Thought I'd start up a new thread as the old one has run out of space.

Thanks @BertieBotts I keep reading about them but not researched yet.x

Emmasmum2013 · 14/03/2018 18:34

That BRAIN acronym is a really good one!!
I think people assume also that you’re going to be totally out of it in labour and somehow incredibly vulnerable to persuasion. But you do still keep your wits about you so don’t worry about being persuaded into something you don’t want for no good reason.

If they’d said “we need to to X immediately. Otherwise baby or you will be in danger” there would have been no argument from me at all. Just needed to weigh up the pros and cons for a bit in my own head and tell them what I wanted.

somersetsinger · 14/03/2018 21:47

I came across BRAN first time round. DH intended to use it for decision making in labour.

In the event, the midwife was very non-interventionist and we didn't have to argue a case. I wonder if having the baby in a midwife unit meant we came into contact with midwives who were used to low risk births and happy to let things progress. I will be totally unprepared if I have to go to hospital this time!

I also had both maternity pads and Tena lady maxi flow pads ready for after birth. I leaked through everything (TMI, sorry), but the maternity pads were the more comfortable after the first day or two.

We've started talking about names and have found a few possibles. I had two great boy ones so am annoyed not to be able to use them. Maybe I'll save them up for future cats!

somersetsinger · 14/03/2018 21:49

Oh, I've just read that through. DH and I were going to use BRAN. There's no way he was making decisions for me!

BertieBotts · 14/03/2018 22:02

TBH I don't think maternity pads take much research, they all seemed exactly the same to me. I had a couple of brands, can't remember now. Obviously you can't take them out of the pack in the shop to compare anyway.

bobcat85 · 15/03/2018 07:16

I bought the Tesco ones to start with but they were really rubbish. The Boots ones were much better as they were a bit thicker.

Does anyone else feel a bit 'waddly' already?

I'm only 17 weeks now and I'm starting to struggle to get tights and socks on because bending down is getting difficult.

My bump seems to have popped out in the last few days and its already starting to get in the way :(

BertieBotts · 15/03/2018 12:11

Yep, walking and getting up from sitting or lying are all more difficult. I find I can't run for the bus.

Gem173 · 15/03/2018 14:14

I’m the same have had horrific leg cramp and have been waddling not walking even before this pain :( I walk slower now too again because of the heaviness.. ahh well gender scan in 2 days, staying positive ✨😍

Poppyandpeaches · 15/03/2018 14:17

I have to say that second time around my birth plan is still just “see what happens” and “trust the experts”. I know there’s a lot of stuff out there telling mums that their instincts are better than a doctor’s etc, and i’m sure there are cases where that’s true. But personally one or both of us would have died if I hadn’t done exactly as I was told. And my birth was far from ideal, but we both came out of it completely unscathed. I’m consultant led again this time and feel i’m in safe hands. I think sometimes people put too much pressure on themselves to decide what their birth will be like, etc, when a lot of it is just out of your control. And I would rather it was the trained medical experts making the decisions rather than being down to me!

Emmasmum2013 · 15/03/2018 18:21

I found I only used to maternity pads for a few days anyway and then switched to normal Always pads.

StrawberryLemonade · 16/03/2018 07:14

Agree maternity pads are mainly much the same - I used Asda’s little angels ones and they were fine. Need huge knickers as well. I wore maternity pads for whole time I bled pretty much as I was so sore down below from episiotomy stitches and the maternity pads were more comfortable. Much less chafing etc than normal sanitary towels.

I feel I’m waddling somewhat too!

19+3. 5 days until my 20 week scan and I’m so nervous.

YouCantBeSirius · 16/03/2018 12:44

I had my 20 week scan this morning. The sonographer couldn't get a couple of measurements so I've to go back in 10 days but everything else was looking good. Definitely a girl I'm having Smile

SpriteGirl · 16/03/2018 12:49

Mine 20 week scan is on Tuesday and I'm nervous too because of coming up an increased risk of Downs Syndrome at my first scan when in fact everything was fine.

Just want the whole thing to be over and hopefully everything to be ok.

milney25 · 16/03/2018 13:48

I'm just waiting to go in for my 20 week scan and I'm incredibly nervous!

Stephiewoo · 16/03/2018 14:48

I have to wait until 11th April for my 20 week scan 🙄😔 I really want to find out what we're having. Little one is so excited too.

Gem173 · 16/03/2018 16:43

@stephiewoo same day as me!! For my 20 week scan!! OMG I’m so nervous for tomorrow been waiting so long

peterpanwendy · 16/03/2018 17:01

My 20 week is on the 10th so still ages away!
Booked a gender scan though and that's this Wednesday I can't wait!
@Gem173 I wanted to find out tomorrow but they were fully booked! I'm so jealous I bet you're so excited!

Gem173 · 16/03/2018 17:43

@peterpanwendy I am so excited but so nervous!

BertieBotts · 16/03/2018 17:49

Mine is on the 10th! And 20 week appointment on 11th :)

TheSleeperandTheSpindle · 16/03/2018 19:15

My 20 week scan is 12th April - seems such a long time to wait!

DH wants to find out the sex this time (DS was a surprise) but I’m so worried about regretting it because I won’t be able to un-find-out IYKWIM. Think I still want a surprise, it’s what got me through the last bit of pushing when having DS Grin

Emmasmum2013 · 17/03/2018 06:56

My 20 week scan is on the 6th April. It’s so far away! But we’re off to Disneyland Paris on Tuesday so at least that breaks things up a bit.

Good luck today Gem! And isn’t it your birthday today? Happy birthday!! 🎂

I’ve got to go to a fancy dressed up night out tonight and I have nothing to wear 😔

Have to hit the sales later.

Stephiewoo · 17/03/2018 08:10

Yay @Gem173 scan twins, hope today goes well too.
My next appointment isn't until 24 weeks and that's on 10th May. Everything takes so long!

Gem173 · 17/03/2018 09:35

Thanks ladies and yeah it’s my birthday! Wooooo lol xx

peterpanwendy · 17/03/2018 09:44

@Gem173 happy birthday! And good luck today I'm excited for you! X
