Thanks @nored
I haven’t had it before it says on the nhs website from 16-32 weeks. I think I will have it as late as possible as I do worry about having vaccines in pregnancy. I’ve not had the flu jab either Blush

Kirstipops · 14/11/2017 07:40

I've had it, you get it in pregnancy more to protect the baby and then you get it again postnatally more to protect you I think, I had no ill effects last time at all.

Noredwine · 14/11/2017 07:48

Thanks Kirstipops - I think I will get it in the new year as protects baby.
As for flu jab Poppy - totally get what you mean - I have never had flu jab before (get offered it every year through work) as don't like the idea of vaccines when I am generally a well person but on this occasion as so much more susceptible to flu when pregnant and can be really dangerous for baby in womb I did have it as was offered at my 12 week NHS scan. Had no side effects save for a larger bump on my arm for a couple of days! It is a really personal choice thing though. X

cautiousoptimist1 · 14/11/2017 07:59

Nored I had the flu jab last week and they told me that whooping cough vaccine can now be given anywhere between 16 and 32 weeks. This has changed from my first pregnancy when I think I had it at 28 weeks. I didn't have any side effects last time. I generally take whatever advice they give me so didn't question having the vaccine.

LadyPug · 14/11/2017 08:12

I had whooping cough last time and was fine, no side effects. Didn’t have flu as different time of year so midwife said not needed but this time I’m having it as winter pregnancy

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 14/11/2017 09:44

I had the whooping cough vaccine last time and had no side effects, even though I'm immuno-compromised. Both DH and my dad have had whooping cough (MIL refused to get DH vaccinated) so for me, it's not a risk worth taking

Kirstipops · 14/11/2017 10:16

I had the flu vaccine a couple of weeks ago for the first time and was fine with that too, my science geek friend strongly recommended it due to the bad strain that Australia had this year.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 14/11/2017 10:17

I heard that flu in Australia was particularly bad this year too (and that’s the strain they use to make the vaccine I believe). I felt rotten for a few days after the flu jab burn it could have been coincidence

Blueberry1 · 14/11/2017 11:32

When I told GP I was pregnant, I got put on flu jab schedule. At 1st midwife appointment, I was informed I should have whooping cough vaccination at 20 weeks. GP surgery have me on schedule and I'll be called in in due course.

I had whooping cough when I was 3 as there was a vaccine scare the year before I was born so my parents never had me vaccinated (only childhood vaccination I didn't get). Whooping cough can kill; I was lucky, I was just very ill, but can't have been nice for my parents.

@Noredwine - I never bothered with the flu jab.... until I got flu in 2013. I've never felt so ill in my life; I could barely walk around my flat Shock! I was off work sick for 2 weeks, then got 6 months of post viral fatigue (like chronic fatigue). I'm generally very healthy (I'm a non-smoking, marathon running vegetarian!), but every year since 2013 I get a flu jab as I NEVER want to feel that ill again!

Hiraeth17 · 14/11/2017 15:27

When is everyone having their 20 week scan. I'm worried as mine isn't until 23 weeks 😬

Also, how do I join the FB group???

Poppy012 · 14/11/2017 15:29

They don’t check the heartbeat here until 24 weeks so didn’t get to hear it at midwife appointment :(
My scan is 4th December at 19 weeks. That should does seem late at 23 weeks @hiraeth

HerSymphonyAndSong · 14/11/2017 16:35

IN my area the anomaly scan is between 18.5 and 21 weeks I think so 23 does seem late

I have no idea if/when they use the Doppler but will find out at my 16 wk appt next week

Doublechocolatetiffin · 14/11/2017 17:51

Sorry, been away for a few days, just catching up. Anyone who wants to join the Facebook group send me a PM with your email address and then I can add you to the group. The joining process for secret groups seems pretty hit and miss so if it doesn’t work, just let me know and I’ll try again!!

PopadomPointer · 14/11/2017 19:35

Hello allSmile
Just had my (late) dating scan, due 17th May.Grin

Elvi1 · 14/11/2017 19:51

Hi Hiraeth17 - my hospital books anomaly scans at 22 weeks as standard so actually 23 weeks isn't as late as others might think. The NHS website says that 'scans usually take place between 18-21 weeks but in some areas it may take place later'. Reading between the lines it's obviously not essential for the scan to take place between 18-21, but if you want reassurance perhaps talk to your midwife? But I would be frustrated at having to wait for so long. Thinking of a positive, the picture of your baby might be clearer and more detailed?

Elvi1 · 14/11/2017 19:56

Doublechocolatetiffin I'm so glad that you posted the message about fb as I've been looking for someone called tiffin to message 😆

Aceofspade · 14/11/2017 21:12

Hi everyone, I lost you all for a bit there!

Great news on all the positive scans😊 Im due 13 May but because my 20wks falls on Xmas eve and the clinic is closed over Xmas and new year I'm not getting seen until I'm nearly 23wks too. Maybe you're the same **Hiraeth?

Noredwine · 14/11/2017 21:37

Thanks all for the feedback on whooping cough vaccine - will definitely get it in the New Year. I will contact GP to get an appointment once 25 weeks (as that is when midwife here said to do it - maybe they have particular rule in this area?)
Anyone else still not got any bump to speak of? Getting impatient as really want a bump!

Elvi1 · 14/11/2017 21:48

Nope - no bump at all despite being my second, although I'm still only 12+4 weeks. However, I haven't been able to go to the gym since I've been pregnant as I've felt so ill so I do have a bit of tummy fat. Maybe it hiding in there!

HerSymphonyAndSong · 14/11/2017 22:09

Same here re padded tummy! I can feel a firmness above my pubic bone but above that is the result of all the toast I ate for 12 weeks, so bump not really in evidence

HerSymphonyAndSong · 14/11/2017 22:10

I have noticed though that before, even if passed, I could suck in my stomach but I can’t do that any more (or rather, it makes no difference if I do!)

HerSymphonyAndSong · 14/11/2017 22:10

*padded

cautiousoptimist1 · 14/11/2017 22:47

Elvi, sorry I think I was the one who abbreviated to tiffin!

I have a small bump now, which still surprises me even though this is my second. I still think most of it is bloat though as it gets bigger in the evening.

Elvi1 · 15/11/2017 05:58

cautiousoptimist1 - that's ok, I'm sure it was just me who failed to work that out. My brain is frazzled!

Argh - when will this nausea go?! It really gets you down. I felt too ill to go to a party with DH on sat and missed an announcement of an engagement of some friends. So frustrating...and isolating.

PopadomPointer · 15/11/2017 06:14

I've got a teeny bump....this is my 4th though,so my body's probably brokenGrin
