@ladycarlotta I had to tell work because of being signed - Dr offered to not mention pg on the sick note but it felt underhanded. My boss has small kids himself so must know it's quite vulnerable at this early stage and hasn't told anyone he didn't have to. Travelling doesn't sound good though, hopefully you can get special dispensation!

peonylover22 · 12/07/2018 12:41

@SuperSharpShooter82 I live in Woodford too! Small world... Which hospital are you thinking of? Am probably going to self-refer to Homerton again as I had excellent care last time.
I had the Panorama test done at the Portland Hospital (Great Portland St) last time. That sort of cost sounds right. I actually went too early at 9 weeks last time (the first day it was possible as I was keen) and the DNA sample wasn’t good enough to test so bloods had to be retaken at 11 weeks. The nice thing is that they do a scan before taking bloods each time so what with the repeated tests I had loads of early scans!

Hi guys. I'm tentatively placemarking here. Just got a couple of BFPs at 11dpo, making me just less than 4 weeks pregnant, with a due date of 23rd March. I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks in April so I am not feeling very excited at the moment - mostly just nervous. I thought I'd join here to try and make it feel more real.

I'm 33 and have a DS who has recently turned 2. This is my third pregnancy. I'm lucky in that all three pregnancies have been very quick to conceive - 1 and 2 were both on the first cycle, and this one was the second cycle after mc. I think that is adding to the it's-not-quite-real feeling...

Symptoms so far are overwhelming tiredness and crazy vivid dreams. These were both early symptoms with my previous pregnancies as well. I didn't feel sick with DS until 7 weeks, and I didn't feel sick with the last one at all, so I'm not expecting any nausea for a while yet.

How soon did you guys all notify a medical professional of your pregnancy? Last time I got fobbed off my my GP's receptionist, but when I rang again a couple of weeks later as advised, the new lady I spoke to was horrified that I was 6 weeks and hadn't had an initial appointment! I'm thinking of ringing towards the end of next week if this one sticks around...

frankiefumbles · 12/07/2018 12:58

@SuperSharpShooter82 it's so hard to measure volume. It's not soaking a pad so that's optimistic but it feels like the only reason for this is it comes out when I go to the loo and wipe (tmi!!). I think it's improving slightly as it's reducing and going to brown, but I just can't get my head around the cramping. It is quite hard to just move on with day to day business whilst it's going on. For the time being I've convinced myself that he just bumped my cervix when he was doing the test and it's crazy sensitive.

@Bozley47 The reality is I simply don't have the time available to get a two part hcg test done because our GP surgery is notoriously slow and they don't do it at the weekend... by the time I can get it booked in so it's in the 48h/72h window it's next week already. I think my only real option is to wait until next week and rescan, but I don't feel overly optimistic. Especially seeing other people's scans and dammit googling....

@ladycarlotta I was hugely disappointed with my scan even before this happened. That's kind of why I posted it so people can see quite how little you can see if you get the dates wrong. Mine was 1.4mm which places it at not much more than 5 weeks. I'm meant to be 6+5. But I don't really know when I ovulated so I guess my dates could have been out. I thought I might have been two days out. I think when you are at 7 weeks you've got a good chance of seeing something useful.

But I'm sure I saw it flicker and I know sometimes they can catch up in size. The whole thing is so frustrating and I'm sorry I'm venting here because I've very conscious that you guys are all trying to hold it together yourselves and we really want positivity here so we can all feel confident that things will go well. Equally there's no where else to go. I've confided in a friend, DH and mum but nothing makes the wait go faster!

That's mad @peonylover22!!!! I'm actually Woodford Bridge so not the posh bit Wink

I had my booking in appointment yesterday at Whipps which is where I had DD. It's always been my hospital and I have never had any problems there. They were brilliant last time around. I was actually born there myself which is mad!

Heard nice things about Homerton but like the proximity of Whipps.

KneesupGaston · 12/07/2018 13:08

Welcome @BadBadBeans and congratulations!

I went to the GP yesterday at 5+6 and have my booking in next week when I will be 6+6.

Murphyrocks · 12/07/2018 13:10

Ooh, hi @BadBadBeans, welcome over from the ttc thread so pleased you've had your bfp! Both mine were very quick too, 2nd month both times with a chemical the 1st time, some people are just lucky! They want to book you in by 6 weeks where I am in Leeds but it seems to vary a lot in different areas of the country - whereabouts are you based?

@frankiefumbles please don't worry about venting on here, that's what we're here for! Sounding positive so really hope all is well.

KneesupGaston · 12/07/2018 13:11

@frankiefumbles I had been considering an early scan but after hearing about your experience I don't think I will bother. Seems like it can raise more questions than it answers. Glad the bleeding is turning to brown. I'm sure everything is fine and it's just a result of the poking about in there. Cramping is normal at this stage anyway so it could be coincidental. I had quite painful cramps yesterday.

frankiefumbles · 12/07/2018 13:30

@KneesupGaston I just got sucked in to seeing this particular consultant and I can't help but feel it was a bad idea. But ultimately it's unlikely the scan caused what is happening now. I think if I were to do it again I'd save my money until I was sure I was far on enough or for the moment something does go wrong. But that said I do know more than if I hadn't had it. If there is one thing I've learnt it's that everyone is different and we can only do our best for our beans...and that's okay :)

frenchgal I went to China when I was 16 weeks pregnant last time, my hands and feet swelled up so you may need flight stockings and felt like I had a hangover I was fine on landing.

RachaelT · 12/07/2018 13:31

Hi @welshsoph - hope your pre booking in appointment went well. What did it entail?

I'm sure my boss is starting to wonder what's going on with all these medical appointments (those more MiniT and others for Lumpy) - he keeps saying "is everything okay?" Can't wait to have a scan and feel confident things are okay enough to start telling people.

Wineandchoccy · 12/07/2018 13:32

BadBadBeans welcome I contacted the midwives at 6 weeks and I have my booking in at 8 + 3 weeks.

Wineandchoccy · 12/07/2018 13:37

I just spotted a few people saying they were not ttc for long I’m being nosy how long did it take everyone?

1st pregnancy I was 32 and it had took 23 months unfortunately I had a mmc discovered at my 12 week scan.

Fell pregnant with dd very quickly after the mmc after 6 weeks of ttc

This time it has took 10 months and was expecting it to take longer due to being older (37) plus a 3 year old

RachaelT · 12/07/2018 13:38

@Wineandchoccy it took us since last August with no chemical pregnancies or miscarriages... hoping as it took so long it's a very sticky bean!

Wineandchoccy · 12/07/2018 13:38

I didn’t realise there was another March thread it would be lovely if we were all on thread

RachaelT · 12/07/2018 13:40

Anyone else experiencing a pricking sensation in their boobs brought on by any movement? I'm trying not to walk around at work as the bouncing is triggering it but it's part of the job so I have to!

Wineandchoccy · 12/07/2018 13:44

I have sore nipples RachaelT As soon as I am home I’m having to take my bra off Blush

Shampooeeee · 12/07/2018 13:48

There’s an AMA thread by a gynaecologist that some of you might be interested in.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/AMA/3303150-I-m-a-consultant-gynaecologist-AMA?pg=6&order=

I see a gynae and she doesn’t do the first pregnancy scan until after 8 weeks. It’s a long wait (esp because this time mine is 9 weeks) but I think it guarantees seeing something even if your dates are a bit out.

hamandpease · 12/07/2018 13:58

How is everyone else coping at work? I just can't function

ladycarlotta · 12/07/2018 13:59

@MurphyRocks oh, no dispensation! There's a load of things that only I can do, and meetings that have taken serious cat-herding to make happen, so there's no way I'm not going. I'm more thinking that while I'm there they are almost bound to sneakily add new things to the schedule (they love to do this), and I absolutely won't have the energy. I also want the leeway to give a flat no to other stuff in the future. God, I sound grumpy, but I think I've been a bit too can-do in the past, which makes it hard to start refusing anything.

How are you feeling, by the way? Hope the time off is helping.

@FrankieFumbles really, vent away. Others may disagree, but I don't think we need to preserve this as a space for only positive things - that just isn't how this stuff works. What you're going through is part and parcel of trying to have a baby, and being so early none of us have that many people who know what we are going through. This is still your space, in my opinion. I can absolutely understand your frustration and anxiety. Keep on keeping on x

@BadBadBeans welcome! and congrats! I think I went to my GP at 4 weeks - basically as soon as I found out - and they told me to contact the midwifery team directly. I had a pre-booking-in session with them, where they basically explained how it all worked, but my booking-in is not until the 3rd August, which still feels a long way off! I'll be ten weeks by then, if all goes well.

SuperSharpShooter82 · 12/07/2018 14:04

Hi @BadBadBeans! Congrats and welcome!

@FrankieFumbles that sounds promising and as others have said, vent away! That is what MN is for! It doesn't need to just be positive, we are all anxious and we understand.

That trip sounds exhausting @ladycarlotta!

@RachaelT I had that in the first few weeks and comes and goes now but does seem to be subsiding.

@Wineandchoccy DD took about 9 months and this time around has taken 4.

Murphyrocks · 12/07/2018 14:05

@ladycarlotta I didn't mean dispensation as in you not having to go, just maybe trying to make it a bit easier for you and only making you do things that only you can do?! You absolutely should be taking care of yourself and your bean, that's your first priority and hopefully work can understand that. Don't forget you have legal rights as a pregnant woman, as my GP reminded me yesterday when I was reticent about taking the week off.

thefirsttimer · 12/07/2018 14:18

@frankiefumbles sorry to hear about the worry you're going through! It does sound like too much of a coincidence for it to not be related to the scan though, so please try to not worry too much! Surely a good thing that it's going brown now too. Hope today isn't too bad for you with the funeral too x

Hi @BadBadBeans welcome and congrats!

@Wineandchoccy think I mentioned right at the start but it's taken us almost 2 years. First ever BFP. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Hypothyroidism back in April ... started meds for them both in May and bang ... preggers! Finally! Smile

Wineandchoccy · 12/07/2018 14:21

thefirsttimer glad the meds have worked. 2 years is a long time isn’t it Sad

ladycarlotta · 12/07/2018 14:22

@murphyrocks ooh I didn't even know pregnant women had particular rights! That's good. I think work will be really nice when they know - it's a very female-dominated industry and I am pretty close with the team I work with, even though I'm not in the office with them. They're great but I know they have high hopes for what we can achieve this year (I do too), and it's quite contingent on me being very available. I think if I work hard til Christmas everything will tick over without me afterwards, and I'm kind of working towards that so I can take myself off without guilt when the baby comes.
