Quick question re measles outbreak: if I was vaccinated as a child (I honestly can't remember when), am I personally at risk of catching measles from a friend's child who hasn't been vaccinated? I know there's a danger to unborn babies and babies under 13 months, but not 100% sure if that still holds if I was previously vaccinated?..

Relax12 · 12/12/2017 18:13

Hi all
I've been lurking here since I found out in October but didn't want to join until we had a good 12 week scan.
Currently just over 14 weeks pregnant with first baby! Started to slowly feel back to normal this week too!
How do I join the Facebook group?

Sleeeeeepy · 12/12/2017 18:31

@SylvesterTheCat Same thing happened to me yesterday and I've only actually been ill a couple of times (despite constant nausea until a week ago). I'm 14+3. Apparently it's quite common around now, something about the placenta taking over and hormones, didn't have it last time so its a new one on me! I seem to be OK today....

Korez · 12/12/2017 19:50

I've been eating like a horse... I'm gonna end up huge 😭
Only smell that's making me sickly is cigarettes...
With DD1 the smell of fish made me projectile vomit...
No cravings either really 😐

GreggsSausageRolls · 12/12/2017 22:07

I was sick for the first tine this morning...... I'm bloomin 15 weeks!!!!!

Alice0906 · 13/12/2017 02:04

@backformore
If you were vaccinated you probably have immunity, but it's not totally guaranteed. I don't have the numbers, but the vaccination doesn't work in a small percentage of people. I know I had the MMR jab, but still managed to catch measles as a child.

If your friend's child has measles and is likely to be infectious I would try to avoid them if possible for a few days, just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't avoid anyone just because they hadn't been vaccinated though.

Provided that you are immune, your immunity will protect your unborn baby.

Hello! This is my first time posting, we're 16 weeks, due right at the end of May so suspect it'll tip over into June. I just wondered if anyone has any experience of an ovarian cyst while pregnant. I've been told conflicting things by doctors so getting a bit confused!

Originally they said they'd drain it after 16-20 weeks as it's quite large and could get in the way in labour but now I've been told they won't do anything till after the birth and then it'll be an operation unless I happen to have a c-section, they'll whip it out at the same time.

First timer so very confused, but I appreciate it's quite a rare query so not sure anyone can help!
And lovely to meet you all :)

backformore · 13/12/2017 16:15

@Alice0906 "Provided that you are immune, your immunity will protect your unborn baby."

Thanks, this is what I was wondering! And yes, I realise there's a chance that immunity may have worn off (I think this is possibly something that they check with our early bloodwork, isn't it?..). Reassuring to hear, any rate, that it's less a concern now than in the early baby days before the LO can be immunized...

ClareB83 · 13/12/2017 17:14

Hi @Lanski83 sorry I don't know anything about ovarian cysts. How did you find out you have one? Does it hurt?

OP posts:
Lanski83 · 13/12/2017 17:19

@ClareB83 - it was picked up at the scan, we had a viability scan at 6 weeks and then at the 12 weeks scan they saw it had grown a lot. No pain which they're surprised at 7cm, it's just a wait and see I think. I thought it was a long shot to find a fellow cyst mum to be as most cysts disappear by the 12 wk scan. Just unlucky I guess!

ClareB83 · 13/12/2017 17:48

@Lanski83 you'll probably find someone with experience if you start a post with it in the title. Mumsnet is big. Someone will know something, but the June 2018 Mums is a much smaller pool.

Glad it doesn't hurt.

For those of you who aren't members yet, there's a secret fb group we set up in the first June thread.
It's much easier to follow things over there. If you want an invite, email [email protected] and provide your email address connected with your fb account.
There's about 70+ of us over there so it's much busier.
Looking forward to seeing you there! 👍🏽

Just to confirm; it's completely secrecy so your fb friends won't see that you're a member!

Korez · 13/12/2017 23:04

Thanks for the add x

SylvesterTheCat · 14/12/2017 11:48

Is anyone else experiencing loads of people asking "was it planned...?, even by colleagues and people who don't really know you very well? I find it terribly intrusive, whatever the answer - though I'm quite a private person. Or am I just stuck in the old ages where I'm easily offended by such things?

Any ideas on how to gently avoid answering this question without seeming too tight-arsed?

thumbelina03 · 14/12/2017 14:17

I've not told colleagues yet, apart from my manager, and I'm not planning on telling them until we've seen all DHs family over Christmas. I'm quite private at work anyway and hare everybody knowing my business. I'm currently off sick until Monday and have had a few nosy text messages from work people which I've chosen to ignore!

Mummyloves09 · 15/12/2017 12:41

Good morning ladies,

I only told a few work colleagues recently. To avoid certain work duties (yes I'm being slightly lazy😁). But only the ones closest to me.

Is anyone else's nipples extremely painful especially with temperature change?

Has anyone started buying the odd bits and Bob's? Like if they see a good deal or sale etc

ElizabethLemon · 15/12/2017 16:35

Yes @SylvesterTheCat a colleague said that to me and when I answered that no it wasn’t really planned she said “no I thought not” 😱😂. Odd woman!

@Mummyloves09 we’ve bought our pushchair!

Mummyloves09 · 15/12/2017 17:27

@Elizabethlemon can I be nosey and ask what made you choose that particular pushchair and what were your main selling points when looking for a pushchair.
Only because I'm stuck between Jane crosswalk and maxi cosi nova.

ElizabethLemon · 15/12/2017 20:51

@Mummyloves09 of course! We’ve bought a Micralite Superlite, we had one with ds and found it really good especially compared to the giant travel system we had at first. We’re in London and use public transport a lot and found the micralite very easy to get on and off buses etc.. It also has large back wheels like the bugaboo chameleon so is good on different terrains but it’s narrower so doesn’t take up quite as much space.

We’ve bought the carrycot this time but not sure how much we’ll use it as I’m hoping to use a sling as much as possible.

MrsT4 · 16/12/2017 00:05

Evening Ladies,

I am a bit late to the party but wondering if I can join you?

I joined the July group thinking I was approx 9 weeks and due in July and had some cramping the other day and was referred for a scan by EPU - turns out I am 14 weeks and Due June 14th. So that was a bit of a surprise but a lovely one to find out. I wasn’t sure if dates as hadn’t had a period since I came off contraception so had worked backwards to when I thought we’d conceived. Turned it it actually must have been about 2 weeks after stopping contraception so that explains the lack of period.
Hoping I haven’t missed too much and can catch up with where we all are.

This is baby number 4 for me. I have two teenagers and a toddler so a right mix of ages in my house!

How is everyone keeping?

ClareB83 · 16/12/2017 08:19

Hi @MrsT4 welcome!!

How lovely to be further along than expected. I'd love to cut off five weeks and it would totally justify the sudden bump I have!

I'm 16+1 with twins, EDD 1st June.

Have a lot more energy than my first trimester and used it to hit the dance floor last night for the first time since I've been pregnant. Was really good fun.

MrsT4 · 16/12/2017 08:30

Oh Twins! How wonderful.Smile

Christmas night out last night was it? You’ve done well to get along for a boogie. Mines was last night but I called off. We are waiting until xmas day to announce so I couldn’t face the barrage of ‘why are you not drinking?’ and being surrounded by drunk people.

ClareB83 · 16/12/2017 09:37

It was my mum's Christmas Do (I go every year) and she told everyone I was pregnant almost immediately. So there was no need to hide my soft drinking ways.

People I didn't even know were congratulating me. Nice but weird.

Hope you're a having great weekends. Has anyone found any decent maternity leggings (non see through!)?

Mumof3cheeky · 17/12/2017 08:14

Hi everyone! Haven’t checked in for a kong time.have had the panorama test and all came back low risk and also found out gender so feel like we know everything yet still feels very surreal. I’m coming up to 16weeks and a week or 2 ago I felt flutters and got very excited about it but the last few days just back to not feeling very pregnant at all. I’m hoping that’s to do with placenta finally taking over the hormones and also being super busy but have my first midwife appointment on thursday and hopefully get to hear the heartbeat for some reassurance 🙂
