That's a nesting job!

I'm trying to get through everything in mine because it needs defrosting and we have no money until Tuesday, so its a bit of pot luck if I can cobble together something resembling a healthy meal for the lo's.

I'm surprised no-ones done it yet, especially round here the land of the Yummy Mummy. I saw a 'baby list' van yesterday, presumably dropping off a complete baby kit complete with wipes warmer!

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 20:34

I'm not sure foxy. If going by kids clothes they are about average. The 2 year old shorts we have are too big for my dd, which is about normal. She usually wears 12-18 or 18-24 months.

What sort of ground coverage do I need for my homebirth? I was going to buy some cheapo shower curtains. Also how many old towels do you think I'll need? So much organisation needed for this homebirth thing!

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 20:37

We're the same foxy! I hope my tax credits go in tomorrow otherwise it's strange food from freezer all weekend! Today we had oven chips and pie, reasonable, but not up to usual standards!

riabutterflew · 11/05/2007 20:41

Hi again. It's so quiet here I'm lonely! (My friend is not allowed out until her boys asleep.) I won't be drinking much wine as for the first time this PG I don't feel like it! (Have a feeling of impending doom...)

I'm sure DH would love to cook meals for PG ladies! We discussed me filling our freezer the other day and he said it was hardly worth me bothering as in the time it takes me to do one meal he can produce several, so it's over to him then (I wonder if he was scared that he would have to eat my cooking for the whole of his paternity leave?)

Anyway, am definitely switching off now (just had to email the grandparents re pick-up time as I forgot to mention it when I left!) The crisps are calling...

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 20:46

DP is delighted if thats what he gets!

Do you know, I really have no idea how messy it gets! I make my bed with fresh linen, cover it with a plastic dustsheet, then towels and a fitted sheet. Probably a couple of towels on the floor too, althought the MW will bring incontinence mats which are quite absorbant.

I've never had to clear up after myself, so I don't know! I remember being left in bloody sheets in hospital which DP and my entire family came in. But I've never been left sitting in it at home!

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 20:47

Can only think of meals with mince to cook. What else should we do? And should I get a slow cooker, or will it be relegated to the cupboard with the juicer within a week?

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 20:50

I washed loads of old towels today so I'll have something comfy to lie on if I need stitching!
I might have to get my mum over to clean up! My dp is very blood phobic and is quite likely to faint if he sees too much! One reason why water birth is good for me, it is very much diluted!

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 20:52

Mine likened the state of the bedroom after DS2 was born to a scene from the Crimean War. But then the placenta was still on the bed apparently!

bumperlicious · 11/05/2007 20:53

Sorry no help on the cooking front, could do with ideas myself!

Decided not to go to the Baby show tomorrow. Tickets are £13 each, and parking is £8! Plus petrol and you are looking at £50 or so. Can't imagine you get enough freebies for that! Plus we'd only buy more stuff while we were their, after that what these things are really for. Oh well, at least I won't get knackered wondering round for hours among lots of hormonal pg women and screaming kids!

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 20:53

My mum gave me a load of old towels for the birth. But they are much nicer than the ones we use!

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 20:53

I make dp sausage casserole which I freeze sometimes. Chicken curry is also good as is stew. I can't really fill my freezer with food as dd and I are veggie and dp is not, so I almost always cook 2 meals.

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 20:53

Someone from here went and said it was crap (Bumperlicious perhaps?)

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 20:55

Bumper I think it was derlor who went to the baby show and said it was a bit crap with not many freebies! Just join loads of clubs on the internet and get freebies that way. Much cheaper and less stressful!

I thought the mw took the placenta away!

NattyThomasandEllen · 11/05/2007 20:55

i was left sitting in it all at hospital too foxy, and having had an epi (c-section) i was unable to clean it up
DH is under strict instructions to clean this time lmao

NattyThomasandEllen · 11/05/2007 20:59

i went babyshow and got tons of freebies we went round the thing three times, and still havent used all the free wipes up!
could u not jump on a bus to show? saved us the petrol and parking.. just a thought

NattyThomasandEllen · 11/05/2007 21:03

freezer meals, i have made
sausage casorole
chicken ""
shepards pie
chicken curry
fish pie
spag bol
lasange
beef stew

just sum ideas there

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 21:04

The MW does a great job clearing up! Its just he got in there too soon. My birthing partner had to go and wake him up to tell him his son had been born

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 21:06

I've always used a colemans sauce mix for sausage casserole - what do you use? I'll do a chicken curry defo - thats a great one, and stews.

Or I might just stock up from the 'reduced' ready meals section of the chiller cabinet in Sainsburys!

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 21:06

Natty, have you made them already?!

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 21:07

My dp is actually a good cook, but I don't really let him and he doesn't really want to! It works out fine! I think rather than freezing meals I shall hand over the cooking reins to him for a few weeks. It'll be fun and interesting to see what he cook!

NattyThomasandEllen · 11/05/2007 21:07

most of them yeah got to make the last of the chicken casorole up.
i use colemans too, means i can cook several things at once cos they so easy!

NattyThomasandEllen · 11/05/2007 21:09

my god i would never trust hubby, he cooked last night, and he made plain pasta and chicken in bread crumbs... OMG!

foxybrown · 11/05/2007 21:10

Have you seen that thread about the midwife who pulled the umbilical cord so hard she yanked the mother down the bed

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 21:11

I fry some onion and garlic in a pan, add 4 chopped sausages and brown them off. Then I put in a can of baked beans and a can of chopped tomatoes. I leave it for about 20 mins to reduce a bit and put in some some cooked and chopped potatoes and some chilli powder or curry powder and seasoning! Easiest meal ever!
