@booxox how awful for you. I'm so sorry that you've been forced into this position. I really hope you're able to get away from this person and stay safe. Thinking of you x

welshweasel · 26/07/2018 13:42

@Lookingforadvice123 I'm in Abergavenny. I lived in Cardiff for 10 years but moved due to work. Lots of our friends live in Cardiff though and we're down most weekends.

I think with the early scans is that they're only as good as the day you have them, hence the worry. I wouldn't have paid for as many as I've had though, although I probably would have had at least one privately if it weren't for my other issues.

Re gender scans - I'm not fussed so will wait. I'm having multiple additional other scans anyway so it's likely one of those will be before 20 weeks.

With regard to waiting - I found the final weeks of pregnancy intolerable. I'm so so glad that I get an ELCS this time, 39 weeks and I'll book the date just before Christmas. In a far less stressful job this time too so hopefully that will mitigate some of the other pregnancy related health issues I had last time!

Lookingforadvice123 · 26/07/2018 13:56

Oh lovely welshweasel. I live in Rhiwbina.

Just posting to have a bit of a rant. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and I still haven't even received a letter for my booking appointment or scan. This is now day 3 of me trying to see what on earth is going on. Rang my GP midwife on Tuesday to ask if my details had been sent through because I hadn't received anything and was approaching 13 weeks- she said it had been sent off but she'd ring the next day and get back to me. Next day comes and goes... of course she didn't get back to me. I ring again today and there's no midwives in, so the health visitor who answered the phone gave me a number to contact... which was then the wrong number! Finally found the new number thanks to Google... and they're closed until half 2 today.

Dreading having to ring now because I feel like I'm just going to get passed to another person. This is my first pregnancy and I'm getting so fed up with this. Why is it so much to ask that I have a scan when everyone else has one?

If this phone call doesn't go well, I think I'm just going to book a private scan for next week. Me and my DP had planned on telling everyone, if all was well, this weekend (as we thought we'd definitely have had a scan etc by now), but that'll just have to wait.

So fed up. Anyone else been messed around?

jeanzbeanz · 26/07/2018 14:31

That sounds like an absolute nightmare. Keep chasing til you get somewhere!!

Yakadee · 26/07/2018 14:47

@chocpop - that's so frustrating! I haven't had such a bad experience (I've at least had my first appointment and scan) but I can NEVER get through to anyone! I'm supposed to call to book my 16 week appointment but all the numbers I have and not one has been answered? I really hope you get through to someone soon x

Since2016 · 26/07/2018 15:13

@chocpop that's outrageous. Is it a community midwifery team or a hospital?

Lookingforadvice123 · 26/07/2018 15:17

That's terrible chocpop! Who was supposed to book your scan, the midwife? How have you not had your booking in appointment yet that's absolutely ridiculous. My midwife rung me within 1 week of self referring to tell me the booking appointment date, then at my booking appointment she rang for the 12 week scan there and then. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to happen either that way, or you get a letter following your midwife booking appt.

It sounds like it's the community midwive's fault as they're supposed to be your first point of contact. I would be very tempted to ring your local EPAU/women's unit directly and explain to them.

Notquiteagandt · 26/07/2018 15:18

@chocpop are you planning on having any testing done? In which case they will have to give you them both in the next 5 days to meet the cut off. Even if you arent I would still use this to get your point across.

I had my booking in today. Have been transfered to concultant care due to low bmi and hyperemesis. So that is a relief. Just glad to finally be in the system. Just case of waiting until 12w scan now.

Celebelly · 26/07/2018 15:35

Just got our nuchal results back: 1 in 100,000. So relieved!!!

buthaina · 26/07/2018 15:36

@chocpop if I was you I would call another hospital and self refer. And tell them that you are already 13weeks and need to see someone ASAP.

Yakadee · 26/07/2018 15:44

@Celebelly - how quickly did you hear back? X

Celebelly · 26/07/2018 15:46

I had my scan and bloods on Monday morning. They said they would call within 3 days if high risk. If not I would get a letter. But I just checked my maternity notes app today just in case and the results had been added. I'll no doubt get a letter next week.

Yakadee · 26/07/2018 15:48

I had those on Monday morning and haven't heard anything (which is good) but wondered how long it took. I'm not aware of an app, they just said like you, they'd call within a few days otherwise I'd get a letter in the next few weeks. Can anyone get this app or is it a region thing? I'd like to know asap really x

Celebelly · 26/07/2018 15:49

No idea about app. I'm in Scotland and they gave me login details at my booking in appointment. It has all my test results, upcoming appointments, notes for birth etc.

No news is good news, my sonographer said!

Alicejj8x · 26/07/2018 15:50

I had a number to phone and book my 12 week scan myself

Yakadee · 26/07/2018 15:51

@Celebelly - ah OK. I just searched for it and you must have to be given the username etc as I couldn't set up a new account. I might ask at my GPS - thanks x

Lookingforadvice123 · 26/07/2018 15:57

Yakadee no news is 100% good news. I think my letter with DS took about a week, but the scan was on the Thurs and I was told I would get a phone call by the Tuesday if it was bad news.

Does everyone else get the option of having the NIPT test now, if the combined screening comes back high risk? They didn't do this with DS but they do now, which I thought was really good.

Yakadee · 26/07/2018 16:01

Just called my GPS reception to ask about the app and she's never heard of it. Maybe we don't do it here yet? X

Celebelly · 26/07/2018 16:06

Could be a new thing that's still being rolled out

Yakadee · 26/07/2018 16:07

@Celebelly - apparently they are in the process of getting it rolled out so not ready yet. At least I know. I'm very impatient by nature so I'm really not great at waiting x

Yellow100 · 26/07/2018 16:13

@Celebelly Sounds like they've got it sorted in Scotland! And Scotland does 3 IVF rounds too for people with infertility. Good news on results.

I had my 12 week scan on Monday and haven't heard anything yet from blood test/nuchal measurements so I'm hoping it's low-risk results. Husband is flying off for 2 weeks walking holiday today (without me!) We discussed plans for what he'd do if I got a high-risk letter through (i.e. get a bloody flight back home!). I didn't realise that they would call me though if deemed high-risk, I thought they sent out letters in all cases.

Celebelly · 26/07/2018 16:18

They asked me how I wanted to be contacted: phone call, letter, or appointment with midwife. I went for phone call as I thought it would be fastest option!

My care has been fantastic so far. I got my scan letter days after my booking appointment, had my scan at local community hospital, no waiting time, straight in and out, and maternity notes updated immediately whenever results come in. I suppose it varies by area but I think Scotland is more cohesive as there aren't so many NHS trusts with their own rules: everywhere is kinda expected to follow same protocol. The IVF thing is great too. I was really happy when that got introduced.

Yakadee · 26/07/2018 16:24

That really does sound good x
