@hamandpease the NHS website says the cut off is 1 in 150, so anything from 1 in 2 to 1 in 150 is high risk, and at this point they would offer further tests.

@HidCat I get sharp twinges on and off but think these might be gas! I've got a constant dull ache on both sides of my abdomen but my back is the worst, the pain is around the dimples in my lower back and radiates out. One thing that helps a bit if anyone else gets this is lying on the floor with knees bent and feet flat, and doing what my old physio calls 'knee rolls' - google it if you aren't sure as it's hard to describe! I have a curved spine which can make one side of my pelvis sit higher than the other, and doing these knee rolls aligns it again.

I have moved my private scan to this Sunday instead of next - I did want to wait until 8 weeks but I think I need some reassurance sooner than that!

Glad to know my DH isn't the only big kid!

We booked it ages ago and I was looking forward to all the wine, cheeses and delicious rare steaks etc! And now I'm going and can't have them 😢

One of our little things is that we're AFOLs (adult fans of Lego) and I started DH collecting the architecture series but only ones that we have seen in real life so we've got Seattle Space Needle, various London and New York ones and 2 Paris sets awaiting building on our return!

puravida31 · 13/07/2018 19:47

Me too @Rachael it’s going to be painful watching DH enjoy all the wine & steak in front of me! I think I’ll have to comfort myself with lots of french pastries instead 😋

Awww you and your DH sound so sweet!

BadBadBeans · 13/07/2018 19:55

@SuperSharpShooter82 well I'm not saying my induction was a picnic, but it was such an out and out failure that they did only let me labour for 6.5 hours before whipping DS out post-haste, so at least I hadn't had a marathon labour beforehand! I hated the idea of a CS before - I was afraid of it as I'm terrible with needles. But even though it was an urgent situation, the team were amazing and I felt incredibly calm throughout. I'm pretty sure I don't want to try for a VBAC. I want to be in control this time and I certainly don't want to end up in the same EMCS situation.

@fuzzywuzzy01 @RachaelT yep I pretty much see it as my mum having a direct effect on DS from the way she parented me and the way that influences my parenting - so her presence is here through me, even though she's not. I find that awfully comforting.

@puravida31 I would definitely chase. By 7 weeks I would think you should at least have an appointment made for booking in.

@hamandpease yes it is 1 in 150 that is classed as high risk. I was 31 when I had DS and my results came back as 1 in 1000. The NHS says that a 30 year old has a 1 in 800 chance (before nuchal fold / bloods are taken into account) and a 35 year old has a 1 in 270 chance. So a 31 year old will have a starting point - before bloods and measurements - of somewhere between the two.

hamandpease · 13/07/2018 19:58

Thank you allThanksThanks

RachaelT · 13/07/2018 20:22

Thanks @puravida31 😊

Wineandchoccy · 13/07/2018 20:40

I was 33 when I had dd and my results were 1 in 7300

HidCat · 13/07/2018 20:44

@mostimproved will try the knee rolls, I also have slight curvature if the spine so if it works for you it may work for me! Thanks!

Sarahandduckarehigh · 13/07/2018 21:04

@hamandpease I did A LOT of research on this last time around. Randomly, Queen Mary university seems to have the best detailed info such as this page. www.qmul.ac.uk/wolfson/services/antenatal-screening/screening-tests/combined-test/

Basically the combined test takes your age, the nuchal fold measurement and the levels of two specific hormones in your blood and via a calculation them comes up with a probability.

Mine came back as 1 in 180: so just above the cut-off for the NHS "high risk". But if the nhs classify you as high risk all they will offer is a CVS, which involved sticking a needle into the uterus to get the baby's DNA. This carries a small risk of provoking a miscarriage, so personally I would never risk it. DH and I have agreed in the past that we wouldn't abort a downs baby (though I think you never really know until you're actually faced with the decision). Last time around I considered shelling out for a harmony test, but used the data on the Queen Mary site to figure out that my blood test results were perfectly normal - the only thing pushing my risk factor up was the nuchal measurement (which is a pretty inexact science) combined with my age. So we left it. And DS is totally normal.

Hope that helps!

pushit · 13/07/2018 21:48

The problem is... there are many far more problematic and severe syndromes and handicaps a child can be born with that can't be tested for or seen until late in pregnancy or birth.

frenchgal · 13/07/2018 23:00

What about the panorama with microdeletions?

Bozley47 · 13/07/2018 23:01

In certain regions, Exeter being one of them if you are deemed to be high risk on your nuchal thickness and initial screening tests you can then have the harmony test for free. I don’t think it’s nationwide but I may be wrong. Hopefully all of us will have lower risk results and healthy babies x

Bozley47 · 13/07/2018 23:03

I think they call it something different but it is essentially the same test.

KneesupGaston · 13/07/2018 23:07

@pushit you're so right. My son looked to be a totally healthy boy until his newborn hearing screening. We found out at 8 weeks that he is profoundly deaf. No family history. This just happens in 1 and a thousand babies and there's no test pre birth that could tell you if your baby will be deaf.

I'm not a religious person but I do believe that you get the baby who was meant for you and my little boy was meant to come to me. We will not be having any diagnostic testing for this pregnancy other than the standard 20 week scan. I wouldn't change my little boy for the world and I'll love my next baby just as they are too.

Bas27 · 14/07/2018 06:50

Hi all, does anyone mind if I tentatively join?
Just got my bfp with an estimated due date of march the 27th.
Currently a mere: 1 (+3)
No dcs at home
Age 26/DH28

Bas27 · 14/07/2018 07:13

I realised that my maths isn't right there... this is going to take some getting used to...
I'm 3+4!

SuperSharpShooter82 · 14/07/2018 07:30

Hi @Bas27! That's my DH's birthday, good day to be born! Congrats and welcome.

Re testing I didn't care last time but this time I would consider a termination if the tests at either scan flagged something up. Obviously it depends what and how severe. However the way I now see it is I have to consider DD now and how it may impact on her quality of life. Apologies if that offends or upsets anyone.

I felt so sick last night I went to bed at 8pm! Didn't want any food but sure the fact I didn't eat made it worse! Anyone else find their nausea is worse in the evening? Maybe it's because I was so tired?

Wineandchoccy · 14/07/2018 08:02

I feel rough Sad

ErikaSt · 14/07/2018 08:52

Nooooo @wineandchoccy! I was counting on you to continue the hungry brigade - convinced myself that perhaps I’ll just be hungry instead of getting morning sickness. 😄😄 Dreading getting morning sickness, it sounds terrible.

Hi @bas37 - congratulations!

Wineandchoccy · 14/07/2018 09:04

Dd got up this morning and I thought I will just have 5 more minutes then woke up to find she has decorated the fireplace in Gruffalo stickers moral of the story no matter how rough you feel get up Grin

puravida31 · 14/07/2018 09:14

I’m with you on the hungry brigade @ErikaSt! Although I find if I don’t eat quite quickly, it then turns to nausea instead. Just need to make sure I’m constantly armed with snacks I think!

Hope it doesn’t last too long @wineandchoccy 😕

hamandpease · 14/07/2018 09:15

Third morning in a row I've been sick at exactly the same time. I'm 7+1 (although midwife yesterday wouldn't budge from LMP so 7+6) so I understand it's all ramped up and symptoms will get worse now but does anyone know when this daily vomming will likely stop? 12 weeks?! 🤦‍♀️😂

Jenlou1992 · 14/07/2018 09:32

Hearing about people vomiting feeling anxious on wjen I'm going to start if i do ! .

I've started with some back pain this morning . Currently 5+2 LMP

Told my mum last night . She didn't believe me . I still live with her . Just me her and the dog . She is excited tho . Me and my partner are in the process of house hunting tho . It's all so exciting but overwhelming.

I've been working all week and working all weekend . Don't have a day off till Tuesday and by god am I going to rest.

This forum is amazing . Thanks everyone for sharing all your experiences xx

ErikaSt · 14/07/2018 10:01

@winesndchoccy That made me laugh out loud! How old is she?

@puravida31 its crazy how hungry I’ve been. I have a lunch bag for work and this week it’s been stuffed full with food. I never noticed before how tricky it is to find healthy snacks in the shop. I’ve added bread to the shopping list this week (we rarely eat it) because about half hour after breakfast my stomach is rumbling again!

Thankfully I’m craving savoury stuff, strawberries and satsumas. I usually have a sweet tooth so it could have been dangerous!

@jenlou1992 I love it too. So hard not being able to talk to anyone about it. I try to talk to dh but it hasn’t properly sunk in for him yet. He’s excited and being lovely, just not as obsessed with it all as me! 😃

Bas27 · 14/07/2018 10:24

Thanks for the welcomes guys. It's not really hit me yet and it's very early! Trying to stay positive though. Some of you are super far along!
I've not got any real symptoms as if yet.
Same ones as I usually have for my period... backache and sore boobs.
