Mumpbump - Are you still feeling movement, if so, why are you so nervous about your scan?

I am getting really excited now, not long to go, away all weekend on a hen do too so it will go even quicker. Can't wait to find out what we are having, I hope he/she plays ball and lets us see.

DH is adamant it is another boy, he will need this time to get over his disappointment if it is a girl. I have no inkling whatsoever, so exciting

honeyapple · 10/05/2007 16:54

Good luck MrsFish- I hope his/hers legs arent crossed! Would DH really mind a girl? Sorry- forgotten- what other DC do you have?

Mumpbump · 10/05/2007 17:00

It's just I have seen a couple of threads about abnormalities being picked up at the 20 week scan which is, after all, to check that everything is developing correctly. They said everything looked fine at 12 weeks, so hopefully it will still be okay, but I guess I'm just a little nervous...

alicet · 10/05/2007 17:03

Apparently 70% of serious abnormalities are picked up on the 12 week scan so if that was normal you can be fairly reassured. Still worrying though isn't it?

Mumpbump · 10/05/2007 17:13

I didn't know that statistic - that's definitely encouraging! Off home now!

MrsFish · 10/05/2007 17:22

Honeyapple - we already have a ds who is 23 mths old. I think DH has a rosy view of having two boys as he is really close to his brother, there is the same age difference between them as there will be between our two. I keep telling him that not every sibling gets on as well as he and his brother but he just sweeps that aside.

At the moment I want another boy, but I don;t know whether that is more because I know where I am with boys now, if I have a girl next it will feel like I am starting all over again. Also all my friends have girls and I have two nieces, I feel like ds needs some back up

honeyapple · 10/05/2007 17:39

Yeah but dont forget... DS will be able to drool over all his sister's mates when he is sixteen!

maisym · 10/05/2007 20:06

hello all - bigger here (haven't weighed myself!)

eij - I have progestrone tablets to stop/calm contractions - could this be something to ask your doc about? hope you're ok.

haven't caught up with everyone - but hope things are going well for all.

One the pushchair front I'll use a baby bjorn sling instead.

I have a detailed scan next week but I've decided not to have an amnio which the doc had already said I didn't need. Will be stressed about the scan. Feel relief when it's over & I'm out of the hospital (I was like this when preg before) - just hope everything will be ok.

asur · 10/05/2007 20:19

Hi all, not much to report, just thought I'd say hi. I've been so tired the last few days - DS has been ill so getting up really early. This morning though, after getting up and feeding him, I went back to bed, he cuddled in and I fell asleep - ended up waking up 20mins before I had to leave! Bit of a rush but that extra nap made me feel so much better

I'm sorry but can't remember who mentioned dry/itchy skin. I had this with DS - excema flared up about 20wks, really bad on face/arms... Total nightmare but I used aqueous to keep it from drying out completely and amazingly enough, it disappeared about 2hrs after DS arrived! Pg does weird things to our bodies!

Alicet - laughed when you said about having sex when you have a toddler about. DH and I were having sex at weekend (as I now don't feel repulsed by the idea!) and DS wandered into our bedroom with a ricecake in his hand, he stood at side of bed and watched us while eating and making funny noises! DH was put off and had to stop!

Oh, and I'm suddenly now getting LOTS of sexual dreams! don't remember it when pg with DS but they are quite vivid - not that I'm complaining

asur · 10/05/2007 20:20

sorry about long post - didn't realise I was going to ramble so much

alicet · 10/05/2007 20:32

I have been having lots of really vivid sexual dreams too about really inappropriate people!!! Quite disconcerting the next time you see them!!!

Asur the thought of your son walking in on you made me really laugh! Think my hubby would totally freak if that happened! Have to say I'd be a bit put off myself although would find it very funny! What did you do?

betsycoe · 11/05/2007 08:28

I've just been having wiered dreams full stop. Last night I had a dream that I was robbing a bunker in a disused underground tube station that contained 'government secrets'. Half way through I noticed that it was 11.30am and I hadn't booked a day off work to carry out my crime. I woke up convinced that my manager would be calling me in to be sacked.

If dreams are supposed to be your brain making sense of the day's events I'm worried!

buffythenappyslayer21 · 11/05/2007 12:38

hi everyone!

snap with the weird dreams.been having them since early pregnancy.

spd has started getting bad.typical that its got worse since i saw mw on monday!sciatica seems to be worse on a night,so im thinking that its maybe down to being on my feet too much during the day.anyone got any magic cures for either spd or sciatica?

dh seems to be getting sympathy pains!everytime i say my back hurts,so does his.i feel sick,so does he.so cant wait for labour pains if i start before my cs date!!!

been looking at prams on internet.was going to get a pramette dodah (mamas and papas one) but ive just seen a fully restored silvercross pram on ebay and i NEEEEED it!!!dh isnt convinced though!!iknow theyre not very practical, but they do look lovely, and dd can sit in a seat on the top.plus when it comes to selling them,i think you near as much get your money back.will have to work my magic on dh,failing that...pregnancy hormones come in handy as an excuse for blackmail!!!!

J20BABY · 11/05/2007 13:21

Hi all, can't say i've been having dreams, because i haven't been sleeping too great really.

feeling a bit down today, my mw rung me and said that my iron levels have gone down again!!

i'm on 600mg's a day now and don't know what else i can do!

i'm trying to have food with iron and vitamin c in, i suppose it does explain my extreme tiredness lately and apparantly can also affect you in other ways which may also explain why i've been feeling so down as well, she has made me an appointment with the antenatal doctor next wednesday, so i might have to have iron injections.

i just don't know where to start with prams, i'm going to see if i find out what sex the baby is on tuesday so at least i can start with what colours i want

Sorry to hear you're feeling down J2OBABY. Hopefully the docs appointment next week will be able to give you some advice. And you have your scan to look forward to as well! Can't wait for mine although a bit anxious about it all too...

PolarMummy · 11/05/2007 16:02

Sorry to hear you are feeling down J20, hopefully you will feel better if they can sort out your Iron levels.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no definitive answer to the question of what pram to buy. I really want a proper carry cot, so I have decided (for today anyway, it will probably change several times yet) that I am going to buy a carry cot and wheels and whatever else comes with the package and then worry about a lightweight stroller further down the line when I actually need it

PolarMummy · 11/05/2007 16:05

Got this sent to me in an email and thought I just had to share it with you guys, I hope that it gives you all as good a chuckle as it gave me and I hope no one is offended

Pregnancy Q & A & more!

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's
borderline irrational.
A: So what's your question?

Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labour,
but pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.

Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife
is in labour?
A: Not unless
the word "alimony" means anything to you.

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.

Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act
normal again?
A: When the kids are in college.

J20BABY · 11/05/2007 19:29

thanks, i'm hoping the iron does sort me out, as i hate feeling like this.

i think i'll get a travel system, as i don't realy walk anywhere, unless i've driven there, apart from taking dd to school, and even then i drive most of the time at the moment.

i've no idea about all the different brands of prams, so its likely mine will be from argos or somewhere

i am kind of looking forward to the scan, i've known the date since i was 10 weeks, so its taken ages to get here, but i've also got a sense of dread, so in a way i am a bit scared to go, my mum is meant to be coming with me, but only for herself i think not to support me, and i bet all the other mums-to-be have there loving partners with them. sorry for sounding bitter, think i'm just having a bad week and feeling a bit lonely

Just popping in to say hi ... I can't believe how fast this thread is going!

Polarmummy - I love the email thing ... I think it's really funny!

J20 - Hope they get your iron levels sorted! When I had a ll the blood loss last year, somebody suggested that I try Floradix or Spatone - I used Floradix, and that was fine for me, but I've been old that Spatone is good is you have problems absorbing iron.

Buffy - I wish I had a magic cure for spd - cause I've got that and coccyx pain - the mw put in a physio referral 4 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything yet!

Thanks for the suggestion of progesterone tablets maisy - my gp is unlikely to prescribe them - she refused to give me anti-emetics, so is unlikely to agree to progesterone tablets! Contractions are still there, but have gone back to the normal painless tightenings / bh that I remember from when pg with ds. Baby is moving a lot - especially when I sing!

We sang at the game last night - and we won - just have to hope that Borders beat Ospreys - then we'll win the league (apologies to you Apricott if you're an Ospreys fan!) - mind you, chances of that happening a fairly remote - if Ospreys win today (against the team bottom of the table), then they win the league - fairly motivational, don't you think!

Sorry to anybody else I haven't mentioned - hello [waves] ... have a good weekend everybody.

ejt1764 · 12/05/2007 14:44

J20 - have just read your last message properly ... good luck with your scan - I'm thinking of you!

J20BABY · 12/05/2007 20:08

thanks ejt, thats really nice

Evening, thanks for your messages the sciatica seems to be improving so fingers crossed.

Think I will try for a vaginal delivery afterall and keep my fingers crossed xxxxxx

My next scan is the 1st June so hoping this baby is as coperative at showing its bits as the last 2.

Might be moving house, hopefully before september as DS2 starts preschool in sept (30th!) and this baby due 4th oct. Bad timing again esp as I have been early with ds 1 & 2.

We have a Jane Powertwin for ds1&2 which we will use for DS2&baby. This is the best pram and we have had a few!!! It has the car seat which will fit on either the front or back seat. Also have a pram (can't remember name, will check tomorrow) which we got on a car boot (immaculate) which we use for DS2 now with the pushchair attachment which will lay flat when he goes to sleep and will face front or back. Also has a cot for the new baby, so for short walks can use the buggy board for DS2 and DS1 will walk when not at school.

Good luck to everyone.

morning everyone!

ejt-go to your gp about referral for physio, when i was pg last time and spd started mw said she'd sent in referral, didnt hear a sausage from them and went to gp,she sent me there the same day.im supposed to wait until i see mw in 4 weeks to see if i need referring, but as it is its getting worse, ive started using my belt and if it carries on im off to moan to my gp!

jersey-snap with the house move!the housing association we rent from are currently building us a bigger house because of us having 2 disabled children (and the fact we are a family of 7-8 when baby arrives-and we are in a 3 bed house!).weve been told it will be finished and ready for us to move into in october!im dreading it!!just hoping that they either get a wriggle on (which they are at the moment...my new house now has the start of walls!!) and that it will be finished early,or that baby decides to arrive early (my others have) and that baby will be here before the move.have had visions of getting my cs date, and housing ringing to say we can pick the keys up on the smae day!!it'd be sods law!!

anyway, good luck to mrsfish,j20 and kezza on your scans this week!!

KezzaG · 13/05/2007 16:28

Polarmummy, love the emails, I have sent them on to a few new parents I know.

J20 I think you have every right to moan a bit, God knows I do and I have a supportive dh. Being tired makes everything seem worse as well so the sooner you can get your iron levels up the better. Im sure the scan will be fine, but I know from experience it makes no difference poeple saying that, but at least it will be here soon and then you can relax a bit.

Really looking forward to my scan, but also getting a bit jittery. good luck to all of us who have scans this week.

Buffy did everything work out with the man living near you and your son? Sorry if I am dragging up old news but I know it was a worry for you.

Alicet Im with you on inappropriate sex dreams. Mine are wrong wrong wrong.

My SPD hasnt started yet, but do any of you who suffer with it have private healthcare or have cover with your dh? I didnt realise but even though it is pregnancy related it is covered by quite a few providers (I know my healthcare company cover it) and it would mean an immediate referral if you can go private.

Anyway, hope you all had a nice weekend.

ps greedy I am at PAH for a consultant appointment Tuesday, dont suppose you have any reason to be there. I have to ask or I will be looking at everyone wondering if one is you!

gemmamc · 13/05/2007 18:17

hello! I've had a very stressful few days. I don't seem to be able to stop worrying, so please forgive me but I have to moan a bit, and the message may be a bit long.

So, first I got a thrush last week. Took the pessary friday and cream, etc (scary thing to put something in there...). Yesterday I thought it had worked, but today....(TMI warning) discharge got even worse than it was. Ok, will have to go back to GP.

Then around Friday I started feeling very low. I know what triggered it - a work thing, plus being by myself too much (dh on business trip for almost a week and I worked very hard all week from home without seeing any friends or colleagues).

Finally, I managed to get rid of the blues caused by not so serious things...and then something really serious happens. I hear that my MIL, who unfortunately is very ill, caught MRSA in the hospital. Of course, I am terribly worried for her. But then I also start thinking about myself and the LO too, given I went to see her many times recently. A quick search on mumsnet, a call to NHS direct, etc - reassure me that I am unlikely to have caught it....but only a bit to be honest. I am still worried.

So, looks like next week I'll go see GP and call midwifes.

But the main thing, I think, is that I have to calm down and try to worry less. And cheer up a bit although clearly curcumstances are a bit tough (esp MIL situation in general).

Sorry for going on and on. I really needed to say this to someone, as my dh comes back tonight and I don't want to be a burden for him with all my concerns at a time when he has his own worries ...

Thanks for listening...
