This is my 2nd dc. We weren’t trying so unexpected but I’ve had a feeling something was going on for the last week. Tested this morning and got a BFP.

So it’s DC2 (already have a 4 year old DS)
Due date 5/11/18 I think

My feb 2014 group is fab and I’ve made some lovely friends on there so hoping to do the same this time all being well!

@Teaisnecessary thank you 😊 yeah I have just used ICs at the minute because I didn't have anything else in - I really wasn't expecting it to happen this month as I was diagnosed with PCOS in January and only changed my diet and started different supplements everything in early Feb. It must have been enough though!

I am distracting myself with work at the minute, that's my usual trick!! 😂

Thank you all for sharing your experiences, I'm hoping that this time things go a lot more smoothly when it comes to it! One of my friends went through quite a traumatic birth with her first and then she said at a different hospital the second was completely different and so much less stressful. Fingers crossed for everyone!

sarahhh1984 · 12/03/2018 15:12

@Teaisnecessary Thank you. Consultant mw said any one of those things is quite normal(ish) but to have all of them happen in one labour is pretty unlucky. So hopefully things will be easier this time. I have been told if I needed to have my placenta manually removed once there is a chance it's likely to happen again, but this time I'll be prepared for it at least. Fingers crossed consultant mw will be able to give me some good options.

@Magpie24 Yes, it's due to the spotting. They wouldn't do the scan before six weeks here because it would be unlikely to show anything (don't think they can pick up a heartbeat before then), so yours sounds normal for five or so weeks - really pleased for you! I'll be about 6+1 on Thursday so hopefully will all be fine.

sarahhh1984 · 12/03/2018 15:43

@Magpie24 Meant to add, if you're still concerned about spotting once you get to six week, I'd call your EPU and ask them to check you again. Best to get the reassurance to relieve any stress you might be feeling. Hope the spotting stops soon. Mine took a few days to clear up and then I had the odd reoccurrence. Although it seems to have stopped now.

Magpie24 · 12/03/2018 15:46

Thanks @sarahhh1984 they've already scheduled me in for another one on 3rd April. Quite impressed with my local hospital so far!

sarahhh1984 · 12/03/2018 15:49

@Magpie24 Ooh, that's nice and efficient! Will keep fingers crossed for you. Glad your hospital has taken it seriously.

Magpie24 · 12/03/2018 15:49

@sarahhh1984 best of luck to you too, let us know how the early scan goes

toasterstrudle · 12/03/2018 16:13

@BadBadBeans @sarahhh1984 @Teaisnecessary I had emcs too and am wondering about VBAC vs elective section. I feel a bit "better the devil you know" and am preferring elective section at the moment but would like a bit more info re VBAC so will ask my Midwife. Are you all thinking section?

Teaisnecessary · 12/03/2018 16:15

@Foreverretro, throwing yourself into work sounds way more productive than Netflix! Grin I was recently diagnosed with PCOS too, though I’ve suspected it for a few years since I came off the pill. I’m lucky in that my cycles were shorter & less crazy after I had DS1,making TTC much easier. I’ve tried making some dietary changes too to clear up my skin though!

@Whiningandwining
I was worried about that too. My hospital tend to promote VBAC & whilst that was their recommendation, it was always presented as my choice & I didn’t feel pressured - I hope you find similar. I think I only had 3 appointments with the Consultant because I was struggling to decide - It would probably have been one short appointment at 26 weeks if I’d been sure I wanted an elective.

Best of luck to everyone having early scans.

sarahhh1984 · 12/03/2018 16:37

@toasterstrudle At the moment I'm thinking vaginal delivery if I can (I had forceps with DD rather than emc) but I think if my anxiety starts to play up I may go for an elective c. Only thing stopping me at mo is I'm not sure about looking after a newborn and a 19-month old once DH is back in work and I'm still recovering! So if vaginal delivery is possible and consultant mw can help me put together a good birth plan I'll probably go for it. Perhaps I can get the peaceful water birth with no intervention I wanted last time! 😂

Teaisnecessary · 12/03/2018 16:43

@toasterstrudle
I was told after my 2nd section that they would recommend a section for any future pregnancies so I’ll be going with that. For DS2 though I tried to hedge my bets by booking a relatively late elective section in my 39th week, but secretly hoping he would decide to come early & that I’d have a VBAC! It’s a tricky decision though & I went back and forth a few times over the months!

Pinkvoid · 12/03/2018 16:50

I’m 6+2, due on November 2nd. I have 3DC but also had two MMC last year at 11 and 12 weeks, the second MC had zero symptoms I’d miscarried at all and had seen the heartbeat on two scans so I’m understandably absolutely terrified right now. I had minor light pink spotting on the TP last week but nothing since. I’m trying not to get worked up since I know I can’t change the outcome but just hoping all will be ok this time Sad.

BadBadBeans · 12/03/2018 17:31

Just gave myself a very mild electric shock with a hand blender. Shit shit shit. Trying not to freak out. Anyone with any experience of this in early pregnancy?

MochiBean · 12/03/2018 17:44

@BadBadBeans I'm still learning to trust my body, but I doubt a mild electric shock would cause any real damage! Little bean is so wrapped away inside you it's unlikely to even travel that far... especially if you are fine!

Speaking of trusting my body... my GP has just given me a weeks worth of antibiotics because baby + tilted uterus means I now have a UTI... thanks baby bean 🧐

BadBadBeans · 12/03/2018 18:26

@MochiBean thank you. I am trying to rationalise that my tiny little 4.5 week embryo doesn't even have a heartbeat yet and therefore this is probably the safest point in pregnancy to get an electric shock. I have no medical basis for this but just trying to think rationally! DH has been very lackadaisical about it, saying 'C'est la vie' and 'This is why you shouldn't get excited too soon'... which obviously just upset me more!

Oh you poor thing. Hope the antibiotics work pronto xx

Potkettleblack2 · 12/03/2018 18:39

I had an electric shock that threw me across a room at about 12 weeks with DC1. I got such a fright so I completely understand. I went to the GP who said that as I had no burns and my heart rate was fine that it didn't harm my body much, and wouldn't have had any impact on the baby. I hope that's reassuring x

olderthanyouthink · 12/03/2018 18:41

Hi all, congrats on your BFPs. I tested positive on Thursday (happy women's day!).

I'm 22 and 4w+0 accidentally pregnant (I don't mean to upset anyone who had a hard time getting here) but I really didn't want this to happen now, but now it's happening I'm scared something going to go wrong 😕. Only been with my BF for about 2 months and we had 2 condom mishaps which I took MAP for but it looks like nature had other ideas.

BF and I are terrified and excited, not sure which is the dominant feeling, I got a poppy seed out this morning to show him the size of the embryo/baby and he got all emotional and set me off 😭 - I think that made it a bit more real for him. I've had a dull tummy and back ache but that just feels like my period is about to start so I'm still a bit unconvinced despite taking four tests so far. I'm seriously needle phobic so this pregnancy is going a huge ordeal for me.

Looks like I'm the youngest so far and I look even younger 🙄

@MochiBean I'm very near you in Peckham!

tinybump18 · 12/03/2018 19:41

@olderthanyouthink congratulations! I'm near croydon so not far from you!

BadBadBeans · 12/03/2018 19:43

@Potkettleblack2 you poor thing; that must have been terrifying. So glad you were both okay and thank you, yes, that is very reassuring. Feeling a bit calmer now. Can't do anything but wait and see when I'm this early anyway!

@olderthanyouthink I'm needle phobic too and faint at the thought of blood, let alone the sight of it! With my first pregnancy I just asked for all my bloods to be taken with me lying down, and recited poetry while they did it to take my mind off it. Sounds mad but it worked! I ended up with an emergency C-section, the thought of which had terrified me (blood! big needles!) but actually was a genuinely lovely experience. So don't be scared - if I can do it, ANYONE can!!!!

olderthanyouthink · 12/03/2018 19:58

@tinybump18 hey, I thought there was someone else nearby but couldn't remember who.

@BadBadBeans I had an allergy skin prick test a few months ago and ended up with 3 doctors and 2 nurses hovering over me. I didn't pass out just freaked out and came over all funny. I can get emla cream from my GP and I think ask for finer needles... and hopefully have bf to pin me down.

BadBadBeans · 12/03/2018 20:02

Sorry, replying to people properly now that I've calmed down a bit after the electric shock!

@Teaisnecessary thank you so much for sharing all that! The compromise you mention is exactly what I was thinking of as a possibility... I certainly would want to avoid another emergency section. I'm glad your semi-elective was lovely! I too get a bit envious of other people's lovely natural births at times, but at the end of the day I have recovered really well from the section and ultimately it was a good experience for me.

@Saraswati yes I've fallen pregnant on my first cycle both times too so I don't know how it feels to wait. Must be so difficult. I think there are definite advantages to pill mishaps!!! Oh wow - your birth experience is exactly what I'd hoped for first time round! So lovely to hear about people who that kind of thing happens to. Home birth sounds great if it's likely to all be very straightforward. Would you hire a pool do you think?

@Happ7Bunny good luck with the next test!

@whiningandwining Sorry to hear you had a traumatic experience. I would hope that we won't get pushed for VBAC if we don't want it. If your consultants advised you to have an elective next time then I'm sure that should be in your medical records.

@Magpie24 glad that the scan was a good sign! It's so hard when you're this early in the pregnancy.

@toasterstrudle yep I'm definitely thinking section. And it's also better the devil you know territory for me - I like the idea of knowing what to expect in terms of after care and after effects. I am naturally a very anxious person and I would feel a lot more in control with a situation that I've already gone through once before.

SkyLucy · 12/03/2018 20:05

Quick Q... anyone got any fabulous excuses for not drinking?? I've got an NCT group night out on Friday that we've all been excited about for ages. It's walking distance so I can't use the old driving excuse...I always think 'on antibiotics' is basically a synonym for 'pregnant' but I haven't any other ideas...help!

sarahhh1984 · 12/03/2018 20:09

@whiningandwining One of my friends had an emergency c with her first baby. When she was pregnant with her second she looked into VBAC and had a consultation about it but ultimately decided she'd had such a bad experience the first time, she would prefer an elective. Midwives/consultants were all fine with her and didn't push her to VBAC. Hopefully this will be the same for you.

sarahhh1984 · 12/03/2018 20:12

@SkyLucy I have an evening out with some friends planned soon and am in the same boat as I don't drive so can't use that as an excuse. Was thinking of saying DH isn't too well so I need to be sober when I get home to look after DD if she wakes in the night. Also gives me an excuse to leave a bit early if the fatigue really hits home. 😂

XSunnyX · 12/03/2018 20:12

Hello ladies, congratulations all! I'm pleased to find this group. It's my first pregnancy and found out yesterday I'm not sure it feels real yet! I'm only very early I think 4 weeks...
@Skylucy Mmm yes all I can think of is antibiotics perhaps for a water infection as drinking alcohol makes it worse. We will need to get good at these white lies for now hehe

BadBadBeans · 12/03/2018 20:13

@SkyLucy I live with my in-laws and am going to struggle to get round the not drinking thing too! I was thinking that my excuse will either be that I'm going to the gym this evening, or I'm going to the gym tomorrow and I find it harder if I've been drinking. I see a lot of going to the gym in my immediate future!
