Nothing really happening here bump and lower back quite achy no appts until 28 weeks either seems an age away!!

ElizabethLemon · 24/02/2018 17:52

@RockinRobinTweets I’m dreading it! Did you go on your own or take someone along?

Yes it’s such a long wait between appointments. I am at the hospital quite regularly so am kept up to date and reassured but it’s over 3 months between community midwife appointments which is ages!

RockinRobinTweets · 24/02/2018 17:54

No, I just sat on my own. Wasn’t much to it really. Take a book to entertain yourself with though and hope they’ve got comfy chairs!!

ElizabethLemon · 24/02/2018 17:59

My husband is off that day and has offered to come along, I’m worried that I’ll be in a foul mood and end up wanting to punch him. As you say I think I’ll take a book and sit quietly with that.

ClareB83 · 24/02/2018 18:16

I just went in my own and played on my iPad.

I feel like I've had loads of bloody appointments! Always there by the seems of it.

GTT in March so will take a book as can be there 3 hours apparently!

Flying to Marrakesh Monday, so hoping not too uncomfortable on the flight and in the heat.

hungrymouse · 24/02/2018 19:17

Hi all, I have been lurking on this thread as am due my second on 1 June but haven't posted before. @Mummyloves09 my waters broke at 18 weeks with my first so I know how shocking and scary it is to find yourself in this situation so suddenly and unexpectedly. We were very lucky and he held on all the way to 34 weeks and is now a happy, thriving two-and-a-half year old, though it has been quite a journey. I'm sure your doctors have explained that after PPROM many people deliver within 48 hours (hence keeping you in), the next target is a week, but if you make it past that the chances of keeping baby in for a while longer yet are pretty good. It is really positive that they have been on the ball with antibiotics, steroids and a plan to deliver at 34 weeks - it means they are completely on top of best practice. If you haven't yet found it, have a search for the PPROM support organisation Little Heartbeats - there is a website, a public Facebook page and a private Facebook support group. If you send Ciara Curran a message via the public Facebook page she will be able to send you an information pack - it has lots of detailed guidance plus some things for you to make the time in hospital a bit easier. I help with Little Heartbeats now so please feel free to message me if you have any questions and I will help if I can. Hope things are still OK this evening and I will be thinking of you over the next few days.

SparklesandBubbles · 24/02/2018 20:21

@ClareB83 hope you are ok? Try not to worry too much. It's good news that you are being monitored closely and having regular scans to check them. I really need to start sorting my hospital bag - last time I got a couple of nighties from primark which did the job and were great for breastfeeding after. In fact I need to start getting ready for the baby in general. Think I'm a bit too relaxed as I've got pretty much everything I need.

@ElizabethLemon how lovely for your DS to see baby again. I've got another scan and Glucose test too on the 5th March when I'll be 28weeks but not taking DS with me. Looking forward to seeing baby again though - definitely not looking forward to glucose test.

I had no idea the GTT could take so long. My initial GTT is at 10 then my growth scan is at 11:25. Hopefully I'll be able to do both ok. I'm imaging the baby to be completely hyper for the growth scan due to the glucose!!

@Pittcuecothecookbook have an amazing time in Marrakesh it's an amazing place. I was lucky enough to live in Morocco as a teenager. How long are you there for? It's worth a trip to Essaouira on the coast - only about an hour from Marrakesh and a lot calmer.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 24/02/2018 21:08

We're going for 10 days! Originally were planning on staying in Essaouira but thought a day trip may be better, so thanks for the tip.

Sending virtual hugs mummyloves xx

Bluesnail · 25/02/2018 09:12

Hello everyone! I am very late, but hoping I can join? I've been chatting on the June babies thread over on pregnancy and didn't realise there was one here!
I am 23+1 with a baby boy, had our detailed scan on 09/02 and he looked perfect, and very wriggly like he was at the 12 week scan. I have been feeling lots of movements daily for a few weeks now, and can now see them from outside and hubby can feel them too. It is such a magical feeling!
Had a midwife appointment on Wednesday and heard the heartbeat which was wonderful, all going as it should be. Booked for my glucose tolerance test at the start of April, which I'm sure will be a thrilling couple of hours waiting lol.
Sending you best wishes @Mummyloves09 Flowers

ClareB83 · 25/02/2018 09:22

Hi @Bluesnail! Welcome!

@SparklesandBubbles yes I'm doing OK thanks. Just a bit too alone with my thoughts this weekend as DH unexpectedly has had to work both days. Feel bad for him, he's so knackered, but when he comes home he still can't resist putting together one of the boys that arrived. We've filled it with nappies to stop the cat thinking it's a new bed for him!

The fitted sheets we got from Aldi don't seem quite wide enough (we got quite a fancy deep mattress). Can anyone recommend wide fitted cot sheets?

Northernbeachbum · 25/02/2018 09:42

@mummyloves09 it must be horrible stuck in hospital but 8 mins to NICU if needed sounds worth the hassle. Not that I wouldn't be a nightmare in your position Blush glad your dm and dp have been taking such good care of you

@clareb83 are the cats accepting of the baby things arriving in the house? Trying to do it but by bit so the dog doesn't stress.

@bluesnails welcome to the chat Smile

I haven't got a GTT booked in, should I Have?

Starting to feel like maybe we are under prepared but finally booked on for antenatal classes. My back is aching a lot unless I lie on it which is obviously not achievable all the time

ClareB83 · 25/02/2018 09:53

Weirdly my cat is not that curious and can take a while to notice anything new in the house. So I think he'll take a week or so to spot the cot and then just give it a good scenting. He's ignored the pushchair etc when they've come into the house for a few days before going to the garage. Unless they have a box, then he's straight in the empty box.

I had a GTT because my BMI is over 30. You need a risk factor of some sort to be asked to do it in this country. Although my friend says in Oz everyone does it, but you can do it at your local pharmacy rather than a hospital.

OP posts:
Pittcuecothecookbook · 25/02/2018 10:21

I'm really worried about my cat. We've not bought anything into the house yet but she does love my maternity pillow and she likes being very cuddly in the bed with us usually. My nan keeps telling me horror stories of cats and babies in the 50s which isn't helping!

Shutupanddance1 · 25/02/2018 10:43

Glad to hear baby is holding on in there @Mummyloves09!

In the country I’m in it’s pretty standard to do a GTT at 28 weeks - although the orange stuff tastes so vile.

I’ve only a car seat to buy now - trying to pick one that won’t take up half the back seat will be a battle Grin

ClareB83 · 25/02/2018 10:53

I know what you mean about horror stories @Pittcuecothecookbook. We're planning on shutting the cat out of the bedroom at night until the babies are big enough to defend themselves. Will be odd as we rarely shut doors and he's used to sleeping on my feet when he feels like it.

We will also get the babies a mosquito net, as we get a lot of mozzies near the river, which I think will be an extra deterrent.

Haven't quite decided what the plan is for during the day yet: carrycots downstairs, usual cot, other cot in nursery. In fact I can't even decide which room we'll sleep in (and we only have a 2 bed house).

OP posts:
Pittcuecothecookbook · 25/02/2018 11:06

Haha @claireb83 - I'm the same. 2 bed house and still cant work it out. Bought a second hand chicco next to me thing for the bed and moses basket downstairs, and may purchase sleepyhead if she doesnt like the moses basket. After a few months I'll look for a proper crib for the spare room, and get rid of the desk and futon in there.
Do you guys think it's a bad idea to wait that long? Hoping she can fit around us for a while 🙈 I'm not sure it's the done thing. Should I set up the nursery for her now?

Northernbeachbum · 25/02/2018 11:07

I think cats are usually not fans of the squeaky noises babies make, we had 3 when I was a baby and they used to avoid me completely! There's always horror stories I'm starting to think no matter what you're doing with the baby. Some do like the warm cuddles though

Haha we're having a similar dilema @clareb83. We're thinking Moses basket downstairs and cot in our room with a sleepy head in, possibly pushed up to our bed if need be. Although depending on how I'm feeling after he arrives we might sleep downstairs at night for a few days so I don't know what we will do then. Move the Moses I guess. I do love our bed so though so I'm pretty sure I'd rather struggle up the stairs post c sec than sleep in the spare

Tried to shave my legs this morning, had not realised how big I've got.....ended up having to do the best I can but may have to beg dp to help later, which he will but it's not ideal. I also can't seem to stop farting, sometimes there's no warning and it just happens Blush pregnancy is so glamourous

Northernbeachbum · 25/02/2018 11:09

@Pittcuecothecookbook we aren't really doing much to the nursery for a while as he will be with us and then we can see what works.....friends have fully decorated and made beautiful nurseries prior to arrivals but I don't think he will notice either way for a long time so we're just not bothering......hopefully that doesn't count as lazy parenting

Pittcuecothecookbook · 25/02/2018 11:09

Yes to the random no-warning farts. Not great on my 2 hour commute Blush

ElizabethLemon · 25/02/2018 11:23

@Northernbeachbum I shaved my legs yesterday and it took about 45 minutes. Not sure I’ll bother again before the baby is born!

I was worried about our cat when pregnant with my first as we lived in a very open plan flat with no real option of shutting her away. Honestly she was totally disinterested and actively avoided him. 7 years on she still keeps her distance although he feeds her now so she’s warmed to him a little.

Bluesnail · 25/02/2018 11:28

Thank you for the kind welcome.
As @ClaireB83 said, I only have to have the GTT done as my BMI was over 30 at booking in appointment.
We are planning on buying the cot but baby will be sleeping in moses basket (the same one which my mum used for me and my siblings, which is nice) in our room for the first few months. Just want to buy the cot so it is one less thing to worry about once baby is actually here!
And another yes to loads of farting...not very popular with my DH at the moment Grin

ClareB83 · 25/02/2018 12:03

We've gone straight for a cot rather than a next to me/Moses purely because it's twins and they can share one cot for 5/6 months but would outgrow anything else really quickly.

I've been told they sleep better together which I love (and hope is true).

We haven't done much to the nursery yet. On hormonal days I cry that it makes me a bad mum that I haven't totally redecorated and bought special furniture. So it makes me feel better that you're not all sitting in pristine Pinterest worthy nurseries crotcheting hats.

The room is already a pale colour, with cream drawers and shelves and pale blue side table. So that's all staying. As is the tumble dryer as we've nowhere else to put it! We've added robot curtains, some blue blackout blinds and a robot lampshade. And we're planning on putting up some wall stickers (anything but robots!). I'm hoping adding their books, toys etc to the shelves will finish it off (when we get them).

I think I feel bad because I don't have a really clear vision for the room when I normally enjoy decorating.

Farting is not too bad, but I burp every time I roll onto my left. No matter how many times a night I roll. How is there always more?!

I've given DH a warning that I have about a month left of being able to shave my own legs. I realised on our wedding day that seeing my own bikini line is long gone.

OP posts:
Pittcuecothecookbook · 25/02/2018 12:22

@claireb83 that sounds organised to me! When I saw no nursery, I mean it's got our guitars and keyboards in, our desk and laptop, gym equipment, futon for desks and we've done nothing - no curtains, lampshades eek! Feeling a bit rubbish now. I think it might be cos she'll be in with us until Xmas probably. Are you going to sleep in with them in that room first or will theit crib be in with you? X

ClareB83 · 25/02/2018 12:56

The room still also has a double bed and a dressing table in it and a TV. Plus DH's clothes in the drawers and working from home stuff in a box under the bed. So it is a weird hotch potch of grown up and nursery.

Our plan was cot in our bedroom for first six months with nursery prepared including the second cot, which we would use for naps sometimes. Did involve cot blocking the wardrobe a bit.

Then I panicked about DH being too sleep deprived to ride his motorbike and suggested we leave the double bed in the nursery so I could go in there and breastfeed at night if needed.

Then our bed started hurting my knees, shoulders, hips etc. So we moved into the nursery. And now I'm thinking maybe we all stay in there. Everything fits (just) and DH can go to our room if he needs to.
