Hi all - I had lost this thread I think!

I’m 17 weeks now, second baby. Took our first DD stuff today, thank god I bought mainly neutral stuff from 0-3 months so I have nothing to buy, DD is only 18 months so we still have all the baby paraphernalia! I’ve just Moses basket and cot mattresses to buy new and a wee buggy board for our M&P flip pram to get really.
If it does end up being a boy tho I’ll splash out on a few sleepsuits Wink

I’d add Lansinoh nipple cream to that list if you plan on breastfeeding, it was a lifesaver and if you can’t find a decent nappy rash cream, it works wonder on nappy rash Smile.

I used a microwave steraliser as well when I pumped but I didn’t need it too often but saved counter space in the kitchen.

I signed up today to NCT, starts April and ends in May too as a previous poster.

I missed about a Facebook page, will go back to look!

thepatchworkcat · 05/01/2018 14:49

Hi all, not been on the thread before, can I jump in and say hello, 18 weeks pregnant with number 2, already have DS aged 5, due 8th June waves

SylvesterTheCat · 05/01/2018 15:22

Welcome @thepatchworkcat !

What has everyone been doing about flu jabs- have you had yours?

I'm reluctant but after reading stories about rises in hospital admissions from flu lately, I'm wondering if I should just go and get it once and for all. I've never had a flu jab. I'm not worried about the needle or anything, just that I feel like I'm doing well through this pregnancy and don't want to rock the boat (if it ain't broke don't fix it).

I've heard such conflicting advice and don't know what to do. Will it make me feel horrible for a few days? Those who have had it- did you feel any different after having it?

ClareB83 · 05/01/2018 15:39

I got it straight away in October as I'd heard how horrible the flu season was in Oz this year and didn't want to wait.

My arm aches for a couple of days and I felt a little bit like a cold was about to start for a few days in the following week but that was it.

I'd definitely recommend getting it as I can't imagine being knocked out by flu for two weeks on top of all the other pregnancy stuff.

Get your whooping cough jab too!

thepatchworkcat · 05/01/2018 15:59

Thanks Sylvester!
Definitely get the jab, you really don’t want flu!
I had mine before Christmas and apart from an achey arm for a day or two I didn’t have any other side effects.

HoneyBee92 · 05/01/2018 16:56

Hey everyone, can I jump in? It's taken me some digging to find a June babies thread! I'm 15+1 weeks, due 28th June with my first.

I hope you're all enjoying your pregnancies :) I'm still waiting to start feeling awake again but that might never happen!

I was offered my flu jab at my 12 week appointment, which was convenient. I just went for it and had a slightly achy arm and a cold that weekend (no idea if it could be related), but other than that was fine! I'll be getting the whooping cough jab at my 20 week scan. I'm glad my hospital make it so quick and easy to get done.

Mumof3cheeky · 05/01/2018 17:03

I spoke to my midwife when I went for my 16 week appointment who said so far June is very busy for babies due and it just shows as every time I come on MN ante natal clubs June 2018 is always on top the most active 😀
It’s funny as I before sept-Oct was always super busy for babies and I had my previous ones then and now another busy month 😆

SylvesterTheCat · 05/01/2018 17:45

Thanks everyone for the advice re flu jab. I think I'll just bite the bullet and go in on Monday after work.

SylvesterTheCat · 05/01/2018 17:46

... and whooping cough jab too (though for some reason the idea of that one doesn't bother me so much).

Intelinside · 05/01/2018 17:48

I'm having flu and whooping cough on 22nd Jan at my GP. X

ClareB83 · 05/01/2018 18:44

I decided not to have the flu jab and i'm suffering with the flu ( I have always been one to learn the hard way) however, I have heard whooping cough jab is very important, states a thread on mumsnet " it was a near miss for the baby". So I 100% Will be getting the whooping cough.

Intelinside · 05/01/2018 19:54

Can I ask why not flu jab mummyloves? I'm curious as I couldn't find much information about why some people don't have it other than you could still get the flu. It would be useful to know your reasons in case I'm missing something

Lulu298 · 05/01/2018 20:01

I thought it was important for pregnant mums as flu can raise your temperature for prolonged periods which isn't good for the fetus..?

Had mine at 7 weeks. Did develop a horrible cold and lingering cough afterwards but don't know whether it was related.

Hope you're ok mummy loves

Mummyloves09 · 05/01/2018 20:27

Long story short my partner done some research and informed me and it was a decision we both agreed on. However, this being an expecting mums forum, I don't want to discuss it in case it causes panic or stress in anyway. Plus I'm not an expert lol.
But I guess it is personal preference as Well.

Cookie1831 · 05/01/2018 20:32

I had mine before getting pregnant and had no problems hurt less than previous years
All day today though have been having weird tightenings like Braxton Hicks I know you can get them earlier with subsequent pregnancies and as early as 8 weeks but WTF? Is stressing me a little bit. No other problems having a wee, no bleeding etc am constipated but that is normal for me and it isn’t like a “need a poo” cramp feels like the whole lower belly goes right like a football Confused

Cookie1831 · 05/01/2018 20:32

Tight

Intelinside · 05/01/2018 20:38

Hi mummyloves, can you at least point me in the direction of the research your partner so? I've searched online and people just keep saying the same thing - my choice, might atill get flu - so I'm none the wiser why I shouldn't iyswim

Bojangles33 · 05/01/2018 21:09

Flu jab is safe for you and baby, the risk of causing problems is less than the risk associated with getting flu, so it's worth having it. I always get it anyway but usually have to pay if you're not in a vulnerable group. It's not a live vaccine so won't in itself make you ill, but of course you can still get other colds around the same time. Also it's not 100% it will work but still better to be as protected as you can.

Orangesaretheonly · 06/01/2018 09:38

Hello everyone! Is anyone thinking about antenatal courses yet? It's our first baby so really keen to do one but trying to decide between the nhs or nct. Both seem really similar (not in price) but have heard that the Nct one isn't run by midwifes and doesn't mention c sections or a lot of other interventions. The appeal for Nct is the friendship group, but we might not click with anyone! What are people's thoughts?

georgie262 · 06/01/2018 10:30

DH and I went to the NHS one when pregnant with my first baby. We left halfway though the first session🙄 I can't remember why but I remember getting really annoyed at people asking what I thought were ridiculous questions. I know lots of people who made friends through NCt sessions (we couldn't do them as they were all evening near us and DH works long hours) but equally lots of people didn't. I think a lot of the information you get from these sessions is available out there already now so they are not as necessary as they once were

SylvesterTheCat · 06/01/2018 12:48

@Mummyloves09 hope you're ok. Like you, I haven't had flu jab (so reading recent threads with a lot of interest) but my reasoning wasn't justified by anything in particular apart from wanting to take more of a 'natural' approach (and my sister, who's a naturopath, advised me against it too for the same reason).
But I'm going to go into the medical centre on Monday and just get the damn thing. My reasoning for not having it yet is purely based on not liking the idea of it more than anything else. As I'm a teacher and exposed to lots of children who could potentially be carrying it, I should really have the jab I think.

GeekyHybrid · 06/01/2018 21:42

Happy new year all, I haven't checked in since before Christmas Blush but I'm glad to read through and see all is well. A few things coming to mind reading through:

  • I never 'glowed' with my first and got proper fed up of people telling me I would.
  • Lots of 'pulled' tummy muscles here, all I have to do is roll over in bed wrong!
  • No shopping done here but that's because a) I'm nervous b) hubby's in the middle of career changing and we're skint. But hopefully by spring.....
All my 16w appointments (I get extra ones for being over 40!) are next week when I'll be 18w because of Christmas and having been visiting up north until two days ago. We told people over Christmas, it's kinda obvious not drinking at all these gatherings. Refusing coffee's a giveaway too, went off it last time too Hmm. Keep well everyone, less than 6 months to go!
