@Emmasmum2013 if i knew there was one that counts the powder too i would have gone for that 😂. I just have no desire to even try breast feeding, and as you say means dad can help too!

@Gem173 i didnt know they did clothes either, all very cute! I can't bring myself to buy anything bigger than 0-3 months at the moment, i dont want him to grow 😫 (well i do but i dont, you know what i mean lol) xx

Gizzymum · 13/05/2018 20:24

@Emmasmum2013 I'm in a similar position re: breastfeeding. With my first I was kept in 4 nights as DS wouldn't feed well, and I persevered for 3 months (with many trips to bf support groups, GP and HV due to DS poor weight gain), until DS decided to refuse BF and just drank his top up bottle and weened himself onto formula. Looking back I wish health professionals had told me to stop BF earlier, rather than the pressure to continue at all costs (including each feed taking an hour at least)

I don't know what to do this time though - whether to try BF or not. I do love the fact DH can help out as it means I'll stand a chance of getting 3hrs sleep in one go each night, plus you know how much they eat.

Emmasmum2013 · 14/05/2018 12:17

Breastfeeding is always a topic I'm quite strong on. I can't get my head round why some women persevere through mastitis and cracked bleeding nipples and constant sleepless nights, and then the weaning! You know what's better for your child than breastfeeding? Having a sane mother.

Seriously, I will never understand the hype around how someone feeds their kid. Like, oh, cool. You breastfed your kid for two years? Has Cambridge called offering early acceptance yet? And no person has ever ended up on a psychiatrist’s couch saying “my parents formula fed me, so now I kill stray cats with a hammer in my spare time.”

I know there's immune system benefits.. but exactly what? And how much? Because looking at kids who were breast fed compared to formula fed kids, I can't tell a difference, or certainly not a difference worth putting myself through something I hate so much.

My advice is to try it, if you don't take to it, don't feel guilty about going to formula.

Hello all,

I hope it's not too late to join in! I'm 26 weeks tomorrow and we are expecting our first child, a girl - at least we hope it's a girl as we've already pretty much everything pink we come across! lol.
We had a private gender scan at 17 weeks and going for a 4D scan on Thursday. So excited! Anyone else having a 4D scan soon?

@couchgriffon Hi 🙋🏼‍♀️ congrats on your baby girl!

couchgriffon · 14/05/2018 14:47

Thanks for the welcoming posts!

nikkil123 that's brilliant, are you going to get a video as well?

Gem173 · 14/05/2018 17:01

Hey @couchgriffon congrats on the baby girl! I will be having a 4D scan on June 17th Father’s Day when I’m 29 weeks :) can’t wait to see his little face! I thinking we bought the basic package as at the time we wanted it but wanted to use our money to by baby items for the nursery

MamOfFrankie · 14/05/2018 18:53

Evening all - I breastfed my daughter but can totally understand the "fed is best" attitude. I actually experienced a but of it the other way; people round where I was living thought I was strange for breastfeeding! I have just accepted that there is no way to bring up your baby / toddler / child / teenager without someone weighing in with an unhelpful opinion. As long as you are happy :).

After a weekend of not very much movement, baby is going CRAZY tonight and my bump is actually moving from side to side! Hope this isn't a sign of a hyperactive baby to come.

nikkil123 · 14/05/2018 19:06

Evening everyone Smile
Hope you have all felt some lovely twists and turns today.
FYI these are on offer with Amazon at the moment, mine arrived today xx

Evening All. Hope you dont mind a latecomer to the party. I’ll be 25 weeks pregnant on Wednesday with my second. Due date is August 29th, we are team yellow. My daughter will be 3 in June. I remember my internet Mums being my saviours at 3am in the newborn days so i’m hoping to find a due date gang this time round too.

peterpanwendy · 14/05/2018 21:20

Aww! That's lovely :) I am impatiently waiting until Friday to take pictures of my stash Grin as then I think I will have to put the brakes on buying more.

Emmasmum2013 · 15/05/2018 11:36

Welcome to the newcomers!! :)

@peterpanwendy where is that lovely bodysuit from?
I love that floral/vintage style and I've got a few things in that theme already!

somersetsinger · 15/05/2018 12:13

You're all very organised and have inspired me to start getting my act together. I'm. Not quite sure what baby clothes we already have as I've loaned them all out and they haven't come back yet. I do remember not quite having enough tiny/newborn stuff and DD being swamped by the up to 1 month/0-3 for quite some time. Also, no.2 will need winter clothes for the time when no.1 was in summer stuff. So I've bought some mega cut newborn vests and joggers and jumpers in 3-6. That will have to do for now.

Kiki275 · 15/05/2018 22:08

Wow, you're all really organised. So far my purchases consist of:
5x bibs
2x rompers
1x bedside crib.
That's it ☹ x

peterpanwendy · 15/05/2018 22:24

@Emmasmum2013 it's from a shop called Newbie, one just appeared in my local shopping centre I'm not sure if it's a chain? But their stuff is BEAUT and reasonably priced too for the good quality you get :) I'm also in love with anything floral 😍

Hey ladies sorry I haven’t talked much since, but been having a week long battle with thrush. Had been prescribed a pessary yesterday and used it overnight however i couldn’t insert it properly as it was painful to even push into my vagina and because its a pessary it dissolved quickly and I’m not sure I even got it in properly. This has really frustrated me as it took a lot of time and effort to get my prescription. So taking day off work today to go to emergency appt get looked at and get a swab done to be sure it’s thrush. Also hoping to be prescribed an internal cream instead of a pessary as for some reason my vagina does not want to be poked, prodded or stretched :( hope everyone else’s pregnancies are going smoothly

Gem173 · 16/05/2018 10:29

I’m 25 weeks today does being off sick today and basically yesterday effect my mat pay? I work for nhs

SpriteGirl · 16/05/2018 11:59

Hi Gem173. Sorry to hear you’ve been struggling hope you get it sorted today.

No it doesn’t affect your mat pay in any way. The law is that if you are off work in the 4 weeks leading up to your due date AND the sickness is pregnancy related your material leave will be triggered and statutory maternity leave becomes payable. But you are no where near that stage yet.

I’m not sure about the NHS but I work for a local authority and any absence for pregnancy related sickness (aside from that 4 week period I mentioned above) is not treated as sick leave or annual leave. It’s just time you get off because it could be seen as discrimination otherwise.

Emmasmum2013 · 16/05/2018 12:08

Aww Gem I really hope you feel better soon.

I work for the NHS too, and no it won't affect your mat leave or pay. It'll just go down as pregnancy related illness. Which is cool because I don't think it counts towards any kind of sickness and absence procedures your trust might have in place. We have 'stages' here, so if you're off sick too much you get placed on a 'stage 1' and if it doesn't improve you're on a stage 2 etc.. until dismissal basically. But I was off loads with HG early on and it never counted towards anything.

Gem173 · 16/05/2018 13:01

Thankyou ladies that has deffo put my mind at rest. Yes in my place of work we also have stages. Which is why I was kinda worrying but just wanted to clarify that it shouldn’t be counted. Seeing the doctors now hopefully can have my swab and also just found out I cannot have the internal cream as that’s put in by applicator so might have to ask for another silly pessary :(

Gem173 · 16/05/2018 13:28

Just come out, got a prescription for 7 more pessaries and had a swab done, should get the result in the next week
