Clementine I've done it into function type categories, which I found the best way to work out what we'd need for each function, and then picked what we want from those and put priorities on them. Obviously different people's priorities will differ, but these are mine/ours.
1 - essential
2 - useful
3 - want this enough to spend on it
4 - nice to have (I probably won't pay loads for this but might pick up if cheap/second hand)
5 - meh (in other words, other people talk about this but I'm really not convinced)
I just sorted them just now by category and priority, so in the list here I've just noted when the priority changes.

Err... I'm aware all of this looks super organised but it's really been a massive procrastination activity!
BUT it's given me starting points and what I've done is estimated prices for each thing - the absolute cheapest I would buy and then the price for the one I really want and then I can get the spreadsheet to magically add it all up and estimate, plus as we get things, find them secondhand or are given them I can tick them off and/or reduce the estimated costs which really helps to see the total go down. I've got to go and look through the clothes we've got already and check which ones are newborn/0-3 as that's all I'm counting for these purposes. I fully expect to get more clothes, BTW! I just wanted to see for budgeting purposes what was my absolute minimum.
