I thought I’d start this thread now as I can’t see one yet! I got my bfp this weekend on a digital and estimate my due date to be 1st of July, but I have long cycles so I’m anticipating it changing at a dating scan. Anyone else with me for end of June or beginning of July 2018?

Hi everyone, I'm apparently due 24th July so joining in. First baby, first time lucky with ivf so I'm currently a bit paranoid but s otherwise ok. Did not know it was possible to be so tired though (actually nodded off with my head on the kitchen table earlier...)

Windowgazer123 · 13/12/2017 00:23

@Daphne33 hi!
I'm a few days ahead of you and due late July.
Have you gotten answers on the scans?
You should have your 12wk one booked in now- have you got that appointment?

I went last week ( was 6w +6) for early scan as I just wanted some reassurance. I saw you based in London. I did some research.. places charge between £60-£150.
I read some very good things about the Fetal Medical Centre in Harley street. All there are trained by Professor Kypros Nicolaides who is renowned in the field.
It's £100 which is a fair price. I was in and out in 20 mins. The lady initially said we should do an internal scan as when it is so early it often won't work across the belly.. but I suggested we try first and it worked. Saw the heartbeat, and she checked the size. As it's so early there isn't much they can tell you. But I just wanted to see something!
Anyway. I would recommend them. They do a special Price package with Harmony tests if you wait till 10wks- details here: fetalmedicine.com/treatment-fees

I still haven't decided whether to do the Harmony tests or just wait and have the 12wk scan on the NHS. They are £400-450, which could buy something lovely for the baby!

Heregoeseverything · 13/12/2017 12:33

Hi @SarahT81 and congratulations!

@Daphne33 @NimbleKnitter @Windowgazer123

I got the £400 scans/Harmony test package at FMC. Had first scan and Harmony test this morning. Scan was amazing, I worried they would tell me there was nothing in there but there he was, heart galloping away! I say he ...was so sure it was a he... but for some reason looking at the screen I felt it was a girl. Will find out soon I guess. Harmony test was just a quick blood test, took no time.

I'm a bit disappointed in that I asked the FMC before I booked whether I would get the Harmony results back before Christmas and they said yes, but today they said it is a 2 week waiting period and they can't guarantee before Christmas. Really wanted to have that reassurance before announcing, and really want to announce at Christmas. I think we will have to announce to the family we are with as it will otherwise be obvious anyway from the non-drinking, but we may then get bad news on the 27th...

I was also pleasantly surprised that they have dated me at 10+4 - I had thought I was a few days behind that. New EDD is 7 July. I feel a bit silly, because it has only now occurred to me that I might have ovulated at a time different to the "average" woman for my normal cycle length (31 days). In my defence my online ovulation calculator never said anything about this variability but declared the 18th my date of ovulation, when it now seems it was the 14th. I suppose if it were that predictable then nobody would use ovulation detection kits! It's a good thing we didn't rely on the ovulation calculator but (ahem) took a comprehensive approach to TTC!

@Windowgazer123 It's probably not worth the money if you are happy with the NHS tests (ie if it's just to find out a little earlier), but personally I wanted more certainty - my midwife told me the NHS tests have only a c. 85% chance of detecting chromosomal issues.

Alexandra87 · 13/12/2017 13:20

Hi ladies. Got my bfp yesterday. Think I'm due 24th July but not sure as periods were erratic due to the pill. Baby was a bit of a surprise lol. Already have 3 ds 7,6 & nearly 3 so this will be baby number 4. Haven't even had pregnancy confirmed at doctors yet so no midwife or scan appointments here just yet. 8+1 today (I think). Stopped smoking 1/10 and put a couple of my symptoms hunger and sensitivity to smells down to that.
Nausea in the morning I put down to not having breakfast.
Sore boobs I thought was period due
Tiredness working, housework, 3 kids and a husband will do that for you lol
But I knew when I got a nosebleed and my gums bled when I brushed my teeth.

Heregoeseverything · 13/12/2017 13:48

@Alexandra87 Congratulations! I didn't realise nose bleeds were a pregnancy thing but suspected they might be - had one this morning and yesterday morning...

Daphne33 · 13/12/2017 14:50

Hi!
I hope everyone is doing ok, and it's really nice to read your stories of getting pregnant too. @Alexandra87, congrats!!

Chin up, @LittleBirdBlues, and your husband sounds lovely to say that to you too!

@Windowgazer123,
I am 7w+5 based on LMP, due 30/31 July it seems.
(sidenote: Ha! Finally I'm getting a hang of these abbreviations compared to my complete confusion last week.)

I'm living in the Greenwich area and following my GP's advice, I have registered online on NHS on Monday to be seen by a midwife but nobody has contacted me yet, I'm afraid.
Do you have your appointment already?
Did you also register online?

Husband and I spoke about it this morning and we plan to do the private scan since we haven't been contacted by NHS and we are thinking to do it anyway so we can get an image of this as announcement to our families, hopefully at Christmas.
Does the Harley St one give you a photo of the scan?

@Windowgazer123 and @heregoeseverything
Did the Harley St scan also date you?
It must be so exciting and reassuring to see this scan and know there's a bub there growing. I'm half scared to go for one but I also want to experience this before NHS gets to me in the line (is this of concern that they have not contacted me in 3 days?).

I was looking at London UltraSound Direct as they have a branch in SE London and they have their available dates accessible online. It's £89.

So as I understand it, the NHS scan at 12wks scans does cover Down's Syndrome testing but not as comprehensive as a Harmony Test which will scan for other chromosomal deficiencies?
And this Harmony Test only can be done at 10wks+?

I've had to tell my 2 best friends in Singapore, only really cos' I wanted to check with them what the scans were like there, and what they have done. 1 just had her 1st baby last month and the other has 2 kids below age 4. Of course, they confirmed they all had scans by their gynae at 6w+, haha but have reassured me that UK system probably goes by milestones and 12wks is fine too. That said, both have also said if they were me, they would just do the private scan as well at least for the start.
I wish I had more girlfriends here I could share with of course but whatsapp with them will do for now I guess.

Is there a FB group? I'd love to join too.

PenguinChristmas · 13/12/2017 16:35

I’ve got my booking in appointment tomorrow and I’m a mixture of excited and very nervous.

I didn’t have any sickness with my little boy and although I’ve had a bit, really sore boobs and so tired it’s ridiculous I’m starting to worry that I’m not really feeling that sick, my sore boobs are on and off. The only constant is being tired.

I think I’m just anxious after a MC

Buglife · 13/12/2017 16:57

I commented a while back but haven’t been back on! Age 34, pregnant with DC2, have a DS aged 3.

I’ve been increasingly sick so I’ve got a prescription for Cyclizine and it’s already helped a lot. I suffered through the sickness with DS but I’m not suffering needlessly this time. I was fobbed off a lot by people saying ‘you’re supposed to be sick’ etc but up to 8 times a day was awful. With a child, Christmas and a weekend break to take the child on this weekend I don’t have any rest time!

For all those worrying about when they’ll get booking in appointment etc It can seem like it takes a bit of time at the start when you are all in the first shock/excitement of pregnancy, but really there doesn’t need to be much done before 12 weeks which is why the booking in appointment and scan isn’t early (unless in the case of previous issues/miscarriage/ivf etc) it does seem an AGE to wait until 12 weeks but it isn’t a problem, it isn’t ‘too late’ or anything! Booking in appointment is just getting lots of details taken as well, so again doesn’t have to be done early. First trimester is quite hands off unless you have a reason to be under medical care. Which can be daunting but isn’t a bad thing! My scan is on 11th Jan so looking forward to that. I’m not sure on dates but estimate I’m week 8.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 13/12/2017 17:38

Ive got my booking appointment next week i will be 9.5 weeks.
But ive been to the epu and seen baby.
I reckon they may be late giving me a 12 week scan due to when the referral for it will be sent and the holidays.
It should technically be the first week of january but i think it will run late.

I think i have pmd the right person for joining the facebook group (i hope)

Heregoeseverything · 13/12/2017 17:59

@Daphne33 Yes, scan dated me. If you are just having a scan I think the same thing is available more cheaply elsewhere.

Harmony Test screens for T-13, T-18 and T-21. NHS screens for various chromosomal conditions including these three. The advantages of the Harmony are
(1) You find out earlier (though not necessarily significantly earlier so I don't think it's necessarily worth it for that unless eg it's about having results before Christmas - results take 2 weeks, test has to be at 10weeks+, NHS results are based on 12 week scan and bloods to the best of my knowledge so there might be a fortnight in it).
(2) It is much more accurate: 99%+ v. 85%. These is why we had it done, as well as wanting results before announcing at Christmas.
(3) You can also find out gender a bit early (again I wouldn't have done it for this purpose alone).

I wouldn't be alarmed that you haven't heard from the NHS this week with an appointment - I think you may need to manage your expectations a little! I did hear back within the week but was very surprised that I did (and different health trusts will take different lengths of time). The NHS is run to tight budgets so you won't get a Rolls Royce service, ie you won't be treated as needing urgent attention if there is no medical reason for this. You should hear back from them next week and if not consider chasing.

LittleBirdBlues · 13/12/2017 19:42

@daphne33 i just got a letter from the hospital telling me when my booking in appointment would be. Two days later I got a similar letter for the first scan. So I agree with just waiting until at least the middle of next week.

Prior to 12 weeks there really isn't much that needs to or can be done from a medical perspective so try to be patient. Ha! I wish it was that easy. I'm having a private scan next week and I can't wait! Smile

Daphne33 · 13/12/2017 21:15

Thank you ladies for your detailed sharing and kind reassurances! I did not know I will be contacted by post, I will just wait for my letter then. :)

Thanks especially @heregoeseverything for letting me know abt the Harmony scan. I hope you get ur results, as u wished in time for Christmas.
It does seem the Harmony one is similar to NHS one then, just shy of a couple of weeks.

I've scheduled my private scan for tomorrow evening.
I'll be doing an Early Scan which will measure/show heartbeat and gestational measurements with the scan prints (that's my now newly planned Christmas gift to my parents and in-laws who all live outside the UK so I scheduled it tomorrow so I have enough time to post that off next week! Otherwise I wld just be more patient and wait till NHS scans). I don't think that means it will be a dating one as it's too early to be exact but if I can, I'll update here on how it goes.

I recently in this week experienced some waves of nausea after meals or after cooking though they are manageable and no throwing up but I can now imagine how tiring that could be. Take care, everyone!

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 13/12/2017 22:14

Daphene i hope tomorrow goes fast so you can see the baby.

The harmony is more detailed than the nhs one. It can give more accurate percetages if they think there is a problem. It can also tell you the gender of the baby.

karategirl · 14/12/2017 08:04

I stayed at my friends' house last night and fell down the stairs this morning :( Just completely missed the bottom step for no readily apparent reason, and turned my ankle over really quite badly. Luckily I didn't hit anything else, but if I thought I was feeling sick anyway...

Any tips (other than frozen peas - I'm on that!) for how to deal with this? And what to do today. I can't get into work, and stupidly left my phone at home, so can't even log in remotely. So I'm stuck until my friend gets home from work and can drive me home.

I'm so clumsy at the best of times, but this really takes the biscuit...

Alexandra87 · 14/12/2017 10:04

Oh no @karategirl
Is it badly swollen? Maybe you should get it checked out? Don't forget to mention you're pregnant if you do go to get it checked out in case they want to X-ray as you'll need to wear a lead belly.
I was furious this morning my youngest ds got knocked over in the school yard when we were dropping off older 2 ds. Two quite big kids landed on his head and he slid across the yard on his face. His lip was burst, his nose was burst and he's scraped all his face. His nose is really swollen now too 😟
I had to take him home (luckily we live next door) and clean all his face up then I went marching straight back along to see the headteacher and put these pregnancy hormones to good use Grin
So I should be cleaning my house and doing the huge pile of ironing I have but I know have a hood excuse to snuggle on the sofa and watch CBeebies.
I also really need to try and get some fluids down so I can do the sample for the doctors to get this pregnancy confirmed. Most of you guys have had scans and all sorts and I've not even been in touch with the midwife.

MrsT4 · 14/12/2017 12:37

Morning All!
Thanks for the welcome, so I went for a scan yesterday through the EPU as I was having some cramping. Everything is fine Thank goodness. But I thought I was about 9 weeks..turns out I’m 14weeks! Grin

So I am due the 14th June, not July.
Thanks for
Having me but I’ll pop over to the June group and leave you July ladies to it.

Lots of lovely healthy pregnancies to you all! x

karategirl · 14/12/2017 13:15

@Alexandra87 I don't think it's broken, but it's flipping swollen. Badly sprained at the very least. I can't put any weight on it - I've been wandering around on my knees to go to the loo Xmas Blush I think I'm going to ask my husband to take me to the minor injuries unit when he gets home from work this evening, if only to see if I can get some crutches...

I'm not surprised you're cross about your son! Hope he's OK? How old is he?

@MrsT4 that must have been a shock! Good to hear all is well, and best of luck for the rest of the pregnancy.

Alexandra87 · 14/12/2017 13:41

He'll be 3 later this month. His face is in a right state but he's cheered up since an old man in Lidl gave him £1 and he bought a selection box. He hasn't even opened the selection box just the fact that he got to pay for it himself kept him happy 😆.

Filled in my referral to the midwife today.

I've had such an unproductive day I've cleaned one bedroom and half a bathroom just can't be bothered at all I'm soooooo tired.

Alexandra87 · 14/12/2017 14:06

Ooh also I sent a pm to @Unicornberry about joining the fb group. Can some body who is on the fb please check to see if she got my message?

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 14/12/2017 15:19

Karategirl i hope your ankle becomes less sore soon.

Me and dd have the sickness bug. I think we caught it from a little boy in the hospital who was in the ward room she was in when having her mri on monday so today nothing productive has been done.
Waiting on ds coming home in his school taxi atm.

I think thats who i sent and email to alex.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 14/12/2017 15:23

Mrst4 congradulations that must have been a shock.
We had a few march mummys in our april due date facebook group for dd.

I landed up being one when dd came 4 weeks early. We had some may ones to with the way it all worked out.

Alexandra87 · 14/12/2017 15:33

@Skyechasemarshalontheway hope you and your daughter are feeling better soon Thanks

PenguinChristmas · 14/12/2017 15:50

Had my booking in appointment today which made me feel less nervous. The lovely midwife said I should get my scan letter over the next week or two.

Very excited to see how everything’s progressing Smile

Alexandra87 · 14/12/2017 18:29

Switched from my usual many coffees and lots of Pepsi max to green tea only to find out green tea contains caffeine 🤦‍♀️
Apparently it also inhibits folic acid absorption and since I've only just started taking it that's not brilliant.
I have some Rooibos tea and apparently that's ok so I'm going to switch to that. Gotta save the caffeine for chocolate 😉

Heregoeseverything · 14/12/2017 21:11

Wow @MrsT4 , happy days!

Sorry to hear about your woes, @karategirl and @Alexandra87 !

Do any of you feel like you look pregnant yet? I know I'm not meant to be showing yet (10+5, baby 1) but I put on a dress today and it was pretty apparent, to me anyway. I have a small frame and I think a stranger would just think I've eaten some pies, but a friend who knew me would probably suspect.

That's quite apart from the ridiculously large boobs... I've gone up at least 2 cup sizes... anyone else feeling like they look like a comedy character?
