@ladycarlotta I am so excited about our scan....gonna book for 8 weeks in the hope of being able to see a heart beat! and to see if multiples or not....twins on my dads side twice. I would secretly love twins....only for my first as I wouldn't know any better! DH disagrees and thinks i'm mad!

RachaelT · 13/07/2018 15:01

I love that things get passed on like that @BadBadBeans - I'd not really thought about it but I'm sure my little one will be taught to count as I was - counting up and down the stairs every time we go up/down them, I remember my mum telling me that; and that when naughty they'll have to sit on the top step until they feel they can apologise, as I did a number of times; and we'll bake cakes and cookies and little one will lick the bowl out as is evidenced in photos of me aged 3ish 😂😊

ladycarlotta · 13/07/2018 15:36

@murphyrocks oh, that's a shame. 8 weeks will be good though - more to see, I should think.

@fuzzywuzzy01 I actually dreamt that I had the scan the other day and there were two in there! It would have been really freaky if today it had turned out there was, but nope - definitely just the one. I'm fine with that, I think I'd be terrified of having twins for all sorts of reasons, although as DP said, 'it would get it all out of the way'. Hmm. Congratulations on your pregnancy AND your weight loss, by the way! Amazing achievement! I lost my granddad a few months ago and it was heart-wrenching - I had a proper cry the other day thinking about how he'd never see the baby. If it's a boy it'll have his name for its middle name though.

I actually booked a private 9 week scan before I got this NHS one, so I think I'll keep the appointment and make sure the little one's grown before the 12 week dating scan. I know I need to chill out, I'm just not quite there...

ladycarlotta · 13/07/2018 15:38

oh yes @RachaelT @badbadbeans I'm so excited to get them the picture books I loved! All those things from childhood that you can recreate from the other perspective - I'm really looking forward to it.

WildFlower2018 · 13/07/2018 16:14

Congrats on the scans ladies! I think I'm going to book a private one for two weeks time (when I'm 8w). So exited!

Had my booking appt today and chatting with the midwife about some parts felt a bit surreal..! Like my brain hasn't fully caught up with the fact I'm preggo and will grow a bump and a baby! 😱

I'm absolutely sick of feeling sick now. It just seems to be non stop nausea from morning to evening, subsiding for an hour or so once I've eaten. When it's at its worst, thoughts of food I now can't stand Will pop into my head, almost as if it's to make me throw up. Like my body wants me to get it all my system? God I just hope all this nausea doesn't mean I'm having twins 😱😱😱 on the other hand I'm pretty happy to be having symptoms as it's a good indication everything is ok, so I can't complain.

I had a few days where I couldn't face anything that wasn't beige! Also worried that's part of the reason I'm feeling so sick, cus I'm eating too much beige 🤣

Jenlou1992 · 13/07/2018 16:23

WildFlower2018 I'm with you on the nausea . It's non stop . I have no appetite and when I eat I still feel nauseous but I'm not throwing up and it's exciting because it constantly reminds me something is growing inside .

I haven't made any app yet. Do i contact my GP first
X

RachaelT · 13/07/2018 16:28

Hi @Jenlou1992 it seems to vary from surgery to surgery... speak with a receptionist and they'll be able to advise. I told my GP and he did nothing - spoke to a receptionist and now I'm booked with a midwife for a pre-booking in appointment next Wednesday.

Wish the NHS could have some form of standardisation!

Jenlou1992 · 13/07/2018 16:32

RachaelT thank you . I will give them a call. I know what your saying . What happens in one district isn't the same in another ! Should all be the same. I work for the NHS so I know how frustrating it can be for people at times . Although forever greatful for the free healthcare ❤ x

hamandpease · 13/07/2018 16:37

@SuperSharpShooter82 this is my first pregnancy

She did note down I would speak to a consultant at a later date but before that, when I replied to her question that my preference was to have an ELCS, she put her pen down, sighed, leaned back and crossed her arms before asking for my reasons.

She seemed annoyed and I felt like a naughty school girl but luckily she's moving areas so I'll be seeing someone new at 16 weeks

RachaelT · 13/07/2018 16:47

Indeed we should all be grateful for the NHS and the free healthcare we can all have when we need it. There's so many NHS workers who don't receive the recognition they deserve - I was talking to a friend who's a podiatrist and is thinking of going completely private in order to be able to enjoy her job as at present she splits her time between NHS and others and the NHS work is so time and success rate driven.

Sarahandduckarehigh · 13/07/2018 16:50

@most improved I have the stretching and lower back pains too. I'm trying to tell myself it is normal and all is well as long as I don't see any blood.

@fuzzywuzzy01 Congrats on the pregnanct and weight loss! I'm a size 18 and have been my entire life. In my first pregnancy I only put on weight on the bump and when I was weighed 8 weeks after giving birth I was 10kg lighter than at booking in! Hoping for a similar effect this time.

@hamandpease A lady from my 2016 group successfully argued for an ELCS with her first pregnancy on the basis of infertility treatment, previous losses and anxiety about the birth. Fundamentally it is your choice: just be clear and consistent with your reasons and don't back down. I'm sorry the midwife demonstrated such a lack of empathy in this case - good thing that you don't have to see her again!

I told my boss today. She was lovely.

WildFlower2018 · 13/07/2018 17:21

@Jenlou1992 glad it's not just me! Phew!

yeah if you ring the receptionist should tell you the process. Seems like it varies by location/nhs trust. In my area, the receptionist booked me straight in with the midwife who has a room at my Drs practice. I've read on here that some people have had home visits, some have had to see a Dr first, some have had pre booking in group meetings, etc!

In case you didn't already know, the normal time to see the nurse is around 8w 🙂 (I'm only 6w but I think they booked me in early because they didn't have many slots open and I'm away at 8w.)

WildFlower2018 · 13/07/2018 17:22

Woooops I didn't see others had already answered your Q 🙂

hamandpease · 13/07/2018 17:35

One thing which would be great to understand (if anyone who's already had kids) is the blood test which is done in conjunction with the nuchal scan?

The MW ran through it extremely quicker and then asked me to sign for it explaining that it will show up as '1 in x or 1 in y' chance and at that point I could choose to have further tests if I wanted to (I asked if this was the harmony test I had read about and she said they use a different provider and kept mentioning how much it was, it was a bit like a sales technique was a bit odd!)

Anyway I didn't get to ask what it should be

I've done some googling and will be 31 by the time the baby's born and this is the age I should use- anyone know what the results should be for a 31 year old?

I don't have any friends who've already had babies, no close female relatives and I genuinely few a bit overwhelmed and alone after this morningSad

pushit · 13/07/2018 17:42

@hamandpease so they couldn't get the measurements from my scan as baby was in silly position twice, so they did a blood test instead. But I'm pretty sure sometimes they can just go off the scan? Anyway, you tend to get back a very rough idea of chances of DS. So 1 in 1000 or 1 in 10000 - something like that. If they think you're high risk of DS they can do another test on NHS which does pose a threat of mc. The harmony test can be booked privately and gives a more accurate idea of high likely DS is and poses no threat to the baby.
Does that answer your question?

mostimproved · 13/07/2018 17:44

@hamandpease when I had it they gave a '1 in x' result and also 'low risk', and the ranges were printed on the letter they gave me. It is a combination of your blood test and the nuchal fold measurement that gives the ratio. There are further tests you can have on the NHS if you come out as high risk but I believe these carry risks themselves, whereas tests like harmony are non- invasive but you have to have them privately.

hamandpease · 13/07/2018 17:53

Thanks @pushit and @mostimproved that makes sense

Do you know at what stage 'x' moves from low risk to high risk?

Thanks again

TheWanderlust · 13/07/2018 17:55

Does anyone else have an extremely hot tum? Like actually on fire 🔥

OH is finding himself hilarious with his "bun in the oven" comments today... because things have to cook 😅

HidCat · 13/07/2018 17:56

@fuzzywuzzy01 congratulations on the pregnancy and the impressive weight loss! I'm sure you'll be fine through pregnancy, many larger ladies manage to get through without gaining much and it soon settles afterwards (usually). I'm a bit worried as in my first I gained 2.5 stone and lost it all in a few months but I'm now starting at the weight I was at 9mths with my son. Had a MC in January which I gained half a stone and haven't shifted (oops). Comfort eating has a lot to answer for!

I'm with @BadBadBeans, I got just comfy enough to do a bump pic at 11 weeks and started bleeding that night. This time I'm going to start sooner so I have more to remember this one should it all go wrong. I've also bought a koala teddy for it.

@mostimproved @ErikaSt @ladycarlotta I get sharp pains in my stomach area off and on, is that similar to yours? Mind you I have had horrible diarrhoea this week so it could be that.

@RachaelT I did that with my DS too! Only problem was we only got to 13...

Just had a friend texting to tell me she's due in December! It's so hard not to tell her anything! 🙈

puravida31 · 13/07/2018 17:57

Congratulations on all the successful scans today ladies! I’m trying to wait it out for the NHS 12 week one, but getting disheartened that I haven’t even heard from the midwives yet. Im 7 weeks on Sunday, so think I might chase up the GP Monday?

@RachaelT we’re also off to Paris soon for our wedding anniversary, when are you going?

ErikaSt · 13/07/2018 18:01

@hidcat yes, mainly in my ovary areas. Apparently it’s normal. I learned each time I got the sharp pain it was gas...without giving too much information 😉 Most of the time it’s dull aches like my period pains used to be.

RachaelT · 13/07/2018 18:37

We'll be there this time next week @puravida31 when do you go?

DH is really excited about going on Eurostar - his dad was a signalman so he's been brought up playing on the UKs largest trainset!

SuperSharpShooter82 · 13/07/2018 18:50

Uh @hamandpease how patronising! The least she could have done was listen to your reasons and discuss any concerns! Keep pushing and be firm in what you want. I hope it all works out.

My DD managed to knee me in the stomach/hip this afternoon. I'm so worried about being pregnant with a toddler! I'm like her personal climbing frame!

Getting really nervous about my scan on Sunday now Sad

puravida31 · 13/07/2018 18:56

Haha! @RachaelT my DH is also very excited about the Eurostar & going through the tunnel...such big kids!
We don’t go until August, but looking forward to having our (hopefully) last grown up holiday for a little while. Have a lovely time!

Shampooeeee · 13/07/2018 18:59

@hamandpease I got my results as a risk factor for my age and then adjusted for the test results. Eg:
1 in 1500 based on age
1 in 3500 based on age, blood test and scan measurements.
