with your scan, hopefully the reassurance will keep you going until 12 weeks!!

Picklesandpies · 30/07/2018 09:18

Has anyone else got their 12 week scan today? Mine is at 2.30pm. Fingers crossed everything is ok! Still being sick so hopefully that's a good sign Confused
