congrats betsy - a lovely little girl.

pheebe and kittiwake (i think it was you two) - please dont worry about lack of movements or not feeling properly pg yet. i have only really properly started to feel movements in the past week and i am 21+2 now. with my first pg i didnt feel them till 21 or 22 wks and then only if i lay really still and concentrated hard, and i didn't look pg at all by then. this time...................my god!......there is NO mistaking that i am pg! dont worry please girls you will look and feel pg before you know it!

Apricott · 22/05/2007 13:45

Hello all

You turn your back for a day or two and a squillion new posts appear! Am overwhelmed.

Haven't read the lot, but I'd just add to the reassurances that have already been given about not looking pg or feeling movement yet. I was still wearing all my non-pg clothes at 5 months the first time round and certainly didn't feel movements earlier than all the books say, which is around 20 weeks if I remember correctly. I remember being really impatient about getting a bump and looking pg too. It'll come. Try not to worry.

Congrats on the scans everyone who's had them. Ejt - thinking of you at yours nowish. Hope all well. I'm torn about the sex thing - I'm starting to wnat to know, but dh really doesn't. Am secretly hoping it'll be obvious on Thursday! Love the forgetting the cardigan suggestion - very sly !

Take care A x

j20baby · 22/05/2007 13:47

looks really good actually j20! the cot changing into a bed is a good idea and it all seems VERY reasonable when you think you can spend more than that on just a cot!

out cot cost £59 4years ago and this poor old baby will be the third one to use it!!! we are having an extension (starting next week - ARRRGGGHHH! so ds and dd will be geting lovely new bedroom furniture in their new bedrooms but poor baby will have all the leftover crappy furniture! sure it wont mind too much though!

Kittiwake · 22/05/2007 14:38

Congrats Betsy great news

That looks good J20 I just need a cot so am trying to find one on ebay or freecycle first. Have lovely wide old chest of drawers that needs stripping that I think will do as a changing table.

Apricot and Greedy thanks for your reassuarance makes me feel better to know it is not unusual I am 19 weeks so hopefully should feel something soonish.

I think we will find out sex tomorrow if we can, both kind of feeling we would like to.

buffythenappyslayer21 · 22/05/2007 15:22

congrats betsy!!cant wait to hear from ejt now!!

that cot is the same as dd's j20.its really nice.i bought mine off my friend though so saved some money there!just bought a new mattress for it,but liek i said before dd wont stay in it!!when we move she'll have her own room so the baby will go in it (hopefully!!)

dh has jsut taken dd to the doctors.shes comeout in a rash all over her chest and tum,and some on her face.might be heatrash, but just abit concerned that its chicken pox.poor little mite goes through enough what with physio twice a day and 18 medicines a day,so if she has to have anything else,im sure she'll be grumpy!

good luck to those with scans in the next couple of days (cant remember off the top of my head whose got them!)got our fair tomorrow so will be wondering around the market all day looking for bargains!!!

Woooozle100 · 22/05/2007 15:29

Hello ladies

I've not been on here for yonks - been on holiday then cos I hadn't posted much before that I'd kind of forgot about it (spent so long avoiding antenatal threads and only posting in pg after mc)

Hello FloriaTosca - what chromosomes are involved in yr BT if you don't mind me asking? Not that it makes a great deal of difference really. All the best for yr scan tomorrow. From what you've posted, my gut feeling is that all is well - you have had so many mc that to get to this stage is such a good sign. I tentatively felt that this pg was different for me - measurements were all bang on, I felt v sicky but ravenously hungry etc - all of which I clung onto as positive signs. I can't believe what happened after yr amnio - omg that really is the worst case scenario. I was v torn over invasive testing but its not as though it could even be an option for you with this pg. Wishing you all the best x

My scan is 14th June by which time I'll be nearly 22 weeks. I tried to move it earlier cos my dd is having surgery on the 13th but only appointment would be 3 weeks later

Nice to read of all the scans going so well

Pheebe · 22/05/2007 16:22

Congratulations Betsy, lovely news, good luck with the giraly pinkness I;ve swung back to wanting a girl now...

J20 that set looks really nice and not a bad price either. Would go with any decoration too, always an important feature for me as I love redecorating

Been to see the mw this pm, she had a listen, all was well which I knew cos bub is wriggling all the time. She spoke to a doc (can u believe it!!!) at the foetal monitoring unit who said as I have no history of problems and no pain etc today they're happy to watch and wait but to ring them direct if I get any more fluid or pain and they'll see me straight away. She said the swelling and pressure 'down below' was quite normal in a second pregnancy cos all the muscles are shot which I guess is reassuring. O what we put ourselves through to bring our wonderful kids into the world

I want my scan now... got another 3 weeks to wait yet!

KezzaG · 22/05/2007 16:32

Will you all stop talking when I am not around please

Just a quickie to say well done Pheebe, you must be very relieved.

congratulations betsy, are you in a frenzy of pink as we speak???

ejt, hope all is well and will catch up with your scan results tomorrow.

good luck tomorrow greedy, kittiwake and floria.

HonorMatopoeia · 22/05/2007 16:58

Pleased all is well Pheebe and congratulations Betsy on your expected little pink one!

Hate to throw a dampner on the lovely proceedings of today, but just have to vent. Following my collapse on Sunday and the doctors telling me to take it easy, I've taken Monday off work, went in this morning till 1pm and I'm taking tomorrow off too - I only work Monday to Wednesday. Just spoken to my head who has said she'll need a sick note for this week as it is one end of half term? This in itself is fine, I've got an appointment to get a note tomorrow. Will the doctor backdate it till Monday and where do i stand having gone in for a half day today? Also she said she'd haveto have a word with me as this will effect my maternity leave - eh? I've checked all the information I have and as far as I can tell any absence on account of illness attributed to pregnancy is classed as ordinary sick leave if covered by a doctor's note. This only changes if you're within 4 weeks of your due date when maternity leave can be enforced.
Does anyone have any experience of this? She's worried me sick now saying we'll have to have this little chat. I wouldn't put it past her to try and enforce early maternity leave just to get me out the way. I really feel like crying

Mumpbump · 22/05/2007 17:05

Honor - I am sure any doctor would back-date a sick note to cover the Monday in these circumstances. Ask the doc to sign you off for the week and if she asks why you were in today, say you thought you were better, but now realise that you really weren't up to it.

My understanding is also that pg-related to sickness at this stage shouldn't affect your maternity leave. See the attached link. Perhaps you should print it off, highlight the relevant section and give it to her with your sweetest smile saying "I thought this might help you..."

pg info

Mumpbump · 22/05/2007 17:06

Oh - there is a bit that if you are ill during the time which counts towards your SMP qualifying time, it can affect your maternity leave. How long have you been in the job?

HonorMatopoeia · 22/05/2007 17:07

Sorry to be thick mumpbump but what is SMP? I've been working there for nine years! Thanks for the link x

HonorMatopoeia · 22/05/2007 17:07

Aha, statutory maternity pay?

FloriaTosca · 22/05/2007 17:08

Hi ejb. I dont mind you asking at all...its a balanced Robertsonian translocation of chromosomes 14:21, ie. Downs syndrome that I carry. Stats say its a 1:10 chance of this one having the condition...our particular family history has 1 Downs live birth in the last 33 live births so I think we as a family tend to have a much greater chance of m/c than actually having Downs. Untill losing Robyn we had every intention of testing..for #5 we actually went for the CVB at 11 wks only to find that the heart beat we had seen at 6wks and 9 wks had stopped, (the testing afterwards proved Downs)I thought that loss was bad at the time. Robyn was the worst case scenario, to be told 2 days after the amnio that she was healthy and then lose her 5 days later totally devastated me (it was weeks later that a routine blood test for Lupus anti-coagulant that had given a borderline result came back positive after re-testing).
Dh would still like to test, but realised that I was a total wreck just thinking about it...and the consultant at St Marys didnt exactly encourage us to go for an amnio again ...but even so, if tomorrows 20wk scan looks dodgy we will have a late amnio, however, the 12 week one showed a really thin nuchal, a prominent nasal bone and exceptional growth so with no obvious indicators for Downs then it is unlikely that they should show up now(having said that translocation Downs isnt "typical" anyway and the extra "bit" of 21 might not be the bit that causes those features)
There are times when I think our mothers and grandmothers had a much less stressfull time of it...they were pregnant or they werent..the baby was born healthy or not...no knowledge of genetics, no tests and choices, no statistics to bother with and no moral dilemmas.
All I need is a good scan tomorrow and this LO to get a bit more lively (Downs babies are notoriuosly sluggish) and I will be happy.
It must have been a great relief for you to get through the CVB and get a good result. I must admit that I envy you that knowledge. And it is amazing to meet someone else with similar problems...in 3 years on the boards you are the first! I look forward to chatting to you more

Mumpbump · 22/05/2007 17:11

Here's another page which confirms that pg related illness within the last 4 weeks before your EDD only triggers maternity leave early...

maternity leave

Your head sounds like a witch!

Mumpbump · 22/05/2007 17:12

Good luck to everyone with scans tomorrow and to you, Floria, in particular! I think you have extra cause for worry by the sound of it...

MrsFish · 22/05/2007 17:13

Sending you positive vibes for tomorrow, good luck. x

HonorMatopoeia · 22/05/2007 17:15

Thanks mumpbump and yes, she's a witch of the highest order, wish I didn't let her get to me as much as I do!
Good luck for tommorrow FT

Pheebe · 22/05/2007 17:36

HMP, she sounds like a right royal cow!! Do you have a union rep who could help you? You should NOT have to put up with treatment like this. I'm sure there are anti-discrimination laws to protect pregnant women from this kind of harassment. As I understand it even if you're not a member your local NUT rep should be able to advise you. GRRRR on your behalf!

HonorMatopoeia · 22/05/2007 17:39

Grrr indeed pheebe, she drives me but I suppose I should have known she'd start to pull these little tricks. We don't do union reps at our place, no one is brave enough to try it. I could get in touch with my NUT area representitive if it came to that though. I suspect she's just said it to get me worried though, I can't see how it could possibly effect my maternity leave or pay - she's simply winding me up - cow!!!!!

FloriaTosca · 22/05/2007 17:56

HMP when you have your little talk with the witch just click your heels together three times and repeat to yourself "theres no place like home"...it always did me the power of good when I was dealing with a wicked witch of the west type at work...in fact the whole company took to clicking their heels as she passed...she never knew why..and it made us feel great (childish but great)

HonorMatopoeia · 22/05/2007 18:04

FT, I love it! Ok, that'll be me clicking my heels and mentally singing somewhere over the rainbow then!! Just told Dh and he is absolutely raging with her. Have to keep thinking she's only got her claws in me for a few more months!

j20baby · 22/05/2007 18:22

Kitti - where are you? i've been offered a cot that you can have if you want it?

buffy - apparantly there is measles going around so your lo might have that?
