As we enter month 5 of our pregnancies we need a 5th thread!

Good luck to everyone having their 20 week scan this/next week :)

Ah we had our BH this week, but we have another one on Thursday - May is a bit of a funny month really.

I'm finding I'm getting like refluxy in the evenings now - is that something I'd try gavisgon for? If it's not TMI it's like I am aware of something sort of in the back of my throat and I'm sometimes burping up a little bit of acidy/sick stuff but I don't feel sick, or really bloated or heartburny. But it's a bit uncomfortable and tends to come on at the point I want to go to bed which is inconvenient.

Gem173 · 05/05/2018 17:00

Yep Bertie boots, my SIL had terrible acid reflux after 20 weeks she used 2 bottles of gaviscon! She’s given me the leftovers and so far I’ve only used it once to sort out bad reflux!

nikkil123 · 05/05/2018 18:56

Hi everyone🙋🏼‍♀️
New here, currently 25+5 with first baby.

Its all getting a bit real now, sounds silly but its starting to dawn on me im going to have this tiny little bundle solely relying on me ( and boyfriend when he's not at work!) i've never even changed a nappy or made a bottle before 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Anyone else feeling / felt like this? Any reassuring tips very welcome! 😘

somersetsinger · 05/05/2018 20:49

Bertie, that's exactly what I use Gaviscon for. I have a massive bottle in the bathroom and have a good swig before bed. It just means I feel more comfortable lying down.

Nikki, you will be fine. I had the terrifying realisation a few days after DD was born that I would always be responsible for her with no days off, ever. It felt overwhelming but now that she's older (just turned 2), she is much easier to look after and I am very used to it. Plus, DH can look after her and she has a childminder so it isn't all on me.

DH and I had no experience of babies and I had never changed a nappy, held one for more than a few minutes etc. Things that helped were getting a support network in place before she was born. For us, that meant antenatal NCT sessions (still in contact with most of the other parents) and a few close friends who were already parents realising we would need help and just going out of their way to check on us in the first few bewildering months. I spent a day with a friend who had a 6 month old baby just before DD was born and it gave me a really useful insight into the reality of life as a mum.

nikkil123 · 05/05/2018 21:05

somersetsinger thank you! I booked 3 ante natal classes through the midwife for July, is that NCT? Hopefully will learn lots there. Friends have said it will come naturally but i'm struggling to see how things like nappies and bottles come naturally! We are expecting a boy so apparently if i dont get pee'd in the face im already winning?! 🙈 x

peterpanwendy · 05/05/2018 23:07

@BertieBotts I get terrible reflux exactly like you described. If it's a burning sensation with it I'd take gaviscon or rennies they're life savers!

Welcome @nikkil123 make sure you join the fb group there's lots of great advice on there. This is my first baby too and it's so daunting! I think it will all just come naturally and we'll get used to it after a little while :)

Hey @nikkil123 I’m also expecting a boy as my first baby and tbh no matter how much I worry or think about all the nappies and bottles and breast feeding and crying, just thinking what he will look like and how he will feel in my arms just pushes all those worries aside. I’m sure we will all be great parents whether you have had experience or not! Anyway all baby’s are different so worrying is natural xx

somersetsinger · 06/05/2018 10:12

NCT classes are separate from NHS ones. I haven't been to any NHS ones - last time the midwife said they would duplicate the NCT stuff (I had already booked the course) and this time she said they were in limited supply so best left to first time mums. The NCT course did cover some how to care for your newborn, which was helpful. (If you have a partner, the agreed split straight after birth was - mums do milk and dads do nappies!)

You might meet some mums to be at the NHS class or you could have a look to see if there are any local bump and new baby groups (could be useful once you're on maternity leave too). You will get help from midwives and health visitors, particularly at the start. They will keep providing support until they and you are happy that you know what you're doing. And we're here!

nikkil123 · 06/05/2018 18:36

gem173 thank you! Its all crazy but as you as will all disappear when they are here (i hope!) have you thought of names yet? There are literally no boys names i like at all 😫 xx

BertieBotts · 06/05/2018 19:38

We can't find a boy's name either nikkil!

TMI, sorry - but I am starting to feel like my baby is just trolling my bladder Hmm He sits on my kidney tube to cause trouble there. I feel like when I go for a wee I can't get everything out, almost like using a hose somebody is standing on. And then at random moments he'll just let all that built up pressure go and a little bit of wee leaks out Blush I never had this with DS1! I'll mention it to my doctor on Tuesday but how mortifying. Luckily it seems contained by a pantyliner for now which I was wearing anyway but how glamorous is pregnancy??

nikkil123 · 06/05/2018 22:05

bertebotts ive never pee'd so much in my entire bloody life! Starts from about 3am which is fun! Oh and the little accidents when i sneeze are just a delight 😫

Gem173 · 07/05/2018 13:35

Bertie botts I have exactly same problem!! Also today every time I bend I have sharp pains in the upside down triangle area above the pubic bone. If you get what I mean. Every time I bend or move it’s like he’s Sat on something and it’s really painful!

Gem173 · 07/05/2018 13:36

@nikkil123 also we have decided on a name :) we are calling him Lincoln, we both love the name and im sure it will suit him xx

nikkil123 · 07/05/2018 19:44

gem173 ohh that sounds ouchy!! Wonder what it could be 🤔

Thats a lovely name, where did you find it?
I must have been through every app available for baby names and we just cant agree on one, he likes Rocco and I like Kennedy but we both hate each others 🙄😂

Gem173 · 08/05/2018 06:57

@nikkil oh watches this guy on YouTube and his son is called Lincoln so we got used to it and ended up liking it. Wow Rocco and Kennedy ! Names I’ve never really heard of! Think I would go with Kennedy if I had to choose out of them :)

peterpanwendy · 08/05/2018 17:58

@BertieBotts I'm having a similar issue! I never used to pee a lot and now I am going so frequently, but so many times despite needing to go bad just a trickle comes out! I've been tested 3 times now for a UTI and only had one towards the beginning so it's definitely just baby being a pickle! Not glamorous at all x

@Gem173 love the name Lincoln! We are stuck between 2 but are going to decide when she's born :)

@nikkil123 we've found finding a name so hard too, I recommend watching YouTube videos, I find somehow hearing someone say the name is different to you reading it 🙈

I've asked my doctor about the weeing today and she said it's unfortunately totally normal and just to keep going regularly and keep drinking water.

About the feeling faint too - she said totally normal and just to avoid overheating if you can, keep hydrated, sit down if you feel faint, talk to doc/midwife if it is happening a lot.

I think we might have a name too? We might even be using both middle names together. I'm keeping quiet for now though! And we have time we might go off it. I am still holding out for my unusual favourite but I don't think DH is quite as keen as me.

Gem173 · 09/05/2018 08:26

24 week midwife appointment today, nice to know baby is viable at this stage! Got my whooping cough vaccine in under half hour followed by my midwife appointment. Think I may have thrush, have bought canesten thrush external cream but haven’t used it yet as I want to ask midwife if it’s okay to use. Hope everyone else’s day goes well and the warm weather stays put 🤞

BertieBotts · 09/05/2018 08:29

It's supposed to rain here tomorrow. I'm excited though as we might be getting our pram :)

szwidix89 · 09/05/2018 11:36

@Gem173 fingers crossed for your app today! ;) let me know how painful the vaccine was as I'm going to have this at the end of this month :P also I think I have thrush too as it feels itchy down there and is on/off since I found out about pregnancy. Keep applying cream when it gets worse but it's still there. I wonder if it can be related to the fact that I have had 3 UTI already this pregnancy .. seems like antibiotics don't do nothing for me :(

Gem173 · 09/05/2018 16:46

My 24 week appt went fine, belly is measuring the correct size for 24 weeks. She told me to try take some time out every day and just sit and try feel the baby wiggling. I have an anterior high placenta so she said although I don’t get many kicks I should feel him elbow me or even suck his thumb, she said if I get nothing by 28 weeks then il go for a growth scan. Rest of the appointment went fine and have booked myself in for two nhs antenatal classes and a Physiotherapy antenatal class. Next midwife appt, 6th June! Also whooping cough vaccine was done very quick and I got to save I haven’t had this much of a sore arm since I had my jabs in secondary school! It’s a real achey jab this one!!
I’ve applied the canesten cream as I’m told it’s safe and she’s sent off for a pessary in case my thrush gets worse. I’ve applied the cream twice today and only now does it feel slightly better, only slightly as I am still aware of some soreness. Hopefully it’s better tomorrow!

@szwidix89 hope you feel better soon and maybe you should ask your doctor to increase your antibiotics, some women need more. For example, I had a UTI at beginning of pregnancy and had to have a weeks course of nitrofuratoin instead of the standard 3 days to get rid of mine!

@bertiebotts nice plans! What pram are you getting and what colour?!

BertieBotts · 09/05/2018 17:22

I've found a Mutsy Evo second hand so we're going to look at that. I think from the pictures it's a metallic blue! But we'll find out tomorrow.

nikkil123 · 09/05/2018 17:24

gem173 i didnt want to say earlier how much whooping vacc hurt me as didnt want to worry you (and everyones pain threshold is obvs different) by OMG it hurt 😫😫!! Took a couple of days for it to go! Glad your appointment went well. Physio sounds good, i wasnt offered that here (Hertfordshire) 🤷🏼‍♀️

BertieBotts which pram did you go for? I ordered mine but back order with no delivery date at the moment ☹️ xx

Gem173 · 09/05/2018 20:25

@nikkil123 I know I’m in so much pain! I’ve just banged my head on the kitchen cupboard and gave in to the tears that were brimming!

nikkil123 · 09/05/2018 20:31

gem173 ouchy 😢 sounds like you need a comfy sofa a hot cuppa and some tissues!! If it makes u feel any better i've cried today because the dog rolled in fox poo and OH didnt drink his coffee i made him!
