As we enter month 5 of our pregnancies we need a 5th thread!

Good luck to everyone having their 20 week scan this/next week :)

Ahhhh liners!!!! That makes total sense. I'm glad it doesn't involve putting poopy things in the washing machine..

BertieBotts · 02/07/2018 15:59

DH's entire argument against washable is that he doesn't want poo in the washing machine. I don't particularly mind either way but I do think washables are cute. I just find it funny that he's so adamant.

WaitingforToto · 02/07/2018 16:20

No poo in the machine @BertieBotts ! Friends with babes tell me about 'explosions' where whole outfits have to be washed, so may as well put the nappy in the wash too!

WaitingforToto · 02/07/2018 16:23

I've also got a bucket to put them in that has a mesh liner, and when the bucket is full you just put the whole liner with the nappies inside in the wash, so you don't have to re-handle to worn nappies, and they only go in the machine with other nappies, not other clothes. The size of the bucket and mesh liner is apparently one full load of washing, and the bucket 'promises' to stop any smells. So I think it's all as straight forward as it can be.

Emmasmum2013 · 02/07/2018 16:31

Whenever there was a 'poo explosion' we always ended up chucking the clothes. I don't think there were a lot of times where I would feel so attached to the article of clothing that I'd go to the effort of rinsing it all and washing it clean. Especially, your basic vests/bodysuits. Thankfully they were few and far between so didn't throw a lot out! I don't think I'd have put them in the machine without a good rinse in sink/bath first to get the worst off. I can't imagine having to do that with every nappy.. so liners is a good way to sort it :)

BertieBotts · 02/07/2018 21:51

Well, exactly! I hope he doesn't go throwing away perfectly good clothes. Rinse the lumps and wash...

I actually think washing the poo down the drain (whether that's via a machine or the toilet or the shower...) is much more hygienic and less yuck than leaving it sitting around the house in a bin for however many days until you cart it downstairs anyway Grin

Apparently it's fairly common in the US to buy a "diaper sprayer" attachment for the toilet which is not only great for cloth nappies, it also makes a lovely kind of bidet attachment.

BeesKnees9 · 03/07/2018 09:29

ooo @waitingfortoto I would love to hear how you get on once baby arrives with the reusable nappies.

I looked into them as my partner was quite keen to give them a go (from a cost perspective) and I also hate the thought of all those nappies going into landfill. I got quite overwhelmed with all the choice to be honest and the benefits of 1 part/2 part systems. I think we are going with disposables and then moving towards reusables when they are a bit older. Not sure how this works once the baby is in childcare though!

I am going on a hospital tour tomorrow evening, has anyone else been on one yet? I have a load of questions to ask but don't want to look daft!

peterpanwendy · 03/07/2018 10:14

We need a new thread!! This will probably be our birth thread ShockGrin I made the last one so if someone else wants to make the next one then please post the link here! If not I don't mind x

No go ahead :) Impending births in the title :D

WaitingforToto · 03/07/2018 12:13

Crikey - the final push!!!

Gizzymum · 03/07/2018 15:58

@BeesKnees9 I went on a hospital tour last time and they prefer it if you ask questions so they don't have to think of stuff to say all the way round, so ask away! And there's no such thing as a stupid question.

peterpanwendy · 03/07/2018 16:26

@BeesKnees9 I am going on mine on Friday! Would love to hear how yours goes x

@BertieBotts thank you for that photo.

The river posted upthread looks so inviting, especially in this heatwave!

Gem173 · 03/07/2018 16:51

Had my second growth scan today, baby’s doing fine he’s measuring correctly in terms of weeks. He even had his hand to his head as if to say ‘dear god Mum how many times do we have to come here’ lol

I’m not bothering to look round the hospital just go with the flow I think!
Had my first antenatal class. Was very interesting and informative but now it seems too real and I’m slightly terrified of the pain and the stages of labour 😩

Gem173 · 03/07/2018 16:53

Here’s another photo of little one :) also bought the baby a nemo swim costume 😂 he’s going swimming once he’s 8 weeks to start learning. Oh Mum insists he goes. He’s gunna look so daft!

@Gem173 don't worry about labour too much - there is pain relief so ask if you feel like you need it. If they think the timing isn't right eg too close to giving birth etc they'll tell you and can re-explain any pros and cons then (just tell OH in advance if there's anything you really don't or do want so he can stick up for you). As for the stages of labour - for me they all blurred into one so try not to worry.

peterpanwendy · 03/07/2018 18:58

I have made the new thread, it's called:
