That is adorable Nettee, bless him. I just thought I'd post to say that we finally made our minds up and booked the rip-off £50 sexing scan. So we will find out in three weeks what we're having! I'm quite excited.

Just add my 2p to the bf vs. ff thing. I bf my boys until they were 4 months and then they were fully ff. Breastfeeding didn't take any longer than bottlefeeding, but I just couldn't keep up with 2 babies any more (I hit my pre-pregnancy weight about a month after they were born because of all the calories I was burning).

The big difference for me was that my tiny babies did not get one cold or even a snuffle while I was breastfeeding but about 2 weeks after I stopped they both got terrible colds. Could be coincidence but you might want to take it into account, bf babes get less colds and nasty ear infections than ff ones.

My antenatal yoga teacher also highly recommended the Tommee tippee closer to nature bottles, particularly if you want to mix feed or express. I used the Avent ones last time and I am definitley going to try the Tommee tippee ones this time, they just look more natural somehow.

Wow canadianmum, hats off to feeders of twins! That's amazing!

MrsFish · 24/05/2007 11:36

Yep another good reason to bf, you get your figure back quicker

Rin23 · 24/05/2007 11:51

Hi girls
Just a quickie to say I finally had my scan this morning, and all was well. I was soooo relieved as I'd got a bit worked up last night (partly because DH got drunk but thats another story).

We also found out - it's a girl!

I felt a bit stunned to know the sex - it makes it feel so much more "real" (you'd think I'd know i'm having a baby by now...). Also I have a stepdaughter so was kind of hoping for a boy so that it would be a different experience for DH and everyone in the family. But, I am so pleased that everything looks healthy, and am getting used to the idea of a girl! Now need to think of names, as the ones we had were all boys...

I'm off later today for a weeks hols so good luck to Kinki and Laksa for your scans tomorrow, and hope everyone has a good week.
xx

FioFio - I get a stitch when I walk any distance - I seem to remember hip pain from last time round a bit later on - oh the joys of pregnancy....

congratulations on your girl Rin - very exciting

will be looking out for Rubarbs news in a fortnight

I bf DS and he didn't get a cold until I introduced solids. Mind you my cousin bf for a shorter time and then went onto formula and her dd didn't get a cold for ages and has only 2 in her whole first year. whereas my ds had continuous colds even though he was still getting breast milk until he was about 16 months old. My bf tip is to go to the hospitals antenatal bf workshop and read as much as you can about it. Do what works for you having got all the advice going. Believe in yourself that you do have enough milk to feed the baby and accept that you will be feeding for a lot of the time at least to start off with. I don't know how that works with a toddler but will be finding out......

Hopeitwontbebig · 24/05/2007 14:51

FioFio - where abouts on your hip does it hurt, front or back? Sorry you're suffering

Congrats Rin23 on your scan results, another girl Yay!!! Have a lovely holiday, where are you going?

I've copied this website onto my toolbar, it's 101 reasons to BF, I think I'm going to write down a few of the reasons that jump out at me and use them almost as a mantra for the early weeks to keep me going. I so so so so so want to do it this time. I think with the support network we have on mumsnet it's do-able.

I managed to drag my dodgy pelvis to the shops this morning, needed to buy a few bits for France next week. Anyway, thought I'd share this dress I bought with you. It was featured in Pregnancy and Birth magazine. Only £15!!!! It isn't maternity, so I bought a couple of sizes up. I bought one in black aswell!

OP posts:
Hopeitwontbebig · 24/05/2007 14:52

Nettee - I am also getting quite painful stitch right underneath my bump all the way across if I walk too fast or too far, its not good, makes taking ds for a walk difficult.

rhubarb90 · 24/05/2007 15:06

Congratulations Rin23 on your fab news! Good luck to everyone else on their scans too

Rin23 · 24/05/2007 15:14

Cool dress HIWBB. Sadly my bosoms are too large for anything too fitted around that area. Hoping to bf then they might go down... is this likely/ realistic??

Going to France too - weather predicted is rain all week, but I'm convinced that this is not possible - it's the south for crissakes. But I am staying with my folks, so just realised prob will be able to log on once in a while whilst there!

Thanks for congrats guys!

seamonster · 24/05/2007 16:48

Everyone's at the park with grandma at the mo so I thought I'd see what everyone's up to. Yes I get hip pain, and lower back pain and also muscle cramps in my belly at times. My big boobs have got progressively bigger with each pregnancy but I'm probably not normal. And paying for a sexing scan? Blimey. I found out with all mine for free at the 20 week scan. (another boy this time btw) I am also v big, although at scan baby measured 10 days smaller than due date.

Nettee - I had stitch like in my first pregnancy. I think they said it was pain from stretching ligaments. If you're worried get it checked out though. I remember it being very uncomfortable so I hope it passes soon.

I saw the consultant yesterday and the best guess explanation for my pain seems to be that it's from a muscle I tore in my stomach a few weeks ago. Apparently it's being aggravated by carrying DD etc and will take longer to heal because of the pregnancy. Good news is that the baby is ok and is measuring 25 weeks at 24 and a half so not too big. I got to listen to the heartbeat which was lovely.

I'm so jealous of those of you off on holiday. Have fun.

EdieMcredie · 24/05/2007 22:05

So glad about the Feb thread!!

Hope evryone is ok, thanks for the kind words about DP losing his job. He has a new one now though so that's a relief. He is going to work for a construction firm.

Baby has been giving me lots of really big kicks lately. I find it very entertaining watching my tummy move!

Back to work tomorrow

I have been getting stitch when I walk too espeically if I'm in a rush. I think it is probably due to my stomach growing now at an alarming rate.

I am so glad that some of you bottle fed. I know this sounds ridiculous but I have a phobia of breastfeeding and am petrified of it. It doesn't seem natural at all to me and it really upsets me when everyone just says to me oh it'll be natural when you have the baby. I just can't see this happening as I am so scared of it. I have been so embarrassed of my massive boobs all my life so I think this has something to do with it. My worst fear is a midwife coming round in the hospital and grabbing my boob!.

On a brighter note we are going to buy the pram today as it has an 8 week delivery on it. I am very excited and so was up bright and early!.

kinki · 25/05/2007 08:37

Did any of you see the link that someone did for the competition to win a new fiat car if your baby is born on september 15th? I can't find the thread they started but here's the link to the fiat website if anyone is interested in entering.

You have to register with the fiat website before you can enter. It's pretty much a global competition, so far about 1900 people have entered, but not all of them will give birth on sept 15th. Its better odds than the lottery! They are doing this to coincide with the release of a new car.

Just thought I'd mention it if anyone fancies having a go. It's no good for me, I'm booked in for a section the day before.

About to get ready for my scan now. Finally the day has come! Good luck to you Laksa for yours.

Might ask, could do with a new car. Do you think he would come in on a Saturday just for lil ole me?

Pennypops · 25/05/2007 08:59

Hi everyone,

Had another spotting related impromptu visit to hospital yesterday so just having a catch up. All is well with the munchkin. You know I'm not sure which bit I look forward to most - being stabbed with needles for blood tests & AntiD or having a succession of strangers peering up my lady bits.

Those of you getting stitches - I think this is fairly normal. I tend to get them now when I walk for more than about 10 minutes. These lo's are getting pretty hefty - they're bound to be stretching ligaments and stuff.

Rin - congrats on your scan. I'm sure you're very relieved to know all is well at last! Good luck to Kinki and Laksa for today!Yet more girls do we think???

HIWBB - Loving the dress. Very cute. Glad you are feeling better re certain issues and hope that the holiday helps your bones to have a rest!

Fio - hope your hip isn't giving you too much grief.

Well, I'm off to the in laws at lunchtime until Sunday. Sort of not massively looking forward to it but given that I already know my MIL's opinion on every single aspect of pregnancy and child rearing I can't see what else she can say to wind me up!

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend everyone! xx
