PassTheAfterEights I am so sorry for your loss. Like Paranormalbouquet said, nothing you did or could have done would have prevented this. It’s absolutely awful and I really hope you’re going easy on yourself with lots of TLC because this is absolutely not your fault.

Fia256 · 23/01/2018 12:43

@PassTheAfterEights I'm so sorry Thanks

Fia256 · 23/01/2018 12:45

Just had my midwife appt! Looking like I'll be under the hypertension team as my blood pressure the first time she took it was 146/107!! She took it again manually which was better but still high. She'd said they won't prescribe aspirin until after 12 weeks though!

CuppaSarah · 23/01/2018 12:49

PassTheAfterEighte I went through similar in October, it's awful isn't it? I'm so sorry you have to go through this. If it's any positive, I was much more fertile afterwards and was able to conceive very quickly and easily afterwards. The bleeding was heavier and a bit more sore than a normal period.

blondie1001 · 23/01/2018 12:58

PassTheAfterEights I had a similar experience to CuppaSarah in October and got pregnant really quickly afterwards (which really helped). Talking to people helped too - although I wouldn't wish it on anyone in the world, it helped to know how common it is. Sending lots of love xxx

LostMyBaubles · 23/01/2018 12:59

CuppaSarah · 23/01/2018 13:04

blondie we were both on the June group weren't we? I thought I recognised your name but wasn't sure.

Scout2018 · 23/01/2018 13:05

I've been reading all your stories and news - both good and bad. I'm so sorry for all those who have had losses. Nature can be so cruel.

I went to the GP yesterday for my first appointment. She was fairly useless to be honest. However I asked her about the pain I've been having and the spotting last weekend. She referred me to EPU for an early scan. I've just got back from the appointment today - one healthy baby with strong heartbeat, measuring at 8w exactly. I feel I can relax now for a while. EDD now 4th Sept.

Sals27 · 23/01/2018 13:13

Im so so sorry @passtheaftereights for your loss

Anyone else have mouth ulsers? I've woken up this morning and half my mouth is covered in ulsers apparently hormomes are to blame Sad

CuppaSarah · 23/01/2018 13:13

Congrats Scout that's fab to hear!! must be a big weight of your mind.

I've given up waiting for the midwife to contact me. I found a midwife clinic is a local childrens centre with a contact number. Gave them a ring and asked about the fact I hadn't heard anything yet. I was meant to hear back over a week ago, so think the gp might have forgotten the referral. The lovely receptionist has passed my details to the midwife and I'll get a call today. YAY

Fia glad they're ensuring you're under the hypertension team. Fingers crssed it doesn't sneak up. My gp said 12 weeks for me too, despite my consultant on discharge after having ds said 8 weeks. Do you think you'll end up on labitalol or whatever it's called?

blondie1001 · 23/01/2018 13:19

@CuppaSarah I remember you from the June group Smile. You left just before I did. Glad we both made it into another group so quickly!

loveulotslikejellytots · 23/01/2018 13:22

Fia - without wanting to sound rude Grin but did the midwife use a big enough cuff. I'm overweight and kept getting high readings. The midwife used a bigger cuff, which gave normal readings. All the other ones I'd had were with a wrist monitor so I definitely didn't have high bp. Just something worth mentioning!

Secondsop · 23/01/2018 13:41

@Fia256 I am also referred to the hypertension team and if it’s the same one that I had last time they were fantastic - far better than having my bp monitored in loads of separate contexts. I’m on labetalol and methyldopa and my first GP reading at 6 weeks was high so she rang the obstetrics team who said to double my methyldopa, and to start baby aspirin so I’m on that now too. It’s good that they tried it manually - it’s much better for readings towards the higher end as the manual ones can be artificially high in those circumstances. Hope they get it under control soon.

@loveulotslikejellytots ive now bought a large cuff and will bring it to all my appointments!

Fia256 · 23/01/2018 13:56

Is the cuff the bit that your arm goes in? If it is, it's definitely not that, I'm a size 8/10 with skinny arms lol! I've always had this problem though. DS I had problems after labour, DD from around 28 weeks pregnant but never turned to pre eclampsia. They've always passed it off as white coat syndrome even though I'm not anxious in the slightest about appointments! But with having a later loss last year, and it being high at the first appt today, this midwife I saw today seems to be a bit more switched on and would rather it be monitored better!

MonaTheMoaner · 23/01/2018 15:10

Booking in appointment sorted with the midwife for next Wednesday afternoon when I’ll be 8+6. She seems absolutely lovely on the phone so I’m excited to meet her.

EPU scan put me as 7 weeks when I should have been 7+4. Since it’s only 4 days should I keep my dates the same until the dating scan does/doesn’t change them in a few weeks? I’ve read as the baby is so small measurements can be out at this stage and are far more accurate at 12 weeks.

Paranormalbouquet · 23/01/2018 15:14

Your midwives all seem very personal, I just got a letter telling me not to expect to see the same one twice Smile.

@MonaTheMoaner I know with DD they only changed dates if out by more than 5 days at 12 weeks. @Fia256 glad you are going to be looked after. Do you have high BP when not pregnant?

MonaTheMoaner · 23/01/2018 15:23

Paranormalbouquet In another area of the same city I had a similar experience with the midwife. Just a letter, an appointment for booking in and I never saw the same midwife more than once or twice. I hope this one is as lovely as she sounds.

Paranormalbouquet · 23/01/2018 15:30

@MonaTheMoaner I had a lovely midwife with DD, saw her each time. However the hospital experience was terrible. This time I need to attend the preterm clinic- I did have the option of attending that clinic and having midwifery care elsewhere but that just didn't make much sense to me, would prefer all my notes in one place. And also I don't think I could bare the postnatal ward of the original hospital again, I was there for a week and it was awful.

MrsCaecilius · 23/01/2018 15:50

Is anyone considering a home birth? Obviously depending on advice from
Midwife etc, but I really hate the idea of hospital and like the promise of having guaranteed one to One midwifery care too. Am
I bonkers?

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/01/2018 15:57

Had my booking in today. It's annoying because the local hospital is shit, so I've opted for the one where I had DS which is only a little further. However, it means I have to be under the care of the midwifery team at the hospital, so have to travel for all my appointments there. However, local midwife is LOVELY and was very kind and patient.

So now I've got to decide between shit hospital and nice midwifery team, versus nice-ish hospital and potentially not so great midwifes. (There was one who reduced me to tears when I had DS and has a terrible reputation locally.)

CuppaSarah · 23/01/2018 16:14

MrsCaelcilius I did with DS, it didn't pan out as I had preeclampsia but I was all prepped and ready for it. I would reccomend taking iron supplements as midwives will not allow a homebirth is you're low on iron. I was a little bit low(Not anaemic) and it was close if I would be allowed or not.

I FINALLY got a booking in appointment it's the 9th of Feb so I guess they do them at 10 weeks here. It took tracking down a number and speaking to a different midwife from the same team and she's booked me in. I'm not going to the nearest hospital, but the second. I had dd and ds there and the food was amazing! Plus the labour rooms all have private baths and as I'm looking at induction a nice bath appeals.

MonaTheMoaner · 23/01/2018 16:20

I’d love another home birth. DD2’s homebirth was spontaneous and I needed surgery to remove a retained placenta so I ended up needing to go into hospital.

If this pregnancy is low risk (unlike my others - polyhydramnios) then I’d love to explore a home birth. Failing that, a hospital water birth.

loveulotslikejellytots · 23/01/2018 16:37

I'd love a homebirth or even midwife led unit/water birth but I won't be allowed because of high BMI Sad my own fault but still doesn't stop me being disappointed.

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/01/2018 16:42

Have you asked the midwife jellytots? Technically they can’t turn you down for a home birth, and mine was actually quite supportive of the idea.

Some consultant led units have birthing pools so water birth might be possible. I told them my DH would drag me out if anything went wrong! I would never count on a waterbirth though. Loads of people want them and there just aren’t enough pools in most units.

HannahJH · 23/01/2018 17:06

So sorry for the loss. I was also due in June but lost probs at 4 weeks. Eve 3-4 days is a long time to think you’re having a baby so do not feel bad for getting excited!!

When did everyone refer to midwife for booking? I’ve not done it yet and I’m 6 weeks by LMP....
