Hi everyone, we found out on 18th feb that we are expecting baby no 3, already have two girls 9 and 5 and wasn't planning anymore, so was a bit of a shock. Had some bleeding couple days after so gp sent for an early scan which I had on Thursday and was told I was 5wks6days (was expecting around 7/8 from date of last period) Saw tiny little flickering HB 😊. Still so anxious after having mc couple yrs ago at 8wks.

Hey, there is now a Nov 18 group so we are no longer the newbies!!

Has anyone already had their booking in appointment - how did it go and what info did you get asked for?

Hayleyxmx · 26/02/2018 22:51

Hi everyone I thought I would jump on the October bus I’m due 10th October with my first went for a scan on Saturday everything was looking good for jelly bean fhr 160 bpm apparently that’s good, everything is new and confusing right now 🙂

ladydolly · 27/02/2018 03:48

Hi heather, I had my booking in pretty early at 4+4 (it was either that or 10 weeks!). It's a lot of paperwork to be honest. Your medical history, DP'/DH's medical history. Blood pressure. Weight. A few questions about home set up. A very quick run through of what appointments you'll have ahead and some basic do's and don'ts now you're pregnant. Some do bloods as well although at my docs you have to do that separately. Mine was very rushed this time, she was running late and this isn't my first time. If you have questions it might be worth scribbling them down before you go, just in case you are a bit overwhelmed! I didn't take DP to any of these, I'm pretty practical and it hasn't been worth him missing work for.

ladydolly · 27/02/2018 03:51

And yes, 4am post. Pregnancy insomnia is THE WORST.

Unicornchaser · 27/02/2018 07:34

Eeeee, got my 3+ this morning! Reassuring me lots! My first antenatal isn't until 9 & half weeks so it's going to be a long 4 weeks till then!

I've been getting a lot of period like cramps for the last 4 days or so, you know the ones that hit you the day you actually come on..... anyone else get this?

justtowarm · 27/02/2018 09:40

@ladydolly the insomnia is a killer, and when I got to sleep last night I had this awful dream that my partner (who is the most gentle person you could imagine) was a very violent and abusive person and I just kept going back to him, despite a colleague (who in the dream was some sort of support worker or something) trying to get me to leave.

What's weird is I remember I had this dream a couple of times when I was pregnant with my son. I've never had it any other time so I guess it's to do with pregnancy but it's horrible makes me wake up feeling grim.

BarryTheKestrel · 27/02/2018 10:41

I have missed this post for some reason.

Got my BFP on 2nd Feb.

EDD: 12th October.
Age: 28
Baby #2

I have my booking appointment on Monday. I'm 12 weeks on Good Friday so get the feeling my scan date is going to be frustrating due to all the bank holidays etc.

Really struggling with nausea at the moment. Feeling constantly sick and running around after a toddler is not at all fun. I'm looking forward to going into work tomorrow so I can sit and feel awful in peace.

I also don't know how or when to tell DD. She's almost 3 and has been asking for a sibling for a while, but she's also really anxious so I don't want her to worry any more than necessary about it all. I'm thinking of trying to wait until 20 weeks but I'm already feeling bloaty and had a bump quite early when I was pregnant with her. I don't want anyone else figuring it out and telling her. If I can't wait I'll maybe try and get a private scan at 16 weeks and then I can tell her and hopefully tell her if she's having a brother or sister as well.

Anyone have any advice on telling toddlers you're pregnant?

SLR1906 · 27/02/2018 13:21

Thank goodness for this thread! I dont often post but reading all your comments is helping me get through. Im now into week 8 of my pregnancy and the 3rd of sickness. Im exhausted and forcing myself to eat at meal times for the little bean. Its affecting my moods and i have an overiding feeling of guilt at not being able to cook clean etc... i am sat in work half dead most days!!

Thank you to everyone who shares their story, its the light at the end of the tunnel for the lurkers like me!!

Penny31 · 27/02/2018 16:12

Thank goodness it’s not just me. I feel dreadful. I want to just curl up in bed. But I have a Dd so can’t do that until at least 8pm! Got to try and keep going

2ndPGchimp · 27/02/2018 16:24

@BarryTheKestrel I have been having the same thought about when to tell my DS who is 3.8. He is quite into babies and we have lots of friends who have had them recently so he is aware of the concept of pregnancy, but will definitely leave until after 12 weeks at the earliest. I already feel huge so won't be able to hide it much past then (and wouldn't want to feel like I was hiding it from him).

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 27/02/2018 18:46

So I have my booking appt on Thursday and then an early scan a week after at which point I will be 7+2. Arghhhh - nervous.

Yes to the insomnia. My body won't let me sleep past 5am despite being exhausted. Such weird vivid dreams every night too.

twobambinos · 27/02/2018 20:07

My kids are a bit older and so I could do without all their school friends and parents asking me anything for a good while so I will be leaving it as late as possible to tell them. I didn't start showing until about 24 weeks the last time and longer on the first. I'm hoping all the pilates since dd2 will help to keep the bump in for a while too. Have a bit of weight on anyway so a bit podgy in the belly area so that probably conceals it a bit too or maybe wishful thinking. Actually managed to eat today and keep it down I'm so relieved was getting a bit weak.

Goodluck with the scan @biscay that will be lovely.

Laney79 · 27/02/2018 20:17

@BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy the insomnia thing is weird! I never have trouble sleeping (so much so it's been a running joke with my other half) but now I'm pregnant I'm waking up for the loo in the night and then I stir around 4.30/5am and can't get back to sleep. I'm shattered! No probs getting to sleep at night-it's just staying that way I have the prob with!

lucindaanna · 27/02/2018 21:15

@Laney79 this is good to know - lol I am currently going to bed as early as possible 8-9pm(!) and waking up at 5 ish. Pretty tired at work. I tried going to bed later thinking maybe that was the problem and making me wake up early, but I am just exhausted in the evenings and it didn't make me sleep any later...

CaptainWentworth · 27/02/2018 22:45

I’m also getting the early wake ups like PPs- my alarm goes off at 6.25 and I keep waking up at 5-5.30. So annoying! My colleague who went off on maternity recently was saying her theory was it was to prepare you for what’s to come! She’s on number three so it can’t be tooo awful Grin. Shes also younger than me which is a bit depressing! (I’m 34 yet to have no 1)

I’ve decided to wait it out for the booking in appointment- DH reminded me last night it doesn’t actually make any different if the 12 week scan isn’t on time as it’s mainly for dating. And no reason it won’t be on time anyway. He also told me about patients he’d heard of giving birth in A&E with no idea they were pregnant, and the babies were fine, obvs with no antenatal care at all- so really there’s no need to worry. I may give the midwife a call if I crack...

FrauNeuer · 28/02/2018 00:55

Hey ladies, just checking in again. Hope everyone is coping with the snow.

Well this thread is already proving to be a valuable resource because I’ve always struggled off and on with insomnia and have been really under its spell over the last few weeks, but now I learn that it’s a pregnancy thing! That makes so much sense with all the hormones racing around, but I thought it was just my body clock misbehaving! Blush

So we saw our little one again on Monday, measuring 8w4d with a huge head, tiny arms and legs and a lovely strong heartbeat. It was all pretty emotional as it was our last appointment at the ivf clinic. It’s been a very long road to get to this stage, but so worth it. Smile

And booking appointment tomorrow afternoon! Does it really take an hour?! I’ve been trying to think of questions to ask but I haven’t thought of anything yet. Confused

Ceebs85 · 28/02/2018 10:01

Hi. Just found out I'm pregnant with baby no2 and I've got a 6month old. Absolutely shitting it.

Due date according to my calculations is 24th October. Wahhh!

ladydolly · 28/02/2018 12:57

Congrats ceebs!

Re: insomnia, mine passed after the first trimester with my first baby so fingers crossed for us all. Also it's often because I need to eat so now I only wait 10 mins if I can't drop off I go and have a bowl of cereal then back to bed.

tappitytaptap · 28/02/2018 14:09

@FrauNeuer oh thats lovely congratulations! I seem to recall it taking about an hour with DS. He was ill after birth and its something that could recur so I am half expecting it to be even longer this time whilst they take all the history etc! Early (private) scan next Monday when by my reckoning I'll be 8+1, then booking in with midwife a week today. After those two things it will seem more real I think! I keep forgetting I'm pregnant as distracted by DS 😁.

betsy2018 · 28/02/2018 15:43

Afternoon all, I also have my booking in appointment this week Friday and also struggling to think of any questions @FrauNeuer!! I'm sure as soon as I walk out I will think of lots!

Feeling quite anxious about it and no idea why, already had an early scan and all was well, they dated me approx a week earlier than I expected (don't know when I ovulated so they probability are correct) I was going from LMP. I'm unsure if I should tell the midwife this or stick to my dates until dates confirmed at the '12' weeks scan, I think I will be disappointed if I have to wait another week for my appointment but then feel cheeky knowing I may get my scan turn out to be 11 weeks (which I sort of suspect) and then get another scan. Will they even do that? Any advice from anyone? Sorry for rambling on Confused

justtowarm · 28/02/2018 15:58

@betsy2018 i have my booking appointment on Friday as well, I have questions to ask but mainly about complications in my last pregnancy and birth (high blood pressure and lost over 2 litres of blood) I think when I was pregnant with my son I just asked about anti natal classes and what appointments I should expect when at the booking appointment. It was more them taking any family history and working out dates for things.

With the scan, part of me thinks tell them as they are over stretched don't want to waste resources/appointments but I totally getting that the waiting is hard.

betsy2018 · 28/02/2018 16:23

@justtowarm thanks for the questions advice, and the scan, you have hit the nail on the head that was my thoughts exactly I wouldn't want to waste heir time, I'm certainly not someone that would go to the doctor unless absolutely necessary so why would i change now..... I'm blaming hormones Hmm

I'm just going to be honest with them and see what they suggest. My friend said they will always go with LMP regardless of a potential ovulation date but they may think different if I have had it already confirmed elsewhere and as previously said I don't want to waste time and resources
