Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BabyMadandBIGbump · 12/06/2007 23:08

MW app went very well, baby is head down "thank god" so even baby is getting ready, but LO is so active that one of these nights s/he will pop his/her waters , HB fine too, see her again in 14 days, it's going by fast now !

Washersaurus · 12/06/2007 23:25

I am so pleased everything was ok at your appt BabyMad. You are right about it whizzing by now - I keep forgetting how close the 1st Aug is getting. I MUST get DH up in the loft to sort out the moses basket and DS' old clothes and stuff.

Hersetta · 13/06/2007 08:55

Glad your appt went well babymad. You're right though Wash 1st August sounds very close, whilst 27th for me sounds ages away!

Had to leave work early yesterday as it was so hot in the office I began to feel really unwell - baby was off colour as well as was very quite all day - didn't get to 10 kicks until after 3pm - as a comparison I had 9 on the train journey in this morning by 8am. Our office air conditioning is broken and it must have been between 32-35 degrees in here yesterday and I felt awful and pretty close to tears, certainly couldn't concentrate on work so I left at 4.55 and felt fine by the time I got home.

baby must have felt better as well as she kicked away all night whilst watching TV - started by my DH who was rubbing my tummy and talking to her and she responded to him with 5/6 big kicks which he was chuffed with.

Really looking forward to going to my Mum's this weekend and being fussed over all the time - not that DH doesn't but am looking forward to seeing my Mum so she can see my mini bump.

tokentotty · 13/06/2007 09:40

Oh Hersetta you should be working from home if conditions are that bad in your office. It's supposed to be even hotter today...

Glad to hear all went well Babymad. Everytime Betty confirms that Peanut is still head down I start breathing a big sigh of relief. He'd changed position though last week so got ordered to make sure I really was always lying on my left side which I have been doing, but will just have to try and lie around even more from now on
Know what you mean about feeling like it's going to make a break for freedom any time given the strength of punches that seem carefully aimed downwards....

RANT ALERT RANT ALERT RANT ALERT

I have just encountered the rudest most obnoxious sloney b*tch ever! AND i am fuming! She decided to get off the bus as half the people trying to get on were through the doors and proceeds to try to walk through me and my bump with her suitcase whilst honking "get out of the way you stupid people"! I couldn't move for the people behind me so in order to protect my bump i had to force her sideways with my elbow which she was not pleased about hence followed numerous expletives on both sides. This is in addition to me putting on odd shoes this morning and not realising til i got to the station and having to return home to put on a matching pair and being shut in on broken down train at London Bridge for 15 mins.

Ok, sorry, rant over i can catch up on everyones posts now.

Washersaurus · 13/06/2007 10:21

Oh MrsShuvel what a crappy start to the day!

Before I realised that I was pregnant with DS, I spent a whole evening at college with odd shoes on, and noone mentioned it. I realised when I got home, I felt sooo embarrassed ; infact it was that event that led to me doing the pregnancy test

jem1969 · 13/06/2007 10:27

Don't worry, she'll get her come uppance one day- she probably has no friends..
I went to quite a smart party once and realised half way through the evening that I had on one pointy black high heeled boot and one rounded brown boot. Wasn't pregnant either so no excuse (but was fairly drunk when discovered so didn't really care- those were the days!- god I could do with a nice cold G&T in these hot evenings)

Babylovesmuffins · 13/06/2007 10:36

Oh Mrs Shuvel, what a nightmare start to the day. It's commuting that drives me mad at the moment too - some people are just so bloody rude. Not long to go now though...

Hersetta - TT's right, you shouldn't be working in those conditions under normal circumstances, nevermind while you're pregnant. I'd stay at home until they got it sorted if I were you When I came back to work after Christmas our boiler at the office had broken down and it was freezing AND they didn't get it fixed properly for about 2 weeks!! It was too early to tell people that I was pregnant but I took a few days off sick anyway - felt a bit guilty at the time but they didn't leave me with much choice.

Glad to hear everyone else's appointments went well.

Babylovesmuffins · 13/06/2007 10:40

Jem, I can highly recommend a glass of tonic water with ice and lemon as a kind-of substitute!! Apparently tonic water is good for helping leg cramps too (so one of my colleagues tells me but I've no idea why).

jem1969 · 13/06/2007 10:46

BLM- the tonic water is quite a good substitute isn't it! I had quite a lot of those when I was just pregnant at Xmas and hadn't told anyone. Just kept saying "I'll make the drinks!" Lime is better than lemon thoigh in my humble opinion!

tokentotty · 13/06/2007 10:48

God MrsS I'd have been in a police station because of the cow. Probably as I'd have removed whichever odd shoe I liked least and started beating her bimbo, Sloaney head with it....

Perhaps I need a G&T too Jem...

Morning all. Afraid I am also finding the commute to be hell, and hell is other people (in the words of Dorothy Parker) Poor MrsShuvel you must have been utterly livid. My issue, and it is much less annoying than arrogant girls with suitcases, is with London Lite "sellers" and people giving out phone cards stepping RIGHT into my way when I am desperately struggling to put one foot in front of the other. Afraid this morning I stood stock still and said very angrily "Do I look like I want to be stopped right now??" to an obliviously cheerful chap.
I know it was rude but I seem to get to the end of my tether so easily...

Glad everyone's appointments have/are going so well. I am so curious about all of you that actually meet consultants and consultant anaestheticians? What hospitals are these - are they out of London?

I was alarmed to see the Royal Free in headlines for all the wrong reasons yesterday. Even if there is such a midwife shortage, surely the bad ones ought not be allowed to cause misery to people?

Hersetta, I agree with everyone else. You should speak to a first aider and just say that the working conditions are unsafe for a pregnant woman and you will be at home until all is fixed. You can't risk overheating. I had that happen back in April and it was really scary. I hyperventilated and fainted and I was sure the baby was short of oxygen.

Jem, I laughed so much at the image of your birthing ball bouncing out of the car and down the Fulham Road!

jem1969 · 13/06/2007 11:14

Have to say I'm not that botherered about the commute at the moment (sorry!) I generally always get a seat and once I'm in I don't care if the tube gets delayed for hours as long as I'm sat down! Also think I'm more tolerant of tw*ts as I just let it wash over me a bit. People seem to be much nicer actually and when they see me coming towards them seem to move out of the way. It's a bit like Moses partung the sea or something like that (not too hot on my bible). (bonus of ginormous bump- well feels ginormous to me).
Kiteflying-I'm in London and haven't seen a single person other than a MW or GP and don't think I will be unless get complications.

Mrsshuvel · 13/06/2007 11:41

Still haven't managed to catch up on the posts yet, trying to upload some pics of the dresses i wore for the wedding. Does anyone know what size the files must be for them to upload?

Hersetta · 13/06/2007 11:54

thanks all. problem is there is no sign of things improving because the air con system is not just broken, it's missing !! We are located in a building that is being refurbished - we are on the 1st floor and they are refurbing floors 2-4 and the workmen ripped out the building air con system without tewlling my company they were going to do it. That was in April so we have had no real air con since then. i have a portable air con unit about 4 feet from me but it makes very little difference as the hot air it chugs out can't go anywhere as we don't have windows that open.
I did mean to bring in the room thermometer I bought for the baby's room but forgot it today - will try and remember tomorrow.

Spoke to our office manager and asked when it will all be fixed and she just walked off chuntering I've had it with dealing with them (the contractors) and they never give me a stright answer. That's all right then i though you're Ok as you sit my a large window that opens and is nice and cool and you're not 7 months pregnant. bah !!

Tube is bloody awful as well - still never been offered a seat despite me resorting to wearing my baby on board badge from London underground. I think people just think I am extra fat.

Kite, i am supposed to have an appointment with an anaesthetician but they haven't contacted me yet. I have a 32 week scan and a consultants appt on 5th July so they'll probably remember then that they need to fit in that as well - I'm at the Rosie maternity hospital in Cambridge.

Mrsshuvel · 13/06/2007 12:00

Hersetta - DP told me to go up to men on the train and say which one of you lovely gentlemen is going to offer a PG woman a seat then. He thinks they would all be embarrassed and wouldn't be able to get up fast enough. He says that men are often too shy to offer incase we're not actually PG and thump them.

kiteflying · 13/06/2007 12:06

Hersetta, that is just hideous.

Please don't rely on people noticing you on the Tube - especially as you have no relief once you get to the office. Just stand in front of whoever is sitting in the priority seat, and say "Excuse me, do you mind if I take that seat. I am pregnant and am not allowed to stand." It works. Practice in front of a mirror if you have to.

Hersetta · 13/06/2007 12:26

i know I should be more assertive - can't quite bring myself to do it yet. Frantic bump stroking doesn't appear to be working though!

kiteflying · 13/06/2007 12:44

I think I must just have one of those "don't mess with me" faces when I have to ask for a seat!

MrsBadger · 13/06/2007 13:51

I only see consultants (at the JR in Oxford) because of my inherited clotting allegedly 'high risk' saga - wouldn't have got near one otherwise.

Though the one I saw yesterday looked at all my (many many) test results so far and said 'Well, it seems you're perfectly fine - we'll see you in ten weeks' time'. I pointed out that that would be my due date and she said 'Oh, if you've delivered before then the appointment'll automatically be cancelled'.

So I am free of the High Risk unit and back to the brusque MW at my local surgery...

Am fuming on behalf of all the commuters - I get on the bus at the first stop and off at the last one and have not yet had to stand at all [fingers crossed].

conkertree · 13/06/2007 14:14

phew - have finally caught up - lost the place slightly at the end of last week, and have been trying to catch up at lunchtimes since.

good to hear how everyone is getting on. still chuckling at the while you're down there comment.

50 days to go today for those of us due on 1st. quite exciting.

wondering if the baby might have changed position today cause it feels quite a lot heavier in front, and it has been wriggling like mad for the last two days - makes me laugh sometimes just how much it moves.

sleeping for me is very mixed - some nights right through, others my hips are very very painful - but doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to which night will be which. am slightly regretting buying a house without a toilet upstairs though.

hopefully wont fall behind again now that i'm caught up - hope you are all having good days.

bananabump · 13/06/2007 14:47

Hi guys, sorry you're having problems with the commute. I really feel for those of you who are in London in this hot weather (and we haven't seen anything yet) I couldn't handle the pace I don't think, being at home can be boring but I bet it's doing wonders for my blood pressure. That girl on the bus sounds horrible MrsShuvel, I bet she'll act like a right primadonna when she's pregnant!

Hersetta I feel your pain re: no-one seeing that you're pregnant. I do have a bump now, but nobody notices it and no-one has said "ooh, when's it due?" or anything, but then they could just be trying to be polite and not offend? After all, it could just look like I've been scoffing a few extra pies.

Ooh, and my freedom sling came yesterday (hope I didn't already mention this) I got this one in that cream and multicoloured dotty fabric. It seems quite secure (with bag of spuds in) but there's a lot of spare material. I'll have to wait and see if it's a bad thing or not since I'm going to attempt to breastfeed in the sling so the tail can be used to cover up discreetly. Either that or I'll make it into a bit of a pocket for storing a spare nappy/few wipes if we're just popping out for an hour.

Hersetta · 13/06/2007 14:57

looks good banana - and a bargain too. i ordered a slingeasy on Tuesday so will see how i get on with that - will be ideal for travelling to my Mum's in Spain if it works as well as the blurb.

Washersaurus · 13/06/2007 15:32

Bananabump - I can't comment on the ring slings, but I bought a 'murrons pouch' sling from that lady when DS was smaller which was absolutely fab. She even made it in a camo fabric for me . It got loads of comments, if I have another boy I will dig it out of storage.

I am wanting to try out a mei tai sling this time around, if I can find one cheap enough; as it looks more secure and hopefully will mean I will be able to feed and move around and do things with DS too

What is the slingeasy like Hersetta? I haven't come across one.

Conkertree - sleeping is a mixed bag for me too, had a terrible weekend with about 6 hrs sleep in total, but have slept like a log for past 2 nights...hoorah!
