Is anyone else really struggling with the heat? Like, really, really badly? It feels like it hits me like a wall every time I step outside and within minutes I'm sweating heavily and feel incredibly sick and dizzy. Once I get hot I can't cool down either, short of getting in a cold shower I just feel completely overwhelmed by it. I'm getting really stressed about it now as I have a work event on Wednesday that will require me to be outside for a couple of hours and I just don't think I can do it. I'm also meant to be going out for the day with a friend next week when it's set to be 28 degrees and I'm worrying about that already! Nothing works, portable fans, running cold water over my wrists, making sure I'm drinking plenty. I still just feel floored by it and it makes me worry about the baby as I know overheating is bad.

frenchgal · 23/07/2018 16:22

@peonylover22 I can't wait either. Going for a panorama test on Friday (available from 9 weeks for 500 GBP), results in 7-14 days.

peonylover22 · 23/07/2018 16:38

@frenchgal yes I’m going to have the Panorama test too. A word of advice - last time I had bloods taken bang on 9 weeks. 10 days later they rang me and said they hadn’t managed to extract enough DNA to do the test, so I had to go back and have bloods retaken at end of week 10, so I didn’t get the results until end of week 12. This time I’m going to wait a few more days 9+4 or 5 so that they definitely get a good sample first time round.

pushit · 23/07/2018 17:12

@toastfiend I totally get that way too, panic attack when I'm hot and can't cool down, then worry about the days the temp is set to be high. Thankfully I don't have to work, just child care. And she's watching a lot of tv as I can't bare going outside. Hope you find a way to get out of work of weds.

MistakenHoliday · 23/07/2018 17:37

@TheWanderlust not this time but last time I remember being in agony itching around by boobs! I scratched until it bled: awful! I think I used calamine cream for relief...

@toastfiend it's just TOO HOT. I usually LOVE the heat, but I can't cope any more! I keep praying for 19 degrees! 🔥

orangekitkat13 · 23/07/2018 18:01

@MistakenHoliday 19 degrees would be bliss right now!

I'm struggling with the heat too. Lots hot flushes and getting light headed. Eating lots of ice pops has helped a bit. I'm working outside in central london all this weekend and dreading it!!

Angelmiracle · 23/07/2018 18:09

@wineandchoccy thats not long to ho now for the scan. How did the booking in go?

@thewanderlust I hear you on the itching I thought it was just me! It comes and goes for me. Ankles thighs tummy in between my boobs lol! Calamine is a good idea!

MistakenHoliday · 23/07/2018 18:10

@orangekitkat13 that sounds hellish. It should illegal 😉 I like the idea of ice pops though - I'll have to nip to the corner shop!

Angelmiracle · 23/07/2018 18:13

Im 5+1 and had community midwife appointment at GP surgery. It was more of a courtesy really. Went over the usual food to avoid vitamins etc. Took BP it was good. She advised booking in appointment at the outpatient hospital is usually at 10 weeks so that's only 5 weeks away!

Jenfur · 23/07/2018 18:14

This heat is unbearable! Walking my boy to nursery completely drains me so then I'm no use to anyone for the rest of the day. Doesn't help that I'm so exhausted at the moment anyway.
Every little thing my husband does is getting on my last nerve as well. Although he can be annoying, I think I might have to accept that its me being extra irritable.
I'm another thats voting to mixed feed, if anyone has any info or experience. Breast wasn't for us last time and I blame the stress of trying and failing on causing a lot of my PND. I was completely opposed to bottle feeding as it felt like I was failing at being a mum when my son wasn't gaining weight but looking back I know how ridiculous that was but I felt a lot of pressure to breast feed. This time I plan to relax, breast feed where possible but use bottles to help share with daddy so that I can rest and spend time with my son.

Newbie2703 · 23/07/2018 18:16

At least it will be cooler in the later stages of pregnancy GrinGrin

HidCat · 23/07/2018 18:42

@peonylover22 @MoosterTheMoose I'm not sure about mixes feeding from a taste perspective in terms of formula / breast but I have my son a mixture of breast/bottles full of breast milk from about 5days. We may have been lucky but the little man took to it straight away and I'll never forget how happy my OH was at being able to join in the feeding. I think there's more call for it in the US where Mums usually go back to work earlier so maybe have a look at some US sites if you can't find anything UK based. I used an electric pump to encourage supply as we were having trouble with latch and used the US sites for exclusively pumping for information (v. Common practice over there, not so much here).

@TheWanderlust just for precaution I'd mention that to your midwife as it can be a sign of liver issues that need addressing. Probably not at this early stage but best to be safe than sorry!

Another one feeling the heat. Luckily everyone else is too so doesn't seem too abnormal lol.

TheWanderlust · 23/07/2018 18:57

I must be such an oddball and be he only one enjoying the sun ☀️

I've always been someone who needs warmth and sunshine year round - it's my "other" antidepressant if you get me. And whilst it's certainly not as comfortable as pre-pregnancy I'm still absolutely loving this stretch of long warm days. I'll be gutted when it ends as I've stopped my regular antidepressant/anti anxiety meds and been advised not to take any of the crisis response meds I have as back up.

Hoping I find a coping strategy for those panic filled days when they creep in

Wineandchoccy · 23/07/2018 19:17

Angelmiracle The booking in went ok although I am consultant led for the time being due to my age but no other risk factors so hopefully transferred back to midwife led once they have checked me over.
Feels very real when you are in the system and have your notes.

Wineandchoccy · 23/07/2018 19:18

I’m so tired today though just putting dd to bed then I am going to get a early night as well

Murphyrocks · 23/07/2018 19:27

@HidCat yes I was the same with the combination feeding, ds never had formula until he went to nursery but I was fortunate to have an over-abundant supply (enough to feed the entire NICU with leftovers!) so expressed a lot and dh/dss/grandparents could bottle feed which was really helpful.

Highly recommend getting baby used to bottles sooner rather than later (although not in the first few weeks to avoid nipple confusion) if that's the route you want to go down as I know lots of people who have waited and baby then refused anything other than a boob!

MistakenHoliday · 23/07/2018 19:53

@Wineandchoccy sounds like I sensible plan. I hope you manage to get some rest in this heat Confused

BadBadBeans · 23/07/2018 20:16

I thought I might be feeling a bit sick today but I think maybe it's just a side effect of the cold I have. Has made me realise how desperate I am to feel nauseous though. I want my body to give me a sign that things are going better than last time!

@TheWanderlust it must be so hard coming off your medication and knowing you can't go back on for a while. Do you have talking therapy support in place? I use Headspace to help a bit with anxiety when I feel things are starting to spiral. I should use it every day really but I am naughty...

Wineandchoccy · 23/07/2018 20:17

I’m in bed but not asleep it’s to stuffy and my neighbour is washing his car so I now need a wee for the 342nd time today Grin

TheWanderlust · 23/07/2018 20:31

@BadBadBeans I haven't got anything in place just yet. I'm seeing my midwifes (I've got 2 as one is a student) on the 3rd and hoping that they will be able to make some recommendations. We're still new to our area so I have no idea of what is available.

I'm nervous, but also half hoping this could be a turning point/ break in the cycle that will help me to improv over time.

Will look up headspace, not something I've come across previously.

ladycarlotta · 23/07/2018 20:49

@toastfiend YEP, the heat is killing me. I console myself that people in hot countries have babies all the time, so overheating is not something to panic overmuch about at 27-30 degrees C (besides taking sensible precautions that would apply in any heatwave), but god it's so unpleasant. I was just in NYC for work which is even hotter, and since I was staying in hotels and going to meetings I couldn't have the constant iced water and ice pops I have here at home. That was tough and I felt SO ill. It's wretched. Like @Newbie2703 says, I'm just bloody grateful that I won't have to deal with this in the 3rd trimester. Maybe I can get through the baby bump time with just a lot of big jumpers?

@TheWanderlust oh, coming off meds must be so scary. I'm sorry you have to go it alone, but as you say this might be a good opportunity to find new strategies. My partner is a MH professional who works a lot with pregnant women who like you are off long-term meds, and I get the sense the NHS are pretty anxious to get it right, so hopefully you will at least have lots of access to good support.

TheWanderlust · 23/07/2018 21:00

@ladycarlotta it is pretty daunting but I'm trying to be really open minded and embracing whatever comes my way easy to say now right?! It sounds like you're in really good hands with your partner - should know what to be doing to support you!

MoosterTheMoose · 23/07/2018 21:04

Oh the heat! It’s so draining, exactly like walking into a wall when you go outside like pp said. Sweaty, breathless, exhausted, just horrible. The only suggestion I have is swimming - the only time at present when I don’t feel sick or too hot (and i’m usually more of a runner, but no chance in this weather - seem to get out of puff walking up stairs. I hate, hate feeling so unwell and physically decrepit). Can’t remember if that feeling goes away in 2nd trimester?

ladycarlotta · 23/07/2018 21:24

@MoostertheMoose that's interesting, I've been off swimming as I just feel so nauseous all the time, but I was enjoying it up to about 6 or 7 weeks so maybe I need to just give it another go.

I bloody hope this doesn't go on beyond first trimester. I hate being so incapable. We went cycling in the New Forest on the weekend and I actually cried I was so crap. Usually I love the heat, but now I just want it gone.

@TheWanderlust ha, he does OK. The clinical hat comes off when he gets home, and he is used to dealing with people who have, you know, PROPER problems, but he is at least really sympathetic to MH wobbles. I really trust that if everything goes to shit when the baby is born, he'll be slightly more prepared for PND, PTSD etc.

Angelmiracle · 23/07/2018 22:01

What gestation did your m/s - all day nausea kick in?

Also what supplements & brands are you all on?
