Hi All, Long time no post, but I have been lurking....Promise! Its a fast paced chatty thread which is lovely. Hi to all the newbies but I almost feel like one myself!
Finished work but self employed so will dabble without the tube to annoy me. I have started to get into the needing to prepare NOW for baby, and its all getting exciting but scary- first time and all!
Just returned from another Growth scan and bloods - my MW is getting me to have a few as the babys growth is dropping off a little and isnt following the standard growth line...its annoying me as I am little (5.2) and have low BMI, guess their being safe but I think its all a bit over the top. Anyway, another scan next Friday..
To top it all off I am having second thoughts about the homebirth- Foxy please tell me I can do it! its all nerves probably!
Hope that you are all well, its nice to have the time to sit back and enjoy the MN conversation!

BZ, I sat next to Robbie Williams in a caff once (okay, not a caff, it was Tom's in Notting Hill which is about as chi chi as they come, but still...) and he was fat and whiny - just kept moaning about stuff until I almost told him to shut up. Really not the hard man. Sorry to disapppoint you!! WIth you re. Johnny Depp, though.

What a miserable day. But am plowing through my work like the clappers and feeling far more confident about finishing everything in the next couple of weeks. Yay!!

Oh and I haven't had any BH either...

claire74 · 09/05/2007 16:30

Thanks annobal for filling me in on strep b.

Sorry to hear everyones having trouble sleeping, I also wake up at 3am every morning to go for a wee, then lay awake for about an hour afterwards- I see it as I'm in training for that night feed! shattered during the day and at the moment I'm able to rest 3 afternoons a weeks as dd is in nursery, How will I cope!!!

I don't know what sex this baby is going to be, if its a little boy , poor thing will be in pink or boring white until we can get to the shops.

Our dd whats a sister, and will not accept it may be a boy, bit worried we may have to pretend its a girl if it does happen to be a boy.

daisybump · 09/05/2007 16:31

Hi SmilingKiwi.... Good to have you back with us. Its good that you're getting looked after, but can understand your frustration. Some women just have small babies (and it often can run in families). A girl from my new mum's class when I had DS was given a c-section as they thought the baby was in danger as he was very samll. He was 39 weeks tern and only just over 5lbs, but he soon caught up and is now one of the tallest ofthe group.

Catsuitgirl...I think Robbie is a repressed homosexual and it's all gonna come out ala George Michael at some point (can I say that or is that libel/slander) and that's why he's miserable and in rehab......like his earlier stuff and used to be a big fan, but he's not that attractive really. big thumbs up to Johnny Depp though...he is more beautiful than it should be possible for a man to be...love him in Chocolat....phwoar!

Last two on the April thread have gone eerily quiet...no news from either of them, and in spite of all the talk of lost plugs...no more May babies yet. They'd better hurry them along as it can't be our turn until they've all started to pop!!

foxybrown · 09/05/2007 16:32

Welcome home SmilingKiwi! Am glad you are back with us.
You won't regret the homebirth. Honestly. But do remember you can transfer in at anytime if you get scared or nervous. And your MW goes with you and stays with you. Best bit of advice I got from here is, if you can, to go in your own car - saves the drama and scariness of an ambulance. But you shouldn't drive yourself

Have a bath in your own bath, vomit in your own toilet not a paper mache bowl, pace around your house to ease contractions, not bumping into strangers around the wards, not listen to other women screaming, shouting or just wittering on, watch TV, bounce on your ball, have gas and air.

Have your baby, have a shower, have a cup of tea in your favourite mug, use the phone without it costing £7 a minute, your community MW will come and help if you have bf problems, probably quicker than they'd get to you on a ward, you can have a live birth-thread and keep us updated, sleep in your own bed without 3 snoring women and their snuffling babies, and their partners bringing in takeaway at odd hours, no MRSA,

can't think of anymore reasons, but they'll come to me if you need some

daisybump · 09/05/2007 16:37

LOL Foxy....I'm terrified to go to the hospital now!

Been getting crampy aches again this afternoon and can't help hoping that with baby having engaged things might not be far off....but it's probably a long shot and I'm going to be still sitting here in five weeks time in the same circumstances. Anyway, in the meantime I'm bouncing on the ball!!

bumperlicious · 09/05/2007 16:43

Hi all

Just dropping in briefly as I am - what for it - going out. Again. That's twice in one week! Kinda have to really, another colleague is leaving and this is his leaving do, and I haven't organised anything for my leaving (I find it too humiliating having to organise own leaving do!) Tried to arrange a lunch or dinner with my immediate team but lost the will to live as there was no one day in 2 weeks that all 7 of us were free so got fed up trying. So kind piggybacking on tonight. Not that I am planning to stay out late, not my idea of fun to watch all my colleagues get hammered while I nurse a soda and lime!

Quick question though, just been to MW, had yukky anti-d jab and just wondering what "relation to brim" means on notes and is the fact that mine is 4/5 significant. They just bloody write these things down and don't tell you what they are writing! Is it something to do with engaging? All this time I thought I'd been waking up with baby transverse as bottom of uterus seemed "empty" but she says it is there but head is v deep down.

foxybrown · 09/05/2007 16:58

According to Miriam Stoppard
Relation of PP to brim - this is the brim of your pelvis. The presenting part (pp) of the baby to the brim in the later stages of your pregnancy will be the part in the cervix ready to be born.

That's as clear as mud, isnt it?

daisybump · 09/05/2007 16:58

hi Bumper...I thought 4/5 meant that 4/5 of the head could be felt above the pelvic brim, ie baby on way to being fully engaged. that's how Prof Regan describes it anyway.

Is Friday your last day at work then? Are you getting excited now? or still feeling wobbly?

daisybump · 09/05/2007 17:00

LOL though at the not explaining...I can't even read my MW writing...it is very small and undecipherable and have had to ask several times what things mean.

daisybump · 09/05/2007 17:04

Just caught sight of this ....Victory for Mumsnet wey hey!!!

foxybrown · 09/05/2007 17:05

I just hope it didn't cost MN loads!

foxybrown · 09/05/2007 17:05

Right tea time. Microwaved spagetti and meatballs .will do veg to attempt some nutritional value.

BadZelda · 09/05/2007 17:08

23 minutes to go and FINALLY got last meeting out of the way...hurrah!

daisybump · 09/05/2007 17:11

I get the distinct feeling that half five can'
t come quickly enough for you BZ ?

hollyandalice · 09/05/2007 17:14

Afternoon! I've just come on to catch up and now it's time for tea! Do I bother cooking tea or do I ask dp to go to the chippy on the way home, I really fancy a pineapple fritter!

I love your list of home birth pros foxy! Every time someone tells me about scary hospital or wonderful home birth it makes me all warm and tingly inside thinking that I'm going to have one! I'm actually quite excited (hmmm...maybe I'm trying not to think about how much labour hurts!).

Daisy glad you had a lovely nap. Naps are wonderful!

BZ hope your last day was good!

daisybump · 09/05/2007 17:21

Foxy...Justine posted about halfway up the thread re the legal costs and what MNers can do to help! Think we're doing all we can, basically using MN, shopping with the advertisers, taking out a CAT subscription etc, etc.

Don't think I'll be talking about her though, and she will forever be "she who must not be named"

SmilingKiwi · 09/05/2007 17:22

Ohhh Foxy you STAR!! I'm going to ask DH to enlarge, print off and laminate for my wall all the reasons we're trying for a home birth you have reminded me so clearly about!!OK...maybe laminating is a bit extreme- but you get the idea- many thanks, and your sooo right I can change my mind - the hospital is only 5 mins away which is even more lucky!! I have a great Dh for support and a Doula and had the same community MW the whole way through...and the best book Child Birth Without Fear!! See- I've convinced myself again YAY!!
May ladies have gone quiet after such a rush of babies...
Bumper- I think relation to brim is secret witch craft speak heehee take 4/5's of a frog and bubbling pot to your midwife next time I'm not clever enough to know the real reason so I'll humour you instead!
Oh thought the cravings were over...but made Dh fetch marshmallows at midnight on Monday!!Maybe it wasnt REALLY a craving as such..just a little demanding???

daisybump · 09/05/2007 17:23

holly...strangely enough, although I know its gonna hurt like hell, I'm kind of looking forward to my labour. Maybe because I'll soon be meeting this (hard earned) LO...or maybe it's just to do with the quality of the drugs available

daisybump · 09/05/2007 17:27

LOL re cravings SK.....I'm trying hard to resist my Galaxy craving. I did eat loads of jalapeno peppers over lunch and think I've got a jar somewhere in the cupboard that I'm trying to resist opening. I must say they were really rather nice in an eye-watering, mouth puckering sort of way!!

hollyandalice · 09/05/2007 17:29

I know, I'm really excited about meeting my LO!! I want to put him in ickle tiny sleepsuits and smell his feather hair and just generally cuddle him! Don't remind me about projectile vomit or projectile black then green or orange poo, sore nipps or no sleep! I'm living in a cocoon atm!

Just spoken to dp, he doesn't fancy chips! Twunt! Spose I'll have to cook now!

SmilingKiwi · 09/05/2007 17:30

DaisyB the thought of peppers has me clenching my chest in anticipation of extreme indigestion!
BZ 5.30pm the day is over!!

SmilingKiwi · 09/05/2007 17:33

H&A ohhhh what a lovley picture you paint of a new born....its a nice thing to focus on instead of blissful drugs, your trying for home birth too?

hollyandalice · 09/05/2007 17:39

Yep SK! I even have my own inflateable pool for the occasion! I'm really excited about having the baby at home. Even though my first was a hospital birth and was extremely quick and reasonably easy, there were things I didn't like about hospital, which I can control at home. My own tea (not tea flavoured milkshake), my own food, my own bed and a guaranteed pool!

sputnik · 09/05/2007 17:55

Been struggling all day to find something positive to post. I give up.
